Chelsea Injury List Grows and Grows

Chelsea Injury List Grows and Grows

As Chelsea contemplate a trip to Transylvania, to play Cluj, Luiz Felipe Scolari can only watch on as his injury problems mount.

Already out are Michael Essien, Anderson Deco and Ricardo Carvalho. However, major doubts now exist regarding the fitness of two wide players, Joe Cole and Salomon Kalou.

Cole missed the trip to Stoke with a slight tear in his thigh muscle whilst Kalou was forced off at half time at Stoke after seemingly picking up an ankle injury battling to win back possession midway through the first half.

Speaking after the clash with Stoke, Scolari was unable to confirm the situation regarding possible selection, remarking,

'I don't know [for Kalou] because it's the second time in the same leg, I wish and I think for Romania it is okay,'

'For Joe [Cole], I say nothing until tomorrow, but Deco and Ricardo [Carvalho] are out.'

We`ll endeavour to provide further updates when available.

I'm begining to get used to having most of our players on the sidelines. Hopefully, we'll have them all back soon.

We'll be looking a little short of options for the trip to Romania if Joey Cole and Kalou remain sidelined. Perhaps it will be a chance for Sinclair to stake a first-team place?

If Belletti is in the UEFA liasting he could fill the right wing void! Or we could go 4-4-2 and keep things tight!
28/09/2008 17:23:00
We shouldn't be underestimating Cluj after their surprise win over Roma in the last Champions League games. I'd be happy to see us revert to 4-4-2 with Drogba and Anelka paired up together, although I don't think Mr Scolari will be changing from his 4-3-3.

Cluj worry me - it's the great unknown!
28/09/2008 18:37:00
Why are the players so injury prone? It's so excessive and yet it happens year after year.
28/09/2008 19:38:00
If they're both out, I'd like to see us go with a formation with Drogs in the middle, Bridge on the left and Belletti up top on the right - I think that'd be pretty dangerous! Unlikely but I think it'd be a great trio.

These injuries are worrying, looks like a third season in a row that we will be plagued with injuries. Somebody give us some luck!!
28/09/2008 23:57:00
Cluj are not an unknown team to Scolari in the same way that Bordeaux weren't. Bordeaux have lots of Brazilians that he knew all about. Cluj have lots of Portuguese that he went out and monitored over several years. He told us this already.

Drogba looked really off against stoke though ........looks like we got a new king of sulk

Could be that a certain curly haired frenchman is on a personal crusade to nobble our players. If anyone sees somebody eho resembles Michel Platini, please feel free to kick his ass!!! lol

when I was visiting England in 2003 to see my grandparents and uncle we went into a sports shop. I was 11 at the time and knew nothing of abramovic (I don't think he even owned us then) and my uncle (a minor Chelsea fan himself) decided to buy me a football shirt because he is my godfather and fealt bad for barely ever seeing me. He told me to choose any shirt I wanted. At the time I knew of Man Utd and Arsenal and that other red team (liverpool, but I always forgot their name), I knew of Ronaldo and Beckham, and a little of Zidane and Maradona and Pele, but nothing more. I approached the rack and the first three shirts were utd, arsenal and liverpool. I was considering each one then I realised that they were all red, and I wanted to be different. I wanted a team that wasn't red, so naturally my attention focused on the fourth shirt in the rack, which happened to be a Chelsea Shirt. When I showed it to my uncle, saying I want this one please, he told me everything I needed to know about the choice I had made, and why he was proud of me, and since then I have never looked back. Now my bedroom is painted blue, I own four Chelsea shirts and a LOT of paraphinalia, including and rather large flag which covers most of one of my walls. And even though I live on the opposite side of the world (NZ) I still make a 4 hour walk most saturday/sunday mornings to watch Chelsea play live at 230 a.m.. I could never give up on this team. (though I have a worrying soft spot for palace)

That must be the most brilliant decision for supporting a football team I've ever heard, bluethrough! Blue Is The Colour, eh?!

Good story, bluethrough.
