Chelsea - Most Heartbreaking - Moscow or Barca?

There`s a break from Premier League action this Tuesday!

There`s the small matter of the Champions League to consider and our hopeful road to Madrid starts with a group game against FC Porto.

In previous seasons we`ve come so close, the tears in the rain in Moscow, the frustration of the muppet who refereed our clash with Barcelona and the nausiness of falling to Liverpool on two occasions at a crucial stage.

But, on reflection, it`s the Moscow and Barcelona occasions that really gripe.

Ahead of the start of our camapign, in an interview published in one of the leading Sunday red-tops, our very own Frank Lampard has discussed those very two matches trying to work out what was the worst sensation remarking,

"I don`t know if Barcelona was worse than Moscow or not but to me they are both right up there because of the circumstances involved."

"Both were so hard on us, so cruel on us. To lose out against Barcelona in the manner we did was certainly tough to take."

"Barca were the stand out team last year and yet we deserved to beat them. Simple as that."

"Maybe at the Nou Camp we defended but at home we definitely deserved to win the game and go through so it was extremely disappointing."

"And in Moscow against United it was so, so frustrating, a freak slip right at the wrong moment."

"If that one brief moment had gone differently we would have won it."

"But there`s nothing you can do about it after the event."

"What`s gone has gone."

Fair enough Frank but which of those two instances hit you, the Vital Chelsea readership, the hardest?

Your thoughts please!

now this could be interesting!
merlin
For me it is last season semis second leg in SW6 against Barca. The way how they get through to final with ref help it still hurts and is so unfair.... my verdict is : evrything what does not kill you makes you stronger. CAREFREE!
bluepyramid
So can we expect the dice to fall in our favour this season?
merlin
ha! thats a tricky one. both hearbreak were equally cruel, but for me , it would be the Moscow Final! We were so close to finally wining CL and beating damn Man U! Terry could have become a all time folk hero. "sighs"... I remember how drunk and miserable i was that night.damn.
christiandaniels
For me it's Barca because of the quality of the teams that we knocked out ( Juve, Liverpool) and than it would have been a revenge time against Man U, it would have been perfect in my opinion!?
Lendinho
Losing in penalties in the final was more heartbreaking for me. To be so fractionally close and to lose it--and to Man Utd no less--was really tough. As a supporter, I was bitterly disappointed, but to be entirely honest I felt so awful for the players involved, especially JT (for the miss) and Ballack (another second-place medal). The mess of the semis and the Ovrebo madness left me furious and miserable, not hearbroken. We should've been in that final, but it still wasn't as bad as actually losing it in PKs.
RadioactiveD
Barcalona without a doubt. Penalties was always going to be a 50/50 lottery and its just one of those things. Barca was just so unfair. I am normally fairly mild mannered but I was with Ballack every step of the way in chasing down the referee.
Mr Reasonable
Moscow all the time, being there, then knowing the final penalties were in our own hands, JT had one hand on the cup and then the slip, it still hurts to this day. Barca was just so frustrating poor ref last minute goal. But no Moscow wasn't good.
danmark
Having unfortunately been at both games (just my luck) iv got to say Moscow was worse. For those of you who where watching it in pubs and at home the moment Terry missed must of been gut wrenching but actually being there and watching fans around me just fall back into our seats and watched that amazing trophy slip out our hands was truly soul destroying. We could barely raise our hands to applaud our devastated boys in blue. Without question we should have beaten Barca and gone onto beat ManU last year. But being one kick away in Moscow and missing will always be worse.
cfcboy
I don't mourn penalties because I've seen some of the best shootout specialists fail to score in shootouts of immense significance. The Barca farce was infuriating because of the perversity of the entire situation. Here was a case where we are able to rope Barca in, even without the help of the referee, have so many calls which other teams with "pedigree" would have had in their favor and drawn the game only for Barca to have to go through because of minor technicalities like: sorry, it's the away goals rule and sorry, the referee is infallible. I was not heartbroken, just infuriated at the injustice of it all and the ensuing moral highstanding that every non-Chelsea fan engaged in. After that day, I realized just how much hated Chelsea was among opposition fans and so-called neutrals.
essienic
Moscow..."!"!"..
blueogre
Barcelona easily. If you shoot and miss it's tough. If you have players batting balls away with their hands, slicing through players legs and nothing done about it or fouls given in wrong places, then it's corruption pure and simple. Going to the Emirates and seeing as humiliate them 1-4 wasn't even enough to get over it.
Squiddy
Barcelona -.-'. Without a doubt. Penalties you kind of expect things to happen. But an unexpected last minute goal will ***** you up big time. They didn't even a shot on target the whole game! Except mother*****ing *****ty *****ing goal.
k_chelski
Moscow was heart crushing, left me sobbing, whereas Barca at the bridge left me fuming.
Osgood_Spirit
Definitely Barca. It was our fault that we didn't do enough in Moscow. Against Barca we did more than enough, it was stolen from us.
Saf 91
It's got to be Moscow for me! We should have won the game in ninety minutes, and then in extra time, and then to be a kick away from getting our hands on that elusive piece of silverware was just simply heartbreaking! Barcelona was more unbelievable and infuriating, but Moscow had me in more despair, for sure!
daspecial1
For me, it has to be the pain of Moscow that causes me the most heartbreak; especially as i felt we had the match won when Cech saved that Ronaldo penalty, but then JT slipping on that sodden patch of grass, then seeubg an uninterested sulky frenchman "attempt" to keep us in it... I agree with RadioactiveD in the way that rage and frustration were my primary emotions after our victimisation by that UEFA yes man pleb. Ever since then i've suggested that Chelsea attempt to punish UEFA in someway..
SouthendBlue
Going back out there and winning it once and for all would be the best punishment to dish out, SouthendBlue!
daspecial1
Don't care. It's a new season and another shot at the trophy. Living in the past is for teams with no future.
the_legend_of_zola
We were robbed in both. By the Ref v/s Barca, by Vidic's pretence (Drog hardly touched him) + bad luck (JT slipped) in Moscow. But the injustice of the Barca game probably pinches more.
ZeeNut
Excellent comments. It is Barca for me personally, but I can relate to everything said here about Barca and Moscow.
Betterdeadthanred
as soon as i get off my medication you have to bring this %$#& up again. Damnit! Where are my pills...
iwearblue
Now i think we should end this discourse...its breaking my heart more than both events.
blueogre
Do we need to debate this? Both cause me excruciating pain..
JT_daniel
Absolutely, I'll personally hack into anybody's comp, should they continue this debate. LOL!
JT_daniel
They say time heals. I say NOT!
JT_daniel
United were freaking lucky in the finals. Last year's was fixed. So I say the finals hurt more..
JT_daniel
BUT WE'LL WIN THE FECKING THING THIS YEAR! CAREFREE@!!!!!!
JT_daniel
AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHH!
JT_daniel
Damn you Lampsy, did you have to say this??
JT_daniel
Bk, I beat my previous record! lol!
JT_daniel
ha ha .. you did JT_d :D anyway, for me its Moscow...one kick..we were one kick away from all the happiness in the world :(
blueKnightz09
definitely the finals...just one kick,nd it would've been ours after coming back from being a goal down, against MANU,plus,Diva diver missed his!it would've been perfect...and he slipped :'(
alex6
Can we, please, NOT talk about this...I am still not over it, and don't feel like thinking about it!!!
dreadis
Moscow, we were much closer than in Barca.
Seabourch
We would have had to have beaten Man U still last year, but thr Barca loss hurt alot! I'm in a glass cage of emotion!
Haigh_for_7
Barca for me too. Penalties =50/50. I was in heaven till Iniesta popped up so late. Broke my god damned heart so he did.
Zbam
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! U GUYS ARE KILLING ME
blueogre
Barca still makes me extremely angry, it was unfair, unjust, a sham, a charade and we were cheated plain and simple (by the ref, not Barca). I guess the late Barca winner was cruel in the circumstances but Moscow was much, much moreso and still hurts like Hell. We were soooo close, we had both hands on the trophy before fate intervened; it wasn't a mistake, nobody's fault, just one of those awful things that makes you think that someone 'up there' hates you! O_S got the right word, I too was totally 'crushed'! If only, IF ONLY...!!!
SpanishBlue
stopppppppppppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
blueogre
I'll have to second Lendinho on this one, the barca one was the worse. We'd outplayed the team everyone considered the best, where was messi and xavi against chelsea? Then to go on and revenge on man u beating us 3:0 at old trafford in January and revenge on Moscow at the same time. That was painful. Let's be honest Man Utd did not even deserve to be in the final, The most work Barca did last season was against chelsea and still they needed Uefa and Ovrebo(I hate saying that name) to overcome Chelsea. Because of that match I really hate Barca now.
NYBlue
Moscow... no doubt... long day, soaking wet, we outplayed them from HT onwards and deserved to win that game.. Ronaldo missed penalty.. Captain to win it... :( long walk and journey home to deal with the scum win for the 2nd time when they dont deserve to...
MHLower
We can't blueogre, I think this is a necessary purge to exorcise our demons!!!
SpanishBlue
i cant believe people think the barca game was more heartbreaking! we was a couple of inches away from winning it and celebrating while watching ronaldo cry!
MrDax
Barca was the worst for me, simply because it was not in our hands (feet). In Moscow, we can blame ourselves (Drogba, Terry, and Anelka). But honestly, both are pretty hurtful, and the ban is hurtful as well.
gekamas
Having voted for the Barcelona game already, games that were more disappointing than Moscow: Bristol City FA Cup 3rd round, Scarborough League Cup, Monaco CL 1st leg - all away. I was actually quite proud of Chelsea in the CL Final - no problem at all. Here's a slightly different question: Who's been brave enough to watch the CL Final again? Not me.
Squiddy
I did watch it again, but not the penalties :|
blueKnightz09
Excellent question squiddy, not be. It's going to be a while, if ever! I agree that I was proud of Chelsea that day - I was the Barca game too but still it is Moscw that hurts more because we were just so agonisingly close and all that stopped us was an extraordinary quirk of fate - a fine line indeed!
SpanishBlue
Not me! It was repeated again and again and again, but I never mustered the courage to watch it.. :'-(
JT_daniel
I close my eyes every time I see any footage of the game. It's just too much.
Saf 91
Losing to Barca was infuriating, not heartbreaking.
