Chelsea - Joe Cole is BACK!

After a couple of recent cameo performances, Joe Cole made his return to Premier League football, after a nine month absence, yesterday.

With Carlo Ancelotti having already given us all an inkling; on Chelsea TV, that Joe would start against Blackburn, it didn`t come as that much of a surprise when he was named in the starting eleven.

Playing at the tip of the diamond, a position that had previously been occupied by Deco and Lampard this season, Joe had a great opportunity to give Chelsea the lead as early as the twenty-ninth second of the match but glanced a header wide.

But, as the match wore on, Joe showed that he still has the ability to produce the unexpected with a series of deft touches and stunning passes opening up the Blackburn defence.

When he was withdrawn, in the seventy-seventh minute, he was met by Carlo Ancelotti, on the touchline, and the two embraced each other as if both knew Joe had reached the end of that comeback road.

After the game, Carlo had this to say about Joe`s comeback,

"I was very impressed."

"He is a genius. He has fantastic quality in midfield. After nine months out it Is not easy to play like Joe Played. I`m happy for him and for us, he`s an important player."

Whilst Joe simply enthused,

"Just to get back on the pitch training is great so to come back in a game like that is fantastic."

It`s great to have you back Joe!

Joe's successful comeback is a real boost. To have both him and an in form Deco is essential for the months ahead as our guys constantly have to penetrate through a series of 10 man defences week in week out.

Before Joe's injury he was regularly England's best player in an inconsistent England team. While he has been out injured Capello has raised the standard of the England team however Joe Cole is still a must in my eyes to get into that team. He will be the icing on the cake that Capello has been baking

Good to see J.Cole back, lets not get carried away. Just because he does some stepovers lets not compare him to C. Rolando or Deco. We need to use him carefully, and play him in only alternate matches. He should be alternated with Deco / Ballack.

Doesn't look like most realize the importance of Cole return. As blueKnightz pointed out CA finally found his tip man. That's the reason for the sparkling team play. No wonder CA hugged Joe, could have kissed his arse as well as his own was starting to hang on the line. And if you don't have to trust me on that. Did you see CA's face? This was the first time in weeks that he did not look like he swallowed a piece of crap. Now the hope is back. I still don't know if Lampard will be comfortable on the left and if so how CA will accommodate Malouda and Zhirkov. But it is a different game now. Just don't get injured again Joe.

It was a good weekend, ManU lost 3 points, Arsenal get a 2:2 draw with West Ham and lost 2 points and Citeh also get a 2:2 draw with Fulham and lost 2 points. So we are in the top of the table with our nice win over Blackburn. Really good weekned.

I'd play Deco before Cole at the tip any day. The only complication is that Deco does not have a physical presence on the ball and gets bullied a lot so Joe will get the nod on occasion. That said, Deco distributes balls better than Cole and most importantly, does not hang onto the ball longer than he should (I'd add that the only who releases balls much faster and with defense splitting precision is probably Ballack). Joe does some cool tricks once in a while but most of the time, they are uncalled for and only get in the way of moving the ball forward. Then when he lose the ball, particularly, in a game against tough opponents when things are not going well for us, he tries to tackle to get the ball back, which is commendable, but sometimes due to his exuberance, results in him putting in a poor tackle and getting booked. That said, I like his exuberance but too often in gets in the wa y of the team.
Also, the argument that he is England's best player in an inconsistent team is a moot comparison since many of the players on the English team will not even have a squad role at Chelsea.
As for the the notion that Carlo hugged Joe because his success hung on Joe's performance, that's the biggest load of tripe I've ever heard. Joey is an endearing fellow so I'd be surprised he hasn't won CA over and any manager winning at 5-0 can afford to take anyone out and have a Cheshire cat smile on his face. Much as I don't like to think highly of Christina Ronaldo, Joe Cole is no Ronaldo. Please believe it. Ronaldo is a faster, trickier, better all-round player (and diver) compared to Joe Cole no matter what your heart tells you.

Hmm, for the start, we have got 1 more FIT player in our squad. I would not praise him much or slate him, remember the transfer ban xD It is nice to have him back, Ancelotti is not stupid, if he thinks that he needs him in a game you will see him perform then judge him. As for Blackburn, they were really weak, we are not Arsenal (problems with weaker sides)but we did not have to give 100% to win that game.

I suppose people see different things. I for one can't see why Deco even get s half the praise some are giving him. Apart from a few really good games in the beginning of his Chelsea career, he's a mere shadow of his Barca days. Harsh perhaps? Like my brother and I completely disagree on Ballacks role. I think he has become a crucial force in our midfield where my bro argues that he's just a slow uninspired lump.... -Anyhow throw Ash & Bosi in this line-up and this one hell of a football team. to say that the argument that he was england's best player is a moot argument is just silly. a. cole, terry, and lamps (arguably top 5 in the world in each of their respective positions), all play for england, but joey was better. what does that say about joey? i'd say a former chelsea player of the year could arguably be one of the top 10 best players in the world. deco better? how much have you watched joey? he is on another level. in his first start in 9 months, to play like he did, that just gives you an idea of how far he can still go. we fielded the best possible chelsea midfield last night, and joe cole belongs at the tip of that diamond. potential world player of the year, yes i said it.

JT & lamps always say we have yet to see the best of him. However there's a long way to go - for me, just as long as he doesn't get crocked again... I don't rate the technical side of Ronaldo's game too highly. It's his athleticism that sets him apart. Anyway, how many more people are going to say we haven't seen the best of Cole before we realise that maybe we have? I've never seen a team at the Bridge do as little pressing as Blackburn did. Ever. We could have had 20 if we wanted to. But sure, if you want to believe that Cole is the person to thwart a Mascherano, a Yaya Toure, a Diarra, a Senna, a Fletcher, a Frings etc then by all means do so. I'm not his biggest fan, no, it's going to take more than fancy flicky and tacky tricks to change my mind.

Cole is good squad player, a la Kalou. I have said it many times - if he commands a starting role at Chelsea, our team is not as strong as it needs to be. Small, weak and of average pace, he does have flair and can make the opposition miss. Whoever said he is strong on the ball is smoking something. Average to weak leg. He will not do against the better teams in the PL and Europe. Ideal sub in games where the opposition is mid table and tired. Fan favorite status elevates his reputation.

Cole will do until the end of the season, because Ballack/Lampard/Deco are still more than capable of adding competently to the attack. End of the season/transfer ban we bring in a top quality diamond tip like Ozil or if we are dreaming I would like to see Ribery there because I reckon he has the right attributes to lead a diamond very well.

Since when was he compared to CRonaldo? That's just silly. This time last year I would happily have taken 20m and watched Cole leave. But now we are playing the diamond I think he needs to be given a chance. He has the qualties required of a player in that position. The things that prevented him shining on the wings, his lack of pace, crossng ability and natural width are not issues at the diamond tip.

And don't compare Joe and Divadiver...Cole can defend as well as attack..he isn't a whining doll...He is one of the most loyal players in our team...the spirit of Chelsea FC..give him the respect he is due..

Here here Samurai. And I agree that the look on their faces was priceless. This reminds me of an interview with ex Aston Villa & AC Milan defender Martin Laursen. He said (worryingly) that even though Ancelotti was the best tactically sound manager he had ever worked under – Carlo wasn’t very good at man management. He has his favourites, but if you aren’t one of them (like Laursen wasn’t) Ancelotti sometimes wouldn’t even say hello to you. Ok at the mo, it seems like everyone is happy and getting games, but we all know how important man management is & perhaps interesting to get an inside view of our new gaffer… Thoughts?

Best I've seen Joey play for Chelsea for probably 3 years and given that it's his first start in 9 months, that is hugely encouraging. If he can get to his very best (and I'm not sure he's ever quite got there before), then we have a genuinely world class player who can make a difference for us, let's all hope that's the case! Even better that he's a blue through and through, living the dream having supported us as a boy!

samurai, not sure who you're refering to, but in case you didn't notice, the people who are 'defending' kalou/ballack are showing absolutely no disrespect to cole. it's already been said he's creative, fantastic bloke and brings that extra somthing to the park. what's being alluded to noe is that calling him better than ronaldo atm, makes him the best player in the world. enthusiasm and exuberance is good, but let's temper it with reality. that was the same stance that the defenders of kalou/ballack took when folks went the other extreme saying they don't deserve to be at chelsea. it's an appeal for moderation and realism in the face of fantasy. which do you prefer? for the record, i'm a big fan of joey's but let's not fool ourselves, best players on the planet... kaka, messi and ronaldo (even if he's the biggest scumbag on the planet too). we're talking pure football ability here, but if you want to change the parameters to 'nice guy' well, at least bother to read what's being said first.

J Cole is at the age where he should be playing his best football. Injuries have been a big factor in preventing this over the last two seasons. But if CA plays him regularly in the centre of the field, then we will get our chance to see the real J Cole. At present he has not even come close to Deco at his peak. The next 2 seasons will let us see if he will be remembered as a great or never-lived-up-to-expectations player. I'm hopeful it will be the former.

Joey was like a kid running around in his neighborhood park.He definitely made a difference to our style of play.There's no need to hype it up though.We were playing against a hapless Rovers side without their best two players.Still,nice start for Joey on his return.The team management needs to be careful not to overwork him so early in his comeback
