Chelsea - The Fab 4 vs.....

I realised that only now we have a midfield that is close to perfection!

A midfield 4 that is.

The first midfield 4 in 2006 failed and the ones before that were never effective enough, lacking in creativity.

So with the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti we now have a quartet of midfielders that are all world class.

They are Lampard, Ballack, Deco and Essien.

I know many of you will question the decision to include Deco and possibly Ballack. You will ask, what about Malouda and Joey?

Well Joey is stilling finding his feet, having only played 4 matches in the last nine
months and until he is firing on all cylinders; Deco is in the team.

When Malouda plays, he plays well but the team struggles as the style of play is rigid. As Malouda is a left winger, he tends to stick to the left flank but this makes Chelsea predictable with a midfield diamond as Carlo's ideal system is when the four can rotate positions, making it impossible for teams to mark out anyone. Thus he is left out.

I have decided to write a series of articles pitting our Fab 4 against other world class midfields from Europe and England. Even international teams are included as well to add some spice although England vs the Fab 4 might be tough.

I can tell you Liverpool and Barcelona are the first two teams to challenge our Fab 4. So I look forward to writing the articles and receiving constructive responses.

Fab 4:- Essine - Ballack - Lampard - Deco

First up: Liverpool!

Not sure about Deco & to call it perfection. There are many players who cn lay at the tip better than him even Lampard & Ballack. With that man it will be perfect now its not close to perfection!
Saimon_blues
how would the current four compare with Wise, Di Matteo, Poyet and Petrescu?
merlin
I think Xavi, Toure, Iniesta together are better than Lampard, Ballack and Essien together.
crazyforchelsea
Crazy surely better in pace and creativity but not in physical strenght and workrate. If our blue midfield plays at the same high level all together, we certainly always be able to overpower any other midfield
NiceBlue
For me, Deco isn't world class. I wouldn't even choose him before Joey and Malouda. That said, the other three in our midfield are immense. They can take on any midfield, Barca included. It's hard to compare them to Barca, however, because they're total opposites in terms of the kinds of qualities they each have.
RadioactiveD
Deco would walk into most teams in the world. Joe Cole isn't half the player Deco is.
Saf 91
Deco is a good player, not a great one. Not anymore. He lacks pace and is knocked off the ball far too easily. As for Joey, insult him all you want. I'm not bothered at all.
RadioactiveD
chelsea have the most powerful midfield bar none. merlin, the 4 you mentioned are all great players, but for strength and power our midfield knocks them into a cocked hat!!
springy
Well only Deco and Joe Cole can fit at the head of the diamond in our team. And Deco is still good even if he doesn't have his pace. He can still make match winning passes.
Seabourch
What about Mikel?
sambriki
hahahahaha sambriki you crack me up
bluethrough
Wouldn't make it into the Fab 4 in his current form.
Seabourch
I still think deco's superb.maybe not the deco of old stamina wise, but still got same old trickery, glibness and awareness.
blueogre
Isn't that what Giggs is doing now with aplomb? No pace but he sure can trick and open up defences. Same for Deco.
Seabourch
Deco will move aside soon enough, it's only a matter of when. Joey will cement his place in the first team in January i reckon.
Osgood_Spirit
The fact is, the trio of Lampard, Essien and Ballack make us play well in the middle of the pitch. When they line up together, our midfield plays well. It doesn't matter who the fourth is - they're going to get good passes and strong defensive cover. It could be Deco, it could be Joey. Personally, I wouldn't include Deco but if he's your preference then so be it.
The_Legend_Of_Zola
I think Joe will start versus man utd
kdnachi
Will never question Deco's ability and his present form. He's a class act if you are honest you will admit it too.
kdnachi
We really do have strength in depth now. Our current best 4 would have to be Essien, Lampard, Ballack and J.Cole, surely? I like Deco, he looks like Ronny Corbett, but Joe Cole has got best years ahead of him still. Above said, I still don't think we are getting the best out of every individual. Essien does well any where on the pitch, but I'd love to see him freed up to maraude forward. He does really well as a holding midfielder and is a very disciplined and selfless player, but come on. He jas far too much energy for that role. Let him terrorise everyone. Lampard isn't getting as many shots where he is, though his contribution is still great. Ballack - well, yes, he is revelling in the new system which is great for us fans. I appreciate what you're saying. It is a brilliant midfield, however.....remember this one......Duff, Robben, Makele, Lampard and Gudjohnsen or Tiago (extremely underated for us). Now tell me the midfield you picked is better! 95 points......
aslaram
I did say it was a midfield 4, not 3. If its three then we have a good midfield in Essien, Makelele and Lampard.
