'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Jose to Liverpool Shocker!

I don't get time and space to comment much on current footballing matters these days, but some reports I noticed this week over dim sum and kopi, made me laugh out loud, and so I am compelled to offer my comments on them here.

No less a person than Stanley 'flash the lights once to watch and twice to join in' Collymore Esquire reckons Liverpool should dispense with Rafa Benitez, which is one of the more obvious comments he has made, in his 'Stating the Obvious' editorials for a scumbag tabloid I do not care to recall the name of just now. What made me laugh though, is that he reckons Liverpool should replace The Paella-eating One with The Special One.

Now get back onto your chair and ask your mate for a tissue to clean up the torrent of whatever you were drinking, that has now gone down your top. If you just got coffee down an expensive tie, don't blame me, blame Stan Collymore. Actually not just him. If you Google it, there are 896,000 articles or tidbits from disgruntled Red Mickeys who all want Jose Mourinho as their new manager.

This is the same Jose Mourinho who was the most hated man on the planet when he was with us, and who was generally attributed by the Liverpool faithful as being the man mainly responsible for killing the English game, just pipping Roman Abramovich into second place, and with Didier Drogba a distant third. They all told us how he had no class, no dignity and no respect, and Jamie 'class is permanent and its just a form blip eh la' Carragher actually went on SkySports to say this very thing. So vitriolic was the abuse from the enraged bin dippers, that he actually turned to the Liverpool faithful in that most memorable of League Cup finals in his first season with us (on his way to us winning the trophy I am compelled to point out) and shushed them. Cue mass pandemonium on 909, and a mysterious disappearance of all the letter paper and envelopes from every Staples in Merseyside, as the red hordes, all incandescent with rage at his gesture, all demanded that he be banned/fined/heavily censured/deported/imprisoned etc. So now we are led to believe that he IS NOT the enemy of football, and that HE DOES have the class and dignity to manage the classiest and most dignified team on the planet la, eh. Who knew, eh?

It also represents a tacit agreement to what we've been saying all along. He has done absolutely nothing at Liverpool apart from waste untold hundreds of millions of stealth-pounds, which suddenly disappear from everyone's collective conciousness whenever the subject of Chelsea and our spending comes up. Fact is they've spent nearly as much as we have, and have a lot less to show for it than we do. You could point at the Champions League win in 2005 as proof that he isnt a total idiot, but I would respectfully contend that it has been an albatross for them since then, as he fluked it once, and everyone at the club is sort of hoping he can do it again. They have a saying out here - the sun even shines on a dog poo sometimes. That probably resonates with a certain familiarity to most Liverpool fans, and I'm not talking about what coats the streets of Toxteth and Huyton. It was clearly the luckiest, most absolutely ludicrously flukey European Cup win of all time, and had much more to do with the Golden Age of Jamie Carragher and St Steven Gerrard MotM and none of their opposition turning up for their games in the run up to the final, than it did with Rafa's supposed tactical brilliance.

But the funniest part of it all is that not that they suddenly rate Jose as their chosen messiah, but that they think he would come to them.

Have they forgotten the abuse, the spit, the vitriol and the hatred they rained on him as he went about winning Chelsea back to back Premiership titles? I bet he hasn't. He wouldn't go to Liverpool if they were the last club on the face of the planet after the abuse they gave him.

And its not like they can afford him anyway. He is one of the best paid managers in the world, on a vast and constantly improving contract at a constantly improving Inter Milan. They are an absolute nailed on certainty to clinch another Scudetto this season and he is loved and adored by all at the Nerrazurri. Its warm there. They have (very) edible food and wine that comes in glass bottles instead of plastic cups. Compare and contrast this with the grim northern wasteland, the 'cultural' street crime epidemic, the freezing rain and the bitterness ingrained into a city's people on a genetic level because they know they'll never be as good or as successful as the other reds from up the road in Salford. Then you have Anfield. Quiet as a grave on league games and vastly overrated by the media for those special 'Anfield Nights' which are a bit like 'Boogie Nights' only with more perms and drugs, and a lot fewer attractive women. Anfield is, to be fair, a legendary stadium and one of the most historic in the world, much like the San Siro. But Liverpool have grand stadium plans of their own, to bring their matchday experience up to the likes of Hull City, Bolton and Southhampton. Only they cant afford it so its a grassy area which has been completely cleared of dog poo, but then the money ran out. San Siro or grassy area near Stanley Knife Park? Tough one.

So. They cant afford to buy another striker to back up one-man army Fernando Torres, or indeed to build another stadium. What in the world makes them think they can afford Jose Mourinho, much less afford him and then give him the cash to build a challenging team that has more than two decent players. Do they really think he'll sign on for a KP Skips multipack and six cans of Skol? Yes they are a very historic club, and yes it must (all joking aside) be an honour to manage such a club, but then again so was Chelsea. So is Inter Milan. And now that he's wont titles in England and Italy, you can get its a huge honour to manage the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona as well, come the end of this season. Do we really think Jose would turn his back on that, for a fighting-for-fourth-but-very-sorry-for-all-the-nasty-things-we-said-about-you-not-having-any-class Liverpool?

Nope, me neither.

But they honestly believe it. They honestly think it is going to happen.

You just have to laugh sometimes don't you.

CAREFREE!!

such cogent vitriol. lol
essienic
Don't know who "they" are as we don't want him. He's obviously more a southerers cheating mentality than a fair play northern one. And before you start having a go, I just thought I'd use a few stereotypes as weird and stupid as the ones you used. I can't believe there are still idiots around who spout this crap, and even more there's people that listen. You'd be better off writing for the S*n, not Vital.
RafaTheGaffer
I have seen in VITAL LIVERPOOL sites asking for JOSE to replace RAFA. Why don't you check that first ? Incase you don't find it please let me know - Rafa the ...whatever
indian_blue
My how times have changed when Jose was booed to " Come manage us Jose!"
Seabourch
Gonna need a new name soon RafaThgeGaffer.
OLASAL
A BIG HIGH FIVE OLASAL!!! What a marvellous read....feckin brilliant. Lah di lah lah di lah! hang on...there's a car light flashing! Brilliant mate!
mutters
Lol! luckily i don't drink cofee!
Rune3k
Don't blame them for wanting him, who (with managerial problems) doesn't? I would have him back in a heartbeat IF Ancelotti left. This is one of those rare occasions when I actually want Jose Mourinho to respond to fan banter as well.

You'd sincerely hope it never happens. I love Rafa being at Liverpool. I hope they never sack him. I think if Liverpool were to get rid of him it would be bad news for all in football and the reason I say that is because I think they would be genuine challengers to every title! Imagine a hard working set of players being managed by Jose Mourinho, which is what Liverpool have. He's not a flair manager. He once told Joe Cole he'd drop him from the team if he saw him doing fancy tricks in our half, even though he scored the winner against Liverpool! However, all the above said, I can't see it happening. But, those that say they couldn't afford to break Rafa's contract and get in Mourinho should think again - some managers are priceless, he is one of the few. And, what's more, the trophies he'd win would keep the bank balance ticking along nicely.

Great read OLASAL,hope they dont fire him though :P In Rafa We Trust :P

As well as all the vitriol aimed at José for being an abrasive person, let's not forget that perpetual canard that the Liverpool deluded always aimed at us: José's Chelsea play boring football, that's not the Liverpool way. At one point, in December 2005, we were accused by Liverpool for being long-ball merchants. Hilariously, the Times then carried out an assessment, which revealed that Liverpool could not have been more wrong: Chelsea were the masters of the short pass and Liverpool were actually the Premier League's Wimbledon. And here is that analysis http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/european_football/article572980.ece It really is worth a read. Oh how times have changed. I mean, Torres aside, the fare served up at Anfield under masterchef Tubby is about as appetising as refried gruel. Apparently José's 'utilitarian' football is now appealing. The irony...

LEAVE RAFA ALONE...let him be, give him a pay rise and make him lifelong Poo manager! :) He is the best Chelsea/Man'ure/Spu*rs/Arse etc. manager we ever had! I love "Chubby" and extremely enjoy his 2-man team underperforming! :)))))

Chelsea transfer ban suspended! http://www.sportinglife.com/football/transfer_centre/tw_story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/09/11/06/SOCCER_Chelsea_Snap.html

right heres the thing i think with alot of liverpool fans it was more the fact that we hated to love him im not sure i speak for all our fans but i for one hated the fact i wanted to see what he had to say next.... it was magic at times and often made a boring 0-0 seem alot more fun. i dont want jose at our club for 1 reason only and that is i think we have enough going on in the boardroom without jose mind games i think it would just make more mess to clean up but apart for that i think his probably 1 of few managers that could turn it around for us. the other thing is that if you take a look back you will see that jose has also said that he would love to manage liverpool because of the history because of the passion of the fans ect... so i do believe he would but i think when he leaves inter it will be for spain if not then man u, his the only person i can see that would be able to do what fergie has done their without fergie man u wouldn't be as good as they are and thats a fact......
muffdaddy1983
Why would we sack a manager who has proved he can win the CL with an English club for one who has proved he can't? Rafa will never walk alone.
Jackie-TOLFWL
transfer ban suspended according to the beeb
outoftheblue
Yes, CAS has temporarily suspended the Ban............the final decision is still pending though......
the_blue_world
well i think that has now made even more favorites for the league... i thought you might struggle because of the ACN but you can cover that now... in all honiestly the punishment was way to hard in the first place and as we all said before if it was any other team from anyother league the punishment would never have been that harsh.
muffdaddy1983
@ Jackie - Yeah, because Jose's win with Porto is less credible, and because in 3 attempts Jose only managed to miss 2 finals due to a ghost goal and another goal which shouldn't have stood. The real question is - who would you want a manager who has proved he can win the PL instead of one who has proved he can't?
Saf 91
*why would......
Saf 91
ZeeNut the tw*t RTG?
WestDerbyRed
We don't want your cast off's. He's damaged goods, Hiddink is tens times the manager that t*sser is.
WestDerbyRed
Remind me, who was it who kicked this much loved Chelsea hero in the teeth, in the Premier League's all time most shameful act of arrogance and ingratitude? Oh yeah... Chelsea. I can promise you this, whoever he decides to manage, Liverpool included, they'll never treat his as shabbily and disgracefully as you bunch of placky flag waving twonks.
RedShanks
I for one hope Rafa never leaves, under him cesspool will be lost in mediocrity.
carefreeblue
Mourinho would never go. No money for him and no money to bring in his players.
Drogstark
jose wiith no class, no dignity and no respect, they do truely belive that and thats why they want jose, just like the poo of old they think they would be getting one of thier own as a manager
ten men
Making up stuff, the Vital Chelsea way. Claim that we want him (when we don't), then call us hypocrites for hating him previously (which we did). 2005 must still really hurt and I love that.
KB1
In Rafa We Trust!! :P
blueKnightz09
Not sure Jose would want that job.. Owners are each others throats, there is little cash to spend. In any case, love watching scousers self imploding ;)
emigre
I really wouldn't like to say either way what Jose's next move will be. I've got a feeling he wants to manage in Spain, and might be heading there next (Real, anyone?), and I've got a feeling he's going to pop up again in the Premier League a few years down the line, but I really can't see how Liverpool would ever be able to afford him. Forget whether he'd want to go/whether they'd want him, the crux of this is that they can't afford to sack Benitez because he's just signed a new bumper contract, and they certainly can't afford to pay Inter a lumpy sum of compensation as well as Mourinho's own mega-wages. Plus, I'm not sure Jose would be that keen on the UEFA Cup in February!
daspecial1
"overrated by the media for those special 'Anfield Nights' which are a bit like 'Boogie Nights' only with more perms and drugs, and a lot fewer attractive women." nice. "wine that comes in glass bottles instead of plastic cups." classy. great read - forwarding the read to all i can!

You really are a bitter little Chelsea fan with a Liverpool obsession aren't you olasal? It must really hurt that every Liverpool fan in the country wants you to beat United at the weekend, only because your club is irrelevant. Don't forget to check under your seat for your novelty plastic flag and special songsheet for . With only 3 songs in your repertoire you'd think there's be no need. Sincerely though, very best of luck against the scum. I'll be shouting for you mate.
colso
I don't know a single Liverpool fan (I'm talking real-life ones here, not the cyber-Statto bloggers who seem to have informed your rant) who wants Mourinho at Liverpool, nor have they changed their opinion about him or your club. Nice work indulging in your fantasy image of Liverpool as a some kind of dystopian cross between Oliver Twist and the Jeremy Kyle show, but basically got your main point (if your main point was indeed about the Liverpool and Mourinho link - it was hard to tell at times) totally wrong matey.
ShackUp
@ShackUp, you missed the big point. We dont give a damn about your opinion. Olasal just stated that Poo fans are a bunch of hypocrites, FACT xD
german blues brother
FACT you say GBB, yet not one shred of evidence to support it. So far, so Vital Chelsea. You hate us with a passion since 2005, we are steadfastly indifferent. Who is sadder? Haha. PS It wasn't over the line.
KB1
You want evidence? Visit bbc 606 sites for Liverpool, you`ll find plenty of evidence xD
german blues brother
I stopped reading at "spent nearly as much as we did..." Olasal used to be a good writer who made sense. Such a good writer nowadays.
craquebrito
Obsessed with Liverpool and obsessed with their betrayed ex-manager. Imagine how much it would wind them up if he did come to Liverpool - almost worth it.
RedShanks
Hahaha, it would give us some more stuff to discuss about xD
german blues brother
and it looks like the hook has been swallowed - I'm luvin it!
merlin
soon they'll start going on about how they "deserve" to have mourinho manage them. birmingham unbeaten in last three visits to anfield, good luck this weekend!
LifeLongBlue
well said olasal, funny how the red micks fall for it,you do know how to wind them up!!
springy
its the fa cup thats left to them now, maybe a little run in the europa league!! feep fat beni,he's doing a fine job,17 mill for a full back when they needed a striker to play alongside torres....absolutely brilliant fatty!!

colso, stick best of luck up your daily mate. 3 songs?? they got to be better than that 1 song dirge you lot nicked (now theres a thing)from celtic!!
springy
What poor Liverpool fans here.. Looks like 8th place in the League table has affected them.
JT_daniel
@German blues brother - yeah I think I recognised that point mate. What I'm saying is that there are plenty of Liverpool fans who don't want Mourinho - we shouldn't mistake a few voices on the internet as representing the views of the many.
