Anelka Anticipating South Africa Qualification!

Tonight our French contingent will either be celebrating qualification for the 2010 World Cup of pondering over where it all went wrong.

They enter the second leg of the final qualifier leading the Republic of Ireland by 1-0 courtesy of a deflected strike from our very own Nicolas Anelka, at Croke Park.

Qualification will add the names of Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda to the already lengthy list of Chelsea players that will be appearing on the biggest stage of all.

Ahead of the much anticipated clash Nicolas has commented on the fixture remarking,

"We need to stay strong together, be strong and united because it will be a very difficult game."

"It has been a difficult campaign but we are all pulling together, working hard to qualify and reach the World Cup Finals."

"We will play to win on Wednesday because that`s the only way we can play freely, and we also want to give the fans something good at Stade de France. It`s good to score away from home; it`s a play-off so it`s very important."

"We wanted to show we could get a good result. But we shouldn`t get carried away, anything can happen."

Chelsea and France have a history when it comes World Cup football, once the `Hoddle / Gullit / Vialli` driven revolution kick-started we were fortunate to witness several World Cup winners wearing our shirt in Marcel Desailly, Frank Leboeuf and Didier Deschamps.

Now I`m not saying that Anelka and Malouda can join that exclusive group of World Cup winners but I`m of the opinion that the 2010 World Cup will be a much richer tournament with a French side present than without, or do I stand alone on this matter?

I'd prefer France on the fact that they have much better players in every position.
Seabourch
Agree. Platini cant be enjoying the fisticuffs amongst his 'football family' at the moment. Algeria and Egypt are on the verge of open warfare after their recent encounter.......Portugal go to Bosnia with E Bola journalist Alberto Da Silva saying today that he feared a conflagration in the 'matchbox' of a stadium, and blaming the Bosnian coach for provoking violence ahead of the clash.....and finally Diarra provoking the Irish in advance of tonights clash!! Cant wait!!!
mutters
agree although i would love to see pratini's boat if the irish knock them out!!!!
springy
Well, it would be funny to see France get knocked out and I'd be more than happy for Nic to have a nice rest next summer but as I've said before, when it comes down to it I do want to see all the big names at a World Cup and much as the Irish would bring their own style and colour to any tournament (better fans than France for sure), the better players will be on show if France qualify.
SpanishBlue
would europe recoil in horror if France and Portugal went out?
merlin
Look like France is in big trouble!
RadioactiveD
Russia is not going to South Africa!!! Yuri was sent off in stoppage time! Oh Dear!
Nika
The French version of hand of god xD Double hand of god xD Anelka is the best player on the pitch.
german blues brother
For some reason, Russia always bottles it when it counts the most. I dont know whether it is a psychological problem or something else.
german blues brother
That's true GBB. Also I doubt that Arshavin is a good captain, he couldn't really lead the rest and change the game. I like Semak (the Rubin Kazan captain) better.
Nika
Irland out xD How do you recognize great footballers? They play unorthodox when it counts the most (handball) xHahaha
german blues brother
I want Ireland and Russia in the WC finals! Domenech is way too lucky. He must have done something with the horoscopes before.
Nika
Russia were awful today, completely toothless. I liked what I saw of Zhirkov though, he seems to be able to ghost past 3 or 4 defenders at a time.
Saf 91
yeah saf91, i just hope he doesnt return moaning about the pain in his knee. He's just played 2 full games for russia.
blueogre
Not a mention of any infringment before the French goal on the official FIFA & EUFA sites...... no one will be quaking in their boots should they draw France in group stages...... Henry definitely has a future in Gaelic football.
sartori
Zhirkov's is a climate thing it seems. So i fully expect him to be sidelined.
blueKnightz09
Zhirkov was brilliant no? He's got a classic case of I-get-crocked-for-any-club-I-play-but-not-the-national-team- Itis!
JT_daniel
Yuri didn't participate in every match in the group stage. The playoffs were crucial, so I totally understand why he would choose to play for the national team. And he said that he loves to play for us, so now that Russia is out, he can focus on his career at Stamford Bridge.
Nika
Henry displayed the other side of him...HAND OF GOD. Thank God ,it wasn't Anelka...we know the media hates Chelsea...but their love child misbehaved with a blatant cheating technique...lol
CHELSEAGEE
It is called "Hand of frog" now:D
german blues brother
From our Nic's point of view it was the 'Ball of God'.....obviously placed in Terry Enrys hand by the Almighty in order to obscure Nic's 'falling over' from the assembled media!

I hope Yuri can play for us on sat.
