Chelsea - Sad to See Liverpool Crash Out?
Go on, admit it! You laughed didn`t you, or at least I reckoned you let out a wry smile!
I bet you couldn`t resist it could you?
Tuning in to watch Liverpool crash out of the Champions League with one game still to go in the Group stages was a tasty treat to set before the millions around the globe.
Yesterday morning there was a sense of the inevitability about it all when Jamie Carragher filled every back page with the suggestion that it wouldn`t be a disaster if they were to go out.
Perhaps not a disaster but pure comedy for us lot!
Nine thirty, in the evening, there they were all huddled around a television screen, in the tunnel, urging Lyon to score the goal that would keep their hopes alive, wincing when a golden opportunity to get that vital goal disappeared before your very eyes before grimacing when the realisation hit you that, Champions League wise, you`d sunk to a six year low.
Ickle Stevie looked gutted, the pain etched on his face as he bravely faced the cameras, muttering,
"The main prize has gone and to be playing in the Europa League is disappointing but we have to accept that, move on and try and win that competition. The only consolation in this is if we go on and win the secondary one."
Thursday night football, what a delight awaits you!
The sad thing is; despite all what has gone on between us in the Champions League (the ghost goal, the penalty shoot out, the thriller last year) I actually wanted you to go through because I wanted us to rub your noses in it again this season.
Never mind, I guess neither of us can have everything we want.

As usual, our Liverpool friends equate 'history' with 'success' or 'silverware'. Chelsea are currently UEFA's best team according to their coefficients. Liverpool, however, have slipped to something rather less relevant. I'm sure that this morning, the Scousers are bravely polishing their 5 cups, and thinking 'at least we have that'. Polish them well, the likelihood is that there won't be any Champions League football next season, and I'm keen to see if the Europa League produces those 'magical European nights at Anfield' over the next 18 months.

Yeesh, someone's in a rotten mood. Can't blame you. If my club showed no signs of reaching the top four this year and were just knocked out of a fairly simple CL group, I'd be feeling miserable too. One impulse I'd have, however, is to do the opposite of what you're doing: which is embarrassing yourself by arguing tired, old points.

alot of you would or should know that i will talk as i feel and thats the way i will continue to do things yes i think you lot will win the league and i think you will win it by about 10points tbh and i have said to many of may chelsea friends but i also remember all the talk from last season when youwere flying in the league and champions league and yes all of you got very over confident and cocky and just remember what happened last season you lot crumbled so dont make it another season where we all come and say told you so...... let your football do te talking for once and start writing about your own club rather than being an extentsion of vital liverpool good luck for the season boys we will get forth and we will see you lot in it next season....(just dont let the dirty mancs get any of the 2 this season).

With all due respect muffdaddy, there's only so much harping about our history before it gets a bit tiresome. Not to me, I could harp about it all day long. But I understand why fans of sides like Chelsea and Citeh get a little bit bitter about it.
The thing with Liverpool is we take the rough with the smooth. We've just been knocked out of the CL early from an awful group, out of the league cup and having an awful league season, and we support the manager fully. Chelsea turned on Mourinho when he'd won them more trophies than they'd had for decades. They turned on Avram Grant even though it was John Terrys fault they bottled the Champions League (again, there's a theme there isnt there?). And they'll turn on Ancelotti (there were signs after Wigan lol).
Last night we were singing in the cold rain in Hungary, knowing it was awful Thursday nights in Eastern Europe for the rest of the season. Can you honestly comprehend that sort of support? No hymn sheets, no free plastic flags, just support. Thats what football is about.
The sad fact is that, despite having a brilliant season in which I fully expect you to win the title comfortably, you still havent grasped the concept of behaving like Champions. No humility, no decency, no pride in your own side. Thats why they have to put free blue flags on your seats to try and garner something special about yoru club, but still nothing. I'm waiting for SOMETHING to set you aside, but there's nothing at the moment.

I wouldnt try and debate with Spuds. And I wouldnt even want to debate with Chelsea. Cos in all honesty, I dont mind you lot for most of the season. But there's always going to be this bitterness hiding, ready to come out at any point with articles like this.
We've had plenty of amazing nights in the CL, we've been spoilt. Maybe it takes a bad season to weed all the glory supporters out who started liking us after Istanbul. The difference is, ALL your supporters are like that. If you had a bad season to weed out all the glory hunters, you'd have bloody none left.
We make the most of situations. Ok the CL would be better, obviously. But we'll make the most of the Europa, blood some youngsters and see what we can get at the end of the season. We'll still be the same club, thats the point. Winning trophies doesnt define us. If you dont win something, you've got nothing. There's no amazing support or atmosphere to fall back on, which is why you're so horrible to your managers when they even slightly fail.
I dont mind Chelsea, but you've got an awful lot to learn before you're even considered a remotely big club.

KB1 -- I for one believe that we've still got a lot to learn from Liverpool(resilience and spirit instantly come to mind) in order to keep growing. I've seen quite a lot of football in my life. Yes while we can still sit and gloat about the helluva lot of success we've achieved the past 15-20 years, we still won't ever have a Dalglish or Rush. The manner in which I've seen your team overcome overwhelming odds time and time again, and played witness to miraculous comebacks over the past 15 years is truly commendable. I was sorry for what happened last night. But honestly this has been long time coming. Don't you think so? I think it's time to call truce. Because it never harms to absorb some of the better/worthwhile traits of the ones around you even if that means taking a leaf out of the book of your blood sworn enemy.

Apart from the basic fact that Liverpool can never have as long a European history (of entry or of winning trophies) as Chelsea, there was an odd comment above. Garcia's fake goal is far from the one chance for us to win the CL. We have as good or better chances every year.

All this taking the ***** out of poo has started to take it’s toll on me, I woke up this morning with a pang of guilt and thought who are we to take the ***** out of them, what with their history and 5 times European cup winners, although, we must admit that some of their opposition were rubbish in the early cup wins, such as Dundalk in the 82-83 season at Anfield where only 12,021 fans turned up, but with that said you can only beat the opposition in front of you. Sadly this morning I was thinking of holding a truce with poo supporters, because I felt awfully sorry for them, but thank feck it was only a pang and by the time I got out bed and walk into the en-suite my Mrs was screaming at me because my laughter had woke her up.

In seriousness though, I am a little disappointed because I like to see the English well represented in the knockouts. I'd far rather face another game like last years against Liverpool than a run like we had a few years back against teams like Fenerbahce. Sure, we got to the final but, call me a masochist if you must, there is far more enjoyment when playing the better teams. So perhaps Liverpool don't deserve it - their management certainly doesn't. But I think it does weaken the knockout stages in terms of how many potential winners there are. Despite the heartbreak in the semi-finals, having played Juve, Liverpool and Barcelona was a far better set of draws than we'd had the year before.

Glad to see Liverpool out. Too much representation of England in the latter stage will cause two things to happen. (1). The English and the anglophiles will continue to harp on and on about how their league is the best in this World. In certain aspects, this is true but when people start talking like its a birthright issue, then unnecessary foes are made which does not help Chelsea's cause. (2) Increased likelihood of continued overt backlash at English teams from Michelle Plantini and the non-English loving folks which can result in unnecessary bias against the English teams still in the mix including CFC. Would be even more fun to watch if they crashed out of the Europa.

I, for one, am sorry to see Liverpool out. Our clashes the past two seasons in the CL have been very entertaining, offensive affairs. Players like Gerrard, Torres and Reina are top class and should be in the competition. I don't think it helps the competition if Liverpool miss the knock out stages. Perhaps they will win the Europa league - may be their best shot at CL next year.

You're bitter because your captain wanted to leave your club, and only stayed because he received death threats and a contract making him the highest-paid player in the league. You're bitter because while you have as much debt as we have, you've got far less to show for it. You're bitter because you're living on past glories and that CL in 2005, a trophy your captain had to dive for to win. You're bitter because the last time you won any competition by even a single goal, rather than a penalty shoot-out, was 8 and a half years ago. You're bitter because you're stuck with a manger who has no idea about how to win the Premier League. You're bitter because after buying almost 50 players in the last 5 years, you only found a handful of decent ones. You're bitter because even though you laughed and turned your nose up at us for being bought by Roman, you know that you would kill to have him instead of the Yanks. And you're bitter because you know you could never admit that. But most of all, you're bitter because every morning you have to look at the league table and see us above you. And sure, we're just a small club in Fulham with no historee who won the lottery. That must make it ten times worse for you. We're loving every minute of it. I wouldn't swap it for a million trophies won before I was even a thought.

johnnywarren - your abit of a joker aren't you mate, i have been writing on vital football for about 4 years now and since i haven't seen on you much i would take that as alot longer than yourself mate.... i have came on here time and time again and enjoyed some great banter with most of VC members and yes had a couple of arguements but its football thats what we do. what we dont do is start telling people go kill themselves and go to personal levels that you have, yes i have done so but not until you told me to kill myself. i like to think that most of VC members that i have had abit of banter with also see that i have come on here time and time again to congratulate your club on performances against us and against other teams. i have also come here sticking up for you lot when the FA and UEFA have punished yous for very little things such the transfer ban that was given to yous. if you dont like what i write then tuff really i dont care, but when VC write about us then im going to come on here and my say just like most if not all chelsea fans do when we have ahad a pop at yous..... get over it mate see both side for once and enjoy the banter or just simply dont go on to sites that have this kind of banter which both sides enjoy.
