'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Who Else is Sh*tting Themselves?

Why am I so nervous? Why can I not stop thinking about Tuesday night when so much else is going on in my life? My company is expanding into Asia, I've got a seven-month old baby daughter that needs my attention, but yet I still cannot stop, hour by hour, thinking about Inter at home.

But hang on - I'd have took a 2-1 loss away from home to Inter in the first leg. We've got a vital away goal and I'm half-confident of us going through. So why, if I would have took a 2-1 loss away in the first leg, am I so nervous? Why is it so difficult for me to think about anything else that is important in my life other than those crazy 90 (possibly more) minutes on Tuesday?

Hang on! I know why I'm so nervous! It's because I've followed Chelsea since the 80s and I know what it's all about. For years and years we've had cause for optimism only for it to be taken away from us in dramatic fashion.

For example, look at the cruel slip when JT took his penalty against the Mancs in the CL final. Heartbreaking. I was in a pub surrounded by grown men crying. And in a weird way, that's why I love Chelsea.

Mourinho had, ironically, brought me much-needed cheer when he took over as we definitely were the best team in England, and arguably Europe, let alone the best club side in the world. I had been waiting bloody years for 'our time to come' and boy oh boy, how much I loved it. How much I revelled in our success. It was our time and we were due.

And then, in true Chelsea fashion, it all changes, Mourinho is sacked (sorry, leaves 'by mutual consent') and here we go again, another Chelsea roller coaster ride.

So there you have it. I suppose I've answered my own question. Why am I so nervous? It's because I have blue blood and I am Chelsea through and through.

Now you know my interpretation of why I'm nervous, anyone else in the boat?

I'm also really nervous.. everyone thinks we will sail through but i'm not so sure! It will be a tight game! I think it's 50/50.
Rune3k
I think the set pieces have to do the trick...i cant see us scoring from open play
kishaloy_nag_blue
we need somebody unexpected to come gud like IVA,ne body for yuri/alex/mikel to be the match winner
kishaloy_nag_blue
Nope
djdutts
Wake Up you people............don't go into the D&G mode..........if Chelsea can play upto their potential, Inter won't stand a chance, from the beginning if we start attacking it will be JM and his players who will b sh****ng in their shorts. If Inter Milan makes you guys like this, think the propositon of Barca and Utd.....
the_blue_world
Confidence!!! Perhaps people may be a little bit too pessimistic because we know our team too well; we tend to "magnify" our problems. All we need is confidence. The 4-1 win on Saturday has, I believe, given us a huge boost in morale. This game is huge, probably the most important (so far this season), so everyone would take it seriously. But yea, having said that, I am nervous too...
Nika
@Nika-- Can't agree with you more........Saturday's game has given us a morale boost for sure. I just want Chelsea to get rid of the Jose Mourinho thoughts and crush him in his old fortress......
the_blue_world
I stop enjoying football from this point on in the season. Every match becomes a massive stress.
londonfc
I too share your sentiment DJUDUTTS. I just want Wednesday (for Australia) to be over already. The 3 week wait has been bloody painful! However, I think it will serve us well. Had we played the week after the first leg it would have been after being humiliated by Man Citeh and I'm sure we would have been knocked out at that point in time. However, I'm not actually expecting anything this season in the CL. I was convinced we were going to win it last season and I really don't want to be heartbroken like I was after that Iniesta strike. And quite seriously, I don't actually think we can win the title if we've got Europe distracting us as well as the F.A. Cup. So in summation, I'm not expecting to go through, but if we do, I'd be pretty excited. Although I'd take the title over the Champions League this season.
johnnywarren
Well we can't keep a clean sheet any more so we are going to have to win 3-1 or do it on pens - tall order either way. Personally I would rather win the PL and maybe we will if we go out of the EC at this stage - MU and Ar*e will be distracted (I hope!)
Ranners
Nooo! Its always great challenging on 3 fronts & I dont want it to end so soon. One game at a time,no prioritizing.Lets still be in all competitions towards the end of the season so ash/bison/cech can give us that final thrust.I understand its a new manager so have low expectations & what not but I feel this squad is capable of winning it all,1st season Jose style.Yuri hasnt be fully utilised yet.He could be the difference along with flo & joey. They dont call him "russian ronaldinho" for nothing. If that title never went to arshavin he must be good. Oh hell yeah I'm sh_itting myself.
Chelsea24/7
Not sure I would take the Premiership over CL - no way in hell. Everyone knows Chelsea want to win the Champs League - the Premiership is minimal compared to us winning the CL.
djdutts
Well if it isn't Inter it will be the team you face in the QF. That rollercoaster you're talking about is called choking! Just like Chelsea are doing this season in the EPL.
Trennon
djdutts, I'm of the view that your domestic league is always more important than the Champions League, especially after all the bull***** controversy and dare I say it, corruption that goes on in Europe. League > Europe for me.
johnnywarren
D J DUTTS,its a game of football, you've never walked around the old Cold Blow Lane or walked out of Stamford Bridge to play with the Mile End lot only to find the lot behind you have melted away, Now thats what you call Sh***ting yourself!! :0)). On a serious note, its a game of football, if we play to our potential we're through if not life goes on and we'll try again next year. I will get the odd bout of butterflies like Barcelona last year or if we are struggling of course but I'm too long in the tooth to worry about the result.
springy
Champions of England+Champions of Europe(even though it's corrupt)
ACLamp
If you feel this way then you're not fit to watch, let alone play this game. It reveals a defective character - no surprise there. Every team we face is a champion in one form or another. The risks and possibilities are the same. Fenerbahce was no less a risk and we overcame that, probably in the same way we will tomorrow.
Squiddy
I'm Nervous too nervous to feel confident , it's a known fact that Carlo prepares well for a big game and i am counting on him to do it . If it was not Mourinhio i wud hv been sure of a victory at the Bridge........but still i'm optimistic .Let's see what happen's next
adrogbafan
We have to make 'em run the whole match so that Ancelotti's late subs can terrorise Their back four.
ACLamp
*their*
ACLamp
I don't think Sturridge, Kalou and Joey would terrorise them if needed but it might be possible.
Seabourch
I cannot share your nervousness, to be honest. We have the better team. Inter know that, so they are the ones who have to be nervous. They are playing Chelsea at the Bridge, and it is a difference of only one goal. I am sure we'll get that goal or even more and see our team in the quarter-finals.
chelsey
Squiddy, top post mate. You summed it up perfectly. I dont know why our fellow fans are so fearful. We have an incredible record at home that any team in this world will be proud of. Ask, Manu, Barca etc..about playing at stamford bridge. 2-1 in the 1st leg on a away game is not a bad result at all. There is no doubt Inter will come and put 10-men wall in the defence. But, we have enough quality to get a goal. We have scored in each and every game this season barring at St Andews's. So I think we are not in a disastrous position as certain fans are making it to be. I think we will do just enough to go through.
Keyser Soze
Right on, Squiddy...apart from the comment on "defective character". Keyser is right about your post.
Squig
the only thing i'm concerned about is turnbull, and I hate to pick one out of the lot, but it's true... he's a 3rd choice keeper. It's not even that I don't rate him, it just comes down to playing time/experience. That said, Hilario has more of both and looked a liability. So good luck to Ross, we'll need it. Think Alex has bossed the box as of late, like to see him in at CB, instead of Riccy I guess. Any news on yuri's fitness?
parker26
Woah, careful Squiddy, we all know what happens to our posts if we speak out! ;)
Haigh_For_7
Chelsea 2-0 Inter! Our blazing guns will destroy inter & bring an end to Jose's undefeated run @ the bridge!!
nimz
Well I think the cruelty and pain we have suffered in recent years has finally de-humanised me (or de-sensitsed me at least) as I really don't feel a thing ahead of tomorrow. Maybe I'll feel it a bit by tomorrow evening though I'm afraid the CL simply doesn't hold the appeal for me it once did since I realised first hand what a sham it is. I'll be more worried about the FA Cup semi frankly - Que sera, sera!
SpanishBlue
it's that damn self-destruct button that haunts us :-)
merlin
You're right mer, and don't you just know that we'll press it again even if it's the very last kick of the final?!!!
SpanishBlue
yuri is fit, parker26
ACLamp
It's Chelsea - we're bound to do things the hard way! I wouldn't put it past us to take this one to extra time and penalties, to be honest with you. But I wouldn't say I'm nervous - more rather excited. I understand where you're coming from, SpB, but going all the way and finally lifting 'ol big ears, in spite of all of our knockbacks over the years, would be something special indeed.
daspecial1
We are by far the better side. Saturday was a great way for the players to remind themselves how good they are. Get rid of the first 5 minute nerves and we will win 4-1. Inter were awful last Friday. I hope Alex plays as he looks very sharp. Pre-match nerves are fine but pessimism is not.
cfcjustin
I'm not nervous ahead of this game which frankly worries me! When I'm nervous Chelsea usually wins:))))) Anyway I feel exactly the same as ahead of the game vs. Le Arse at the Bridge and that turned out to be a great result for us. This season the team turned up for all big games (except Citeh, if you count that for a big game) so let's have faith that they'll do the job this time too.
zolastic
I stand by my prediction of two chelsea goals inside 20 minutes
norssk
i don't no about you guys, but i rather win the PL, and hopefully during the summer get rid of the dead weight in the team and bring some young future superstars, then go for the tribble.
BluesManCFC
BluesManCFC - ask any Chelsea fan in England whether they'd like to win the Champs League or the Premiership, and 95% would say CL. We have won the UEFA Cup in 1970/1971 and 1997/1998. But NEVER, in all of our years, won the CL or the European Cup. After 100+ years, it's about time.
djdutts
Same here, nervous as the hell awaiting us if we fail. Blue till I die.
warney23
Share the same sentiments dutts. We're fully equipped to take it now so why not? We can make the treble, stay long enough in all comps so the injured can return.Besides I wanna see us win it with this team before we make wholesale changes. They've been together so long, they deserve it.
Chelsea24/7
Sorry, dutts - I'd prefer the league title. Every time.
daspecial1
I wouldn't either djdutts, it's the League every time for me, always will be and I'd be very surprised if the majority didn't feel the same way.
