'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Unofficial Inter Preview

Tuesday 16th March will be remembered, at least for a week or so, as the biggest game of our season. Whether after its climax we are able to push on and challenge three trophies all the way until May or if we simply fade to a sort of pathetic runner`s up attitude; either way that mid-week day in March will be seen as important.

The obvious request from most fans is a dominant display which can humble but not embarrass Jose Mourinho and his Inter team. Whilst his mind-game tactics continue in press conferences, he knows very well that the main talking will be done on the pitch.

Safe passage through to the Quarter Finals with no suspensions and certainly no more injuries is what we ask for, that surely sits in first place above any other request. We all know that 1-0 is sufficient and right now I`d gladly accept that. Leave the Mourinho-bashing for his imminent return to the Premier League to manage either Citeh or Liverpool. The Special One will always remain special in our History and his bravery to taunt us from his new home at the San Siro should be applauded.

The game will be won or lost in Midfield. The aspirations and effort from Drogba, Eto`o, Anelka and Milito will be crucial but I believe it will come down to some "no-man`s land" battles. Lampard will need space in this game; against Citeh and Inter (a) he was pretty much doubled-teamed every time he got a touch of the ball. For this to happen, Mikel will need to provide solid anchoring just in front of Terry and Alex. It is a big game for Obi and he`s more than able to perform against Sneijder.

Ballack will need to put more effort into his game than his usual barracking of the referee. I`m hoping that the longer he stays quiet, important referee decisions aside, the longer he can provide a workmanlike unit on the right with Iva.

Having Yuri back and fit is the best bit of news we`ve had since Hilario was deemed injured. The freedom Malouda will now have must be the main headache for Jose after such an incredible performance on Saturday. I`m the first to admit that I`ve not been on the Frenchman`s side the last couple of years but I`ll hold my hand up and say that he has flipped my opinion of him 180 degrees and I`m overjoyed with his relentless determination to cross, score or dribble his way to a Chelsea victory.

So I`m expecting a staggered 4-4-2 formation which is able, thanks to the forward thinking of Yuri and Iva, to change to 4-3-3 seamlessly and allow Florent his space up front. Anelka will be a key link-man between midfield and attack as he always is and it`s vital that Drogba is on song and he`ll be receiving the most chances.

It`s more than possible to achieve, like Utd last week, a big win over a complacent Inter side. They lost at the weekend in the League and despite their win at the San Siro; it`ll take a lot to beat a determined Chelsea side at Home.

4-4-2 Diamond works well in Europe but looks like it would be more of a 4-5-1 Turnbull Bane-Alex-Terry-Zhirkov Ballack-Mikel-Lampard Anelka(since he thinks he is a midfielder)-Malouda Drogba

My son's 10th Birthday as well...double deep joy and various!!!!!
springy
What has happened to that guy blues first?
ACLamp
I think to beat inter , areial threat i.e. set pieces will have to be on the top ..............
adrogbafan
Yep, we have Drogba, Terry, Alex, Ballack and Ivanovic- that is more than enough.
ACLamp
No controversy, no injuries and a 1 nil scorline to us and I'm happy. I think we'll beat them but I think it'll be tough, a lot tougher than Porto or Milan were for the other two. @ACLamp - who cares?
Zbam
Damnit, ACLamp, that reply is to your query on blues first ;)
Zbam
i m afraid Alex might not play AC lamp
adrogbafan
I hope we get rid of them without having to go through any added time or penalties
ACLamp
F*ck, I ddon't want to see Carvhalo commit another foul in the danger areas and Balllack too.

*don't* sorry for the double post.

I missed Saturdays match so unfortunatly i didn't get to see Malouda at his best, but if he's anything like a keep reading about, we're in for a show. I am scarred going into this and my eyelid keep flickering which is annoying, but man i hope we win.
axlcinema
Malouda could literally run the show tomorrow night and it might be a case where he turns up instead of drogs/lamps etc. Its happened before like when Iva did it against the scousers last year. Alex should play after his performances against Stoke and West Ham.
LifeLongBlue
If anything, Ballack wont have problem with communication with the ref. Wolfgang Stark to ref Chelsea v Inter..
#13
Wolfgang Stark : wonderful . now we need wolfman's to refree our matches
adrogbafan
I'd love to see Alex in defence for this match. I agree, his performances of late have been pretty good. I also hope Malouda has another fantastic game like he did against West Ham, he could be the difference!
Zbam
If Malouda would literally run the show, then what would Ballack do? Walk the show lol.
ACLamp
I think it might prove important for Anelka to get a goal. If he nicks one, Inters central defenders are gonna have to start marking him aswell rather than double teaming drogba out of the game. If Anelka gets one, it could open up the game for drogba and many more chances and hopefully we'll dominate them from then onwards.
JoeyBlueShoes
Double-teamed is and understatement- for them to stop Drogba the whole backline covers him
ACLamp
If Anelka scores early tomorrow night, i'd expect him to get on the scoresheet again within the 90 mins, he likes to score and score. Can't understand how Malouda isn't MOTM on our poll...
LifeLongBlue
one piece of news inter never won with wolfman in charge in CL,could that record continue :) plz.... *whispering softly*
kishaloy_nag_blue
Anelka's performance will be crucial against Inter. I fully expect Carlo to start him on the right although the Frenchman struggled in that position. If Anelka plays well and connects with Drogba and Iva on the right we have a great chance of beating Inter. If he has his usual anonymous game on the flanks I'm afraid Malouda alone will not be sufficient to break the Italian's buss. Personally I'd rather see Carlo give a chance to Joe or Kalou on the right flank but somehow I can't see that happen.

Do you guys remember how Lucio dived against Drogba in the first game? What a **** of a CB!!!! I don't think that guy is ready to handle Drogba. He must be having nightmares right now. If the ref allows a bit of game Drogba will have no problem playing against both of Inter's CBs.

I worry about Julio Cesar as Inter Goalkeeper , he is a tough nut to crack ....and i rate him highly even above Casillas and Cech .Inter will be bombarding us with Long Range Shot's .hope that turnbull is upto the challenge
adrogbafan
I'll take an injury time winner - all the suspense would be well worth it!
merlin
Cesar is my biggest concern too. He's a bloody good keeper, capable of single-handedly rescuing Inter. Based on what I've seen of Inter their CB are not as good as they might appear. They have discipline issues and even with a world class goalkeeper like Cesar behind them they've managed to let in 25 goals this season which is a lot for a usually low scoring league like Serie A. I doubt a decent, self confidential defender would base his game so much on cheats and dives like Lucio did against Drogba. Anyway time will tell, let's hope Drogba bullies them like he knows...
zolastic
25 goals concede for Jose's fantastic defence. WOW!!!
ACLamp
"Ballack will need to put more effort into his game than his usual barracking of the referee." haha loved it,pictured him waving his hands like a man on fire, lets hope it doesnt happen.
Chelsea24/7
We just need to pass the ball fast & crisp while moving around creating spaces for each other. In recent games we havent been creating a lot more movement off the ball which packs things up.Make 'em chase the ball,do that & we're going to the bernabeu.
