Chelsea - Was Anelka Homesick?

This could explain a lot!

It appears that not all footballers are happy to trudge around the world touring.

There`s a lovely little interview on the official site that might explain why Nicolas Anelka threw a right old strop over in South Africa, he was merely homesick!

In the interview, Nicolas talks about touring, pre-season and the big kick-off!

It turns out Nico is quite a family guy and he likes the idea of not going on tours.

"In my career tours have been a regular thing, going away, with Chelsea we have been to China and America, and with other clubs to Korea, Austria, Spain. I prefer to stay here at the training ground for longer, to train and go home. When you have kids and a family you want to see them, and it is great to be back in training and at the same time to be able to come home, like you are already in the season, but it will be good to be away together as a team for a few days, and I hope we can go there and come back with good results."

Yeah, results... Many say they aren't important when it comes to friendly games, but certainly not at Chelsea. All of you going to Germany may be sure that our lads will be out to defeat both Eintracht and HSV.

"We have two games in Germany, so we play them and we want to win them, that's the most important thing. It is good to start in that way before the season, we have a good team and when you play for Chelsea you have to win all your games, so we will go there and try to come back with good results."

What about training so far? Well, Nico assures us he's had enough of it and finally wants to play in a more competitive environment.

"Training so far has been good and I feel fit, we worked very hard and it will be harder and harder until the beginning of the season. After a few days you want to be out playing matches again. I like my football so when I come back, I can't wait to be on the pitch and playing."

Let's hope Anelka will get what he wants (preferably versus Hamburg, which I will be watching from the stands!) and we will see at least glimpses of the team that won the Double.

Jakub, very jealous that you'll be seeing the team in that friendly. hopefully you'll see, for 45 minutes at least, our first eleven for next season minus cech and drogba.

Yeah sure, Anelka was just homesick and thats why he questioned his manager's parentage and walked out on training. I do the same every 6 months or so and walk out of my office in the west end. Did I mention that I change jobs every 6 months or so? Cmon, Anelka was not called Le Sulk by us Arsenal fans for nothing.
Deltaforce
Deltaforce, everyone associated with the team states that Anelka did not say what the press published. The words were invented by the press or possible the leak to the press (Domenech is the obvious culprit) and I have to say; if anyone in football deserved to be questioned it is Domenech. He makes Maradona seems smart.
lindy
lindy, while we can concur that Domenech is about as smart as a barn door, Anelka has a long history of disruption, petulance and ill manners. Its not as if he is whiter than white as he is portrayed out to be here.
Deltaforce
must have been the effects of that red and ****e shirt mate!

i am not sure about the veracity of the quotes, but if true, i would agree with the arse fan... but for chelsea, so far, he has been pretty decent on and off the pitch and that's what matters to us fans...

Deltaforce........pool have history....but that's about it for now! Anelka has history.......but that was even before his Bolton days! Certainly in the time he's been with us, maybe Didier should have learnt a thing or two off him in that department!! (thinking of the last game of the season and that penalty!) No attiude problems whatsoever with us........Domenech deserved all he got!!
mutters
It explains why it was his first international call up then he goes and fecks it all up,allegedly.Let him sulk wherever he wants so long as its not on chelsea's time.
Chelsea24/7
Nopes Merlin, Arsenal ironically remains the only club Anelka has any kind of emotional link to. You will not see him celebrating if/ when he scores against us.
Deltaforce
Actually, with the exception of that spat he had with Avram Grant about taking a penalty he didn't want to in Luzhniki, I would say that Anelka has been more or less a model citizen since coming down from Bolton. He has scored and made goals, tormented opponents with his acceleration, and looks genuinely happy in the unit that Carlo has built. And yes, why Domenech was France boss as long as he was will one day be studied by our descendants as an example of how 21st century people could suffer complete breakdowns in simple logic. If Anelka is homesick I hope he now sees the Bridge as his true home!
