'If It's Football, It's Vital'

El Clasico and Chelsea

Went out on Friday and spent the whole Saturday recuperating. The only game I watched was El-Clasico.

My general comments are as follows:

1.) Why is 'Cristina' Ronaldo being considered top 3 finalist for world footballer of the year?

All this guy does is to score penalty kicks, free Kicks and freebies created by Di Maria against Sporting Gijon and co. He should have been taken out for Callejon in the 2nd half three seasons at Real Madrid now and not even one memorable game against Barcelona. Messi continues to outshine him. Two of Barcelona's goals were a result of Messi's forward runs. Minus modelling for Armani boxers, body washes, and deodorant which other Madrid players can't do, they can score teams 6s and 7s without him. Stats will show you all the goals he has scored, but they won't tell you 11 have been from open play while Messi has 16 from open play, Benzema has 8 and Higuain has 12 goals.

2.) Is Kaka really past it?

What a joke....... Had more touches than Cristina with his few minutes on the pitch. Created the sitter Cristina missed and forced Valdez to the best save all in the space of his few minutes. Truly showed what a real world footballer is supposed to play like with 500 million people watching.

3.) Cesc Fabregas was living up his Arsenal mentality which is choking and losing concentration as well as possession in vital areas of the pitch until his goal.

4.) Puyol was superb and how is he still that fast? My MOTM. Reminded me of JT's performances in the last 2 games we've played.

5.) I see Sanchez learned the tricks of the dirtiest Brazilian fullback of the last 5 years. Is this the end of David Villa's starting XI position with Sanchez's goal yesterday even though Sanchez like Fabregas were not fantastic?

6.) Were Cole and Bosingwa watching yesterday? Dani Alves was showing them how to cross a ball into the back of the 18.

7.) Do you guys remember anything about that Barca midfield? They all remind of Romeu. The ball is so in and out of that department. Biscuits was like Romeu. Win the ball and distribute before you even know who won the tackle...

8.) Sergi Roberto, Cuenca and Thiago will hardly get starting XI shirts. Will rather bid or spend £5mm, £7mm and £15mm - £20mm on them than spend £30mm on Modric.

9.) AVB was getting the heat about his high line, pressing football and being clueless? Did any of you see how a high a line Mourinho's Real Madrid was playing? Yesterday wasn't the first day they played that. They've been playing that all season. However, this is joined by the fantastic pressing of the forward players in Di Maria, Benz and Ozil. Contrary to what a lot of fans and pundits claimed was tactics for the Portuguese league or tactics against Mickey Mouse teams, El Clasico proved his style is just the way modern football is played.

We already knew Barca played this way, but the master tactician in Mourinho is also playing this style of football today. What is funny though is Barca played deeper, but this may be a result of Madrid forwards pushing them deeper....which is what pressing is supposed to achieve?

The game also pointed to us like ours pointed that if you don't take your chances in this style of play. You will get punished. Madrid could have killed that game off in the first 30 minutes Barca had hardly had any chances in that first half, but Real were missing sitters.

10.) I think it is high time the name is changed to El Dominante. Real and Mourinho simply have no answer.

Will AVB and Chelsea be able to beat any of the two?

If there was ONE single lesson to be learned from that game it was. EFFICIENCY. Real was the very best team in first half, but could not convert chances made and lost all initiative and the game to a Barcelona that 1 got very easy goals 2 took them very efficiently. Chelsea has to be as efficient as the most efficient team in Europe tomorrow, that is City. (And yes Christina Ronaldo was awful and should have been substituted at half-time)

I think as Real proved the trick to beating barca is to come at them fast straight out of the traps ,they could have killed off the game very early only for some poor finishing...kinda reminds me of when we went to old trafford...although chelsea dont have a terrible record against barca in CL but that was when we were the best defensive team in europe...I cant see us beating either of them this season unless we become more clinical infront of goal but hey this is football and anyone can beat anyone on a good day

Agree about feeding off Barca's scraps! It may not sound terribly dignified but as we have seen in Romeu, they are willing to let go some wonderfully talented players just because they have so many - I feel like one of Eric's seagulls following the trawler but hey, if we can get fat on it, why not?! And maybe Kaka is still worth a punt. I was one who always did want him, my only worry being whether or not he could adapt to the speed and physicality of the Prem week in week out quickly enough - at his age, we can't wait for him to acclimatise over a couple of seasons. Such is his ability and attitude though, I'd take him like a shot and give it a go. As well as bringing in young talent may be, Arsenal have proved you do need to blend it with a bit of experience too and even as one of Frank's greatest fans, he's not going to last forever!

Nice article KAKUfrank. One of the reasons why RM has lost yesterday was definitely a poor Cristina. A lot of wasted opportunities and loss of the ball. 1st half of these had a super game and Barca could not play their game tavapärarast. Compared to last year, the loss is 0:5 yesterday's loss 1:3 certainly is a step forward for the better. It seems that this year, RM is the second best club in Spain. They have so far played well and had not lost a single game. Mourinho näiab but he could also play attacking football. Would be more correct to say that he is able to exploit the real potential of the team. Real is much better side compared with Chelsea. I've not seen so far that our lazy players are to do such an intensive and effective pressure. We do not have these types of players at the moment (and I have not seen this style of playing in the reserve and the Academy, which is nonsense). AVB must realize that the only way now to play against top teams, have to use the same tactics, such as the Valencia match.

I doubt Barca will sell Thiago Alcantara but Sergi Roberto maybe with buy back clause. As it looks at the moment, maybe only in form PL Allstars Team can beat current Barca (4-2-3-1) : Hart, Richards, Luiz, Kompany, Enrique; Romeu, Toure; Agüero, Silva, Mata ; Van Persie ...... maybe. Don´t take my line-up too serious.
CFCblue.est
Barca and RM are the two best clubs in Europe by some distance, I feel. And had Ronaldo converted his *very* easy chances, we'd have seen a different game. The score flattered Barca, though they were incredible in moments. Real Madrid was great in moments, too, and I totally agree about Kaka, who was very dangerous. Can we beat either club? Not on their best day, I'm sorry to say. We're just not there yet.
RadioactiveD
Benzema (not kaka) and alonso created the 2 sitters cristiana missed. I disagree with u, Ronaldo is always a fantastic and a big game player but there seem to be this mental block any time he faces barca, maybe its the rivalry with messi. I second u on the modric aspect, why the hell must we spend £45m on modric when there are loads of options out there, that cuenca kid is class, has pace to beat full backs and fantastic cross to match.
Dannism
Nice article KAKUfrank. I totally agree with you on the modric part. We don't need to waste 40-45m on modric (even though he has PL exp), rather we can buy those 3 you mentioned(all will come with the ****ing buyout clauses ; screw barca for that). We've already seen how awesome Romeu is. So going for any of those three will really help.
varun.trueblue
surely one of the worst Clasicos I have ever seen in my life... Farcelona is not entertaining anymore...Madrid is getting ruined because of Cristina... I'm sure we can AT LEAST get a draw against both of them !! I'M SURE OF THAT... ENGLISH FOOTBALL ALL THE WAY.....
The Persian
A goal inside twenty seconds. Messi should've been sent off. Ronaldo misses two sitters. Diving, moaning, dirty fouls, moments of insane quality from Iniesta, Ozil, Di Maria, Messi. Not entertaining? Wow.
RadioactiveD
Agreed on Cristina comments.. He really did have a poor game !
Mr.Bear
Nice article Kaku however i think everyone is missing the central issue here. This Barca team is a team for the ages. They rank among the very best..along with the ajax team of yesteryears and the dominant Bayern Munich of times past. Make no mistake about it this match was a huge pyschological defeat for Real because what Barca said by this win and the manner in which they won was we can beat you with ease at your place and we will even spot you a goal early to give you the advantage..it still wont make a difference. The central point is this, Jose has sacrificed his pragmatic approach to soccer. to satisfy the madradistas..he knows how to beat this Barca team but there is only one way..you must pack the mid field, keep your defence solid and compact then have pacy wingers and 1, max 2 deadly efficient strikers to hit them on the counter attack. You must be willing to cede possession to them and aim to win the ball in the midfield or high in your half to counter attack. That is the only way to beat this barca team..to try and play open field soccer with them, to try and out pass and out style the masters of ticka tacka is suicide..I hope the madradistas and people like Alfredo-Di Stefano are happy now..Real won this game on style points but were summarily beaten once again on their home ground. I ask can any one name any team that has beaten this Barca team playing them straight up? There is none and it cannot be done...I know that Bayern wont make the same mistake that Jose and SAF have made multiple times in trying to beat Barca by playing open flowing soccer attempting to compete with them in the possession game. The way to beat Barca is the way Inter did, the way Real did at the Copa del Rey and the way they held them some time back in one of the classicos. I do agree that for whatever reasons CR9 it toothless as the leading striker against Barca..they are in his head..Higuan or Benzema should have led the line..The point is that Reals only chance of winning The champions league is if someone else does the job of taking out Barca for them and frankly the only teams left that have a chance of doing it are either Bayern or Napoli and they will do it by playing ugly pragmatic counter attacking football while soaking up pressure and clogging the mid field the hitting with fast wingers like Robben and Ribery (or Lavezzi and Hamzik) and deadly finishers like gomez(or Cavani)..to try and beat Barca whiel racking up style points is a fools mission. Chelsea should remember how we beat Valencia and replicate that against City..they have a team of technically superior players to our team (lets face it and be honest) to try and beat them playing open back and forth soccer with a high defensive line will ruin us as it did Real against Barca.
GabeU
I disagree with you Dannism on Ronaldo. Please look up his scoring records against Chelsea in the premiership his whole 5 seasons here. How many big games do you truly play at La Liga. I started watching the 2nd half wondering if Mourinho would bench Ronaldo against Barca. Messi goes into El-Clasico knowing the Madrid players will be gunning for him. He invites the players and always releases them. Ronaldo believes he has to score or dribble 50 people to score to show his capability on the big stage. CR also takes an incredible amount of shots for every goal he scores from open play. I said this on wednesday at work that I will always take Higuain over CR. @GabeU, Mourinho wants to buy Cavani, but not for the price Napoli is quoting which is 50mm that PSG are rumored to have bidded for. Mourinho soaked up this pressure well in the first half; the difference here was simple, Inter Milan were clinical with their finishes while Real Madrid were wasteful. The players that were wasteful were not the CFs, but Ronaldo.
KAKUfrank
Get Thiago and Sergi Roberto ASAP. They could never become a regular in that side with Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas and Biscuits.
JT_daniel
I missed all 4 goals because the missus wanted to watch the X Factor kmt
Anarchy
Fabio was great from Real Madrid too.
KAKUfrank
I have always known that Christina is an overrated *****.
ACLamp
As much as I hate Ronaldo, he is still definitely the second best player in the world. - It's true, in the El Classico's he does go hiding a little bit and doesn't get involved as much as Messi does (who is leagues better than Ronaldo). But nevertheless Ronaldo is an amazing player. He does a lot more than score FK's PK's and sitters. Hate him all you want but you can't hide from the fact that he is sensational. he may not turn up in the Classico's (although he was brilliant in the Copa del Ray final) - but it is the hardest, fastest-paced, most action-packed fixture in the world. and with Ronaldo's ego and temperment you can forgive him for being a bit lazy or sulky every now and then, but still he is a phenomenal player, as much as I hate to say it.
hazzabee
Good article. I reckon it will take us 2 or 3 seasons to reach the level of the el Clasico teams. At the moment we still struggle when it comes to tacking chances and our defence isn't strong enough to play the high line. One day AVB will get his tactics to work and we will then be back challenging for the CL every season.
blu4life
I agree strongly with 8. I have a friend who is a huge Barcelona supporter and we talk about the 3 of them, along with Deulofeu.
stamfordblues5
cmon CR7 is overrated, you're having a laugh..i would love to have him if i was AVB,
chelsea44
sorry I made a mistake in typing : Madrid is getting ruined because of Cristina ***IN EL CLASICOS
The Persian
Just like the author said Real could have won this easily in the first half and just before Barca scored the pressing worked very well Barca were panicking...But as always Messi made the difference.
unknown2022
My Classico is Monday night. I culd care less about their Micky Mouse League
JPBlues
now is the best time to poach the youngsters from Barcelona. their team is way too strong for players in the bench to think they have a chance (but im sure that wont last more than 2/3 years with the current squad) plus they still havent realised the mistake they made by selling us Romeu for peanuts ;-)
bluecolombian
that Cuenca and Sergi Roberto kid is a real deal, we must try to highjack them, i've been watching them for sometime now
chelsea44
Madrid will win the league. They will do so by not dropping points to the rest. Mourinho knows that.
Mia Maynard
@gabeu very good point. You dont beat baca by playing the way they play because they are simply the best at what they do, you can't match them playing their style, you may cause them a few problems in the begining, but they would definitely come out on top i thought the 5 - 0 defeat last season taught mou this lesson...
LeyemovicH
agree with Mia Maynard, no matter how much Farcelona is better than Real head-to-head ,Farcelona simply can't keep up with the points Madrid earns against the other teams in SPL
The Persian
Cristina really should have been subbed. Kaka was excellent ! He is getting back to form!
Mr.Bear
You will only win by playing your football and that showed that change of tacts is important when playing a team that is perfect in a style you are trying to instill in your team. Mourinho should have gone with his normal defensive play and counter attack since he has fast players to do the job for him.
Kendemsblue
I doubt Barca will let us have all three. I'm sure they will keep Thiago. Hopefully, we can get Cuenca and Sergi Roberto.
shindu99
Even one of them is ok for me since they are quality players who are trained well.
