Drogba Wants to Stay

Drogba Wants to Stay

After another display, against Napoli, that confirmed Didier Drogba is the best of his type when his mindset is correct, our Ivorian striker has given the broadest hint yet that he wants to stay at Chelsea.

But, before we all start celebrating, he`s also pointed out that the final decision regarding his future is out of his hands with him remarking to the media,

"I will stay at Chelsea for as long as possible but I am now not the master of my own destiny."

"I`m happy here, moments like Wednesday mean a lot. I hope there will be many more. A lot of people said this would be my last Champions League game but the adventure continues."

"This was a Chelsea we had not seen for a long time."

I`m sat firmly in the camp that believes Didier should be enticed to stay, unless we`re willing to enter the transfer market and purchase a striker who is world class and who hasn`t already peaked.

I would love to see him stay at Chelsea but we have to think of the club first. I'm sorry King Drogba but we need to progress as a club which means you will have to move on. You will forever be a legend at the Bridge.

We need ruthless objectivity here..no one here loves Drogs more than me..he is the avatar for one of my sons and he is their favorite character on their soccer video games but we need to keep our feet firmly planted in reality not cloud walking..Drogs is 34,..all of us who have seen him play at his peak know that he is in decline...the 1 yr extension the board offered is all Chelsea should offer..the club policy of players over 30 only getting one year extensions is a sound one and should be followed slavishly (the one exception i would consider for a 2 yr renewal would be JT but no one else). This summer Drogs should move to China and i will wish him well..this would be like Henry's move to the MLS..it in no way diminishes all he has done for us and we wont ever forget him but it is time to move on..we should contact Atletico to finally get some pay back for the favor we did them in lending them courtois by convincing them to sell us Radamel Falcao (Cavani will be astronomically priced though he would have been ideal while Jose will never sell Higuan to us). We need to get one 20-30 goal a season striker this summer..we dont have any in our rooster anymore.

If he really want to stay he can take the one year offer, nothing more! And at a reduced weekly take home too. If he finds a club where he can get better wages we just have to wish him the best.

I like the talk saying he wants to stay but I think at the end of the season he is going.

He clearly still has something to offer but of all the older generation of players, sadly Didier is probably the one I'd be least sorry to lose now.

Whether he stays now largely depends upon the next manager, i think the board have given up negotiations for now and will wait for the next manager to make his mind whether he needs drogba. And besides drogba wont be in a hurry either, he will have clubs lining up and can find another in a short time.

I became a Chelsea fan many years ago thanks to Drogs. I happened to be watching CNN Sports roundup one day & saw him score a goal (probably in the African Nations Cup) that was breath-taking. Looked him up & found he had joined Chelsea. Started following Chelsea, and the rest , as they say, is history. Now coming to the question of Drogba, should he stay, well, though i continue to be a fan of his, i do feel that the sort of night he had against Napoli might get less & less frequent. So i feel we should let him go,rather than give him 2 more years as he desires. Let him make a fortune with some Chinese club, that will also help him with his charitable work in Ivory Coast.

Time and chances never come twice. He should have grabbed the chance and signed a new one year rolling contract or just do the favor and leave by the end of the season.
