Bertrand Watched

One leading Sunday tabloid reckons that Ryan Bertrand has been attracting interest from other clubs.

Bertrand who has always done an admirable job when filling in for Ashley Cole, was, apparently, watched by Martin O`Neill (Sunderland) in the recent match with Newcastle.

Could there be a summer exit for Bertrand?

I wouldn't blame him in the slightest if he does leave. Unless he starts 30-50% of games from the beginning of next season, I'm afraid he'll leave in the January transfer window.
blueklaw
Damn this guy is better than Kieran Gibbs and everybody is tipping the latter to become England's next left back just because of first team appearances. Bertrand would have been an England regular already if he was playing frequently. Martin O'Neill can keep on dreaming. The lad ain't leaving.

If Ryan cant mkae the 1st team place of his own next season and he stays with CFC after that means i wil seriously question Ryan and his motives as a footballer..For all the ppl who says his time wil come dont know what they are talking about...He is 23 already..Most of the guys at 23 is already world class players in football.AC form is so much $hit in most part of this season but we didnt give him enough chances to nail the place fully..Still we are talking about how he is going to be great in another 5 yrs..FGS this guy is more than enough to take over from AC..If we go and sign another left back then i surely expect Ryan to put in a transfer request..
sponnukumar
I don't think he'll leave, he's just got his foot in the door. Though if a new manager does come in, then he might be back to square 1. I hope he does stay because this young lads got bags of potential and talent.
zolas_apprentice
He's shown that he is a capable back up for Cole so I hope he doesn't leave.
AMLang
bertrand wont leave. just a few days ago he gave an interview in which he said that he knows he needs to be patient to nail.down first team spot at chelsea. and ge is determined to play for chelsea as a regular lb. so believe he has determination and patience. but determination and patience has its limits. if he is not given enough chances in coming season, i believe he will leave.
ChampionBlue
We need to keep him play him. Can't lose another homegrown spot.
caspar_blue
hello everyone i just joined the VC forum.
caspar_blue
I say sell Ashley whilst he can still fetch you some pounds and let betrand and van battle for the left back spot
blueblood4life
Bertrand is getting his chances and generally doing well. I doubt he'd want to go, but this again is an issue related to our managerial instabilities. Young players need reassurances and they can't get them with the club changing managers every 6 months.
RadioactiveD
As he showed earlier in the season he can do 120 minutes comfortably, he aint going nowhere
ktm_blues
i agree. we could sell ashley and make some quids. and we can let ryan and patrick fight for the spot.
ChampionBlue
They can't have him. He'll be first choice LB for us in the next 2 years.
Drogba2891
Why dont we loan him out to them so that we can bring PVA into our fold and nurture him as we have done to Bertrand. This way, bertrand will become better with 90 mins every week under his belt and PVA will also learn from being coles understudy
djangbahevans
I hope not, he should get more games next year, we need to keep home grown players for the rules.
Blue Ninja
Hello Caspar!
eddy_theeel
Cole still probably has 1-2 years consistently starting at LB. So he will definitely need to be patient.
AMLang
Martin O‘neil should f(uk off! Fekin *****er!

Over 150 championship games,he's got the experience & defensive nouse! Poor Ryan is the most loaned out & loyal of our youths so far!! Him being 22 just shows you how patient he's been!! The lad deserves some credit, not a bad word said about the club during the time, just getting down & working.Plenty of youngsters have opted out much younger, not him.He knew oppotunities would be limited with the ever-revolving door of managers through the years but he put the club first.Cole is he's only competition & what competition it is to beat but he's not given since Zhirkov came & went or till the day Pereira rumours grew legs till now. For one so young he's been put through his paces & held down regular spots throughtout his loan spells, something not most of our youngsters have been able to do.What I like most about the lad is,like Ashley, they're defenders first & seek to help the attack later.Ash's attacking prowess...er being in the attacking third-ness,came later on in his career.Ryan has being getting forward a lot more in recent games but his earlier apps definitely shows he's a solid Lb first. If or when he does become a regular,I'll put him in my cult fan group along with Iva just for his sheer patience & understanding.I always rated PVA the more highly but I believe Ryan is the more likely to succeed due to his strength in character. With our possible CL omission(GOD FORBID!!),imminent departures & impending transfer caps,we'll need Bertrand more than ever, english, loyal & most experienced youngster,he could be leader of the new school.
Chelsea24/7
Ryan had proved that he is a capable LB whenever he gets chance...We need players like him...who show 100% dedication on the field...he nevers sulks in the field...from what I see, he keeps running to get the ball...I need him to stay & get atleast 50% starts next season...but ig we go and buy a LB, then he shld definetely leave and start playing somewhere he will be a starter....oh god, who know, after 4 yrs, maybe chelsea will spend some 20m pounds to buy him.....we suck big time in promoting young talents....
Blu_run
He is getting the chances and I dont think he will be leaving. They have a longer chelsea career with Patrick VA.
Kendemsblue
Unless we so something stupid, like buy another left back for loads of money, Ryan would be bonkers to leave now. He has waited all this time and finally had his chance to prove his worth this season which he has done admirably. He could be Chelsea's first choice LB in a couple of seasons, why leave?
SpanishBlue
If RDM keeps d job then i see no reason for him to leave cos cole is in his last year and RDM clearly rates him. As for PVA, he is stuggling to get in to an average team in holland and flopped at wigan. Ryan is a better LB and should stay.
Chelz Akamz
The two young guys must stay here for them to cement their place here. They have been tested and we believe with the best left back in Cole mentoring them, they will be a hit in the future and selling will be suicidal
Kendemsblue
welcome caspar blue. be prepared for a bit of abuse here from time to time. otherwise no worries!
trueblue44
he signed a 4yr contract so i'm not worried.
trueblue4.0
He was patient and his patience is paying back with big games in his belt.
