'If It's Football, It's Vital'

21/06/12 - Euro 2012 Match Day Moments

It`s back!

After a twenty-four hour break, due to there being a blank fixture day yesterday, we`re all eagerly awaiting the first of the quarter-finals with the Czech Republic taking on Portugal.

With the match having to be settled on the night, the small matter of a penalty shoot-out could rear its ugly head, although something tells me that if the Czech side gets that far they`ll be both delighted and reliant on a certain Petr Cech replicating the heroics of that night in the Allianz Arena on 19th May 2012.

The Czech side trotting out tonight will, courtesy of a pledge not to shave until they exit the tournament, look a right old hairy bunch but it is, of course, Portugal that will start as the favourites to win the fixture.

Any side with Cristiano Ronaldo in their ranks will present a danger and Chelsea fans will also be keeping a close eye out for Raul Meireles who`ll be prominent in the Portuguese midfield.

I get the impression that the longer this one goes on without Portugal edging ahead, the more the Czech side will fancy their chances. But, for me, there is going to be only one winner tonight and I reckon that, sometime this evening, in the sanctuary of his hotel room, Petr Cech will be reaching for that razor and removing the unflattering facial hair that has sprouted up since he left SW6 after our remarkable celebrations that Sunday afternoon.

Feel free to tune in and leave a few comments in our Match Day thread as the competition starts to separate the fortunate from the brave!

News that our scouts are present at euros to watch theodor gebre selassie, the rb of czech republic. If he can stop C.Ronaldo today,i would like us to snap him immediately b4 werder bremen could. As far as i ve seen,he is the best rb at the euros upto now.Come on theodor, shed us some light.
Hope Portugal don't score more than 3 goals as the Czech republic defence is just too porous. Hope Cech have a very great game.
Ok... I wanna watch the Gebre Selassie lad today, people have been saying a lot about him..
The Czech republic right back has been solid so far
Anyone here know how old the lad is??
@JuniorCFC21, 25 (26 in December)
Nice save by cech anyway..
Nice save by cech anyway..
Good save Petr.....
Gebre Selassie looks like a class act so far were it not for a good block he could of had an assist. I think I could see us going for either him or Debuchy.
@GhostWriter I dont think he does that much in this game. For me, he's just average, thats my opinion..
My exams kept me away from this game against my wish...Damn
Great ball from Raul, Ronaldo hit the woodwork. Raul's long passes are more accurate than his short passes
Nah he has been more than average in this game.
Jovesis i agree with u,premier league is faster than the euros....And portugal would be his first real test
So whats the scoreline? Maybe i can watch the 2nd half.
Selassie guy is quite gud
czech no. 14 Václav Pilař is good winger!! He's just 23 years old, too bad he just signed for wolfburg this year.. Nice save by cech again!
Queresma was one talented dude but he just had to fade away. Nani has been quite wasteful
@Josevis, sorry, should of clarified, I meant so far in the tournament, not in the game, in this game he's actually been pretty quiet, but I was writing it just as he put in that cross.
Keep Raul n sell essien
Nani almost snuck one in there! Looking like extra time/penalties, which is good because it gives us more time to judge the Czech (and Portugese) players!
@GhostWriter I did'nt know him until he was linked to us. Anyway if what you said is true than he might be a good backup. If czech qualifies, than i would watch him every game..
And I jinxed it.
Just wondering, are you guys rooting for czech or portugal? For me its czech ovbiously.
Cech has made some fine saves but will feel he could have done a bit better o the goal. But it ws a BULLET header, it would have been a blinder of a save.
Czech on the basis that we might actually try and get some of their players (no other Chelsea bias as it is 1 player each in terms of head to head), whereas most of the Portugese have already been signed by a top team recently/don't want to move. Although, would love to see more of Joao Moutinho. Think he'd fit in great as a part of a 4-2-3-1 double pivot. But sadly he'd potentially block McEachran.
Anyone know how strong Moutinho is defensively?
Typical meireles, lol. Always miss his shots.
If it goes to penalties the czechs would win.
Well, that is that then. Thank God there wasn't a goal when Cech went up!
The better side won. But Cech had a great game.
Who won guys? Portugal?
Seems hulk is bent on joining chelsea. He just dismissed PSG.
@nightingalle,Roman should make this deal happen,we need him much more than we need debuchy!
The only thing i learnt about the game is Raul is very devastating in the final third, he created 4 clean chances out of the blue for Portugal, he ran his socks off for the team and covered well for players around him. He tends to play well with players that move and are not stagnant, i think we should keep him and sell Essien and Malouda instead. Problem is, if we keep him and get a solid deeplying playmaker we may have to loan Josh out for one year to gain valuable experience in an Epl club that will give him game time- maybe Southampton.
Raul ran himself to the ground. Hulk metaphorically told oil rich psg to get the h.e.l.l out of his face cos the european champions r flirting with him. Apparently,he doesn't like double-dating.
Moutinho was very very impressive
Sell essien, sell malouda, promote and incorporate josh....We can alternate between this trio rammy/lamps/meireles.
@addictedtoblue Moutinho was not very impressive, he only created the goal but lost the ball many times and did not make many forward passes, his movements in the final third was poor. Raul was much better as he created 4 chances and covered very well for CR7 on the left, his linkup play was brilliant, he did not venture forward much as he was covering the defence but whenever he did, something happened! We can keep him for one more season but if we do there will no need keeping Josh, better for him to be loaned out to an EPL club that are in need of a quality CM, so he can get enough game time and get back to his best.
Too bad for big Pete, but one team was to go. Always a next time mate!
