The Shining Star

On those very dark nights when you take a good gaze at the sky, you will notice that when there are plenty of stars they are not all shining so bright.

But there is one that glows brighter and larger than the rest; the brighter one is more visible and more noticeable than the others. And when this distinct star is placed among equally bright stars, it is its stand-out nature that makes it easily spotted amongst the dimmer or lesser glowing and shining stars diminishes significantly.

This is not that the star has lost its shine, rather it simply got lost in the mix of its likes. This is just a thesis which is intended to guide this discourse.

Now, let`s cast our minds back a little to the Ligue 1 days of Eden Hazard. He was indeed the bright and shining star not only within his former club, but also in the entire league. He was so good he won the best player award for two consecutive seasons, notching up 22 goals and 19 assists within the period.

He shined like a million stars and fired from all cylinders, announcing himself as the next big thing in the world of football. He was subsequently rated at the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi. He was always a thorn in the flesh of opposing defenders, noted for his fearless burst of runs and awesome dribbles that sparked off every stage he performed.

It was little wonder scouts from the 'elite of the elite' clubs swarmed around to lay hold of the new beautiful jewel of football. Fast forward to his eventual capture by the 'Champions of Europe', Chelsea in a dramatic fashion, costing the club a reported 32m of the club's recoupment.

On donning the famous blue shirt right from the start, he hit the ground running and shone yet again like a million stars. This can be said to be at a time when the club was 'rebuilding' and more signings were still being expected, and so there were relatively dim stars around.

Suffice it to add here that he was the chief orchestra at Lille as there were more average players there, as he was also at CFC upon arrival. He soon became the cynosure of all eyes in the first few matches, his play racking up 6 assists and a goal, going past defenders like they were not there, dribbling and mesmerizing opponents with explosive runs and taking cracking shots from any distance or direction as well receiving foul tackles and making opponents incur penalties for fun.

All these, however, coincidentally subsided after the arrival of Oscar Dos Santos Emboaba jnr and the return of Juan Mata, as well as the capture of Moses, as each made the team thicker and more lethal.

Since then, Hazard has just been average or just another player. Is it that he lost form, perhaps he is fatigued, or maybe he is adapting to the new team play or teammates, or is it that he is just average, or just a star shining among equally bright stars?

Which ever it is, a repeat and sustenance of his early BPL form, which drew comparison with the likes of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, will be highly appreciated and so will your thoughts.

i didnt get your point what you wanna expect from him in his first season in epl....that he should be scoring goals after goal in each and every match...that he should assisting in each match...and that to in his first season where is trying to adapt to epl with new team and new players....give him a break dude....hazard is a great player and in a star in a making...even ronaldo and messi didnt set the floor on fire in the opening season....give him a full season to adapt and next season you will see differnt hazard....im happy with his performance he has done great job with so much assist till now...chelsea future is secured..

I believe he will explode yet again and moreover he isnt doing badly presently, just that the first few matches he played was exceptional compared to the present. The question there is if his relatively average performance lately has anything to do with the inclusion of other equally exceptional talents.

He's taking it Slowly and Steady, i guess
chuks09
Give him some time mate
Rip The Reds Apart
hsa been fantastic so far. bt nid to work a little on his speed, wen counterattacking. bt in general, he is great
darilngblue
off topic, is it true hazard earns 185pounds a week?
darilngblue
if its true den i think he is overpayed, too much for 21yr old
darilngblue
Well he'll need more time to adapt and when he does with what I have heard about him in his days at lille, he'll soon be ripping teams apart individually. I am excited about the prospect of seeing marin, a friend told me he is the best dribbler at chelsea, when we have mata, hazard, moses vying for that status.
Desmondadonis
Desmond,Marin's continuous absence troubles me,really need him to start showing what he got.

Chelsea are in safe hands and my belief is they are going to forge the best team in the EPL in the near future.

Bro I honestly don't know what you want from Hazard he has 10 assists (direct and in direct) and two goals in the EPL he is the player that dribbles Most per game for Chelsea and its still his first season and I didn't want to Do this but you have forced my hand. In the EPL let's compare Hazard to Oscar. Hazard has 0.4 through balls per game Oscar has 0 Hazard has 5 Direct assists Oscar has 1 Hazard has 2 goals Oscar has 0 Hazard dribbles 1.6 per game Oscar dribbles 1.0 Hazard does 2.1 key passes per game Oscar Does 1.3 kwy passes per game. Oscar tackles and intercepts more then Hazard And has a higher passing accuracy do to the fact Hazard is doing more riskier Passes such as through balls. So now you tell me which is the brighter shining Star and which is dim
Oscar10
Oscar10, I bet opta got something to do about that stats, what about UCL's stats? And besides hazard has started more games than oscar in the epl, which put a dent on that stats.
Desmondadonis
Ok @Desmond in the UCL Oscar rapes it having started all four Games And Hazard starting 2 games Oscar has four goals and 1 assist Hazard has One assist and 0 goals. Oscar has 1.3 key passes per game Hazard has 2 key passes per game Oscar has 1 dribble per game Hazard has 2.3 dribbles per Game. Oscar has 0.3 through balls hazard has 0 Oscar has 0.5 crosses per game Hazard has 1 cross per game
Oscar10
To me Eden is shining and outplaying my expectations...but so are the other two, but they all are not shining near to the levels they will be shining at...we're lucky enough to be blessed with three superstars who will be fighting each other for the ballon d'or.
Gian-Franco/Luca
How is in the world is eden waning , He might not get as many assists/goals after his first 5 games but hes helping out the team , our team would fall apart without him against shakhtar , he set up plays beautifully and also falls back to help the defence , you should see his link up with mata and oscar , the trio are going to take over from xavi and iniesta as the best midfield no doubt about , not this season since he and oscar are 21 , mata is the hub of the team because he's 24 and hes spent a season at chelsea , i love hazard.
CFCTalal
Glad they all play for chelseafc

I wrote this article not because i feel Hazard is under-performing,or because he is on the decline. Read it well and understand. Its just an assumption as to why he hasnt had the MOTM and show-stealing performances for some time now,say since the inclusion of the others, hence,'not that the star has lost its shine' but has been hidden among 'equally' bright stars. Get it? Some people are over critical, cynics! This is not yet another player bashing article, neither was it intended to bring any player under scrutiny. It is more of an ode to the fantastic trio, pleeeaaase!

Good arguments there guys. The best thing is these players are playing for the same team I like most in the EPL and it is chelsea

I actually mourn when I miss a chelsea game at the moment
