Teams Create Their Own Luck!

Teams Create Their Own Luck!

Think back, 2009 and the Champions League semi-final Barcelona v Chelsea.

Guus Hiddink v Pep, a night at the Bridge Essien scored the first goal on the stroke of nine minutes and the Chelsea fans go mental this could yet be their year.

The minutes ticked on and with Chelsea dominating proceedings it was felt this indeed was their year until of course that dreaded Iniesta strike that ultimately send Chelsea crashing out of the UCL.

Fast forward 2012 Camp Nou, semi final, Chelsea v Barcelona, RDM v Pep, to cut a long story short Barcelona dominated proceedings but in the end Chelsea went through to the final.

The point of this article is to show sometimes luck can be better than tactics simply because teams create their own luck. Barcelona were VERY lucky in 2009 to draw with Chelsea at the Bridge and Chelsea were lucky to draw with Barca at the Camp Nou.

On Wednesday Chelsea beat Shakhtar at the Bridge, I later came on Vital Chelsea expecting fans to be happy with the 'lucky' win. Instead some fans were criticizing Robbies tactical nous. Now I'm not going to lie to you and say Robbie is a tactical genius because simply his not.

But what he doesn`t have in tactics he makes up for it installing a never say die attitude in the Chelsea players, a few examples Napoli at the bridge, Barcelona at the Nou Camp, Shakhter at the Bridge, Manchester United in the Capital One Cup.

The list goes on and on.

Do you think for one second Barca fans in 2009 were criticizing Pep after he was very LUCKY to go through to that Final?

The point is that Guus for all his tactics and being genius couldn't advance to the UCL final but Robbie with his luck and never say die attitude did. Now I'm not saying those fans are wrong to look for holes in RDM but come on before the season started people were hoping for fourth place in the EPL and maybe a FA Cup, RDM is exceeding expectations, 2nd in the league and fighting for the title and he has won the FA Cup and UCL already. Give the guy some credit for goodness sake!

I was flipping peeved when I came on here and instead of fans praising another great win at the Bridge they were slating the manager. And of course I saw one fan (won`t mention his name) say he could do a 100 per cent better job then RDM a man that has won the UCL trophy.

No wonder Chelsea fans are so hated. Tactics and all is great but that will come to RDM who is still young and needs experience, many people forget Ferguson, Mourinho, Guus have been at the managerial game for years while RDM has just started.

We might have been lucky to beat Shakhtar at the Bridge something Juve couldn't do by the way but in my eyes teams create their own luck and RDM creates plenty of it.

You can even ask,if a team scores in the 1st or 2nd minutes, and the match ends with that score line, will it be said it was luck?or does luck come only when a team scores at 90+mins?some of us will never get satisfied.

the reason why Jose Mourinho is a legend today is not exactly all becuase of his tactics but his ability to constantly have his team fired up with tht never say never attitude. Thts d kind of manager I have seen RDM to be, and Thts d only kind of manager tht seems to thrive in CFC and thts the kind of manager I approve of. RDM is a gem and I have a feeling he will stay long in helm of affairs in chelsea and win us loads of more trophies

@theodoremaja7 thats what ive been telling my friends...he is our own Pep and we dont need pep.......lets just back our man and for once have blind faith in our manager like manure fans have.....ktbffh

I hope they understand (the name not to be mentioned ones) but hope is dying. BTW, we made a profit as a club eventually! in doing so, we got to be above Arsenal on the rich club table. Being a UCL winner, may I add "done with RDM as our manager" played a huge part in that. Let's pop champagne, shall we?
09/11/2012 17:10:00
Realmike, that's our prayers too....the villains (us, who say what we see type) would keep our mouths shut now and just pray he keeps getting lucky.

God Bless You Man!!!

Football is nothing without luck.. No club has ever won the champions league without some lucks.. Lets Appreciate what we Have before loss it!!!
09/11/2012 18:11:00
This article mention all let support our lucky coach RDM
09/11/2012 18:51:00
theodoremaja7, well said, i dont understand some of our fans here, manure keep winning games at the last minute but they are always not dim lucky bt ppl say they hav 'never say die attitude', our 3rd goal against shaktar was not lucky, the ball didnt hit the post or take any deflection it went in straight and besides it wasnt an own goal too. it was the never say die attitude from the players, PERIOD.
09/11/2012 20:07:00
Well i have said many times before..left to chose between heart and skill i will choose heart every time and left to choose between luck and tactical ability..give me the luck that will get the win because when it is all said and done at this level it is about winning..the record books reflect who won and who lost not who had 75% possession and who parked the us.. While i do place a premium on quality play and skill etc etc but i know where the priorities must lie...effectiveness and efficiency that gets results even if it means winning "ugly".
09/11/2012 20:29:00
Good article, tactics might win you games but luck wins you Championships.
09/11/2012 22:20:00
I wouldn't call barcelona(2009) lucky , buying a referee is not luck.
10/11/2012 02:36:00
Nice article... A couple of fans just have to slate someone to get their points across....
10/11/2012 03:19:00
But we were robbed in 2009 whereas they weren't in 2012.
10/11/2012 05:42:00
Also I hate it when Man United score late goals it's their fighting spirit Or man city when it's Chelsea it's always ""luck" even though it's now Happening consistently. And I for one as a christian don't believe in Luck.
10/11/2012 07:43:00
That attitude of belief can win you many matches regardless the opponent
10/11/2012 07:59:00
Jose once said "a lucky coach is better than a good coach" However, to suggest that RDM is tactically inept is an insult. Go and re watch our game against Manu the one we lust or our UCL final and come back to tell me that he is not a tactician. Why most fans don't respect him is because their is no glamour attached to he becoming our manager. Assuming he achieved what he achieved with us with another club; I can assure you that the same set of fans who are slating him right now will be the one asking Roman to sing him up. Truth must be said most of so called CFC fans today are simply glory hunters, they lack the qualities of a good fans.
10/11/2012 08:02:00
Yeah, they say 'Chance favors the prepared mind' and for all his luck, RDM must be doing something right...I once played snooker with this guy at a bar and he always seemed to hit fluke shots and beat me...the first time he took my money, I called him lucky and challenged him again, the next time he seemed lucky again so I challenged him, after I lost a lot of money, I conceded the truth, he was actually good and because he came off as a bit of a tool thereby making me not like him, his skill/abilities in my mind were not his own, they were down to luck...I was wrong...
10/11/2012 09:13:00
God bless u @theodoremaja,u have echoed exactly my many times have we scored late goals this season??when manUre and $hitty do it they get praised 4 their never say die attitude but when we do its called luck..comon guys u have to earn your luck and it all boils down to determination and hardwork
10/11/2012 23:56:00
Funny thing I have noticed on this Site is that Any article written here is always said to be a well written article, even if someone writes "I just coughed now", people here would still say its a well written article, Hmmm! Beats me. Now let me say that luck was not the reason we beat barcelona, RDM came with a tactic to Defend for 90mins, to which barcelona had no answer to, look at the game against Celtic, barcelona were up against a defensive tactic similar to what chelsea put up and still had no answer to it, wud u say celtic were lucky too? Look if u are not a tactically sound manager, u cannot win championships. RDM came through with a defence tact which won him the ULC, period.
