There is a proverb in my mother's tongue, which states that:
"A good goalie is half of a team"
but after tonight's disappointing draw against Liverpool I came to realize that actually a good striker is half of a team.
Just look at the situation at Liverpool - they play mediocre throughout the whole game, but all of a sudden Suarez comes out of nowhere and saves the day for them. The situation is similar for the two Manchester giants. City have been extremely poor this season, but individual pieces of brilliance by their strikers helped them to end up in a more advanced position than us in the table.
The same applies to United - how many games they have not been the better team, but whether it is RVP or Chicharito, one of their striker manages to help them snatch the crucial 3 points.
At Chelsea, our midfield outclasses both United and City's ones, but their width in the striking department helps them generate more points than us with our brilliant midfield. This is due to the fact that although they are players of extraordinary quality, they are not born finishers and we have difficulties in front of goal.
We lack the player who will take the responsibility when we are with our backs against the wall, someone who can make the difference between one and three points. At the end of the season these points combined usually determine whether one team will be a champion or not.
I very much hope that the club's management identifies the root of the problem. But after the transfer window we should have a figure in our team, who can single-handedly decide the outcome of the game, because without such a player I am afraid that our title aspirations could be over much sooner than we expect.
