The Thoughts of Di Matteo - Liverpool (h)

The Thoughts of Di Matteo - Liverpool (h)

Is it me or did something change the instant John Terry went down with a bad injury?

Was that the moment that things started to swing in the direction of Liverpool as we contemplated being without our leader for a long period of time?

Did the passing of the armband to Petr Cech see us lose that bit of drive and the enthusiasm that seemed to be seeing us take control?

Three questions that might spark a discussion!

But one thing is for certain, this morning we`re left to rue the fact that we didn`t take advantage of the chances we did create or of the sloppy passing that Liverpool were often guilty of and, in the end, we were left to hang on grimly for a point, thankful to Petr Cech for his coolness and ability.

After the final whistle and facing the press, Roberto Di Matteo gave his views of how he thought things had gone, remarking to the media,

"We needed to score a second goal to kill the game off and we had the chances to do that but missed the opportunities."

"A 10 lead is always dangerous and it was a poor goal to concede from a corner because we had our man-marking in place and Suarez pushed Ramires away to create the space to nod the ball in."

"Sometimes the ref spots those little shoves, sometimes they don`t."

"When United won here we had two sent off and they scored an offside winner and that`s a big advantage for the opposition."

"But we`re still playing well and creating chances and we`re in much better shape than in previous years and very close to our best."

"We`re still in the mix but the amount of games we have played in this period has some kind of effect."

It certainly has and one win in our last three Premier League games is cause for concern.

Let`s hope our annual bad moment hasn`t started early!

Please RDM, sir, start game with 4-4-2 with different set of players, our trio of genius looked really exhausted yesterday

He himself acknowledged the fact that the games are coming fast and the lads are getting tired, we've been playing a game twice a week over a period of time and that's not including the international friendlies and qualifiers, I am sure we can make things work better for us and it all depends on the coach

He has overachved at chelsea and the next 5 games are very important for all of us. I hope he uses more players in games and its sad to see some players who used to be comfortable on the ball lose their touch due to being benched.

RDM is sacking himslf slowly, good coaches dont use a single formation for every match, and also the same players.

RDM in my opinion is sacked already! Am not saying that because am one impatient fan but for the fact that with a collection of young creative players, I dont think we are getting the best from the team yet. And I don't see player rotation happening here which will lead to burn out way before the season ends. Reading the game, making appropriate changes and making the changes on time are areas I think RDM has not shown great skills. He seem to be a very good man manager which is a big thing added to that is his cool-calm nature which is also a good thing for the club considering we are always getting not very good press and an all out-there coach as AVM was would not good for us. I was happy when RDM was offered the job but always had doubt if he was ready for a big gig like Chelsea. Yes he won us the FA and Champion's league but I think that was more down to the hunger of the players mixed with the good RDM'S man managing skills. However, I don't see RDM still being our coach if the likes of Pep start looking for a gig so maybe he should be praying the Pep extends his sabbatical for another year.

My god its November, 3rd in the league and only 1 point behind second and 3 behind the top, 1st equal top of our group for champs league and people are talking about RDM getting the sack.. Seriously guys.. Are we really doing that badly? So many predicted a 2nd/3rd finish this season as being par given transition etc (which is still happening mind you). We need to calm down.

@Gaban - how would we survive with 4-4-2 when our 3 maestros arent that good defensively? Who plays where?

4-4-2? we only have Sturridge and Torres to play as STs. 4-4-2 is the worst formation we could use. Keep the 4-2-3-1 formation and in the worst case scenario use 4-3-3. What we need to do is start resting Oscar, Hazard and Mata. We should rest Oscar or Hazard against WBA and not play them at all. Victor Moses can provide good cover.

Suarez was virtually unmarked when he headed in the equalizer. I doubt this would be allowed to happen if Terry was still on the pitch.

Oh, my goodness! I cant believe some of us are already calling for the head of the coach, shows how fickle-minded you are. I will keep supporting the team no matter what happens, I have seen enough to believe in the future of this team.

@ Bluekiwi, no we aint doing that badly I think its just the nature of the draws we 've had and probably that El Nino is not scoring and RDM is still sticking with him rather than rotate. I am not advocating for him to be sacked now but I never thought RDM was ready for a big gig like Chelsea. I love the guy and hope he succeeds!!

you know a Manager is useless the moment he is in denial, blaming all else but himself. What variation has he brought, what "tactical nous" has he even imitated to show??

@mq, cmmon mate, he admitted that the players are already tired atleast he owned up to that part of the blame, he got his starting formation right most times, and the problem is that he sticks with underperformers atimes and refuse to make impressive changes, that is the only blight in this season, I am grateful that he integrated oscar into the team so fast, which is credit to him, but he needs to get torres off that team for starters, try sturridge or moses, I can bet on it that we'll be better upfront if nando aint playing

As for the 4-4-2 formation u guys are laughing about, I wonder why u think it can't work, we have the personel to make it work and it can be done if the manager knows what he is doing, he can do a 100% better job, if we are to play a formation I'll try it this way cech,cole,cahill,iva,cesar,mikel,ramires,oscar,mata,moses,sturridge/torres in my opinion, we have two defensive midfielders which is enough to soak in waves after waves of attack, we have a oscar who have goos passing skills and knows how to press, mata can be the midfield schemer and moses can be the main striker or play behind a striker in torres, and if torres don't work, we use sturridge, both strikers can feed off eachother and cause havoc with their pace and trickery upfront, hazard can come in for moses in the 2nd half.

We can also be brave if we want with something like this cech, cole, luiz, cahill, cesar, mikel, oscar, mata, hazard, moses, torres in this formation I kept oscar alongside mikel bcos of his passing ability, he can turn a game around by initiating a counter attack with his passing ability and accuracy ,mikel will just have to sit back and not surge forward as he use to recently, he'll stay as a shield and blocking 4 mata will be the orchestrator and hazard can play the free role in the middle of the pack, moses and torres can feed off each other, but the crack in this formation is that we can't excel with it againsta physical side if we are not ontop of our game, we'll be outmuscled off the ball, but if its perfected we can be very good to the point of outscoring our opponents so as for me, I won't mind trying it, it can work

The ref was okay in that match. We need to take the chances we get else, we start looking into excuses.

DESMOND it took a visit from Roman that Lamps was dropped and we saw Oscar, do you really think RDM would have done that going into a 'big' game vs Juventus?? He prefers to 'slowly' integrate players as we can see with Marin
