'If It's Football, It's Vital'

West Brom 2 Chelsea 1

Steve Clarke had the last laugh this afternoon as Chelsea`s recent record, in the Premier League, saw them fail to win in four attempts, as the recent blip continued.

Team News - Roberto Di Matteo, perhaps with the trip to Juventus, in midweek, in mind made five changes for the trip to the Hawthorns. Out of the line up from that which started against Liverpool were Ivanovic, Terry, Ramires, Mata and Oscar with Luiz, Cahill, Romeu, Moses and Sturridge coming in.

Chelsea: Cech, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Luiz, Bertrand, Romeu, Mikel, Hazard, Sturridge, Torres, Moses.

Subs: Turnbull, Ivanovic, Cole, Ramires, Mata, Oscar, Marin.

First Half - Chelsea almost took an early lead when Ridgewell cleared off the line after good work from Sturridge and Moses saw Bertrand try his luck from a central position in the penalty area.

But Chelsea were to fall behind shortly after, courtesy of a counter-attack, when Gera and Morrison combined for Shane Long, who had lost Luiz, to head home with ten minutes on the clock.

With twenty minutes gone perhaps the best summing up of how things were going was that Boaz Myhill, in the West Brom goal, had yet to be called into action. Chelsea were trying to push up but West Brom were only too willing to look for that counter-attacking opportunity.

Myhill finally got tested with a long range shot from Sturridge before Long cut inside Cahill and shot past the post. But against the run of play Chelsea got an equalizer, in the 39th minute, when a cross from Azpilicueta saw a header from Eden Hazard deflect off of Jones to beat Myhill.

Half Time - West Brom 1 Chelsea 1

Second Half - Neither side made any changes during the break and Chelsea started the second half well with Sturridge forcing a save from Myhill. But it was to be our hosts who were to take the lead when Peter Odemwingie headed home a cross from Long, in the 50th minute.

Chelsea responded well to going behind and Olsson had to do well to prevent a second equalizer going in. Di Matteo introduced Oscar and Mata, withdrawing Torres and Romeu, to try and salvage something from the game.

Myhill, following a great ball from Mata, produced good save from Sturridge as Mata began to pull the strings. A shout for a penalty, after a shove on Moses by Yacob, was turned down. Yacob then saw a long range shot almost deceive Cech as West Brom once again threatened on the counter-attack.

Sturridge looked odds-on to score, after a ball from Mata, but his low shot was saved by Myhill. A great touch from Oscar saw Sturridge hit his shot across the goal as time began to run out.

With four minutes of stoppage time announced Chelsea continued to pour forward but West Brom`s resistance was not to be broken and three more points were lost.

With Torres we have a selfless player who can never get in good positions. With Sturridge we have a selfish striker who always gets in good positions. The truth is neither of them are good enough. I'd take Kalou back in a heartbeat. Verdict: We absolutely need a new striker.
k.chelski
Team to start against Juve: (4-2-3-1) Cech--Azpi, Cahill, Ivanovic, Cole---Ramieres, Oscar---Moses, Mata, Hazard----STURRIDGE!!!
Ess...DaBison
RDM simply under-rated them and he paid for it big time.He should be reminded that Mr.Roman is not that patient
Cobham78
Absolutely need a finisher!!! This is exactly why Studge doesn't start... he is not much better then Torres. He makes those runs that Torres doesn't any more, but he doesn't finish them off with all the chances that he gets.
Tiraspol
which d.head voted Luiz as MOTM?
Ess...DaBison
So who wants a Columbian striker for Christmas?
BlueCowboy
Didnt watch the match but man we are litterally *****ing away our title chances. Dissapointing. Keeping hope of the title would make for an entertaining season. Guess its going to be managerial merry go round as rdm will be sacked. Im going to blame lack of strikers. Too bad torres is killing our clubs chances. Beginning to think hes a cancer that will continue to pull us down. We need to cut him out
Clingy
So RDM still believe he can win the Ucl and get automatic qualification like last season or what? This was how it all began last season and we still think is gonna happen as it was last season? Why can't we go through wesbrom before we think about juve? Am afraid!
munich Glory
Further proof once again why we need a new striker our finishing once again like in the last game lets us down. What did Ron Gourlay say after Drogba left we have Fernando Torres who will score lots of goals not today. Also I don't get why we didn't play Marin in this match.
Elbowz
Our problem is the defense. I am beginning to doubt Luiz's ability to play in Chelsea
teepie
Ive been callin gfor Studge to start all season long...and today shows why. Does anyone else want to try and justify why Torres should start ahead of him anymore, be my guest!
Ess...DaBison
I have a feeling that Santa is going to be good to us this year, and will bring us a very expensive gift. Here's a hint: He's Columbian...
bleedblueSTL
Who do we actually have leading the line. We have torres, and lets be fsir to him couldnt hit a barn door even if it had a giant poster of a rapist attacking his mother. Bin him hes useless
Clingy
Petr Cech almost managed to do what Torres failed to do the entire time he was on the pitch - score a goal!
Blue Day
RDM was not at fault here guys. I don't understand what else you want from him. The players are tired from the International break and then we have a great match mid-week against Juve. We are creating chances and midfield is doing well. what we lacked is defensive discipline. Luiz is not that guy for us at the defense. I am so frustrated these days watching him play. Marin should also be given some chances but then, RDM sees him week in, week out in training. He probably has his reasons
teepie
On a postive note: Azpilicueta was magnificent today. Looks very solid defensively and can cross with both feet. Also, Chalobah is progressing nicely at Watford, and can hopefully develop into the player Mikel couldn't. otherwise it was the same old, really. opposite team scores when oppurtunities are given, while we miss one sitter after another. I was impressed with Sturridges's movement though. Definitely thinks he merits a starting spot against Juve.
Puttinuttan
I wont blame RDM much for this one, he tried to rest players and made his subs early, i was happy he took Torres off too. He shouldnt have start both Romeu and Mikel in the pivot both players are like six and half a dozen, if he must start Torres i would have love to see him playing behind Sturridge instead of other way round.
RayBell
We are so afraid to take a gamble and we will conyinue to pay the price. Our two strikers have failed, take a gamble on Islam Feruz and keep these mediocre and mouth-making strikers on the bench.
munich Glory
I know Danny's qualities and i say this time and time agian...he is a great striker and can be world class if given the opportunity. Today he was rusty because he hasn't played enough games but if he had 3-4 90mins under his belt I am convinced he would have scored a hatrick today.
Ess...DaBison
I don't think sacking RDM will solve anything here. And I sincerely hope the board will be sensible enough to see that. If any of this does go back to RDM it is why he wouldn't get another striker in the summer. Counting the cost of that very dear mistake is nowhere near to being over yet. But for now, Sturridge is definitely the one to start.
Carefree_1990
Di Matteo has muffed it big time
kdnachi
Torres to plày anther 90 minutes oñ Tuesday.... I was impressed with sturridge unlike most ppl here. This game has cost us the league... best we can gun for now is second or top 4... and I think we need a new manager.
Blue in Colorado
Sturridge has all the attribute to become a world class striker...its because he's english and not from spain or south america that people wont realise this
Ess...DaBison
I also have to say for most part of the second half, Mikel was playing DM and CB. Did you notice this too? Luiz failed to track back each time he foolishly gives the ball away up front. Romeu too had a decent game. I don't get this sentiments of them being slow. What is that? they distributed the ball well and their passes were coordinated. what we lacked is simply defensive discipline and accurate finishing.
teepie
I want us to stick with rdm i like him. Will he be given a chsnce if this run of results continues though....think the team needs to pull the socks up
Clingy
We take positives rather than points from matches these days, so let's look at a few. Azpi again made us all smile, I daresay. And if this is any consolation at all, this isn't a slump. The whole team is not looking hapless as they use to this time every year. The problem is clear as daylight. We always go into a season half-cocked. Last season it was zip creativity, and this year it's duff strikers.
Carefree_1990
@blue in colorade why do you think we need a new manager ? what thing do you think other managers would have done different
Don capon
di matteo seem to be afraid of torres.I hope that will contribute to his sack.Beside is marin a chelsea player cos i don't think so and again bertrand need some serious schooling.5 point behind city,6 behind manure and two point ahead of everton how pathethic.
sunnymakcres
We are effectively playing every game with 10 men...no striker worth the name. Torres looks listless, unfocussed and almost like he doesn't want to be out there! Never in the right position. But to be honest he received very little service today while out there. Sturridge wants it, moves well but almost always makes the wrong decision...like the one today in the 86th min. with Mata clearly in the clear at the far post and Danny boy elects to shoot. *Luiz....you don't know which is going to show up - the really good defender or the casual, poor one who showed up today. Beginning to think he's not good enough for Chelsea.
Squig
send POORESS packing...i never wanted the tool in the first place
Ess...DaBison
When I said that Luiz is costing us goals every game, I got called a "stupid plastic who doesn't know his stuff". Those who still think there is room for argument, fark yourselves. I'm not saying he's a shoite player. He was good for us last year. He's just having a horrendous time and he needs a serious kick in the arse and some bench-time. Azpilicueta proved today that he is good enough to start some games and Ivanovic proved against Swansea that he was good enough to start some games in the centre too. Drop Luiz, put Ivanovic in the centre and play Azpi on the right. We are not even making it difficult for God's sake. We are easier to score against than Southampton!
FrLamp
BRING BACK MALOUDA hahahaha
Marcel
Blue In Colorado - and you will probably come back here tomorrow to say that you were very angry in the heat of the moment and didn't mean what you said, like the other day? Stick to NFL you dick.
FrLamp
i for once want RDM to come out and say you know what the lads were poor, yes defending your team is important sometimes but when you are earning over 100 grand a week you need to be told if you are playing poor
Marcel
If sturidge started as many games as torres had,he would be finishing far much better than today. His runs and touches were amazing, mata kept on finding him without breaking any sweat. That says alot dosent it? Rdm if u stil want to keep your job,sit torres down on the bench. His done for me. David luiz is becoming a liability,he simply can not defend.
ojvmata
I think the RDM should receive the blame for the loss. Starting Torres and Sturridge together was pointless, Sturridge alone should have started. I believe RDM should have known by now that Mikel - Romeu combo won't work out for us.. and lastly, Moses should have been withdrawn, he was useless most of the time, should have given Marin a chance... The slow to recover Romeu-Mikel combo was why our midfield was porous and we conceded those goals...
Latunvic
Sturridge was ok, he did not hit target but everytime he has the ball he kept it well unlike FT9 who loses posession every now and then. he could have done better in some situations but give him credit for playing like a striker.
RayBell
Oh and Romeu did pretty good too 'slong he was on for. Nothing like some game time to perk up the misfiring ones.
Carefree_1990
3 things chelsea need disagree if you want but its what we need a tall quick centre back with a brain, a dominating centre midfielder someone who when you seem him coming to tackle you you poo yourself and lastly we all know we need a striker
Marcel
please falcao is the answer to our shameful attack torres is just to bad to be call an attacker, marin was entirely on the bench for the duration of the game. How can a £50 million pound striker not get an attempt on target.Islam feruz is on the wings waiting.
sunnymakcres
@Latunvic - we got completely annihilated on the break with Moses on the right and you think he should have played Marin instead? For God's sake lads, you cannot go into each game with a 150% attack plan everytime.
FrLamp
@Don capon I'be been supporting rdm for weeks now but if sacking him means we'll drop Torres or start winning again then I'll take it. I've lost faith and it usually helps looking at the touchline when you r down and seeing a passionate, fired up manager and not some gaunt-looking, defeated and sad fellow, which was what I saw today.
Blue in Colorado
Moses was useless most of the time???? #@$%^&
Carefree_1990
shane long and morrison. Two defenders to handle long and two midfielders to handle morrison. and we couldnt do that. Yacob and Mulumbu were able to mark hazard with ease until the half hour mark because they stuck to their jobs. Torres is finished. clearly. no sympathy at all from me now. Sturridge was wasteful but at least he shows what we are lacking. His movement was good today, and if we sign someone who can finish we can walk games. Mata was brilliant and Oscar's backheel pass to sturridge was out of the world. Hazard is quality, you can see. But he had to go deep to collect the ball when he played centrally. Romeu at least has the tactical awareness to pass it around effectively. We had enough chances to win 2 games today.
Mia Maynard
You can't blame Sturridge for the misses, he needs more time and confidence... Look at Giroud when he started for Arsenal, wasn't getting the goals though he had good runs and movements, he is starting to get the goals now....
Latunvic
Bring back Drogba till when you announce the signing of two new strikers come 1st of january or risk top4 spot
munich Glory
@FrLamp, you were spot on. I don't like slagging our players but isn't this obvious? Luiz needs to learn some vital lessons. he looks uninterested these days.
teepie
@Essa...DaBison....Sturridge to become a world class striker???? @Blue in Colorado....Fire RDM?????? Astute....YEOWWWWW!...not. :() We DO need a new striker in January...but it may be too late to be in the running for any trophies this year by then. We DO need to send Luiz a message and bench him for a while.
Squig
At the moment I honestly wouldn't be against giving Feruz some minutes of of the bench, I mean he can't do worse than Torres right?
CalculatedKalou
Our defenders and strikers are sh|t
Rip The Reds Apart
To be fair, I'm not worried in the least. Yes we have lost two and drawn two in our last 4 but we are nowhere near the awful team we were under AVB and Carlo in November back then. We're just missing some small details and making isolated mistakes which the opposing team is always lucky to take full advantage of. I'm sure we're going to turn this around.
FrLamp
agree with FrLamp.drop luiz and play iva with azpi at RB.i can't take it anymore with this QPR/Norwich defense!
Chelsea n Torres Fan
juan mata has been at chelsea less time and scored more goals torres doesnt shoot if you have a striker who doesnt shoot then technically you have 10 men on the pitch, we looked more of a threat when he wasnt on the field. and the fact he likes to run his mouth when things dont go his way annoys me more
Marcel
We really should have a look at what Bamford can bring to the table. January's still some way off.
Carefree_1990
The most important thing is ensuring we get through the CL group stages, beating Leeds in the COC will also give us a slight boost at the great chance of a trophy. Provided we're also 3rd by Christmas and I'll be happy.
CalculatedKalou
@Blue In Colorado - So you do think that we should sack RDM because "he looks sad on the touchline". Thank you for the insight you dick. AVB was probably the biggest clown we've had on our touchline in the last decade and it didn't help him at all.
FrLamp
Its not just RDM that needs to tell some home truths some of the fans need to stop putting their head in the sand. David Luiz has been atrocious- costing the team goals every week yet 5 days later when it comes to predicting the team 80% of you on here pick him in your line ups. Its not a big problem for Luiz if his manager doesn't drop him and the fans love him despite his ineptitude at the back. Personally I would start Ivanovic and Cahill at the back thats until JT returns then start Ivanovic/JT. Bertrand should be a last resort and Cole should be given a 2 year rather than a one year deal.
FootballFan199025
@frlamp, ha, the usual stick-to-nfl tripe; where are u from again...? anyway, I'm more of a CFC fanatic than you will ever be. Robbie will be fired on Tuesday or Wednesday latest whether u like it or not.
Blue in Colorado
Moses gave all sort of problems to west brom defense u fool!
Chelsea n Torres Fan
Thank you torres for the few season you have played for chelsea,we gave you an fa cup trophy and a ucl trophy and possibly you are still going to win the world club trophy with chelsea but our marriage with you must come to an end bcos you have cost me so much pain. You can't shoot, you can't position yourself, you can't head rather you prefer to be called a midfielder.thanks for your service.Falcao you are highly welcome to sw6.
sunnymakcres
That last one from Blue in Colorado had me in stitches, even at a time like this. Very childish, that.
Carefree_1990
Feruz, Bamford, I really don't care who, just not Torres.
CalculatedKalou
Apperently we have been very poor since we announced a 1.4 million pound profit. Perhaps thats the reason Arsenal have been so poor over the years
munich Glory
....and @frlamp, if he's still our manager by the next league game, then u have all d right to run your filthy mouth.. deal?
Blue in Colorado
We need Wilfred Bony to replace Torres.
Blue Day
Is Drogba training with us now? Can we borrow him?
Rip The Reds Apart
has anyone noticed when teams play chelsea every one of the opposition players will have there best game they likely to have all season why agaisnt us lol no win in 4 games something needs to be addressed and quick
Marcel
@FrLamp, I'm not saying start Marin, but bring him in when we needed goals and Moses was ineffective which is why he had to do more of defending than attacking. we had two defensive midfielders and still lost, what's the point playing very defensive and still lose, it makes no sense.... We could have given them more to worry about with Marin, let Azpi focus more on defending with just a few occasional forward runs....
Latunvic
@Blue In Colorado - Yes of course, so much of a bigger fan than me that you can't even bear a defeat against West Brom away. So bigger a fan than me that you ask for RDM to be sacked when we are third in the league. Go fark yourself.
FrLamp
i bet bamford and islam feruz is given a chance from now to january will do what this dirgrace of a striker call torres can not do for chelseafc.
sunnymakcres
blue in colorado- grow some sense. you are talking a lot of bull. idiot.
blueisdcolor
The defensive mids didn't do a particularly neat job of staying close to Morrison. He was the one creating all sorts of trouble with those long balls aimed at Long, but neither of those resulted in goals. One came of an absolutely schoolboy piece of marking, and the goalie could've saved the second. And Moses, though he somewhat faded out in the second half after switching flanks was a livewire throughout the first half. Really can't agree.
Carefree_1990
@Blue In Colorado - Deal? Stick to your childish predictions alone you karnt.
FrLamp
West Brom weren't lucky today, they were efficient, and capitalized on our errors, which is what football is about. We got our only goal by capitalizing on their error too...
Latunvic
People keep saying "we need this player" "we need that player"@#$#@$.... what we need is a good manager with some sound tactical brain.... and I'm glad Roman agrees.
Blue in Colorado
Sack RDM....Jesus. I am going back to bed. If Humza is still online, Suarez is now the highest goal scorer in the PL. Demba Ba is now on 8 goals in the PL.
KAKUfrank
Maybe rdm's team selection was dodgy, but when you've just had a pointless international break in the last week then team rotation was a must, however does that mean that the players who came in to replace the norm are not good enough, it's all well and good having the creativity in the side but if you are failing to score goals and defend properly then you have a serious problem. Why oh why have we left our selves in this position.
Blue1989
torres out, torres out, torres out, torres out, phfurck you torres for making me regret why you ever play for chelseafc.
sunnymakcres
Painful loss no doubt by our standard as fans and as a club…we could have won the match but truth is we did not..the truth no matter how one looks at Chelsea, we are still a team in transition..yes we had a good start but it does not change the fact that we are a team in transition. Despite this fact, I made some observations: I have watched Bertrand closely this season, he is a decent young player but not an excellent left back or left sided mid field….decent is the word to describe him. As a left back, he was all over the place against Shaktar (to be honest), almost single handedly costing us the match, and was not good today (together with Luiz). I think the path of wisdom is either give Ashley cole a decent 2 year extension so that we can observe how Bertrand evolve, or sign a decent left back that can slot in immediately while Bert remains a squad player…. We are short in central midfield and we need one extra player to compliment Mikel and Ramires..Romeu is still a bit far off…Wish Essien had stayed at least for this season, he has been playing decently well at madrid but that’s history… I will keep the striker bit simple. FT9 no more deserves to be on our payroll and while Sturidge is clearly an upgrade on FT9, he is not good enough to be our first choice striker, he is an able back up at best. Before you argue it, just look at our rivals and check their main strikers..Man U (Van persie), City (Aguero or Tevez), and even outside England, it’s the same. Just to make a point to FT9, we should make Danny the first choice striker till January and by then get in a quality striker, it does not have to be 50 million, but someone that has positional sense and that can actually finish. If Long or Odemwinge was our striker today, I have no boubt that we would have won. By January, Torres should be sold for whatever price before he inflicts the dressing room with a sulking attitude. Lets deal with it, not all investments work out and bear fruit. So while we are still in transition, I think we need two players (if we extend Cole’s contract) or three if we don’t…A quality striker, a central midfielder and a left back (if we choose to release Cole)…Although may be a smart thing to do will be to sign a quality striker, give Cole a two year contract and recall Essien..Whatever we do…truth is we are still 3-4 players short of overall quality and it is so obvious… And RDM need to stop playing Romeu-Mikel, they are both defensive and we are one player short in the attacking third...none of both is a box to box...an appropriate double pivot in my opinion is a DM and a box to box...i hope RDM is learning...even though one has to start thinking if he will realistically finish two years here let alone an extension NB: if Barca comes back with at least 25 million for Luiz, we should sell without much taught.

Its not DEAD WOODS again but DEAD STRIKERS and SLEEPING DEFENDERS

man due some of you guys actually play football. even though im not a huge fan of RDM we cant just be sacking managers like changing shirts. Moses did ok in the first half but disappear in the second. if ever needed a side by side comparison between torres and sturridge we got it today. sturridge just could be a little sharper but i believe if he had more games he would be. we need another striker badly but we shouldn't let sturridge go neither. cause it looks like he can play wing lone striker or off a striker. our defense need a serious kick in the donkey. Luiz even though a good player he need a baby sitter on the defense. betrand got owned by peter o. a couple of times. but some you fans need to calm down.
Blue_yank
Are we not missing @mq here today? Please i need to read why Mikel caused us 3 points today. @Mq knows these....

I dont blame rdm atall for today's loss, everyone on VC has been clamouring for change of players in some games which he did today with juve in mind and also resting few key players. Romeu did well today,so did azpi, betrand and studge. With a litle bit mor work on our defence,we will be fine till jan when we welcom the ruthles columbian..keep the faith

@frlamp easy man. You re crossin boundary with these your name callin..

if you play badly and end up winning it is because someone scored a goal. strikers bail you out. look at the manchester sides. i doubt united have played better than we played today in any game. average team but quality strikers.
Mia Maynard
Clamoring for change doesn't suggest unintelligent changes... Mikel and Romeu combo was bad decision. Moreover, not much changes in the team, only Mata and Oscar dropped. It's not about rotation but right and sensible rotation. With Mikel and Romeu playing together, we were already short of one, Torres was another short one...
Latunvic
@Merlin my diction was clean and I'm sorry if anyone's offended. However, it must be said that @frlamp and @blueisdcolor constantly use profane language and intentionally make it visible.
Blue in Colorado
We would have had options in midfield had Meireles not been sold and Yossi + Josh + Essien sent on loan...and who did we do all that in order to keep happy? Hazard has gone missing for me although he scored. I'm not sure why he starts or plays almost every game but he should not. RDM is not doing as well as he should be with this team and WBM showed him up...well S. Clarke did. We came up against a well organised drilled team with our disjointed group lacking a cutting edge. Torres should spend some time on the bench. RDM should try something new..put Luiz with Mikel or Ramires. Play Sturrdige more, give Marin some time
had2bg
@people complaining for rotation: Mata travelled from England to Panama and only got back on thursday, Oscar and Ramires went to the US and only got back on thursday. This trips destroy you mentally and physically because of the time differences and the long hours in the plane. You ever travelled at all? Most people need at least a week to get used to the jet lag. Also, considering that we have a CRUCIAL match against Juventus on TUESDAY it was a very good decision to rotate today imo. It was a no brainer. We asked for rotation last week and we got it, now we can't complain about it. I think defense lost us the game today, simple as that. They shot twice and scored twice, ridiculous.
Carloss86
Oi mates that was a good game to watch...shout out to the Lads, they did put up a fight to claw back into the game, shout out to our away support...Never stopped hearing the "Champions of Europe" song,Shout most especially to Steve Clarke and his West Brom team...They remind me of a Chelsea team under Mourinho, strong and efficient in front of goal.
nelyvanile
Also, people complaining about Mikel-Romeu combo, im not a big fan of that combination either but we weren't outplayed today in the midfield imo, WBA got three chances, they scored two. The first goal was a David Luiz mistake and the second was a good play for them and Luiz got late and Bertrand didn't mark well. Where was the Mikel-Romeu combo guilty for the goals today? They didn't even had much chances to begin with.
Carloss86
And it's not like we have Meireles, Essien or Lampard to put in there. It was either Mikel-Ramires or Mikel-Romeu, and Ramires had a long trip so it was the only decision. If we don't give Romeu some game time against WBA then when will he ever play?
Carloss86
RDM is to blame for our defensive frailities though we are starting to look like last season with AVB always look like conceding a goal when teams counter attack against us and we are unable to keep clean sheets
Anarchy
where's @Mq when you need him?
Blue in Colorado
Give Luiz the Fellaini/Yaya role. I'm now convinced he doesn't belong in the defense. He is not a DM neither. Coming from deep suits him. It's what's he tries to do every game.
foreign_viewer
a manager that does what RDM did with these past weeks with the players he had is certainly not a top manager... Maybe the problem are fans expectations. I sometimes hope we lose a few more games and get a better manager
keka
I seriously do not understand folks some times. You spend weeks and months complaining about rotation and when RDM gives it to you, you still complain. Oscar played in the early hours of Thursday morning against Columbia; someone up there just told you about Mata's travel schedule. Moses got his chance in this game. Sturridge played 90 minutes. So did Romeu. We have a Champions League qualification which is much more more important than today's game from a financial and on the pitch perspective at a difficult Juve stadium. I believe Conte is coming to sideline as well. The calls to play Marko Marin is mind bugling. Di Matteo said the kid is still not a 100% fit. That's why he is playing with the U21s to get fit. Anyone who watched Marko in the Bundesliga last year knows how fragile the guy is. Qualification out of the group stage is much more important than 3 points against West Brom. It at least buys RDM and us time till January to get in some decent striker(s). Sacking RDM doesn't solve anything. Pep Guardiola or Busquet can't solve the chances we were missing today or the lackadasical embarrassing performance from a top 10 football earner who just duped Abramovich as the worst scam in the history of football.
KAKUfrank
well i think CECH has being poor to his high standard in recent games, his not doing well at all and he need competition i think Courtois should be call back next season, no doubt both torres and sturridge are not good enough for us and have already cost us the tittle no doubt.. sturridge can still make defender watch their back although he kept missing the chances when he suppose to score and torres don't even make the run so both are problem but as at now i'll use sturridge till january we badly need a striker and CB but i feel Kalas or Bruma will do the job they r playing great at their loanee clubs and they can partner either Cahill or JT im tired of Luiz schoolboy error he can be move upfront to save us money on CDM...simple
bluebroda
I honestly believe we should promote bamford to our bench. The pure and simple reason for Marin not playing is because are now finding ourselves down in games and RDM starts panicking reverts to type, not actually realising that Marin may change a game. It's my only problem I have with him, he makes some of the weirdest subs at the weirdest times. Maybe a couple of boring defensive 1-0 wins in the next few games would do the trick nicely, after all its what RDM does best.

sojofjand
we need striker seriously, Torres has lost it, Sturridge just cannot finish a good chance, seriously, 4 games in EPL now without a win, looks like our bad moment 3 is coming, don't know what some player purpose on football pitch today, completely awful, Hazard having a bad game also, so as Luiz, our defense has became a complete joke, especially that left flank, seriously how many more goals can we concede
chelsea44
I wish that people blaming RDM for today's result would tell us what else could've he done to win this game... I think we're not playing badly but it's a mix of bad luck and bad defense putting inmense pressure on our forward players. Now more than ever i've come to realize that that quote that says "defence wins championships" is very true..
Carloss86
@Kaku...HahaHa...More like scammed mate...I totally understand your frustration with Nando and lots of fans as well,he just seems psychologically absent minded most times. Then again,we had a lack of understanding in attack, with the changes made, looked a lot better when Hazard moved to the left Wing,Moses to the Right and Sturridge playing behind Nando. It was always going to be a difficult game as long as we conceded first, yes we are not efficient in front of goal, but we are letting in stupid goals. Onwards and Upwards.
nelyvanile
Jet lag is not enough reason to play a combo that will make u lose. If u watch the game more closely u will realize the goals were a result of the inability of both holding midfielders to recover quick enough from advance positions... u will always see such goals as the defenders fault but the ball was not lobbed from the opposition's defense, it moved on the ground till it found its way into our box... RDM will learn, just that he is a slow learner, took him months to realize that right wing isn't Ramires's best position...
Latunvic
KAKUFRANK@ I couldnt agree with you more, you said it all perfectly, finally someone who knows something about football.

@sojofjand I already answered about that but I guess you didn't read it. Mourinho's situation is very different than RDM's because he doesn't have many players that made the intercontinental trip. As a matter of fact only Albiol started the game vs Panama so the comparison is lame.

torres - keeps cutting and trying to pass and not shoot. Sturridge - gets in positions but his finishing is really quite You play them both and when Torres needs to shoot he will pass it to sturridge who will be in a worse position but still shoot. Conversely if Sturridge needs to pass he shoots. And he misses. He was as wasteful against United, only when he ran through and cut the keeper did he finish. We are crying out for a finisher. And Ivanovic needs to start over luiz at least for a while since Luiz is just prone to concentration lapses. He has done well at times, but of late he has been off. And we are missing lampard. yes. we lack the transitional play from midfield to attack. Ramires can run the ball through but passes are not coming from the midfield. Romeu at least switches the play that helps in transition. And Mikel has got into some positions that Lampard would get into, and you know how lampard finishes.

YOU know. i have an idea. Lets play lampard as striker. or at least in attacking midfield, with Oscar behind him in the pivot. Has lampard played with the triumvirate? I doubt. His finishing is better than 90% of strikers. He will get on the end of chances more than torres and finish better than sturridge.

THE PROBLEMS - First of all our overall team defending is very poor. There is no sense of urgency to close down. Chelsea is playing very loose and it shows. Constantly getting pressure and beat out wide. I am starting to get concerned about Bertrand as his play has been far less than desirable. While Cesar has impressed me. While I am a David Luiz fan I think he needs to sit and watch a few games. While he has skill he mentally just doesn't show up ready to play. His weakness is his lack of mental preparation. Today I watched Mikel chasing the ball. Mikel should not be up the field as he lacks any type of offensive skill. WHich brings me to the Mikel/Romeo pivot...a terrible combination of two defensive midfielders that can't distribute the ball with speed of play. This is on RDM for selecting these two together. Chelsea needs a passing playmaking creative quarterback in the pivot. So either Mikel and a passer or Ramires and a passer. At this point a CM is needed or at least bring back Josh McEachran to try. Why Chelsea runs these same guys out there game after game without addressing the issues..I just can't understand. A lack of leadership is a big issue on this team as well as today someone needed to place their foot up the ass of a few Chelsea players. You just can't win games with no sense of urgency. Chelsea can sell Romeu as he will not fit in long term. He would be 3rd string to Mikel/Ramires and I would rather play Nate C. over Romeu. As far as Torres is concerned I am thru with him...Done. Sturridge played better in the central striker role but , again, couldn't finish. See ya Torres and Sturridge. Lets get a CF that can actually score. Chelsea can't win games only scoring 1 goal a game.
lamarochs
Mia you raise a really great point there, that's exactly what is happening, this striker conondrum and Luiz defense become boring seriously, every week..geez
chelsea44
We can moan at Torres, Luiz, Sturridge and even RDM. But in truth the blame lies at the top. It is Roman via his lacky Emenalo who insisted on mortgaging our goalscoring future to a single striker who had seen better days. Sounds familiar? Then we had a Drogba and free scoring Lampard to nullify Roman's attempts to turn Chelsea into Shevchenko and 10 others. Then opposition on and off the pitch to the plan kept the momentum going. Now we have nobody save JT, who has big problems of his own, who retains the authority to say this policy is leading us up s*** creek. RDM is doing the best he can without having any form of plan B. Today was a classic example. Everyone knew that at home against the big boys Albion play counter attack football. So tons of possession and plenty of missed half-chances fails against the opposition's shrewd use of space available because of an overbalance of squad players with a cavalier spirit. Unfortunately, this is exactly what Juve will do if they get a lead on Tuesday. And they are very good at it.

every top team hasa good striker and can score goals, look at Manu (Rooney, Hernandez, Van Persie), City(Aguero, Dzeko,Tevez) and all of them can score goals, while our team ( Torres - don't want to shoot and completely lost interest in matches, Sturridge - keeps shooting and missing target), at this position surely playing Studge ( give him more games-see how he performs) and Bamford now would be much more cynical idea

Even the Fox sports analysts here blamed the loss on di matteo. These so-called "fans" here have depleted their expectations to the extent that a loss to west bromide (home or away) is now acceptable. we r d **$#$** European champions and should be winning games like this! Forget that Torres is not scoring, but a good manager will be winning with this team BUT THE TEAM HAS NO IDENITY. It sometimes feels like Robbie assembled a group of world class players, put them in blue strips and ordered them to play together... I don't feel I am watching Chelsea DC anymore nowadays... we keep leaking goals and juventus away will be painful to watch now.
Blue in Colorado
@Mia Maynard, Swansea fans were excited by that idea with Michu who was scoring goals from midfield. He switched to CF and his performance in terms of goal scoring and chances weren't the same. He just got pushed by to his attacking midfield role and scores immediately. Scoring when you play off another striker is different from scoring when you play as a striker. Michu and Lamps are very similar when it comes to poaching those balls in midfield. As a striker, you have to make off the run and create space for yourself with 2 center backs breathing on you. But as an AM, you just have to move away from the DM while your CF occupies to 2 CBs. There is a reason players like Sturridge, Thomas Muller, Lampard and Michu have so many chances and score when playing alongside another CF than upfront alone. Not that Lampard has been tried there, but I am not confident at all it will work. Then Lamps lacks other things that a striker has.

I dont understand some of you people saying sturridge cant finish like he have been playing all this season you guys do know its the first game he started in the EPL this season. he created the chances look dangerous got unlucky twice by 2 great saves from the keeper. but you cant say his a bad finisher like its law. we need a striker true but we need good rotation. give credit when credit is due sturridge look good today and i have no doubt the more he play will score boat loads of goals for us. seriously people this aint fifa 13 what you expected from a player who`s trying to get into the grove of things.
Blue_yank
@Latunvic, Torres had to play for both Oscar and Mata to rest and for Marin to fully heal. RDM has said he will make changes to the starting XI to get some win and confidence back. That to me sounds like I am banishing Torres out of the starting lineup to save MY JOB. I also do not know who should have started for Ramires since his energy is needed against Juventus's energetic midfield and he played with Oscar in midweek. Lampard is injured. Merieles was sold and Essien is on loan. What did people think he should have done? Play Ramires today and then Tuesday again making it 270 minutes of football in 6 days?

@Carlos pls how many of our players made int flight? at least Real and Barca had 3 to 4 important players each with Spain that goes to Panam$a with Mata, please you're just making a rubbish excuse for the coach stupidity, I don't usually blame RDM but he got it all wrong cos we are not d only one involved in international matches and like us they have important Champions league in mid week too. You play your best players barring injuries, remember a certain Mourinho with us he plays his strongest team at all times even in the then carling cup. Why you guys are saying this sheit is because you got the rubbish rotation you a shouting about and we lost a game we could have comfortably won. Spare me pls.
sojofjand
I think our issues are the following. We are leaking goals and our defense (left) side is not quite good enough. When you pair a decent at best Bertrand with an unfocused Luiz, we just look very shaky on that side.
ddrogba
@Kaku, I don't see a problem with Ramires playing today and midweek, Mata, Lamp and many other players have done it before. Could have started Mikel-Ramires, and probably give Ramires a rest later in 2nd half with Oscar coming in. I wont argue much about Marin cos I don't know his present state, but I feel it is extremely silly to put him on bench when he can't play. Better to have Piazon or even Feruz, or anyone else who can play instead of wasting that slot on the bench. I think we could have started without Torres if the coach really wanted to.
Latunvic
Our midfield is usually ok, but we needed the energy and drive of Ramires. Having Romeu and Mikel together is not dynamic enough. Not that they were at fault, and they played relatively well, it is just not dynamic enough. Usually this is not a problem, and today we were just trying to rest Ramires.
ddrogba
The truth is FT9 is costing us every game he plays.RDM seems to be scared to even substitute him let alone keep him on bench but I bet,Sturridge would do better than what Torres is currently doing. But CFC hasn't been lucky when is comes to BIG MONEY STRIKERS.This puts fear in my mind when I read that there's a certain Columbian warming up to join us at SW6.If Falcao is coming, then Torres must GO!!!! Then recall Lukaku. But my opinion is this:Get a less expensive but effective striker like Demba BA and Jovetic and recall Lukaku, this implies we would have four strikers namely:Sturridge,Lukaku,Demba Ba & Jovetic.Out of these four, one of must must be firing from all cylinders and also gives us options instead of spending big on one striker who MAY end up being a flop looking at other expensive strikers we've had in the past. All the same,I expect nothing but a WIN from Juve & City to restore the confidence on RDM.NO CHELSEA NO FOOTBALL
DANNYGOLD
Torres was anonymous. He has been in the last several games. I don't blame Danny though, he's a bit rusty and needs to get into the rhythm. He had a few good runs and with a few more minutes he should be able to do better.

BLUEisTHAcolour
We need three players: a CF, a Right winger, and an agile and quick DM like the Fernandinho dude at shaktar.. If we cant play Oscar as deep lying midfielder then we need to get one. All these four players should be quality and reliable ones not signings like Marin, Moses and Torres.... Marin is good but injury prone and is therefore a waste, Moses not top quality for starting role, Torres, a waste...
Latunvic
Those guys still dreaming of us winning the BPL..wake up from your fairy tales..we are going to be battling for a top 4 position and if we dont do much better against Juve our chances of escaping the group stage of the champions league will be in serious jeopardy. The reasons are obvious and i detailed them in my two part article some time back on dark clouds gathering. As usual some VC members take the easy and lazy way out of blaming the coach without looking at the players on the pitch or the board who made questionable decisions that depleted our depth in critical places and left us without any quality to speak of in the striker position. If there is one fault i would lay at RDM and his teams feet in all of this it is only that he needs to get an assistant coach who excels in team defense coaching because that is clearly not RDMs forte and without JT to coordinate our defense on the pitch our defense has looked pitiful to be honest..that we will be facing a rampaging Juve again without JT in a few days time does not exactly fill me with confidence.

We are missing our Captain. We would have won against Liverpool and WBA with Terry, he makes our defence very solid and organized. We shouldn't have lost 4 points against Liverpool and Swansea, we would have been on 28points with City on top of the table.
SameX
Whenever Terry-Luiz play in central defence we are usually very solid, Terry brings the best out of Luiz and keeps him grounded and disciplined. Without Terry, Luiz is poor. We will miss Terry against City and Juve.

Azpi-Iva-Cahill-Cole is our best backline for now, Luiz and Ryan need to be benched and seriously spoken to, they are costing us points.

If Barca bring that 35m pounds offer again for Luiz, we should not hesitate, sell him, he will suit Barca's style of play. We can use the cash to get Hummels who to me is the best young CB on earth, he is young but experienced and very disciplined. He will cost about 35m quid. Iva, Terry, Hummels and Cahill will make a hell of CB options at RDM's disposal. Ryan has alot to learn from Cole, Cole must stay, we badly need him. Wallace will be deputy to the fantastic Azpi @RB.
SameX
We made a huge mistake letting Meriles go, he would have been a good backup for Ramires. He was great against NewCastle and would have suit out new style of game well and add a beastly presence to our midfield. Romeu-Meriles would have been perfect for a game like this to give Mikel-Rami enough rest for the Juve game.
SameX
I think Romeu was great, he can be an Alonso, his passing was on point and he made some interceptions. The problem is he cannot play with a player like Mikel, he needs someone Like Rami, Raul or Modric with plenty of forward movements to play with him. Mikel-Romeu combo was not as bad as some of you put it, infact, they did well today compared to the Swansea game but it is not a balanced combination. The board are to be blamed for letting Raul, Essien, KdB and Josh go without enough cover in midfield, an Injury to Mikel or Rami before January will hamper our season.

This is far from "bad moment", we were extremely poor during Carlo and Avb's bad moments, we could not even string 3 passes together, we were crap in the final third and could not score, we had zero creaticity. We are extremely dangerous now in attack, we are creating chances that other teams can only dream of, we dont just have a CF that can actually score goals. Had Danny been given the support and game time Torres have had since the begining of the season he would have been the Epl top scorer by now. We also need to bench Luiz and Ryan and play Azpi-Iva-Cahill-Cole, and things will turn around completely.
SameX
Why some people praising Romeu here at the expense of Mikel beats me, Mikel was by far the better player of the two today, moving forward at the same time rtracking back to defend, Romeu was just elementary still has a long learning to do to be saddled with the responsibility of holding the midfield. Seems guys just don't like Mikel here.
sojofjand
guys who are saying romeu was good .. . he cost us the second goal.. mikel was forward and romeu rushed to take the ball of an opp player who simply passed it to the player romeu was initially marking.. so we had 3 v 4 .. n then the goal.. that guy has simply forgotten how to play football
slash_blue
Whenever Torres starts, it seems we are not creating chances for him, but we play Danny @CF and we begin to create clear cut chances, that tells me something- Torres positioning is just too poor, Danny is always available and is always there for the ball, he kept getting into great goal scoring positions. This is why I am confident Falcao will shine here as his positional is even far better than Danny's, he holds the ball extremely well and he knows exactly how to score. Danny does not get the chance to play week in week out and it is affecting him, he is playing with alot of pressure and wants to show RDM he deserves to start, so he is becoming much more anxious @the face of goal. I say give him 4 matches and he will get back to him best.
SameX
SameX, Luiz will suit any team that scores 3 or 4 goals a game. Any team he plays for that only expects to score 1 or 2, he's a disaster. If Chelsea are to persist with Luiz they'll need to sign an absolutely lethal striker. From the moment Torres missed a great chance against Liverpool 2 minutes into his debut it was obvious he was going to be a disaster. I've always said Torres will destroy Chelsea as a championship winning team and that is exactly what hass happened. It is so frustrating to watch. Luiz and Torres need to be benched immediately.

onomzy23
We need to recall Josh in January and get a quality pivot beast as Mikel will be out for Afcon. Lamps may be going very soon anyway so we need depth in midfield. Someone mentioned Fernandinho, a guy i really like, he is a Ramires type of player with pace and energy but has better passing and tackling ability and he will not be as expensive as Fellaini..... Benat, Banega and Bender are also quality players that we can go for.
SameX
We need to beg Athletico Madrid to take Torres and still pay part of his wages so we can get Falcao for maybe 38m. I will like us to keep Danny but if he goes, we can get Ba for less than 6m to backup Falcao. Lewandrowski(18m) or Jovetic(22m) are other quality options in case we dont get Falcao.
SameX
City and United will still drop plenty points, even with their CF's they still fail to win, the good news is the board can now clearly see that we need 1 or 2 quality CF's, a pivot player and a CB, they will be foolish to sack RDM as they are @fault for letting useful players like Raul and DD go without quality replacements, they are even about to let a 30 year old Ashley Cole go. Lets see where we are by Febuary and If the board will do their job and help RDM with 2 or 3 quality players and let some players GO!!
SameX
This one is not RDM's fault. The blame lies squarely on the heads of the defenders and Danny. Defenders for poor positioning and Danny for missing 2 he shoulda had and for not passing twice when he had unmarked teammates inside of 10 yds.
rockhead
If we get good offers for Luiz, Lamps, Torres and some reserve players and get quality players like Hummels, Benat and Falcao to replace them we will definitely win the league and go far in the CL. If Danny refuses to sign a new contract sell him for 15m and bring in Ba to help Falcao. We need all the help we can get so we dont end up like Liverpool.
SameX
Honestly a quality striker is literally worth their weight in gold..as flawed as our team is Liverpool is way worse but that side is being sustained essentially and entirely by the excellence of El pistolero; Luiz Suarez. Similarly virtually single handedly RVP dragged Arsenal to 3rd last year. Sadly the opposite is also true..a poor striker if depended upon can well be the undoing of an otherwise decent team. Torres bad form constantly puts us under pressure and he has meanwhile kept danny from getting any game time all this time so he now rusty and also anxious to impress in the few opportunities he has. Despite that though he is clearly a major upgrade from torres and i hope we saw El Ninos last start for us in a very very long time. To norwich...thank you so very much for adding a little cheer to an otherwise really grey and unhappy saturday for us blues fans.

Dannygold - sorry disagree...about Lukaku...he needs to play. If you sign Demba Ba and Jovetic why would you want Lukaku rotting on the bench..the kid has massive upside and he needs to play. I would prefer a new world class #1 CF with Lukaku backing him up.

Sturridge shld start the next 5 games henceforth. He might have been a tad selfish today, but he had a better impact in the game as a CF than Porees have had in the last 5 games. On the positive side though, manu also lost so the week is not that bad.
Dwonder
RDM rides his luck and he's not very tactical either. what he does is just put players in the field and hope not to lose. this was away game and away games you should play to win. why bench Oscar and Ramy and play Luiz? did not they all played internationals? cheap excuse i will say. Ryan is not good defender and i don't think he has Chelsea future. since he started to replace Ashley all hell broke from the left side. by the way those who believe Sturridge should start must be talking about another player because the Sturridge i watch is a selfish, one footed and cant see what goes around him. Sturridge will be sold January mark my words! anyway the season is just starting and i hope Roman will pay a visit again and bitch slap RDM to put some senses into his head.
Drogged-Mo
For those defending Romeu and Mikel...please stop...these two are pedestrian at best...I just SCREAM at the TV when I see Mikel chasing the ball. There was no pressure on either Romeu or Mikel today. If there is pressure on Mikel/Ramires they just give it away time after time. Like I said...Romeu can be sold..don't see a future for him at Chelsea. Need a quick passer to play with Mikel or Ramires...If Josh McEachran could defend a little he would be a quick fix...Biggest need is a new #1 CF with the recall of Lukaku. Sturridge needs to start all remaining games until January. Torres needs to be sold or loaned out as he needs a fresh start.
lamarochs

I think people should check out Jovetic's injur record before saying we should sign him even though he is class. @Latunvic, did you see what Fernandinho did to Ramires against Shakthar home and away. We'll be playing Juventus with Marchisio and Vidal in midfield - 2 Fernandinho's in terms of energy rate and you want a tired Ramires to chase them and battle them the whole game!!!!! Who said we'll be winning by 2nd half for you to suggest we should be pull him in the 2nd half. West Brom haven't losty at home folks and were not cake walks. They only lost to Man City as a result of a miraculous Eden Dzeko last minute winner due to over committing players upfront and Joe Hart saving Lukaku's instinctive shots. Let's swallow the loss and move on. This issue of looking for someone to blame everyday is looking ridiculous. The only thing we should be worried about is how our offense can put the ball in the back of the net till January opens. Messi alone has outscored Sturridge, Torres, Mata, Oscar, Moses and Marin combined this season I think. That is a very very very big problem. Recalling Lukaku won't solve that issue either because he is not efficient in front of goal. He needs 5 chances to score as well.

THe Good - The team played really good today. It just unfortunate that we were so unlucky. This reminds of the game against Birmingham where we were shut out totatally. I am deeply convinced that Sturrdge should start ahead of Torres going forward else we will lose more games. Sturridge runs, positioning and the ability to take shots from tight angles would make him better with more games. THe BAD- Luiz should be sitting on the bench his just awful, We also need a left back .. Betrand is still not fully baked.Between ourdefence line isn't the same without Terry,no leadership whatsoever. The Ugly - TOrres! its a sad situation and I feel bad for him but Chelsea made a big mistake. A bigger mistake would be to continue to start him ahead of Sturridge. He didnt take a shot throughout the game..lol
TheIncrediblue
El Sharraawy is on fire, just 21, he has been the only bright side of a crashing Milan team, he is the seria A highest goal scorer with 11goals(i think). Why dont our scouts get players like this before they are known.
SameX
Btw the defensive midfield did good guys.. You forgot all the goals came from the wings.. Both guys shut out the midfield.
TheIncrediblue
fucxking imbeciles, don't you have any other thing to say except 'sack the coach' ??.Every single season we lose a match it's thesame people asking for the coach's head, dont you ever get tired of spilling thesame crap??Damn
alex6
' Robbies Dimatteo rides his luck..' really I know people can be fickle but that's just plain stupid. Thesame squad the WHOLE WORLD wrote off won the FA CUP AND THE CL under DiMatteo. Against Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Show some respect! Obviously we jsut need to change our striking options but to ask for a new coach after a few blips is just plain ridiculous! I used to come here when I could have real football conversations but this is the reason why I left, a bunch of spoiled ids can't take it when they lose and they 'revert to type'! Btw , i'm not tripping and I totally understand your point. If the only thing you can think about when we lose is to sack the coach then you deserve to be insulted.
alex6
Guys imagine how Bayern vs Chelsea would've been with Torres instead of DD.. Just saying, January can't come soon enough. The good thing about paying for Falcao's release clause is that we can get him on January 1st instead of January 31st..
Carloss86
How can Torres justify staying on with scores such as: Terry 1 Torres 0; Hazard 1 Torres 0, etc?
Blue Day
And before Terry 1 Torres 0 there was Moses 1 Torres 0.
Blue Day
Even Cech had a shot today, compared to Torres' zero. How about THAT? At least he's getting kicked out from the team from what RDM sounded like, works for me.
Carefree_1990
What a wicked day the 31st of January 2011 was! And yet at the time so many thought, myself included, that it could be a day that would forever change the face of this club, monumental statement of intent, blah blah blah! At least one of the two could've been a hit, but no, both had to bomb.
Carefree_1990
How about this, we switch to 4-3-3 till January, put Lampard back where he's always used to play and ask him to do what he does best? We don't have a lot of adroit finishers in the squad, but the old man is most certainly one. Then Mata again starts from the right and is handed a free role, popping up wherever he can cause most mayhem, a more conventional LW in Moses, Ramires or occasionally Oscar partnering the vice-captain in the center of the park with Mikel sitting deep. Sturridge staying up on the shoulder of the last CB. The one thing it'll accomplish beside tightening up a bit more defensively is that we'll get Lamps back in the game right where he's always been doing his thing from. Right now he's the best bet to get us goals, and if we can't use him as a striker, damn right that won't work, we can go back to the one formation that have always held us in good stead in the past.
Carefree_1990
Di Matteo said: 'This season we are playing a little bit different but we might have to go back (to a previous formation) to be able to win games, and make sure first and foremost we don't concede. 'Maybe it is the time where we might have to change a little bit in terms of our selection and the way we play." If he's considering a change of formation too, this might be just what he's thinking about as well.
Carefree_1990
This is not undoing what we've built up in the past months with three playing off the striker. Merely rain checking that. We can try win games riding our attack when we have strikers, veritable, go-to frontmen on the roster. Right now we call on the one man who's always got us goals, and fortunately enough still with the squad.
Carefree_1990
k.chelski: I agree with what you say - spot on - but Kalou? Or were you being sarcastic? I was pleased when the board or RDM finally got rid of players who weren't pulling their weight and Kalou was one of them. I was a Torres fan until this match but I don't really think it his fault - I just don't think his style of forward suits Chelsea's play and I am not making excuses for him. He should also try and cheer up a bit and not appear so niggly about everything. Although it is a serious situation for him and Chelsea he should lighten up a bit and not keep trying too hard but in the wrong way. Sturridge still doesn't crack it for me although he was an improvement on Torres this game. Yes we need strikers but for god's sake not players like Kalou (and Meireles and the others that were gotten rid of). I also think Mikel should be gotten rid of. Why Chelsea persist in keeping him I don't know - makes too many mistakes and wayward passes.
OldShedBoy
why is this lot so fickle
wnjavaid
Cmon lads this always happens to us in November
Drogdays
We should have kept Lukaku, Torres is useless.
Drog of War
i dont see the chelsea spirit now the players used to show before....now the players are playing just for the sake of playing....rdm dont have any tactics at all....he is acting like clueless...why you play torres when the whole world knows he has become a total sheeet....he is just waste of space and time....why play mikel romeu combo when you know that it wont works at all....last night they gave so much of space to morrison who was creating good oppurtunities for long.....we need a good dm...one who can boss the midfield on his own.....mikel is poor and for the last six years im just hearing he is improving...god only knows when will he improve....romeu needs more oppurtunities to improve.....we need to stengten our squad...when mata and oscar dont play we miss the certain zing to our play...we need to buy one or two midfielder....chelsea should go for isco and victor wamayo....one is a good play maker and other is an young good defensive midfieder....and for striker go for damio...young strong and has good scoring record...
shlok27
chelsea needs three more players to get into a pl cl winning squad at present we lack depth in our squad....and bring back kalaas from loan we needs to sort out our defense...its tooo bad leaking so much goal...i think kalas would do better job than luiz...people are saying josh should be given chance but you guys seriuosly think that chelsea would give opportunity to josh....i dont think they would give him that oopurtunity he deserves.... the guys has got a lot of talent and he is better than most of the young talents england have...but he wont get the oppurtunity which he deserved....
shlok27
VC members are so flicked that they just utter what ever comes in their mouth. i dont know how u can say RDM is tactically inept? he recognised that hazard is not effective in middle changed the position and he scored a goal. that tactical change worked. introduced oscar and mata to score a goal. if not for danny poor finishing we could have won the match. every one wants rotation and when we he does then blames RDM for not putting strong XI. our performance was not that bad some people are just exaggerating things here. why West brom won the match was because they were clinical. just like celtic won against barca or we won against barca. we need to be clinical in converting the chances other wise u will be punished with the result like this.
arun.superstar18
The reason behind our forwards problems is because we buy forwards who are far too mentally weak to adapt to the pressure of our club. Torres, Kezman, Crespo - all nice guys who couldn't handle the pressure of playing at Chelsea an in Torres' case his price tag Drogba, Anelka, Hasselbaink - All tough guys mentally who rose above the rest Shevchenko - Too old to adapt to our system and fast-paced league and had to deal with drogba at his prime
Drogdays
There was so much hype surrounding the Hazard, Mata and Oscar trio. But now I don't think many people are afraid of them anymore.

I am gutted we lost 3 points, but I think it's a bit too early to begin to call for the head of the coach. The team played okay, but poor finishing and lack of concentration cost us the game. I'm beginning to suggest we revert back to a counter attacking formation, I mean I cant stand the sight of us conceding goals comically. There's alot to still play for, and this team can only be better with time. You fickle-minded fans out there, if you cant be patient with the team, you can as well stop watching the them. Cheer up guys, I have a sneaky feeling we're gonna have a season yet again. #keepthefaith

Well said @arun.superstar18...just turn a blind eye to any comment u find irritating...I've learnt to do so overtime...Its embarrassing the things ppl say on here.
nelyvanile
Which Bender? There are two?
foreign_viewer
Again we're in a position where we have no tactical alternative. Equally our main strikers do all sorts of things except scoring goals. And, to be frank, it appears that neither will be doing that. The should be at the tip when we get the ball goal wards, but they aren't. We leak goals from individual marking failures. Welcome Falcao, Suarez, Bony!
1970Blue
The fact that we had been held to a draw earlier in the season by the rock bottom punching bag club QPR makes me feel that an extra 2 points had been lost unnecessarily.
Blue Day
@1970Blue...the last time I checked Falcao plays for Athletico Madrid,Suarez for Liverpool, and Bony plays for Vitesse...This spoilt kid in a store thing needs to stop. Yes we need a striker, but hey reality check...we can't get one in November remember...Direct ur energy in supporting ur own.
nelyvanile
nelyvanile, we should at least change tactics. It is no use for Torres to be looking for the ball in midfield. We must be more direct and start playing at the start of the game. We let in too may crosses and don't defend these carefully. I believe that we can play a lot better but we need to keep moving a lot more and giving ball holding players more alternatives. Take combined WBA and Chelsea squads and put the best eleven players out of it. How many WBA players do you get? I'm behind Chalesea 100%, but now I'm really angry. Mata should always start for me, even after internationals.
1970Blue
What layorh12 states above is very good, a good analysis. We need ruthless strikers like Jelovic of Everton and Chicharito. Torres's price tag hangs over his head and Sturridge thinks he's Falcao (i.e. he is big-headed) when he is too prone to mistakes and mis-hit shots. I don't ever recall such a miss as he made against Manure in the league cup when he fell over the ball - why is it that we have strikers (recently) like Kalou and Malouda and now somewhat Torres as well, who play like this? And Mikel in midfield - I have lost my patience for the past 2-3 years with him - also wayward and makes too many mistakes. Now I am sure other clubs also have their misfiring duds but we are talking about the European Champions! Surely we should have not these passengers hanging around drawing wages any longer? We eventually got rid of Kalou and Malouda (not quite gone) and Meireles. Bertand isn't quite up to the mark either although he might come good. Luiz should be benched but then we have injuries at CH.
OldShedBoy
Barca had Valdes, Busquet, Pedro, Xavi, Iniesta and Villa in the Spanish team not mentioning D.Alves for Brazil and even Messi went to play against Saudi, same goes with Real you know all this, we can't keep mentioning names, you're just making excuses the rotation you want messed us up admit and let's move forward. I asked a question last week that if we eventually rotate and we lost what will you guys say? Now you making excuses, all the matches we've played before yesterday except for the Shaktar match no team has outplayed us, we created chances which we don't convert yet we complain and not talk about bad luck, but now we lost cause we rotated to what all of you desire and we lost you now start making excuses. I wouldn't have said anything about this match, but I just have to because I don't like the way you guys has been complaining about the team in the past few weeks even when we draw and clearly we are the better team. Please lets learn to stop complaining about football out comes we have to accept that you win some you lose some and I belief none of us in here knows as much as RDM. No matter what anybody feels or say, I belief we are a good team all we need is just some few adjustments in certain areas and we will be as good as any best team out there. Guys no hard feelings its all in the spirit of supportership .
sojofjand
There were 2 clear-cut penalties not given for us yesterday - again! the hand ball from Bertrand's shot and the shove on Moses.
OldShedBoy
when it comes to buying striker we always act late...we had chance to buy augero suarez torres( before liverpool)...falcoa last season....at less prices but we never went for them we wait for them to score more goals for their respective club and then we try to buy them at outrageous price....we never learn from our mistake...
shlok27
Lampard is needed in our first team and just because he can finish. He is also the best tempo midfielder in our team and he does do some work defensively. The only fault that can be placed on RDM is that he started Romeu and Mikel, but frankly he doesnt have anyone else. We play City and Juventus and we played away at a team in form, the team who have impressed the most in the league. We lack depth, and that will cost us. A midfield recruit and a striker is necessary. Falcao would be the best signing possible. Neymar is flashy and will take time to find his feet in england.
Mia Maynard
I can understand the criticisms of luiz and his defending he is erratic but to say sell him is absolutely absurd.
Blue1989
@ Mia: exactly. Lampard is the only proven finisher we have with us still, and this is why I suggest we return to 4-3-3 till January, with him back in the side.
Carefree_1990
This is what happens when you take away the heart of the team( Terry. Lampard and drogba.
Lakupiippu
Carefree_1990 - say we return to 4-3-3...... so would you play Lampard ahead of Ramires or Oscar ??.......... there's a DM role in that formation and the one who plays there can't roam forward to score goals... so NO LAMPARD in DM......... and there are two CM roles in 4-3-3........ one of those CM roles belongs to Oscar.......... and the other one , I believe , is for Ramires....... we all know what Ramires can do at CM in a 4-3-3 formation....... remember last season under AVB ?.......... so will you choose Lampard , a slow, experienced leader, who poaches goals in that spot ??.......... or Ramires, a fast box-to-box player who can score many goals in counter attacks ?
The Persian
There is only about 2 people in all of VC, who believes we lost yesterday's game due to roatation, so it says it all and I won't even waste my valuable time trying to change ur rather "skewed" reasoning. As for me, RDM did almost everything right, rotated intelligently considering the international games and the upcoming fixtures, he made almost inch perfect substitutions, we lost due to individual errors in defense and our dull attacking players, coupled with the fact that westborm were very disciplined, we should stop looking for what is not lost, rdm shhould just plug that leaky defense, make the strikers take shooting pratices as it was in the days of carlo and we scored 103 goals. And we'll be good to sail.
Desmondadonis
Lol@Blueday,,,,Did I hear you say hype?? Did you see what Mata did to their defence when he came on? Did you see that crazy one touch pass from Oscar to Danny? Do you realize Hazard singlehandedly won us the Wigan, Newcastle, Reading games? Oscar is the the 2nd highest goal scorer in the UCL with 4 wicked goals? Have you forgotten what Mata-Hazard-Oscar did to Spurs and Arsenal? The trio made United midfield look crap and brought us back to the game until Clattenburg happened. Btw, this is Oscar and Hazard's first season in EPL, they are still very young and are already on fire for us, the trio just need to be rested more and play more games together, by March or Febuary if we can add a ruthless CF you will eat your words. I have watched enough of football to know quality when I see it, the quality that "Mazacar" possess is even underrated by the media.
SameX
After reading this, if u still believe we lost due to our roation, then u are on your own and on a very long thing www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/2983516/title/final-whistle-verdict-back-problems
Desmondadonis
I wont be surprised to see a midfield with Mikel-Romeu-Rami-Mata-Oscar on tuesday.
SameX
In simple terms there are 4 basic problems currently with Chelsea: 1) team defending - inability to quickly close down on the ball and play with urgency...2) lack of a passer/playmaker in the pivot who can quickly distribute the ball with both feet (Modric/Josh McEachran). Romeu can be sold as he will not be a long term Chelsea player. Mikel/Ramires can make a pass without giving the ball away. 3) Lack of a CF that is a difference maker and goal scorer. Sturridge will leave in January so a new #1 CF with a new backup is required. Need someone with confidence that will lead this team. #4) total lack of leadership on this team. Need a true leader. You can see why JT is so important to this team. Need someone that will place their foot up the ass of 1/2 of this team when required. RDM needs to hold players accountable which has not been done.
lamarochs
I'll definitely go for Lampard, as I already pointed out he's the last recognised finisher we're left with. I'd go with Lampard and Ramires in the center, leaving Oscar out, mind you, FOR NOW.
Carefree_1990
What did romeu do wrong in uyesterday's game that made u feel he is not chelsea's quality? He hardly placed a wrong pass, he made some intelligent pass to cesar for some of his runs, and he can only improve from there onward if managed properly
Desmondadonis
Hypocrites are plenty here at VC, If you say the coach did perfectly well in a game we lost because he did what you've been craving for and you complain when we drew or even won because he didn't do what you want? God help CFC, am out of here.
sojofjand
Romeu actually was pretty decent yesterday. If we weren't down 2-1, he even might have stayed on for the full 90.
Carefree_1990
things to be changed 1. Luiz should not be played in the Defense anymore. Iva to be played at CB. Luiz can play CM. 2. Dont play torres. Use sturridge even though he may leave in Jan or summer. 3. Keeping Playing Azipilicueta...he is looking very good. He effectively shuts down one flank...Bertrand to get more playing time to improve his confidence.
Blu_run
We lost the game due to tactical unawareness. I saw a little Mourinho in Steve Clerke and that was what happened. He taught his players to be aware of their opponents and chelsea expected them to play a passing game. They never actually used their mid and were decent in defense. We still realized that chelsea have no answer to a defensive opponents.

Some fans keep talking thrash in here and they should be enlightened or else they'll damage the image of the club with their mediocrity, I asked a simple question and the peeps crying and moaning in here can't even make one correction on the game, apart from the fact that robbie didn't start ur favourite mazacar (since u think they are superhumans in ur skewed perspective) what did rdm do wrong? When u tell us then we'll know u lot knows what u are talking about, but till then, will u do us a favour and shut the feck up? Please shut up!
