Right then, yesterday`s performance was somewhat disappointing, it confirmed that our defence is still...susceptible and that our striker crisis is a genuine one (I can hear the mournful cries for Drogba already).
But, there are positives. No, seriously, there are.
First off, Azpilicueta (Dave) impressed again today and is well on the road to staking a claim for first-team football, his cross for the first goal was brilliant and defensively he looked more than solid. Will this give Ivanovic a chance to finally get an extended spell in the centre? We shall see!
Secondly, once all three amigos came on, our attack looked vicious. Oscar gave a beautiful little pass through to Sturridge who should have scored and Mata was able to dink dangerous balls into the box time and time again and made a great through ball that again Sturridge should have tucked away.
Thirdly, Sturridge finally made it seem like Chelsea were playing with a striker. He made runs in and behind the West Brom defence on multiple occasions when he was finally allowed to go down the centre, providing our creative three with a positive outlet for their movement and passing. I admit he should have scored twice and that he is far too selfish, but he does have talent and could fulfill it at the Bridge if given the opportunity.
On a side note, and because I always have to make this point, again I was slightly disappointed in Mikel. As I have stated, he lacks the creative and technical ability of a Xabi Alonso and so slows the game down, hindering our attacks and, whilst decent defensively, is certainly no Makelele.
So on that note, Fellaini please (or a German) and another striker to at least provide competition, and then we really will see Chelsea fly.
