The Power of Positive Thinking

The Power of Positive Thinking

Right then, yesterday`s performance was somewhat disappointing, it confirmed that our defence is still...susceptible and that our striker crisis is a genuine one (I can hear the mournful cries for Drogba already).

But, there are positives. No, seriously, there are.

First off, Azpilicueta (Dave) impressed again today and is well on the road to staking a claim for first-team football, his cross for the first goal was brilliant and defensively he looked more than solid. Will this give Ivanovic a chance to finally get an extended spell in the centre? We shall see!

Secondly, once all three amigos came on, our attack looked vicious. Oscar gave a beautiful little pass through to Sturridge who should have scored and Mata was able to dink dangerous balls into the box time and time again and made a great through ball that again Sturridge should have tucked away.

Thirdly, Sturridge finally made it seem like Chelsea were playing with a striker. He made runs in and behind the West Brom defence on multiple occasions when he was finally allowed to go down the centre, providing our creative three with a positive outlet for their movement and passing. I admit he should have scored twice and that he is far too selfish, but he does have talent and could fulfill it at the Bridge if given the opportunity.

On a side note, and because I always have to make this point, again I was slightly disappointed in Mikel. As I have stated, he lacks the creative and technical ability of a Xabi Alonso and so slows the game down, hindering our attacks and, whilst decent defensively, is certainly no Makelele.

So on that note, Fellaini please (or a German) and another striker to at least provide competition, and then we really will see Chelsea fly.

Nice observations which i mostly agree with. I dont feel that Mikel should however be singled out for blame when his partner in the middle Romeu was even worse than he was defensively..We would not have this issue of Mikel having to play virtually every game for us is the decision makers had not done away with the other experienced options we had to play that role; namely Essien and Miereles..anyway , no point crying over split milk..what is done is done..we have to move on and find other solutions till January.

gabu you hit the nail on the head when you point the finger at the decision makers. gourlay and emenalo have a lot to answer for. our outward transfer policy in the summer left a lot to be desired and it's purely down to bad planning. this must be rectified in january, purely and simply.

Doesn't KDB have a recall option in his deal? Guess not...but buying another midfielder now would be arrant waste of money as he is doing absolutely brilliant in Germany. We might want to explore the possibility of a loan deal for the rest of the season.

We been conceding goals primarily from the wings because teams know we like to send our wing backs forward, so as a start RDM just needs to get our defrenders to defend first. That means he'll have to move Hazard to his 'natural' position ( as a winger) and play Moses on the other side (RW) so that we have width going forward. Mata & Oscar will keep causing havoc in the middle behind a very mobile and hungry Sturridge, whom I believe will score more goals as soon as he starts playing and getting used to the creative talent behind him

I pray RDM doesn't change our attacking talent because then I'm sure he won't be suitable for Chelsea or any big club

Yes @ Mq. Chelsea needs to start defending before attacking.

Not Chelsea KENDEM but the defenders must to that effectively and leave the attacking to the attackers unless where necessary. Our flanks are too exposed and this causes our CB's to err as they try to cover both positions

Yes. We are dangerouse on the ball and struggle off the ball and teams have learnt the same and will try to frustrate us off the ball for counter attacks.
