'If It's Football, It's Vital'

If I were Roberto…………

Chelsea have not had the best of weeks of late. At times is has seemed to me like the team wasn't really working to the best of their high capabilities....

We all know that we have a huge test ahead of us when we travel to Turin to play Juventus, this game could really make or break our season and may very well make or break Roberto Di Matteo's. It`s not unlike Chelsea to have difficulties throughout a season but this season after starting so brightly we have hit a really rough patch. I really do like RDM as a manager and I honestly do not think it is completely his fault however there a few things that I might do differently against WBA

1. We fielded what could definitely be called a 'weakened' team, I was surprised at some of the selections but also understanding that RDM was wary of making sure our players are not worn out come Juventus. However, I do believe that out of our Holy Trinity; Hazard should not have been the one to start. Hazard has not been at all poor but has not looked as great as he was at the beginning of the season and I`m pretty sure this may have something to with fatigue. Mata has been sensational all season and still looks very fresh and has been the most influential of the trinity by a fair way over the last few weeks. I would have started Mata, then again I'm no manager

2. I was really surprised when I saw Sturridge in the starting line up for the game but not disappointed with Studge the talent is clearly there however his decision making is poor (especially when it comes to involving team mates) I am not a fan of having him out wide right as his selfishness tends to break up attacks, and I do believe in certain games, with assistance he can lead the line. Now I don`t want to have the Torres debate but I personally love him but I can recognize he is not doing his role as a striker and his main problem is doesn't make threatening runs, drifts out wide and can be too much of a team player. In this game I would have had Torres out wide right and have Studge in the centre as this would have created more chances from

a) Torres being in a position where his creativity and team play is effective
b) Sturridge being allowed to make threatening runs in the centre
c) as a result of b Sturridge would be in higher percentage areas to shoot from thus enabling a better chance of scoring.

3. Bring Marin on. I am a big fan of Marko Marin so the bias may be there but it seems opposition teams know out game plan now and the way West Brom defended was very narrow and almost suffocated anything that tried getting through, what Marin adds is width (I know Moses does have that) but also a great ability to dribble in particularly tight situations and with Hazard looking scratchy at times I believe this Sub could have changed the game. The other thing that would have worked heavily in our favour is that Marin is a lot less known that Hazard or even Moses (Comparing him to those who he may have replaced) purely because of his lack of game time in England.

4. I am not sure whether RDM told his players to do this and they didn't listen or he totally missed it but one of Mikel or Romeu should have been sticking to Morrison like glue from the beginning, if he went to the toilet they should have gone with him and been right by his side! But he was always free! This is a serious issue as if Morrison (no disrespect to him, he`s a good player) can cut through our midfield and defence imagine what Pirlo could do?

These are just my opinions and I hope you like them, but I'm no manager just wanted to put them out there as nicely as I could :)

Cheers for reading!

Oh and on a slightly different note, do you think RDM will drop Torres for Juve?

I`ve just been reading that in his press conference he hinted he may drop him. I feel nervous about playing him in this match purely because he doesn`t make runs now, whereas Studge does. However if we want to dominate and keep possession, and be willing to score goals from midfield Torres does have the benefit of working hard and does make quite a few steals up the pitch resulting in dangerous counter attacks.

Anyways let me know what you think :)

Good ideas sir and well written article..our lack of depth has caught up with us at the worst possible time. Sadly before we have the chance to get reinforcements it will only get harder with the club world cup adding more woe to an already congested schedule for us..all we can do is hope and pray.

1.) Mata played in midweek while Hazard did not....So of the two, Hazard was fresher and not even Mata. 2.) Why will you play Torres on the right wing while Moses, Mata, Oscar and Hazard are in the squad? How can he justify that? 3.) Marko Marin should change his name to Marko Jesus. He is not even on the squad for the German national team. He is not even a starter for Chelsea, but the way his name is mentioned here, one would think he is Messi or CR7. How does Marko Marin convert the 2 chances Sturridge did not convert? How does Marko Marin get Torres to make runs behind opposition defense? How does Marko Marin teach David Luiz and Ryan Bertrand defensive positioning that has cost us the same type of goals against Shakthar, West Brom, Norwich, Manchester United etc....I agree his dribbling skills will allow us create chances, BUT LAST I CHECKED, Chance creations are not the team's problems, but SCORING THE CHANCES WE CREATE. 4.) No team plays well with two defensive midfielders like Mikel and Romeu be it in attack or defense. It is pretty bad all around. He will probably drop Torres.

if i was roberto.....hmmmmm then i would have played luiz in place of torres because luiz cant defend he likes to move forward so let him be the striker and let him moved forward as much as he can but wit the ball......if i was roberto i would have played torres in double pivot role with mikel or rami...torres doesnt like to shoot or score he likes to create for others so let he be a part of double pivot and let him create as much as he can.......if i was roberto i would have made marin wax statue and would have put him on the bench then the real marin sitting and wasting him time on bench....it would be same because he wont have used both of them at all....if i was roberto then i would have said to hell with the manager job and would have put terry jersey and would have been playing his role in the field and would have told him to do his job till he get recover...

Nice article man, I hope we get it right against juve, and to beat juve, we have to keep it tight at the back and be clinical in front of goal. We can win juve, I am so sure of that.

I think he'll drop Torres. I really hope Cole is fit for this cos the game might prove too big for Bertrand. One of Oscar or Hazard will make way for a more defence-minded player probably Bertrand, and I hope its not Oscar. And Luiz needs to sort himself out and work on his concentration its a game we cant afford to lose.

Torres and Sturridge, same ****, different *********.

If i were roberto,i would simply drop torres and try out danny

saying sturridge is the same as torres is stupid , sturridge runs with confidence as his fuel that never finishes , sturridge needs to improve his finishing , sturridge is really quick , torres isnt , sturridge makes runs , torres doesnt , sturridge shoots , torres doesnt , sturridge gets into postions torres doesnt , i love torres but sturridge is better , sturridge plays with determination , torres just jogs , sturridge will score against juve if he starts , I'M TELLING YOU , HE WILL NOT USE THIS MASSIVE OPURTUNITY TO FAIL , HE WILL IMPRESS , sturridge wants his place in hte first 11 , tomorrow is his test , fingers crossed he starts
CFCTalal
I admire sturridge as much as I do(at times) torres , rdm should be smart and try out a 4-3-3 ( what do i know Im not a genius nor do i know jack about coaching) , Change ups can helpor destroy it , if 4-3-3 doesnt work in the first half , 4-1-4-1 , or 4-2-3-1
CFCTalal
I agree with your comments about Hazard looking tired. I have noticed this the past few games. I also agree about Sturridge playing wide. I don't like it for the reasons you stated. Regardless, I believe Torres is done and RDM will make a mistake playing him. If RDM starts Torres and Torres sucks...well then RDM just put a rope around his own neck..

Hazard is a winger that relies on pace and dribbling while running, so playing him akin to a playmaker makes him less effective. If we played out and out wingers (Moses at RW, Hazard at LW) we'd have enough width negating the need for our full backs bombing forward and leaving their flanks exposed (most of the goals we've conceded have come primarily from crosses off the flanks)...
@Mq
4-1-4-1 against Juve will ensure we are suited for a quick counter attack from the flanks (Moses & Hazard) while Sturridge' movement will no doubt cause Juve some headaches, add Mata & Oscar playing behind him and we are well-suited to cause them problems. With our back 4 not going forward and Ramires in the pivot man-marking Vidal we have enough defensive cover for their "sit back and counter" threat
@Mq
The sit back and counter tactics are ruining chelsea and RDM should have a remedy for that. We need to press for the ball when we are out of possession then
Kendemsblue
If I were Roberto I would wear all the medals I had won for CFC both as a coach and a player around my neck and go to @Mq's house and ask..."Can you do this?"

hhaha i think mq is on to something but I don't really know a 4-3-3 would be good (in my opinion) just 3hrs30mins more guys !

If all the tactics are not working for the manager, then he needs to come and tell us that the job is too big for him
