It is a wild world out there, not just in our day to day life but in the football planet.
"RDM has left the building" and was replaced with a very unpopular character. The media bandwagon about the impossibility to manage CFC is going around like it has been every year at this time of the season (dip in form, bad moment, etc. I`m sure you have your own name for it)
I`m sad for RDM dismissal but unlike many other Chelsea fans I saw this coming long ago. By saying this I`m not implying that RDM wasn`t good enough to guide us for the long run. What I really think is that he was unlucky.
His success gave him the job, everyone from fans to media everybody wanted to reward the man for his achievement, but Roman is a person who knows what he wants, he`s always wanted a football team that is recognized by a beautiful style of playing and although we won the champions league the way we got it wasn`t the prettiest and people tend to associated that win, more with luck than quality.
As the business man he is, luck should not be the biggest factor in the club success. For all the good things RDM has, he is still inexperienced and managing a team as temporal replacement with players highly motivated due to the fact they were reaching the end of their carriers, is completely different to managing a team created almost from scratch. As I see it, the permanent job came a bit too early for RDM but still he showed that he can become a great manager in the future, but for CFC the future is now and the owner saw the pattern (November dip) and had to act.
Some might call it rash but, when is a good time to sack your manager?
The warning signals were all there, not just the results but the disjointed performances, we were riding our luck every game waiting for any of Mata, Hazard or Oscar to save the day. How long should he wait? Too long is too late. You can`t keep someone in the job only based in his past or his status as a legend. (ask Liverpool fans what "legend" King Kenny did for them last season)
So, Roman made his move sooner rather than later and that brings us to Benitez. But why?
There should be a plan behind all this.
There is a plan indeed. It is always unpopular to sack a club legend and his successor will have to deal with the hate of the fans even if your name is Guardiola or Mourinho. Imagine things don`t go your way? Even worst, the club will be killing 2 options.
That explains Benitez as the choice; he is not that bad a manager and can get the team to top 4 and maybe win a cup (club world cup). The fans are going to hate anyone anyway because of RDM, if things go ok for Benitez they might change their opinions, if things go bad he will leave anyway at the end of the season and a big name replacement (Pep or Mourinho) will come and everyone will be happy again.
I see many people are angry about what happened but we all need to get together and support our club, for those angry at Roman please go back and see what he has done for our club, I believe he always has the good of Chelsea as a priority. He won us that Champions League by investing in players over the years and by appointing RDM to replace AVB. So please refrain yourselves of taking a pot at the guy. For those asking for stability please contact Arsene Wenger.
One last thing, the CFC should improve in the way they dispose with managers, doing it in corridors or at 3:00 in the morning doesn`t show respect to those who have served the club and get the media frenzy going.
