Corinthians v Chelsea Preview

Corinthians v Chelsea Preview

And so here we are, the pinnacle of club football is waiting to be climbed.

Can we become Club Champions of the World as well as being the current Champions of Europe? Well we`re about to find out as we get set to take on the Brazilian side, Corinthians, in Japan.

It`s looking very much as if we`ll be the away side, with some 20,000 Brazilians inside the stadium, but wasn`t if just like that over in Munich?

Having inherited the job from Roberto Di Matteo, Rafa Benitez stands on the brink of another World Club Cup triumph, having already claimed the trophy with Inter Milan.

If Rafa is to mastermind a Chelsea victory then he`ll be hoping that the considerable talents possessed by Juan Mata will play their part. The Spaniard has been superb this season and it was his goal, against Monterrey, that opened the floodgates for our semi-final victory.

Ahead of the clash in Yokohmo, Juan had this to say about the Monterrey game, the forthcoming fixture against Corinthians and the kind of football Benitez wants the side to play, remarking t the media,

"We`re trying to come back to where we were a couple of months ago, to play in a good way."

"The best way to win is with the ball and that is what we are looking to do now. We showed that against Monterrey."

"There was an intensity and confidence about our game. We knew that we had to start really well if we wanted to win. After we got the first goal we were able to play with more confidence and in the second half we started even better. Now we must look to improve again."

"That was the sort of football the manager has told us he wants to see, wants us to play. But we haven`t completed the job."

"Having come out here, so far, we are only halfway. We came out here to win this tournament and we want to be World Club Champions."

"Against Corinthians the main point will be whether we can keep the ball or not. We know they are a team who like to play with the ball - a typical Brazilian team. But we have players as well who want to play that way."

"We want to have the ball, to make passes, create chances and assists. It`s going to be tough. Hopefully we can win."

Hopefully we can and with the game starting at 10:30am UK time, this Sunday morning, we`ll soon find out if Rafa the Gaffer will get his hands on a first trophy with Chelsea.

Come on you boys in blue!

Hopefully we can claim our first trophy of the season tomorrow with the hope of more to come.
15/12/2012 11:46:00
i know i like FL8 but i think he should start on bench on this and put him when things are not going and hopefully he will lift the trophy
15/12/2012 11:54:00
I'll be glad if we win, It will give us bragging rights as the best club in the world, a feat achieved by man utd, barca and inter milan, we'll become the first london club to win it too, I am sure benitez will change tommorow's game plan and suprise the brazillians, one thing I'll pray for is that his tactics should work, if we win convincingly as we did against monterrey, then I assure u guys that it will give us a much needed momentum to go into the leeds game, which I think we'll win if we beat leeds, so we have a chance to start winning some shining silverware as soon as sunday which will be a huge boost and will certainly ease the tension between rafa and the fans! Go blues, do us proud
15/12/2012 11:59:00
There is no need to go all the way to japan, play the best 11 for 2 games and fail in the optimistic we will win the cup and bring roman 5million US$ xmas voucher.
15/12/2012 12:12:00
I'm surprised people over here are not blaming Rafa for the potential exit of Cole and Lamps. Lol. Go Chelsea, Go Rafa! Bring the CWC home! After tomorrow, sadly, football won't have anything else to offer us in the form of trophies. ;)
15/12/2012 18:44:00
Europa league! @Fernando.9. Torres
15/12/2012 20:01:00
CWC , League Cup , FA Cup , EuropaLeague , and iwe get FAlcao , maybe , maybe with a bit of luck for us , the PL. Not forgetting if we win Europa League , w can play this seasons winner f Champions League and whoop their ass in next years Super Cup with Falcao providing a hatrick of winning goals..sounds familiar lo
15/12/2012 20:07:00
Ohans - Chelsea have won UEFA cup before, and eventually we went on to win the European super cup. The current Europa league is the same UEFA cup, just renamed.
15/12/2012 21:18:00
We (including me)...are begining to get soft on we all love the good old game!!
15/12/2012 22:28:00
soft on Rafa??? just like any other manager , lets judge him by his results.... end of ...does it have to be personal ? cant we as Chelsea fans rise above this pettiness?
16/12/2012 00:25:00
No Blue_Mel we cant...its about principle. That would be like saying lets forget our history all together!
16/12/2012 00:32:00
so lets hear the Boos for Rafa then regardless of how it affects the team..dosnt matter that we lose the Cup..get kicked out of every competition ..just as long as some childish kindergarten kids can have their 2 mins of fame putting in a dig at Romans choice of manager...Lets go for it....Just as soon as you do...I will have nothing more to do with you....As far Im concerned you are not Chelsea fans , but boo-boys ...
16/12/2012 01:25:00
So can we say that we are six hours away from being World Champions with confidence?I am not optimistic though. All Barca fans have turned into Corinthians' fans today. They are wishing so badly we lose.Hopefully we can have the tag of World Champion for the next one year.
16/12/2012 06:39:00
OMG! We were defeated in my dream last. That must be a direct opposite. Good Lord grant us victory.
16/12/2012 06:41:00
I derive confidence in knowing that the team does not underrate Corinthians. The boys actually think it will be a tough one. We just cant afford to let yet another cup pass us by. Maximum concentration is need and good a thing, the bulk of the team has played in more tensed, hostile, electrifying and demanding atmosphere. World Champions! I like the sound of that.
16/12/2012 07:11:00
This is a 'once in a lifetime' event. Good luck Chelsea.

16/12/2012 09:29:00
