The Sideshow Bob Poll Result!

The Sideshow Bob Poll Result!

Against Monterrey, David Luiz was given a start in a position many feel he could be ideally suited for.

Luiz was given the chance, by Rafa Benitez, to play in a defensive midfielder position alongside John Obi Mikel.

Observations about his resulting performance were split, several thought he was outstanding whilst some thought his ball retention and passing wasn`t quite up to scratch.

Following the victory, over Monterrey, we posed the question about where you believed Luiz was best suited to play.

The results were as follows:-

- Mr Versatile - 52%
- Defensive midfielder - 45%
- Centre back - 3%

The results were interesting to say the least.

However, we believe that, come Sunday, for the Club World Cup Final, Luiz will be restored to the heart of the defence.

But, against Monterrey, what did John Obi Mikel think about lining up alongside Luiz? Well this is what he`d had to say to the media,

"It was a bit of a shock to see him lining up there."

"I said to him, 'Where shall I play?` He said 'I will play the holding role and you go forwards`. I said, 'Yes okay` but when the game started I looked up and he was up their end of the pitch."

That sounds like the 'Sideshow Bob` we all know!

I'm happy with a Luiz-Ramires pivot, it offers us a better passing range unlike our usual pivot.

He has not got the discipline to play as a DM.

Sounds like Mikel is nervous about losing his place to Luiz...

Mikels comment is exactly the issue. David Luiz as a DM against top quality opposition is a major gamble because the guy is so adventurous and can be caught in no mans land. If he is to play in the midfield just make him the CM because he simply does not have the discipline to play the holding role safely.

Mikel actually noticed correctly cos when the game started, luiz was the one sitting back, but found himself uncontrollably bumping foward as the game progressed which got me confused for a while as to who was the more defensive of them two. I actually thought Luiz was fantastic in midfield albeit indiscipline to his role, and will want him to be played there often and well instructed too, could do with those thrilling moves of his.

Feck the results of the poll. David Luis is a Centre Back and will be deployed accordingly. Every manager including Rafa has and will use him there. Yeah he makes an excellent makeshift box to box midfielder the operative word being MAKESHIFT... Ok guys makeshift. David Luis will always be a Centre Back and will improve with time and be one of the best on the friggin planet!

@calculated,stop the diss, mikel aint afraid of anything,he is only statin the obvious truth and everyone of us that saw the game would attest to it,david did ok in midfield but he kept bombin forward and he left an openin in the centre when we are on the backfoot..i understand he is a makeshift and would get better with more games there

Ramires and passing range go just about as well together as Arsenal and trophies.

@ForeverChels Ramires is a great player but you're right, his passing is not his strong point. Problem is that Torres is so unable to adapt his game that we are having to change the whole team to suit him - and that means having a CM who can pass. I wish we would sell Torres and buy a CF (Falcao!), and we ask what the striker does for the team; not how we have to change the team to suit the striker! And on David Luiz ... IMO he is quite a good CB and quite a good CM. He has problems in both positions. I prefer players who are very good in their position, compared with players who are quite good in more than one position...

Couldn't agree with you more saemus. Implementing that at the youth level is what separates serious footballing countries from non-ones. Being a master at one position is FAR more valuable than being a jack of all trades although being a utility player has its perks in terms of team contribution and flexibility.

U know what, what is interesting about our midfield is no one from our recognise CM has a complete ability.Mikel can hold and pass but can't bring the ball forward,Ramires can bring the ball forward but can't pass,Lampard can pass but can't hold and bring the ball forward.but in David Luiz u can hold the ball, bring the ball forward and make a pass.and his shooting is just above Lampard.what he lack of now is defensive discipline.but he is a CB anyway!once he learn CM discipline,he will be better than any other recognise CMs in our team.honestly Mikel did sound worried about his place in the 1st team squad.since Rafa's arrival,he already found himself behind Romeu.now Luiz will put him further down the pecking order...
