Against Monterrey, David Luiz was given a start in a position many feel he could be ideally suited for.
Luiz was given the chance, by Rafa Benitez, to play in a defensive midfielder position alongside John Obi Mikel.
Observations about his resulting performance were split, several thought he was outstanding whilst some thought his ball retention and passing wasn`t quite up to scratch.
Following the victory, over Monterrey, we posed the question about where you believed Luiz was best suited to play.
The results were as follows:-
- Mr Versatile - 52%
- Defensive midfielder - 45%
- Centre back - 3%
The results were interesting to say the least.
However, we believe that, come Sunday, for the Club World Cup Final, Luiz will be restored to the heart of the defence.
But, against Monterrey, what did John Obi Mikel think about lining up alongside Luiz? Well this is what he`d had to say to the media,
"It was a bit of a shock to see him lining up there."
"I said to him, 'Where shall I play?` He said 'I will play the holding role and you go forwards`. I said, 'Yes okay` but when the game started I looked up and he was up their end of the pitch."
That sounds like the 'Sideshow Bob` we all know!
