Benitez Bemoans Corinthians Commitment!

After the defeat, in Yokohoma City, against Corinthians in the FIFA World Club Cup, Rafa Benitez now has the unenviable task of lifting the sides` spirits for the vital Capital One Cup clash with Leeds on Wednesday evening.

But, following the narrow defeat, Rafa had a few words to say about the loss, commenting to the media hacks,

"They were very physical from the first minute, every challenge and second ball."

"It was harder once they scored; they were keeping the ball and passing it."

"But we had four very clear chances and the goalkeeper was man of the match, and to me that means a lot."

I think what Rafa is trying to tell us is that Corinthians wanted it more and if you don`t take your chances then you don`t deserve to take anything from the game!

Here's my questions: 1) Why did you feel it was necessary to change up a winning lineup and include a player where this would be his first start after several weeks? 2) Why did you wait so long on your subs? 3) Why wasn't our team closing down the ball WHEN they had possession which would create turnovers which we could have capitalized on w/ Rammy's/Hazard & Mose's speed? 4) Do you take FULL responsibility for this loss? 5) Why is Cech booting it upfield when it is clear Mata & Hazard need a booster seat to eat at team dinners? 6) Finally, seems peculiar to leave Oscar out of the starting lineup, any reason why?

Rafa Benitez just blew away a golden opportunity to win the heart of some sections of Chelsea fans who don't like him.As for me,the EPL should be our priority,forget the Capital one cup and the Europa league.Let our youngsters participate in these two tournaments,while the major focus should be on the EPL,it's still very possible to catch up with the two Manchester teams.As for me,Tubby didn't get his team selcetion right in d CWC finals.

Rafa i would say just didn't give himself enough flexibility with the team he set out yesterday! but to me i tought he still had options but refused to use it. i tought lampard justified his inclusion in the team until corinthians started pressing us hard and it was at this point i was shouting where i was watching the match that 'where was the balance in the team'. when corinthians started pressing us we were disorganised, giving away the ball and just couldn't regain it back quickly hence balance was needed. i was expecting changes like azpi coming in for moses, then luiz moved into midfield, mata wasn't in the game could have been substituted for Mikel then maybe oscar for hazard as it was clear benitez has no interest removing lamps from the setup. i belive if this subs were made , balance would have been restored into the game and we wouldn't have conceded and maybe we would not score too but will see out the game into penalties. this is why i blame benitez for the defeat because he didn't sort for balance in the game. am not coach and i dont intend to be but benitez has been clamouring about balance for weeks but was dissapointed he didn't sort for it against corinthians

"Mata & Hazard need a booster seat to eat at team dinners" @ForeverChels..thanks for that mate..it had me in stitches with laughter for a few minutes..what a way with words!!!

That was funny truelly, rafa is just clutching at straws, he knew his tactics and selections backfired and he is just trying to spread the blame on the team, instead of sharing from it, I think the man needs to find out the teams best strength and weaknesses come january, and talk it out with emenalo and let's see what the chief scout will come up with in terms of personnel
Desmondadonis
Does that mean we stand no chance against a physical side??..mr rafa u have to stop tweaklin with a winning team,and blame this defeat on your beloved son torres who had 2-3 clear-cut chances out of the 4 but he missed them all(am stil ruein that last gap sitter)

;-).. re: the interview, nely nailed it, agree with most everything else!
ForeverChels
If Torr-Mented1 had taken that chance (or Cahill) is it fair to say we'd be talking a different story right now (about his "tactical ability")?? *just saying :)
@Mq
Just a question lads (no direct implications) but where do we draw the line to distinguish between a Managers failures and the players failures?? If we create the chances and the players don't score, who gets the blame?? If we don't create chances (obviously don't score) who gets the blame?? *just asking ;)
@Mq
@mq, there are times players are to blame and there are times when its the coach while there are also time when its both party that have got to receive the blame like against corinthians. the benitez setup to me actually worked out until corinthians got hold of the game and we were unable to cope with the pressure, were giving the balls away and couldn't regain it back quickly enough. Hence we lost balance. it is therefore the coach's job to find the balance but benny didn't in this match while it was also the players fault to have fluffed so many chances (torres the most culprit)
