Courtois Courted by Barcelona

Courtois Courted by Barcelona

Rumours, emanating in the tabloid press, infer that our talented young keeper, Thibaut Courtois, is a wanted man.

The keeper, currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, is wanted by the Catalan giants - Barcelona.

The reports indicate that Barcelona have made initial overtures about signing the 20 year-old but have not, as yet, made any official approach to Chelsea.

With the goalkeeping depth, in our squad, continually questioned, surely we wouldn`t sell him would we?

If that is true, I wouldn't be surprised if his head is turned. Cech is still young by goalkeeper standards, and is head and shoulders above Valdes in ability. Courtois stands a better chance of walking straight into the Barca team (how often does that happen) than into Chelsea's. He may prefer staying in the league he is in right now than coming to Chelsea and at best, sitting on the bench for the better part of a season. Hoping this isn't true. He seems to be the perfect successor to Cech. We cannot afford to lose him to those Catalans.

if he is smart then he will go to barcelona or if he wanna waste his career by sitting on bench then he will stay here....
17/12/2012 17:36:00
i would prefer he stay where he is if cech wont move on .. I DONT WANT COURTOIS SOLD TO BARCELONA ..NOT NOW NOT EVER

Well this bluejay fan is speaking some sense, my quota in here on this issue is that we should bring him to the bridge next summer and make him push petr for that starting shirt, let the best keeper keep for us, it suprises me how sir alex rotates his keepers and still keep them happy, making them breath on eachother's neck, we are chelsea and we should have two formidable teams capable of destroying any team, recall all the damn loanees, pick the best of the lot and add willian to the team, sell of the weak ones, I am sick of cfc waiting for mediocre players to develop, let the players be on eachother's throat and be highly competitive

desmond your talking sernse... totally agree
17/12/2012 19:17:00
Even AVB knows when to bring on Brad or Hugo on certain occassions.Having a Cech keep for us in all competitions every season isn't the best.Courtois is good no doubt,He may not get the full opportunities He is getting @ Madrid but selling him to Barca shouldn't be an option. Let him come back at the end of the season and make Cech sweat for a starting Shirt.

Desmond just summarized what i have been begging for since the first season of Carlo..the immense strength in squad depth..let the players compete for a shirt each and every time..that way complacency earns you a place on the bench. This new way that is the construct of our Board and Roman whereby some players are essentially guaranteed starts irrespective of form or passion is part of the problems we have at chelsea right now and this need for competition needs to extend even to our Goal keepers..right now it is Cech or nothing for us..recall Thibaut before those greedy Catalans steal him!!!

i have been saying time and again that we need 2 capable starting 11s, which will needs to offer us a plan b whenever required. We play almost 60 matches every season and that is a lot of games to keep everyone happy. It is better to keep good backups like courtois rather than having useless players like hilarious and turnbill.

According to what I've read, next season, he'll be loaned to a team in the premier league so that he can adapt to PL style. He will join us in 2014 most probably.
18/12/2012 04:18:00
The only goalies in cfc that should be sold is hilario and turnbull,if barca needs them then i have no objection but if its courtois i say a big NO,we need him to compete with cech (except if cech dont like competition like our unpopular
18/12/2012 05:20:00
I don't even want to think about it. Would really really suck.
18/12/2012 05:35:00
Selling is not an option but what if he decides otherwise knowing is market worth and coming bck home playing 2nd best will not be the way forward on his quest. Im not so sure when his contract runs out but will be willing to extend his contract bcos we are begining to loose our attraction. So, our worries should be how 2unite SB and get the team firing from all cylindas and if eventually he jogs elsewhere the best will find their way 2SB like Fabrigas did.

I wouldnt sell him for any money!!! i would sleepon it if it were straight swapfor messi lol but otherwise he is certainly 2 seasons away to being greater than cech!! Here's a thought, sell cech to barca !!!
18/12/2012 09:02:00
His to good to sell especially to barca who refuse to sell us their best talent! if they want him we should insist on a 1 billion pound deal or better yet still pay them 20 million+Courtois for messi (if they really want him! they shouldn't complain cause that's how they negotiate for their players) either that or they can scram and find their own keeper from their lousy academy or something.

if they want him that badly, we will give him to them for thaigo and tello. we can survive with Cech only for some time and we can always get a good goalkeeper at a moment's notice. Butland, Julio Ceasar, etc.
18/12/2012 10:13:00
If a straight swap for Messi was offered, if I was Roman, I'd not only buy his ticket, I'd buy the plane, airport, city, country, continent.. you see where I'm going with this. Ok maybe not the continent, that 'might' be a little excessive xD
18/12/2012 16:26:00
Nah, asking for the little wizard will be too much, just ask for pedro and perhaps jonathan dos santos and we'll add about 5m and we are good, there are many good goal keepers out there that can do a decent job at goal keeping
