'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Leeds 1 Chelsea 5 (Capital One Cup)

Up in deepest Yorkshire Chelsea eased through to the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup.

In a hostile atmosphere and very inclement weather, a five goal second half burst sent the natives` home with their tails between their legs.

After the long hike back from the Land of the Rising Sun, Rafa Benitiz, thanks to suspensions and injuries, wasn`t able to make the wholesale changes he`d have liked to have done, instead seven were forced to start this tie after the grueling trip.

Chelsea started the first half well, Leeds were enthusiastic but unable to create any clear-cut chances. Chelsea`s football was neat but, to be honest, a little sluggish and we too were unable to test Ashdown in the Leeds goal, save for a few long-range shots that were easily dealt with.

Matters changed though, in the thirty-seventh minute, when David Luiz ventured forward and his pass was cut out by the home side. In a flash Byram fed the ball to Thomas and with no cover on our right flank the ball was fed across into the box where Becchio wa son hand to sweep the ball past Cech.

Elland Road erupted in a wall of noise and you feared that Chelsea might crumble and slip to defeat. In fact, before half-time, Leeds had another glorious chance to double their lead but, thankfully for Chelsea, Lees headed over.

Chelsea, having discussed matters at half time, came out with a different outlook in the second half. Driven on by Lampard, the captain for the night, there seemed more purpose about their play and were soon level when a low shot form Mata, squirmed past Ashdown in the Leeds goal.

From that moment Chelsea never looked back. Surging forward and utilizing their neat, short passing game, they forced Leeds onto the back-foot and with sixty-four minutes on the clock went ahead when Ivanovic escaped his marker to head home a Lampard corner.

Two minutes later the game was effectively over when Moses made it 3-1, driving in a low shot, from twenty-five yards, after a precise ball from Mata. Although Leeds huffed and puffed, it always looked as if we`d be the team to score the next goal and another two goal burst, in three minutes, gave the tie that flattering score-line.

The first of the brace, coming in the eighty-first minute, saw David Luiz play the pass of the night, splitting the home defence with a thirty-five yard ball that fell straight to the feet of Hazard. The young Belgian strode forward and despite being under pressure from a defender, eased his shot past Ashdown, in the Leeds goal.

With the home supporters drifting away in their thousands and the travelling support in jubilant voice, there was time for a fifth when Torres netted after Ashdown had saved Lampard`s initial shot.

Game, set and match to Chelsea, now what was that about a possible upset the press were harping on about?

It was an impressive game from us in a long time. We should keep the momentum going into the next fixture against Villa and who knows; it could turn out to be a good season anyway. Lamps played well after having a shaky first 25 minutes and i think it's a plus to the team. There's still alot of room for improvement though.
oscar was super-fantastic. The young Brazillian showed how versatile he was playing in an unfamiliar deeper role. Just praying we make it quick to january. I don't see us winning any trophy with Torres as our lead striker.
Tough draw for british clubs in c.l.celtic vs juve, man u v real and arsenal v b.munich, ouch!!
Torres is consistent. He gets worse with each game/coach/pass/fluff/fumble /tumble/bumble. I've been racking my memory for a worse blue C/F ~ Paul Furlong perhaps, maybe Tommy Langley (sorry mate), even Chris Sutton and you know what given the team around him Torres is the WORST Chelsea forward in my living memory. ~~~~ we should have a poll just for all those vote for Torres morons.
Tbh, it's probably Torres coming on here to vote for himself. "That's ridiculous @Forever, he's busy training everyday duh". Well m8, really showing us then on the pitch eh?
That's the last time I'll have a convo with myself, I promise :p
Thank you. Lol
Our 2nd half display was magical, how I wish we could show such level of hunger, zeal and commitment in every game... Rafa may not be the best coach for us but I like the fact that he is always ready to try out new things and change the squad a bit... Playing Lamp and Oscar in pivot was never expected and not too many coaches will have the boldness to do that or even think of it. I think if we have good and reliable depth we will enjoy him, he is a coach who can utilize our full strength/squad, make everyone in the team happy, make us unpredictable and still get results.....
Real Madrid Vs Man U.... and ...Arsenal Vs Bayern Munich! Lool. I'm loving it!
Sparta prague vs cfc
it's taken me a long time but over the last few weeks i have completely lost faith in torres. hr's lost the only thing that set him apart from other strikers; his speed.
Spartak Praha! Perfect draw for us. With the January arrivals,i hope to see us cruise past them. I dont subscribe to the we wont take it seriously mentality of using fringe players. We dont have much chances of trophies anymore.
I want United to destroy Madrid
I want United to destroy Madrid
But Madrid will win and United will have time to concentrate on the EPL.
If we can get Falcao, we will win the Europa league.
After that draw in both the champs league and europa it look's like it's chelsea that has to do the business for England in particular, and britain in general, in europe, again; and to think the press give us such a tough time! ironic!

@SameX, if we get Falcao he won't be able to play in the europa league, That's why i keep saying we bring back lukaku and buy leandro diamiao cause his a top finisher, younger, much cheaper and can play in the europa league.

The more i look at the Real Madrid Vs Man U. Arsenal Vs Bayern Munich, the more i realise that chelsea really are a force in europe(EVEN now!). I mean you look at the real vs manu game and Real look like they are going through ArSen vs Bayren, bayern look as good as through, then you imagine chelsea Vs real or bayern and it doesn't feel as clear cut.

tough darw for man u and arsenal but who cares, dey hate us and we hate them too. a fantastic draw i think.
spurs are not going to get it easy too, so is looserpool, i cant wait for February to come.
An example of the above comment morinho Vs red nose (doesn’t matter what red nose says he’ll lose!) stats and style of play say’s mor wins. Now if you think of bene vs mor you feel much more confident that bene will win out, even if you compare stat’s!
pego sama
i think pego sama is right we have to buy diamiao but pleassse leave lukaku alone. he is doing well at west brom so let him develop there.
Fantastic draws, our crashin out of cl in the group stage is lookin like a blessing in disguise
our draw is good. not easy but we will qualify
i would love to watch shaktar against dortmund, it will be entertaining.
I understand what you're getting at @darilngblue, but the fact is, Lukaku is a sub at west brom and ill bet he would have played more game's or atleast the same number at chelsea, cause he would have been a sub here to. and considering torres form and danny boy's injury's i'll bet you he would have been a starter, in short the point am making is, josh is developing at boro cause his playing each and every game which he wouldn't have got here, KDB at breman the same, but lukaku would have been better off at cobham if you ask me.
pego sama
get your point pego sama, but the question is will rafa use him? even at elland yesterday he brought in paulo instead of saville, ake or piazon. i doubt rafa will use him often.
In addition he would give us a different variation in attack to torres or danny, you don't find a player with ability in the air ,pace and power anywhere these days. Just think of the number of games we've needed just that this season when all we've needed is to get crosses in or get someone to hustle for that through ball and you'll get my point.
pego sama
Pego, what about the story that Falcao is yet to feature in the present Europa campaign for AM?
@darilngblue, I think what makes the difference most of the time is what you cost and your quality and am pretty sure you'll agree that lukaku is better than saville, ake or piazon in every sense not to mention his a belgium international, so am pretty sure even rafa wouldn't s**w him over :)
pego sama
@ohans, he didn't feature in a single game, not even one, I love the UCL draws, it will be a cracker and I'll love to watch as a neutral, it promises to be an exciting game, but let's wait and see how it goes, it sure feels weird that chelsea is not in the round of 16, we'd have been talking about our opponents by now
Chelsea always do well against weaker club
Offtopic guys, it seem we are back in for willian!! I'll be glad if its true, he is a player I admire so much with what he showed in the UCL this season, I won't mind a midfield trio of oscar, mata and willian, with fellaini and rammy in the pivot and a deadly striker like falcao/cavani upfront!! Jeez!!! That can only happen in football manager me thinks
I'm not a torres fan nor a hater, but playing against a *****ty team like leeds, he could only manage to score on a rebound. I really want him to do well, but in reality, that doesn't seem likely. With the midfield he's got this was all he manages. Times up.
Torres gave up on him a while ago time to cash in.
@Pego..I think Falcao has not played any of the Europa league guess he will be eligible to play if he moves to chelsea. Even if he is a unused sub in bench, he can play. Got this from the guidelines doc in UEFA site.."A substitute player who is not fielded is entitled to play for another club competing in the same season’s UEFA club competitions, provided that he is registered with the UEFA administration in accordance with the present Regulations"
It is better to leave Lukaku at WBA this season. Let him develop there. We can use Torres / for PL, EL, FA Cup matches.
Lukaku is not even a starter at WBA and has had a handful of sub appearances but i believe he could have had better game time with us this season if he had stayed, with torres poor form and dany's injuries it could have been his breakthrough season.. However i hope he continues to develop into the monster we want him to be
