Europa League Draw

Over in Nyon, Switzerland, sometime shortly after lunch, the draw for the knockout stages of the Europa League was made.

Having been shuffled out of the Champions League and dumped in the Europa League, Chelsea were given a favourable draw against the Czech side Sparta Prague.

In a draw that also saw the ties for the last sixteen carried out, Chelsea know that if we can get past Sparta Prague, we will face the winners of the Ajax v Steau Bucharest tie.

More importantly and for those that doubt the competitions worth, as well as a possible final date in Amsterdam, May 15th, we could, if we win this damn thing, become only the fourth side to win all three major European trophies - The Champions League, The Cup Winners Cup (now defunct) and the Europa League, quite an incentive we think!

Well as I said if we get 3-4 players in january we can challenge for the trophy and its winnable, but I doubt if we'll have 4 new players or recall the likes of KDB and lukaku, ajax and prague are beatable if we have a clinical striker or two, it will be something to see of we win two european trophies back to back

Well contrary to public opinion,we should take the europa league very serious, right now (after losin 3cups already) every cup is important and we can achieve success by threatin every game like a final, hopefully come may15 we would be writin another page in the history book and we all would live to celebrate the success of our dear club...KTBFFH

Pleased with the draw I just hope we turn up this competition its gonna take a lot out of us.
Elbowz
Eh,Prague isn't that far away to fly, good draw imo.
BlueBlaze
I agree with Ken4CFC that having lost the club world cup the Europa league now assumes greater importance than it did before.Certainly Sparta Prague and possibly Ajax are imminently beatable teams but even if we get past those two it only takes us to the quarters and then we will certainly run into some big boys like possibly Inter, Napoli etc. We cannot go far in this competition without a major upgrade in squad depth..that means like Desmond has said buying several players in January and recalling several loanees..i know Rafa would take it seriously because the man is working to build his CV for his next job but i doubt this is important to Roman and his three amigos..if Rafa sacrifices the team as presently is (with thin squad depth and strength) by playing his first team starters to go all out for the Europa league it will be at the price of consequences in our league form which will likely earn him the boot if we dont secure a top 4 finish..this was the same mistake RDM made last year when he went all out for trophies (FA cup and champions league trophy) when Roman wanted concentrating on top 4 to get back into the Champions league this year. Roman never appreciated all RDMs hard work and effort and it showed in how long he dithered to even offer him the head coach job and then the first sign of trouble he gave him the pink slip. Rafa must be wise..if he wants to last at least till summer he must place emphasis on what Roman and the three amigos want not neccesarily what he or even what the players and fans want.

We need to win this europa league, because this is the only chance we have to win it. I dont chelsea to play here anymore. Chance to win the CWC are still there, but this Europa League chance is once a life opportunity. We should not lose this. With new signings, we should give all our best to win it. The Draw has been very kind to us. We should ease past the next 2 rounds.
Blu_run
we wont win anything this season....with the squad and the manager we have now....our striker is uselessss, garbage, etc etc and our manager is fecking crap....and board are muppets....and roman is going crazy day by day with his crazy ambition of turning chelsea into barcelona but we are turning into new liverpool....we should add new tag line to our club...."you wont walk alone we will join you soon"....our season is all fecked up...out of four cups...lagging behind in pl...even 4th position seems to be out of reach now...the way things are going now....only god can help chelsea and no one...

I have always said out quest for a top 3 or 4 finish should never be an excuse not to go out to win the Europa league, this is our only chance to redeem our image before the world this season and to stake our claim as true champs/big boys... Some clubs like Ac millan, Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern and even Manutd can afford not to take the Europa league seriously because they have already attained the level of "confirmed big boys", we are still building to that level and so have to try to win it...
Latunvic
Sparta is not a bad team, and if Chelsea gets past them, Ajax is a tough nut. Given how Chelsea plays, I unfortunately can't realistically see Chelsea winning this trophy.
zg2000fs
Given the kind of teams that are around in the EL, it is quite a competition if you take up a sporting perspective. Inter Milan, Napoli, Leverkusen, Atletico, Benifica, Lazio, Lyon.... Some of these teams are UCL regulars mind you. The competition will also greatly benefit, now that we have unwillingly offered our name to it. Now that we are in it, we should go for the kill. PS: The league should be the first and foremost priority. Below third place would be suicidal.
iTrueBlue
No, suicidal would be finding yourself between the omelette bar and Rafa before breakfast.
ForeverChels
@shlok27: That is exactly how I feel. We are inconsistent, our striker is ****, our defence is doggy, we play with no motivation/hunger, I feel there is no UNITY in the team cause of SQUAD ROTATION, No leaders on the pitch, other teams BULLY our striker & midfielders easily. I will consider us lucky if we finish top 4.
