What an early Christmas present that was!

Team News - Rafa Benitez chose to make three changes from the starting eleven that won at Elland Road in midweek. Bertrand was replaced by Cole, Cahill coming back after suspension with Luiz moving into defensive midfield in place of Ramires and Hazard coming back in place of Oscar. In midfield, Frank Lampard was making his 500th Premier League appearance.

First Half - Chelsea got the action underway and were to romp to a 3-0 half time lead. The first goal came as early as the 3rd minute when an excellent ball in, from Azpilicueta was met by the head of Torres, some sixteen yards out, with his powerful header beating Guzan all ends-up and going in the top corner.

The second came just before the half hour mark when, after Hazard had been fouled just outside the area, David Luiz stepped forward to deliver the perfect free-kick to beat Guzan comfortably, for his 1st Premier League goal of the season.

The third less than five minutes later came after Azpilicueta had won a corner. Mata delivered the ball, Cahill saw his shot kept out by Guzan but Ivanovic was on hand to head home his 4th Premier League goal of the season.

The first half definitely belonged to Chelsea with the Villa goal, often, under siege, a siege which saw shots from Azpilicueta, Luiz and Mata all blocked. All Villa had to show for their endeavour was a shot from Bannan that flew over the bar.

Second Half - If Chelsea were dominant in the first half they were rampant in the second half, adding a further FIVE goals.

Strangely enough, we had to wait until just before the hour mark when Lampard made it 4-0 with a splendid low finish from twenty-two yards out for his 100th Premier League goal in London.

Villa battled on but the collapse game starting in the 75th minute when Ramires rammed home a shot, after a great ball from Piazon split the defence. At 5-0 it was only a matter of how many.

With 79 minutes gone, it was 6-0 after Oscar was tugged by Herd and the Brazilian picked himself up to smash home the spot-kick for his first goal in the Premier League.

The carnage continued in the 84th minute when Hazard cut in from the wing, exchanged passes with Oscar and finished in spectacular fashion, to make it 7-0.

There was a brief interlude in proceedings when Piazon was fouled in the area only to pick himself up and see Guzan save his spot kick, but it was 8-0 into stoppage time when Ramires fired home after the Villa defence was opened up.

Just the pick-me-up we need ahead of Christmas and a testing programme.

Congrats Rafa keep up the good work. Get the players you need in January and see if you can defy the odds and get a few trophies. I would love to see you beat + stop United...and I'm convinced that Chelsea is the only team who can.

Luiz makes our midfield more mobile, not much backward and side passes, more of forward and penetrating passes, that's what we need....

Was lucky enough to travel across the ocean and witness the game with my dad for the 2nd time. Absolutely amazing. Was glad to see Oscar get his first EPL goal, and was very happy to see piazon, he was brilliant. Hopefully he will see more game time

And Luiz was great in the midfield, was caught up out of position a few times but time will see him improve

Fantastic performance. The fight and desire to not only win but crush Villa was evident throughout the match - love to see that and love seeing the desire to get the ball back asap even in the waning moments of the match. Great job boys.

piazon would score more goals if he is given more oppurtunity then torrrs...the one two between piazon oscar haz moses were brilliant....play piazon more often and we dont have to look outside for players...we have players in our academy who are far better then the players we run after...hazard was brilliant play oscar in place of lamps from the starts the guy has to start he would be waste to sit on bench and david luiz is better in midfield....azpi is fantastic...moses is good he needs to improve his first touch...

Agree @Lat, definitely more free flowing. Mikel has that odd long ball pass which finds it target but most times it's either head down, sideways or back pass. You could tell the difference w/ Luiz.

Oscar in place of Lamps? That would be a waste of talent.. Did you not see what he can do in the final third? He's not a pivot player.

Our back-line was solid. Luiz belongs in the mf as he is a complete boss. I've said that ever since he arrived at the club and Rafa being the first to put him in that position just shows how good a manager he actually is. Lamps had a great game today, sprayed that ball all over the place, took his goal great as well which was well deserved, legend. Hazard was incredible today, absolutely incredible what a player. Torres led the line well today and his goal was amazing, it was because of he that we went on a romp. The subs were incredible as well, Rambo played great, Oscar was phenomenal as always and i am very, very impressed with what i saw from Piazon.

An excellent game by the lads today. While honestly I do not like benitez, if he continues to get this kind of performance of this team, he will be welcome to stay.

We need to take this result and use it as food and drink.. to fuel on to similar results over the new year . Hope we can get Falcao in January to take us comfortably to the title.. Total embarrassment for Manchester

I enjoyed every bit of the match and wished it didnt end. Where will i start to comment? I mean all the players were brilliant. Piazon reminds me of Kaka, looking forward to seeing more of him in the days ahead. And,believe it or leave it, Luiz is more of a midfield than a defender. I feel for Mikel, cos he's got a big fight ahead of him. Azpi,Hazard,Oscar and Moses were all in another planet today.

Good stuff from the boys. It's the best performance since Carlo's days. We still have to go one game at a time though before thinking of overthrowing the Manchester clubs which i think is possible.

Excellent performance from chelsea. Even with four goals up, we didnt sit back but continued attacking with much more tempo.... I hope we can maintain this kind of performance in our subsequent games this xmas period. Well done boys....
