FFP and Chelsea!
How do we go about it in January?
Now, I am actually looking at the FFP that is threatening European clubs and at the same time finding the best solution for our team.
Some people might argue that we need to undergo a spending spree to make us compete for the Premier League (forgetting we spent over £80m in the summer) but I am about to argue against that.
First I want to address the issue some of you made against David Luiz being a midfielder...some said he lacks the pace of a midfielder but out of Lluiz and Mikel who is faster?
Some say he lacks the physicality Luiz and Carrick or Lucas who is stronger?
Some say he hasn't played a big game and this same people said he better than Mikel in midfield yet Mmikel was our DMF in the UCL final, what other game is bigger than that?
Remember Mikel started his career as an AMF and he has been our DMF over the years.
This article might be easy for you guys to criticize because you want an established midfielder like Fellaini and Wanyama but remember Fellaini started as a DMF and he now plays behind the striker/AMF for Everton and this his latest position is where he has earned more plaudits.
I am sure the Everton supporters didn.t wait for him to play a big game behind the striker before they were sure he could do it and supported him and Wanyama, with due respect, how many big teams are in the SPL that Wanyama has faced week in week out?
Well my main reason for writing this is looking at the possibility of spending £50m pounds or less this January transfer window in order to boost our chances of complying with the Financial fair play rule.
Remember we aren't saying our squad isn't strong enough to win the EPL but we are just bemoaning our squad depth that we need to strengthen at most three positions which are the Centre forward role, the Defensive Midfield and the Attacking midfield or wing.
This is my own solution to these roles the attacking midfield: we have the likes of Hazard, Mata, Marin, Oscar, Moses and Piazon, even though Moses will be away for about a month, the remaining 5 players are capable of seeing us through before Moses returns with Piazon getting more games.
Now then the Defensive midfield: David Luiz has been a revelation and the way it looks, he seems to be the best DMF we have at present and even with Mikel leaving for about a month, Chalobah is also there to step in.
And if I have to consider Luiz as a DMF that will make us short as Centre Back, but remember Jeffery Bruma?
There are reports saying Chelsea will cut his loan short in January because he wasn't able to return to the Hamburg first team after his injury but he has been a regular there, so I am of the opinion that he is experienced enough to be a 3rd choice centre back behind Terry and Cahill and even Ivanovic can be our 4th option at CB.
While Ivanovic and Azpilicueta remains our right back option... that will leave us with the centre forward role unaddressed and with Lukaku wanting to stay on loan for another season it would leave the club with an option to spend on only a CF.
It would be up to them if they are going to sign a world class striker or a decent goal scorer because the board has the power to decide that.... but in summary this is what I mean:-
David Luiz to midfield, Bruma recalled back to defence, Piazon given more time on the pitch and finally we only have to spend on a CF, with this we can still compete for the league!
What I have just written here is my own opinion the board makes the decision and I sincerely hope they get it right come January!

I am also against spending. We need to replace Sturridge, but other than that we don't need to spend any more on new players. I feel that our current squad is capable of competing, it all comes down to each players hunger for winning , attitude and form. Bringing in more players will crowd the the team and might create an adverse effect instead.

I'm so confused. Paragraphs 3-5 seem to suggest Luiz is inferior to Mikel but then you go onto say Luiz is the best DMF we have.. I think it is a bit early to tout Luiz as the best DMF we have given he has only made 2 appearances in that position. But the talent is there it just needs to be polished and the only thing that can do that is time.

@foreverchels I only compared luiz to mikel just to point out that in my opinion I think luiz is faster than mikel and luiz is more physical than carrick or lucas (for those that said luiz lacks the pace and physicality to play as a DMF) I never said he is d best I said it "SEEMS" which is different from "he is"

Haha wow, talk about semantics. So he's not the best? If he's not then who is because SOMEBODY has to be the best in that position which is why they get the start on match day.

You keep living in dream land, I hope u and others like u would mellow if we don't buy in january and fatigue kicks in, so u feel this squad with the addition of a CF alone and perhaps bruma will be enough for the remainder of the season? I think its time for u to wakeup that we are not strong yet and we need squad depth

there is probably some truth in the article as well as some risk..the risk for me is that while I do acknowledge there Luiz is an immense talent, I have simply not seen enough of him in DM to be as bullish as this article suggests putting that the DM position is a very sensitive position in modern day football. One of the scenarios I am looking forward to is Luiz playing when the central middfield is congested with very tight spaces as well as against teams that pressure highup the pitch with the opposition AM almost man-marking our DM....Luiz will need to show a lot of class in those type of scenarios...so the question is do we hope for the best that Luiz will handle this situations perfectly or take the more cautious approach of playing him in DM this season against some opponents for him to get that overall balance that a DM needs to function properly...My opinion is that we still sign an enoforcer in January as we cannot take chance...top four is an absolute must for us as we are already out of champions league and the season is looking like there'll some very fierce competition for top 4. Ultimately from the little I have seen of David, I think he'll become a DM eventually but he still needs a bit of time which i dont think we can fully afford right now. I'll say if FFP is to be considered, we should sign an enforcer and a striker that is not expensive like Denba BA...that should guarantee a top4 finish all other things being equal....but if our intention is to actullay compete for the title very strongly, then we might be signing as many as 3 players in January...I also think we should not expect too much too soon from our youngsters..these guys are talented no doubt...but they need to be handled carefully as they are our future...I will leave Chalobah and Josh where they are till the end of the season (i have Bruma though and I think we can recall him if we want to..the guy has grown a lot)...and then start bedding them in gradually, not call them back now in the second half of the season when the pressure will be huge obviously...thats my 1 cent

Well I think we need a versatile mf that is composed on the ball, has an eye for a pass and is not afraid to dig in when the match gets tough. Considering Frank may leave us in January and Mikel gone for ACN here soon makes sense to strengthen that department. Along with our obvious need for a striker I think we'd be g2g.

@selven remind me next year to get you a snorkel for christmas so you can breathe under all that sand m8. Mikel is gone soon for ACN, what if Frank leaves in January, and Luiz picks up a knock in mid January? I know there is 4 Rambos but we only have 1...

@Foreverchelseai have said before on another thread...my pick will be one of Montinho/Benat/ Fellani, then Ba and Walcott)....then we can sort out our left back (if cole leaves) and sriker positions properly in the summer...even if Falcao goes elsewhere, I am sure there will other world class or potentially world class strikers that will be available: Cavani, Jovetic, Lewandoski are some obvious examples...if I include the proceeds from danny's sales..signing those three players will probably cost us around 35million which i dont think is tooo bad..if we wanta spend a lot lesser just bring in ba and walcott which wont be wise in my opinion..as it will imply we are assuming Luiz will slot in perfectly against all opposition immediately...that is some unneeded risk.

We think pretty much alike, I would particularly like out of those 3 Fellaini, Ba & Walcott for the simple reason and GabeU alluded to this which is a great point we'd be weakening those teams by taking those players on (Ars & Ever especially).

FFP or Not,,,we will buy quality players, Roman have some of the best accountants in the world and know better than us how to balance the books: we dont neecd to worry even if they spend another 100m on Falcao, Moutinho, Walcott or whoever. They understand the FFP more than any of us and will not do anything that will mae us become like Malaga. Am not worried, i will just wait and see who we get by Feb 1.

The idea here in the article would have been ideal if we were not gunning for silverware this term. But we need our squad to be stronger enough to compete with the mancs. I support the Luiz in midfield idea cos he has already succeeded there whether you want to evaluate him based on calibre of opponents or number of matches,he has all it takes to excel in that role. And quite frankly too,a whole lot of people who understand the game has recommended him for DM severally and you don't need to be an expert to see that he is more suited in the midfield. Don't get it twisted,he'll stil be available for the CB,but should in the mean time handle the DM as he is more capable imo. We need two good attacking options added in January,1,a partial wideman like Walcot and a complete CF like Falcao. I agree that getting a DM will be a waste of fund,we should better look for quality backups for the defense. I dont see any of the loanees as ready to break into the 1st team. Piazon can continue his progress with subsequent appearances. In all,addition of 2 to 3 players will do pending on the arrival of the afcon contingents.

Chelsea will get one of fellaini or falcao, as they are the only two players we are seriously in for, and I have a guess we'll get fellaini if everton agrees to sell him and that shows the board knows the importance of having steel in the midfield, decent sides have destroyed all the creativity we have, man utd,man city (CS) athletico madrid (Supercup) even above average sides like ,westham, westbrom and corinthians that have a defensive setup beated us with all the creativity we have, we NEED steel in the midfield and a potent clinical striker and a squad player, that's how we can attain top 3 and win any silverware, I won't be deluded by a flash in the pan appearance to coverup a midfield crack...my opinion though

I'll love david to continue playing in the role for maybe 8 games in a roll, we'll know his strenghts and weaknesses better by then, and we'll. Know if we should scrap the bid for a DM or not, and let's be sure if luiz is suited as a DM or a CM, there is a difference in both roles

@forever,@layorh and @desmond i totally agree with u guys,our squad is really very thin and with more players leavin for the afcon we need to sign atleast 2 or 3players to complement the ones we already have,top of the priority should be a striker who is cheap and guarantee goals i.e ba and bony,then a dm like fellaini we need his physicality and steel in the center of the pack(yes i know he plays SS now),then a winger and we are good to chalange the mancs

@Desmond..very important point you ve got there...i think he's better as a CM as he likes to drive forward...being a good DM requires an exceptional high level of positional discipline which i think will be quite difficualyt for David, he is an impulsive player that is very talented...early days though...!

guys all of you are saying that we need to add numbers. but whom and where would u add?? i think we havr got a squad of 22 senior players. but allowed quota is of 25. all of us are correct that we lack 3 players. but i think we not only lack 3 players but 3 CLUB TRAINED HOME GROWN players. and hence. in jan, if we are to ad numbers to the squad, we will first need to sell. we have 6 associate trained homw growns in our squad and minimum we need 4 in that category. but by outside scenes it looks like we will be loosing 3 of those, studge, lamps and cole. so we will be left with only 3 assosiate trained. and hence i think we r targetting walcott. let see how it pans out. but we really need to fill those places of club trained home growns. so that squad remains big enough. and competitive enough.

Instead of spending big for a squad player why are we not pushing for someone from the reserves to be push forward. These players need to be giving the chance. JT got his. Haven't wachted alot of reseves games I am pretty sure that there are few good players that would cope without problems. That is what the club should be doing when ever there is any injuries issues.

If we want to recall someone, then it has to be KDB. Not Josh, Chalobah, or Lukaku...let them play there and develop. For me, KDB is fit to play for us. He is ideal candidate to replace Lampard.
We will definitely get a striker in jan, but not sure who.

I have been trying to analyze a couple of things in relation to the FFP. First of all,let's not make arguments based on assumptions that we will be spared if we are found wanting. The rule is quite simple, break it and you are out of Europe. Football management has gotten more mathematical. Secondly, I can't remember the last time we were put under censure and came out unscathed maybe except for the Kakuta case,but we don't wanna risk that cos FFP is real. Buying this winter or anytime soon will depend on what we got from sponsorship or revenues so far after posting a gain of £1m. I'm made to understand that there's a level of lose we can actually post and not be caught by the rule, I stand corrected, its put at about £30m. If that is true, then, less than £12m from the Danny to 'Pool deal( as City and Danny are entitled to a cut) plus £30m plus whatever figure will be recouped from Malouda and probably Frankie leaving will be what we will spend. We need a striker importantly and a DM and winger less importantly. We will most likely get only a striker in the winter, or a winger who can also play CF or take somebody on loan and buy a winger. The board will certainly make a good decision.
