In For Baby Drogba?

With there being strong inferences that Radamel Falcao is staying put at Atletico Madrid, until the summer, the transfer gossip has us linked with another possible recruit.

Continuing along our much vaunted theme of acquiring a striker, it looks as if the man being focussed on now, if the gossip is correct, is Bafetimbi Gomis, currently on the books of Lyon.

A fee of £10 million is being quoted for a striker who has netted 11 times in 19 games for the French club.

Gomis, as you are probably also aware, is nicknamed Baby Drogba!

if Gomis is called Baby Drogba....that what should we call Lukaku...
shlok27
@shlok27 baby kraken
jay-cisc
The club was wrong to let daddy Drogba go.
llamedos
@jay-isc...baba drogba or baby gomis..
shlok27
I dont want Gomis...he is average at best...plus he is not exactly young...why call him baby anything??..hilarious - i guess its a joke.
layorh12
Lol @shiok 27....you are funny...but sincerely we don't need a "baby drogba",we knw how different the epl is from the ligue 1.we don't need a striker that will be second fiddle to Torres,we all know that even the best ligue 1 player last season is still adapting to the Epl and even their highest goal scorer last season is an utter flop in arsenal except he uses his head...we need a striker that can hit the ground running and not a striker that will take almost a season to adapt to the style of EPL....Gomis might just be another giroud or chamakh...who knows? So not in support of him at all.....
Hazard11
We cant get Gomis when we already have Lukaku who could yet come back next season....Why cant they just find a loan deal?
3nity
I actually prefer David Villa on loan for the rest of the season and then to splash big for Falcao.Gomis is not an exceptional player, unlike Villa who has proven himself on every possible stage excluding the BPL.the spaniard is a confident striker and he would flourish with Mata,Hazard,Oscar and Marin in the team.He would provide the needed competition for Torres but at the same time Torres will not see him as direct replacement for his place, but rather as a guy who is capable of playing alongside with him.however,I am against signing Villa on a permanent deal,as he is 31,he has an injury record and despite all the good signs, there is no guaratee at all that he will adapt to the physicality of the BPL.
Simeon23
Hahaha everyday we are bein linked to a new player(s),yesterday was david villa, today its bafetimbi gomis, tomorrow it would be gary hooper and so on..thanks to the board for keepin the press guessin
Ken4CFC
We shall call Lukaku "Baby Felipe Caicedo" lol.
B2K420
You can call him baby Messi for all I care.. However after I think about that that'd be a really really small player. Anyways, point I want to make is that we have Piazon and Lukaku already with Feruz looking to make an impact here soon. If the club signs this kid up then sends him off on loan I will have well and truly lost it with our board. Good thing it's just gutter shet, as usual.
ForeverChels
@forever..the guy aint a kid...he is freaking 27yrs!! (1985)...it makes no sense...and he is average...it had better been gutter shet!!
layorh12
@lay HAHAHAHA wtf I thought by never hearing of him I assumed he was young. 27 yrs old, yea um pass.
ForeverChels
Baby " Olivier Giroud ". Ligue 1 strikers have been average since players like Baba-Agba Drogba and Karim Benzema left france, so no thanks.
munich Glory
noooooooooooooo.........
traykidd
Bull*****. I'd rather we recall Kakuta or better still bring back Malouda to the first team.
BOTUM
alvaro negredo...! or Ba... Jovetic is up there on my list too.... CM is where we will really feel thee pain....
denverblue
Gomis is not better than lukaku, neither is he better than loic remy, I think teams are linking chelsea to their clubs just to get a hefty fee for them from their suitors, I read on twitter that we are bidding 15million for negredo too
Desmondadonis
Some may find this funny but i dont. I hope i am wrong but the impression i am getting is that our board is out there fishing blindly in deep waters and just trying to see what comes up the fishing hook. We have sold the only other striker we have to a fellow competitor thereby enriching them at a discount price (Danny to Liverpool is done and dusted already) and we clearly dont have any target/replacement sealed or the media would have got some wind of it..we are and were linked with every striker imagineable from Remy through Bony, Jovetic, Ba, Lewandowski, Schurrle etc and now we are dredging the very bottom of the well with players like Villa and Gomis. The lack of anything concrete tells me just that..we have no concrete target and this is very worrisome. Remember come Jan2 we as a club will have only one recognized striker in our main 25 man squad and he is El Nino. Beyond his spotty form and penchant for disappearing in big games the guy is human..is he expected to seriously lead the line in all our games ahead..what happens when he gets injured, is suspended or his dreaded goal drought returns? This is what happens when no rational planning goes into team building..it is one of the side effects of operating a continuously revolving carousel of firing and hiring managers. It is now an open secret we need a striker (or two if we are wise)..every team out there with any half decent striker will now add on an extra bonus fee to their usual Chelsea bonanza fee since they know we are desperate. We are likely going to get abused financially again for subpar talent. Left to me now that it is fairly clear we are not getting Falcao we better move for players that have some resale value and whose price is reasonable while potential for return on the field is half decent..my votes Ba (who has clear buy out clause amount so we cannot be financially brutalized), Walcott and maybe Wifred Bony (9-12mill max). Gomis will be a total waste..i have seen this guy play quite a bit..he wont cut it in the BPL and Villa is a very dangerous gamble..he is clearly in decline..he is one more significant injury away from retirement and it could easily happen in the rough and tumble BPL..i think Rafa is warming up to him for the singular reason of beefing up the spanish contingent in the side which he feels will increase his chances of staying at Cobham for some time...besides that i am not fond of getting any players from Barca.
GabeU
@GabeU: 1) IMO Chelsea board is not stupid they must have a plan in place i.e. If we don't get Falcao we will get this (?) striker/s. 2) Lukaku: Lukaku reminds me of Felipe Caicedo. Lukaku is big but is not as AGILE as Drogba, always on his HEELS like Torres, wins very less headers like Torres, holds the ball up just like Torres, does not make that many runs behind, off the ball is useless LIKE MARIN. He is not aggressive enough in the box (You watch West Brom games). I do believe if Lukaku was in our team he would have scored more goals than Torres.
B2K420
B2K420, you are talking about another player because that is not Lukaku.
foreign_viewer
Remember it took Drogba at least a season or two to settle at Chelsea. He wasn't working out atleast for the first season that i know.
TheIncrediblue
@foreign_viewer: I watch most of West Brom games, I am afraid it is Lukaku I am talking about. @TheIncrediblue: I hope he improves in the next 2 seasons, I just wish if he can become half as good as Drogba then we will be alright.
B2K420
interesting post @GabeU although i disagree with your opinion that the club does not have potential strikers lined up for us in the january transfer window...the way our transfers were carried out last summer clearly suggest we have significantly improved in the way we deal with in-coming trasfers..I mean no one had a clue Oscar was coming until the deal was really close (that cant be compared to the Robinho saga couple of seasons ago)...I also do think the club knew for the time now that danny was leaving the club before it became public knowledge and i dont expect Emenalo and co to just fold their hands and not do aynthing knowing we only have one fully fit striker in the squad who has played nearly all the matches since the begining of the season...we have clear targets I have no doubts but nobody knows who hence the cheap journalism we are seeing all over linking us to every player on the planet...I take this as a positive and I am impressed...let's see what happens early in the window...my gut tells me theo walcot will be one of our signings..fingers crossed.
layorh12
@layorh12: IMO these days agents make sure all clubs (who have asked the agents to be kept updated for any potential bid/s) are aware of the price they are selling their star for incase some other club bids higher so that the agent might get a bigger cut (Hazard Deal is the best example). Chelsea wanted to keep it under the covers but the GREEDY AGENT made sure ManU and ManCity are aware of OUR OFFER. The only thing Chelsea are doing now is that they are doing ground work (getting all the documents ready/offer details/future options/bonuses) so that when they make a bid other clubs MIGHT have less time to put a better offer on the table. REST ASSURED the players we are going to sign will join us for these reasons 1) Better salary 2) Recent CL winner 3) No other club can match their demands (Hazard deal)
B2K420
Another Lukaku
Larger_chelsea
It's funny that many of the guys in here still call the board clueless and has no foreplan. You lot are just rubbish. The board and its members would be 10 times better than you. Just shut the F up. When Rafa came I was so happy that we got a quality tactician and unsurprisingly he has done a good job so far. And you lot called him an idiot and that he destroyed pool and crap. Just STFU and send resumes to CFC if you think you are that good. Morons.
Fernando.9.Torres
Stories out that Ba deal is almost finalised and he will sign in 2 jan...Looks like a great deal again by chelsea...selling sturridge for 12m, buying Ba for 7m...Ba to sign for a wage of 40000 basic + another 40000 based on appearances...will be good 2nd choice striker
Blu_run
Maybe a temporary fix can do the trick at the moment.
