Chelsea Set to Sign Demba Ba

Chelsea Set to Sign Demba Ba

According to many reports emerging yesterday afternoon, it seems Chelsea are set to sign Newcastle's Demba Ba.

Talks were apparently scheduled between Stamford Bridge hierarchy and Ba`s representatives last night and this transfer rumour is coming from multiple sources, adding to its credibility. A release clause in Ba`s contract means Alan Pardew is powerless to prevent the 27 year-old`s departure from St James` Park and it is understood Chelsea are also willing to pay a further £2 million in agent`s fees to get the deal done and dusted. The signing of Ba would cost Chelsea £7m plus any signing on fees, agent's fees etc.

Chelsea need more firepower, after having agreed the £12 million sale of Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool, and can no longer rely on the impressive Fernando Torres for the rest of the season. An injury to our number nine who seems on target for 20+ goals this season wouldn't be good, so a player with Premiership experience and who finds the net on a regular occurrence, albeit a snip at £7m, seems good business.

Benítez was tight-lipped on the potential new arrival. "We do not talk about our business in public. My job is to prepare the team for games and they will let me know," he said. "Ba plays for another team so I do not like to talk about it."

Newcastle United are resigned to losing Ba who is looking for a five-year-contract and wages of around £83,000-a-week, a package Newcastle are reportedly not keen on offering.

Could this be a shrewd piece of business by Benitez? The man can score goals, and £7m isn't a lot of money for a proven Premiership striker these days.

well...'ll take Ba and run, i hope he passes his medical though beause of those knees...i suppose there'll a lot of value in that deal..when Pressed high up the pitch yesterday, I saw Luiz struggle for the first time. While he has talent, he will still need some time to adapt and develop.we'll still get at least two more players imo; a wing forward and a midfielder, then we'll be good to go...fingers crossed

Nothing to do with Benitez (maggot), his remit is solely as the team coach. As for Ba he can't be much worse than we got right now eh?

He's 27 & is demandin a 5yrs contract. Will chelsea give him that knowin fully well that he 'll be 32 when his contract expires? I dont think so. Mayb a 3yrs contract will do. Also he's knee injury prone. He earns 20k a week with an additional 20k base on his appearance at newcastle. Chelsea are offerin him a double of that (40k a week with an additional 40k based on his appearance). Newcastle 'll pay him 2mil as a 'loyalty payment' in his contract when he signed from westham in 2011.

Not a Bad deal,He is cheap and also has EPL experience,@least He offers better hopes of scoring compare to Lady Torres. My worries are 1. What if Ba begins to fire on all cyclinders btw now and end of season, what has to our interest in Falcao? 2. What if Torres & Ba's partnership ends up being one of the deadliests, would we still sign Falcao? Let's remember that there's a certain Lukaku doing fine @ the moment @ WBA.Some may want to argue that teams like UTD or City parades 4 to 5 strikers but my view is this,we play more of a midfield game and all our midfielders are wonderful and can also score,so we don't need to really keep 4 strikers who may never get to play regularly cos of rotational policy.I'd have loved to see strikers like Falcao,Neymar& Lukaku @ Stamford Bridge come next season.Wishing Chelsea the EPL come 2013.NO CHELSEA NO FOOTBALL!!!!!

Glad this is happening. We need a striker who will assist Torres and I think £7mil for the second too scorer in the EPL is a snip. Yes he has a dodgy knew and doesn't pass medicals, but at the price if he fails its only like what Torres has done for bloody £50mil lol. Get him see how he goes and then in be summer I'm sure we will see a falcao or cavani heading to the bridge. But if Ba does well will it be him or Torres makin way? I've got a feeling Torres might just be a make weight in any deal for falcao, just have this gut feeling, probably totally wrong lol

DjDutts...Rafa has no say whatever on signings made. He is interim and will have to work with whatever he is given, this is a club signing and you should know better mate. I'm a little skeptical on the Ba deal,he is a top striker but has been struggling with a knee injury, heard he failed his medicals at Stoke,West Ham,and W.Brom. Reports coming out say Chelsea will run a thorough scan on his knee to see the extent of his injury. The idea for Ba is probably a quick fix/ back up for Torres till the summer.

I am optimistic about Demba Ba. A good signing at the price. Will hold the fort for 1-2-3 years till Lukaku / Falcao are on board. We should not sign him for more than 3.5 seasons at teh most.

Ba, hmmmmmm, let's wait and see, I am not excited neither am I dismayed, but if we get him let's just hope he is injury free and clicks with the team. But as someone said earlier, so what do we do with him in the europa league? Is it a sign that the board have asked rafa to focus on winning the EPL?

no to ba....because he wont replace torres upfront thats why need a big signing who could replace torres upfront...we dont need a back up striker we need a striker who can replace torres and that will happen if we have a big signing here at chelsea price tag matters....ba wont dislodge torres upfront if he get signed...and we need to get rid of torres upfront and that is a must....roman should shell out a big money signing like damio lewadonski jovetic etc etc...

Latest news suggest that discussions have broken down. He'd be yet another player to compete in the African tournament. This is a problem Emenalo fails to recognize.

We should sign African players but restrict the number to max. 3-4. I stress that our Africans have been top players but AFCON is during a critical time of the season and players might be a month away. This weakens our squad against our PL opponents. So, yes top Africans but a reasonable number.

Ba might come back into discussion as presumably other clubs aren't willing to pay more. Probably a greedy agents is trying to get a bigger cut.
