Chelsea Set to Sign Demba Ba

According to many reports emerging yesterday afternoon, it seems Chelsea are set to sign Newcastle's Demba Ba.

Talks were apparently scheduled between Stamford Bridge hierarchy and Ba`s representatives last night and this transfer rumour is coming from multiple sources, adding to its credibility. A release clause in Ba`s contract means Alan Pardew is powerless to prevent the 27 year-old`s departure from St James` Park and it is understood Chelsea are also willing to pay a further £2 million in agent`s fees to get the deal done and dusted. The signing of Ba would cost Chelsea £7m plus any signing on fees, agent's fees etc.

Chelsea need more firepower, after having agreed the £12 million sale of Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool, and can no longer rely on the impressive Fernando Torres for the rest of the season. An injury to our number nine who seems on target for 20+ goals this season wouldn't be good, so a player with Premiership experience and who finds the net on a regular occurrence, albeit a snip at £7m, seems good business.

Benítez was tight-lipped on the potential new arrival. "We do not talk about our business in public. My job is to prepare the team for games and they will let me know," he said. "Ba plays for another team so I do not like to talk about it."

Newcastle United are resigned to losing Ba who is looking for a five-year-contract and wages of around £83,000-a-week, a package Newcastle are reportedly not keen on offering.

Could this be a shrewd piece of business by Benitez? The man can score goals, and £7m isn't a lot of money for a proven Premiership striker these days.

well...'ll take Ba and run, i hope he passes his medical though beause of those knees...i suppose there'll a lot of value in that deal..when Pressed high up the pitch yesterday, I saw Luiz struggle for the first time. While he has talent, he will still need some time to adapt and develop.we'll still get at least two more players imo; a wing forward and a midfielder, then we'll be good to go...fingers crossed
layorh12
he is cup tied ... i'd rather go for michu or recall lukaku even benteke would do for us
raghavgurbaxani1994
Nothing to do with Benitez (maggot), his remit is solely as the team coach. As for Ba he can't be much worse than we got right now eh?
Pantisocrates
I'm cautiously optimistic on this 1, I hope he allays my doubts entirely
@Mq
He's 27 & is demandin a 5yrs contract. Will chelsea give him that knowin fully well that he 'll be 32 when his contract expires? I dont think so. Mayb a 3yrs contract will do. Also he's knee injury prone. He earns 20k a week with an additional 20k base on his appearance at newcastle. Chelsea are offerin him a double of that (40k a week with an additional 40k based on his appearance). Newcastle 'll pay him 2mil as a 'loyalty payment' in his contract when he signed from westham in 2011.
prince china
Not a Bad deal,He is cheap and also has EPL experience,@least He offers better hopes of scoring compare to Lady Torres. My worries are 1. What if Ba begins to fire on all cyclinders btw now and end of season, what has to our interest in Falcao? 2. What if Torres & Ba's partnership ends up being one of the deadliests, would we still sign Falcao? Let's remember that there's a certain Lukaku doing fine @ the moment @ WBA.Some may want to argue that teams like UTD or City parades 4 to 5 strikers but my view is this,we play more of a midfield game and all our midfielders are wonderful and can also score,so we don't need to really keep 4 strikers who may never get to play regularly cos of rotational policy.I'd have loved to see strikers like Falcao,Neymar& Lukaku @ Stamford Bridge come next season.Wishing Chelsea the EPL come 2013.NO CHELSEA NO FOOTBALL!!!!!
DANNYGOLD
Glad this is happening. We need a striker who will assist Torres and I think £7mil for the second too scorer in the EPL is a snip. Yes he has a dodgy knew and doesn't pass medicals, but at the price if he fails its only like what Torres has done for bloody £50mil lol. Get him see how he goes and then in be summer I'm sure we will see a falcao or cavani heading to the bridge. But if Ba does well will it be him or Torres makin way? I've got a feeling Torres might just be a make weight in any deal for falcao, just have this gut feeling, probably totally wrong lol
Dave-David
DjDutts...Rafa has no say whatever on signings made. He is interim and will have to work with whatever he is given, this is a club signing and you should know better mate. I'm a little skeptical on the Ba deal,he is a top striker but has been struggling with a knee injury, heard he failed his medicals at Stoke,West Ham,and W.Brom. Reports coming out say Chelsea will run a thorough scan on his knee to see the extent of his injury. The idea for Ba is probably a quick fix/ back up for Torres till the summer.

@SkySportsNews: Sky sources: Demba Ba's representatives had an 'unproductive' meeting with Chelsea and will now talk to other clubs"
nelyvanile
I am optimistic about Demba Ba. A good signing at the price. Will hold the fort for 1-2-3 years till Lukaku / Falcao are on board. We should not sign him for more than 3.5 seasons at teh most.

@nely, Wow...quite a pity

Ba, hmmmmmm, let's wait and see, I am not excited neither am I dismayed, but if we get him let's just hope he is injury free and clicks with the team. But as someone said earlier, so what do we do with him in the europa league? Is it a sign that the board have asked rafa to focus on winning the EPL?

no to ba....because he wont replace torres upfront thats why need a big signing who could replace torres upfront...we dont need a back up striker we need a striker who can replace torres and that will happen if we have a big signing here at chelsea price tag matters....ba wont dislodge torres upfront if he get signed...and we need to get rid of torres upfront and that is a must....roman should shell out a big money signing like damio lewadonski jovetic etc etc...

Latest news suggest that discussions have broken down. He'd be yet another player to compete in the African tournament. This is a problem Emenalo fails to recognize.
1970Blue
I will have to say, yes. But seems deal is off for the moment.
Seabourch
@1970blue Which problem is that?so,chelsea shouldnt sign African players again because of AFCON?by the way, senegal didnt qualify for the Afcon tourney.
obimikelisdbest
We should sign African players but restrict the number to max. 3-4. I stress that our Africans have been top players but AFCON is during a critical time of the season and players might be a month away. This weakens our squad against our PL opponents. So, yes top Africans but a reasonable number.
1970Blue
Ba might come back into discussion as presumably other clubs aren't willing to pay more. Probably a greedy agents is trying to get a bigger cut.
1970Blue
hmm..Ba deal is off..I say lets put the efforts to sign Villa on Loan...that will be a good addition. Heard we are also lookiing to sign Taison...
Blu_run
ba is good buy but we shuoldn't buy more players,we have enough players on loan which we recall, one bad thing about most members here think that buying players is always a solution.why do u think dortmud is able to compete with Bayern.chelsea should learn to give players a chance when they are young, joshua should be now playing in our midfield but all of u know where he is now, compare that with calvery.so people stop thinkin of buyin players as a solution to our problems
joshuaoscar
he is a gd buy but once we sign him,we should buy no one else.the problem with most members here think our situation is only solved by buyin and buyin.what about the players we have on loan,we should recall any if we need to.defence we can recall kalas and bruma, midfield we recall essien,if we need any wingers we can recall de bruyne.let stop thinking that buyin is a solution to our problems.joshua was far better than calvery but look at them now.calvery is playin champions league football and joshua is in the championship.let us trust our youth players and give them a chance
joshuaoscar
Agents pressing for £4M! Parasites milking clubs really.
1970Blue
I dont get it when people say we shouldnt get ba because of his knee problem,i have been hearin this since his westham days and till date i cant recollect him breaking down instead its been goals goals all along,he failed medicals at stoke but moved to newcastle and has repaid them with bucketload of goals.demba is prolific, thats what we need and at £7.5mil its a no brainer,we should get him...lukaku said he does not want to comeback and he would like to stay with the baggies 4 2more seasons so lets grant him his wish(he has been doin lots of talkin these days)
Ken4CFC
I think Ba is a great signing if Chelsea allow him to fairly compete for a starting role. Unfortunately it hasnt happened in the past and we've always played the price tag no matter how awful he performs. If we sign Ba now and say Cavani in the summer (and get rid of *****orres) then the 2 could start up front together as a deadly combo; With lukaku on the bench. I can imagine us altering our system to a 4-1-3-2 with Ba and Cavani upfront, with Moses/KDB, Mata/Oscar, and Hazard/Piazon behind them. That can cause havoc to any opponents
Ess...DaBison
Why do people suggest Villa. What we need atm is some pace upfront, Villa was never known for his pace, and at 31 is always going to be loosing the little he does have. He has also just come back from serious injury who is to say he will recapture his old form. We cant afford that risk as the only striker we have at the club atm is a flop.
Ess...DaBison
Rumours say that 70000£ per week wages was not sufficient to sign the agreement between Ba and CFC. And I want to see who will pay him more (considering that nobody don´t know how long will last his legs). Currently his wages at Toon are 20000£ per week plus bonuses.
CFCblue.est
@CFC...From what I have learnt from news coming out, the disagreement is not between Chelsea and Ba, its between chelsea and Ba's agents who want a massive 4m...bloodsuckers, they dont know the club can no longer be held to ransom...I still think the deal will go through though..it is good we are playing hard ball...i hope the deal gets sorted early in the window.
layorh12
70000..... not enough....first of all that is too much for him...why we are over paying for a squad players....time to say ba ba bye bye.....good that deal got broke...
shlok27
The agent should be jailed..thank God Cfc has wisened up and we no longer give agents crazy money when they dont even deserve a pinch of it
Ken4CFC
Ba will replace Dragba nicely, he is one of the best sharp strikers in the EPl.
Prestige F1
sign negrado and Finish it off.
Blue India
Look like chelsea is now wise since westing money on torres, besides huge salary puts players under pressure to perform that's why they fail.
Prestige F1
sign negrado and Finish it off. We have a match in 2 days. Also recall our young goalie courtois
Blue India
does courtois rhyme with tortoise?:)
Blue India
I'd only be happy with Ba if we add another forward like Falcao or Walcott ! That's what we need! We need pace more than a striker that can hold a ball up these days !!!! Walcott would be ideal in every aspect !!!!
Shedend
Walcott hold up play???? Jesus Christ.....Demba Ba is all we need upfront. He would have at least buried and ran the channels much much better than Torres yesterday and scored at least one of the sitters Torres missed against Corinthians. He continuously scores in big games and will win the shirt at Chelsea. I am not worried about his price tag. I am certain he will replace Torres if he replicates the type of form he has had at Newcastle. Make no mistake about it; Chelsea wasn't playing Sturridge ahead of Torres because of price tag, but his contract situation. Anyone who has been a contract renegade has been given the dog house treatment. We also know any manager who has benched Torres and played an inform striker ahead of Torres has had a run/won titles. Rafa benched Oscar (irrespective) of his price tag for Moses. If Torres is costing him games as well as his long term coaching future which might be at CFC (God forbid) or elsewhere, he will play Demba Ba upfront and not Torres in the important games. We can leave Torres to participate in the Europa League and Carling Cup games.
KAKUfrank
Well said @kaku,i dont know why most people dont get it that somebody like ba is what we need,a prolific goalscorer and cheap..instead they want us to spend huge fees on the falcaos, cavanis and jovetics of these world...pricetag doesnt matter,if u are good u are good..am very certain if ba comes here he would either bench torres or improve him.
Ken4CFC
let buy him fast, at lest he is better than 50 CENT. Ba cld win us the league with our fantastic midfielders we have.
meloxy14
We can worry about Falcao/Neymar or any big name signing in the summer after we offload Torres to Mars or Roman's mansion in Russia. With Falcao/Neymar and Demba Ba next season, we should be able to work on the PL and UCL title next season. All we need in January is another Central midfielder. No need for Walcott. It makes no sense. We already have a problem playing Oscar and Moses (Ramires featured yesterday) consistently, add Walcott to that headache.
KAKUfrank
Thank you for that comment about Walcott, KAKU. I completely agree. As for Ba, he's a consistent goal-scorer wherever he goes. Isn't that what we need? Ba is so dangerous inside the box--where a striker should be dangerous.
RadioactiveD
I agree with the views expressed by some on the benefits of getting someone like Ba. I mentioned him as one of two forwards i would target this window since Falcao is not coming (the other target i would like would be Walcott if he were available..the differences between what he and Ba offer are obvious). What is now apparent is like i hinted previously because of how we handled the Danny situation everyone now knows we must get a striker this window no matter what. Suddenly that 7.5 million quoted as the cost for Ba has ballooned with every concieveable add on you can imagine. When it is all said and done now it looks like we will need to spend every cent we get from selling Danny (12 million less the 1.5mill we needed to pay Danny back) and maybe even more to get Ba. It is now a game of who blinks first..we have to hope no one else out there matches or exceeds what we have offered or we may lose out on the guy.
GabeU
I meant Ba hold up . Walcott pace.
Shedend
One other worrying thought about this which Rafa will have to come to terms with is how can handle El Ninos fragile psyche if Ba arrives and starts scoring like there is no tomorrow. As long as we are winning i think Roman will swallow his humble pie but the problem becomes if we ever hit a dry spell and Rafa refuses to bring back El Nino as the main man..this was the narrative that got Carlo, AVB and RDM the boot eventually. As annoying as it is one of Rafas mandates for getting this job was to ensure that Romans 50 mill toy gets working and looking good so the owner does not look like such a fool for spending that fortune on him.
GabeU
@GabeU...very correct that is the risk we face now...I still hope we get him though...we need him apprently and its public knowledge...if only we had done this last summer, this drama developing could have been avoided alltogether...when will chelsea learn?
layorh12
@Kaku
Shedend
I'm not sure I follow your argument, GabeU. RDM got the boot in spite of playing Torres for 90 minutes almost every match. What's interesting, though, is that Torres seems at the root of every sacking one way or another. You're certainly right about that. You know how we solve that problem? Get rid of fecking Torres!
RadioactiveD
btw ive looked it up and ba is NOT cup tied in the capital one cup but IS cup tied in the europa.
trueblue44
@KAKUfrank: Great comment "offload Torres to Mars", lol. We all would like him to go as far away from Chelsea as possible. @Ken4CFC: You are right Demba Ba will bench the little/fragile/cry baby/GIRL Torres, nobody can improve Torres not even GOD. @GabeU: You are right Ba's price tag has gone up since we were linked with him. IMO Courtios will be part of any Falcao deal i.e. Atletico Madird will make sure we give Courtios to them on a permanent deal and then they will let us have Falcao.
B2K420
@ Radio D, Duncan Castle came out a few days before our game against Juve in Turin to reveal that RDM had been under orders from above to always play El nino no matter what. RDM had apparently had enough of it especially because of poor results and clear dip in form both of El Nino and the team and was determined to do what he felt was best for the team..namely seat Torres and play Danny instead..he was called by the brain trust and warned that is he did that and results went south his head would roll. Sadly Danny got injured literally just before that all deciding game and RDM decided to stick to his guns, seat El Nino and instead play Hazard as a false 9. We all know what then transpired. I do agree with you that the more i think about it this problem may never go away till Torres is moved out of CFC the way Sheva had to be moved.
GabeU
I doubt talks have broken down....they were preliminary TALKS to establish negotiations. By today's standards, Ba is worth at least 20MM and a salary of 100k/week. You hear this talk of bad knees but he has not been injured since Newcastle so I would not even listen to that. Ba scores from free kicks, headers, he creates something out of nothing, he can cross, lead the line of offense and he can hold the ball. I am skeptical he might not play the one two with Oscar, Mata and Eden, but at the same time those layers are also capable of creating direct opportunities.....thinking of the crosses, cut ins, and decisive passes we have seen Torres fail to take advantage of from Frank, Oscar, Mata and Eden! Ba lives for those! As Kaku pointed out....Ba can run the lanes much better but on top of that I think he can lead the line of offense much better. You can tell Eden, Luiz, Mata, Mikel are always looking for a target but there is none. Imagine Ba drawing 2 defenders, holding the ball and Mata hitting from there! We will win the league this year with Ba!
OCBlues
Ba or is agent is demanding 100k per week. Torres is like a really bad disease it is affecting all of our players and will kill Chelsea or take us down the **** hole. Sometimes Chelsea (front 3) players don't pass the ball to Torres as they know he will loose it straight away they don't pass to him in the box as they know he will take 3 touched and then loose the ball.
B2K420
@OCBlues: I totally agree with you. Mata, Oscar, Moses, Peter Cech, Cesar & Hazard would like a target man to hold the ball/win free kick/win headers so that rest of the players can move to the opposition's half and we can start an attack but what is happening now is that LADY Torres looses the ball and all 10 players have to WORK HARD to win the ball back. Ba will create more space for our mazcar then Torres ever did. Ba will score more goals as mazcar will have FAITH IN him and they will create more chances for Ba.
B2K420
we should mark the day torres was signed as black day....god why we get this type of looser in chelsea...worst strikerrrr in the whole world with getting top salary in top club and to top it all playing 90 min inspite of olaying poor performance one after another.....last nite when oscar passed the ball to him he had an open chance to score and yet he fumbled it showed us what the feckk we are dealing it.....and roman dont know is he started smoking weed that we are gonna win epl ucl with him....roman please take torres with you in your vip box along with sheva to give you comapany...one hell of a expensive vip box it will be...
shlok27
If the problem had been sorted in the summer we wouldn't be in this situation. Again we seem to be in a quandary in this window, were supposed to be selling Sturridge, ok but then we need someone to replace him. We also have a the Torres situation of which he cannot be dropped if he is your sacked. You've got two types of striker in this window, the world class 35m plus striker that will want to be top dog, then you've got the ones who are regular starters at there clubs who will want huge wages to move to make up for the fact they are gong to be bench warmers. There's also the question how long do we want them for, are we shopping for short term deals, then loans would be a option, or do we want them for future seasons and they get 5 yr deals. I'd buy schurrle and Walcott, both can play cf and also the wings, and if Torres is off form then replace him with one of those two. The big money signing should be made in the summer. Next season, falcao/cavani, Walcott, schrulle, lukaku.
Blue1989
If we wanted to make a big name purchase, why not a sneaky bid for mario Gomez.
Blue1989
mario requires like 20 chamber to score 1 goal. Munich midfield creates those many chances for him to score.
Blue India

GabeU, do you mean to suggest that had RDM played Torres against Juve that he'd have kept his job, win or lose? It could very well be true, but I've always seen that loss (independent of who started) as an excuse for the board to finally get what it had wanted all along: the removal of RDM. Not playing Torres was simply an excuse, I believe. It appears to me that a manager will get the sack if he doesn't play Torres; a manager will get the sack if he does play him but doesn't get him scoring; a manager will get the sack if he gets him scoring but not on a consistent basis. I really hope it isn't so simple, but if that's truly the criteria to determine a manager's success at CFC, the values of those that run the club are totally out of whack. This isn't a one-man team and Torres can't be trusted to ever fully regain his form. He's not the same player anymore.
RadioactiveD
Mazcar would love a player like Ba to hold it up ten lay it off etc I have no qualms about this ! But I think we'd benefit in our style of play and money and playing time etc etc etc if we got Walcott I've wanted this lad for a while while Le Arse have been wasting him! Ba is a very good player no doubt but my debate is we'd have a lot stronger squad with Walcott as well! Sounds Cliche but he could be our Henry! Which pains me to say this he's English, 15m ish, fast, can finish, hungry to succeed in silverware which he's got to no avail surely it's a a no brainier no ???????????
Shedend
Tickets in post foe Swansea game ;) pahahahahh looking forward to that one! Hopefully with new forward to cheer on! Woo hoo yeah ! Keep the blue flag flying high !!!!
Shedend
@GabeU, Sturridge's agent is demanding the same ridiculous agent fees that Ba's agent is demanding. One thing I like is no club in the epl will be willing to pay an agent £5mm. Not Man U. Definitely not Wenger or Spurs. City don't news him. Ba also has to move since Newcastle can't afford his wage demands.
KAKUfrank
@radio D..i cannot say for sure but i actually agree with you and got the impression that Roman never wanted RDM to begin with and was just waiting for the first excuse to show him the pink slip..the only way RDM would have survived would have been if we had beaten Juve..with or without El Nino in the squad..once we lost though and RDM essentially thumbed his nose at the big boss by leaving El Nino from the starting line up (remember he did come on as a sub later in that match) his fate was sealed.
GabeU
@KaKU i forget who the manager was..maybe it was ol Arry who said that these player agents are the scourge of the modern game..these guys are just so greedy...my goodness!!! Well Danny and Ba will have to get smart..they better remember the cautionary tale of Hulk and how he ended up at Zenit St Petersburg thanks to his agent and so called third party ownership payments..money is not every thing..if these guys value their careers they better get their agents to come back to reality rather than living in a twilight zone where money grows on trees.
GabeU
BA will be an excellent addition no doubt. He can hold up play and is generally more deadly than girly boy. But for 100k, he must be kidding.
Dwonder
Bt wat if ba flops lik torres? Just a question. Wat 'll happen?
prince china
think his quality but because of his style i.e poacher people are not to convinced, personally i think a finisher like him is what we need. he might not have the pace of falcao but his just as effective so he'll be a very good buy.
pego sama
I agree that Torres is wasteful for us...but i dont agree with attributing playing Torres for RDM's sack...If i am correct, RDM knew that the axe is coming...thats why he opted to drop torres and show that he was axed as he dropped torres...But i am sure that it is not the reason...If he wants to drop torres, he had so many opportunities to drop him before that crucial CL match...only a fool will do something like that in such a match...If RDM knew that his job is safe even after that match, i am sure he would have played torres...But, truth is RDM knew about the sack after the WBA match and he flew to turin thinking about his exit route and how to put the blame on torres rather than his incompetency...
Blu_run
I am happy that now chelsea have changed their way of doing transfer...they are becoming more shrewd...We dont need to pay out of the world agent fee...i am sure no club will pay that much...for many clubs, chelsea is the benchmark...if chelsea is refusing to pay that much, no other clubs will pay even half that...
Blu_run
Chelsea offered to double Ba's wage...(40k basic wage & 40k based on appearance and bonus)...but Ba representative wanted soomething different proposition and also a huge agent fee...I really want chelsea to stand on this position and get a real deal out of this transfer...i am sure ba wont be getting anything like what we offered at any other club...
Blu_run
This case is looking like third party ownership, which is illegal in England. Clearly Ba has one legal agent but the rest are parasites.
1970Blue
Chelsea paid 5m to Hazard's agent (the reason we beat ManU and Man City to his signature). They don't want to pay 2m to Ba's agent because they think Ba's is not worth it whereas Hazard was.
B2K420
Chelsea ready pay standard 5% fee for agents...but they want much higher fee...
Blu_run
Hazard - 32m + 35m (5yr wage) = 67m = 5m fee = 7% Ba - 7.5m+12m (4 yr wage) = 19.5 m = 2m fee = 10% Now, it shows how greedy the agents are...hazard is 19 yrs...Ba is 27yrs..Definitely Hazard is superior to Ba in all terms..So, chelsea an increase 2% from standard 5% fee..But for Ba, do we need t pay such high fee?????
Blu_run
Hazard is 21 not 19, if we pay almost 20m for a player of BA's caliber, its not a waste of money, his goal per game ratio is much more than torres who we paid enormously for and who is also getting paid for doing next to nothing as a striker. The onkly reason BA is not wanted by bigger clubs is his knee history, of not for that, a striker of his pedigree will be worth atleast £25m
Desmondadonis
@Desmond i agree with you...but then in this case, the extra fees demanded is not going to the player or the club (Newcastle), its going to some bloodsuckers called agents...its th first time i am hearing about 4 agents trying to manage a single player...ridiculous stuff...i really want us to get him though...but at the same I hope we dont get mugged (at least not too much cos we always get mugged anyways..lool)...fingers crossed.
