Match Day Moments - Stoke (a)
A difficult trip to the Britannia Stadium, to face Stoke City, beckons this afternoon.
It is, as they say, a must win game if Chelsea are to continue to harbour ambitions of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
Recently, Sir Alex Ferguson labelled Stoke as 'The Jolly Green Giants` such is their fondness for aerial combat. Now whether our team, comprised mostly of diddy-men can match them or as Rafa Benitez implies; dash between their legs remains to be seen.
Nevertheless, it promises to be an intriguing afternoon and you are all cordially invited to join us in our Match Day Moments thread whereby we`ll be on hand to discuss the starting eleven chosen by Rafa, the tactics employed and the action as it unfurls in the Potteries.
It should be quite an afternoon!

I am not worried about this game, despite the fact that tony pulis has a professorial degree in defending and parking the bus, what I am really worried about is the breaking of bones and marrow, flying tackles ju jitsu and shaoling martial arts we'll witness today, I hope ba,mata hazard or any of our players get an out of the season injury!! were we any different from stoke in jm era. Just a little more polished in attack and 4 beasts as defenders and 3 beasts in midfield. God i miss those days. A solid defence means less chance of losing and powerful strike force means higher chance of getting 1-0. Ra wake up. Lets do what we do best. We have won all our trophies that way. Lets face it. To play the passing game you need excellent referees. Once win will not allow physical game like in spain, italy etc. We need more home grown players or players from germany or france to deal with the physicality.

We have a sense chicken as a coach is it compulsory he has to stick to this ***** 4-2-3-1 ? This is a greart chance to play the two strikers in a 4-4-2. With Torres drifting more to the wings because if he doesn't know anything he does surely knows how to pull crosses. This formation makes Stokes job easy "cut all passes from getting to Ba" and we are down fall. Shaking my head.

if you factor in the fact that Tubby always wants some width, then this is best we've got for this match sadly....I am sure Tubby thinks marin is too fragile for a game as physical as stoke....and he does not wanta play Oscar on the right so we dont play too narrow while he also does not want to play him in the pivot maybe because stoke's players are bigger and very physical...I dont like the line up but we dont have anything better than this currently if wanta play tubby's way(with some width)....the real issue is that this squad is not deep enough at all especially RW, and CM and CF...clearly the board's thinking has been faulty since last summer....I dont wanta say anything about the pivot again, I will just say it does exist we are only patching things...God help us...but if we wanta help ourselves...we need to make at least 2 more signings in this window...a CM and another player who can back up BA and also play as a RW.....

I don't agree to barty on the wings nely, its plain stupid, barty offers nothing on the wings, no dribbles, no shooting, just occassional crosses, marin should be played in this game and it might just toughen him up, we can't treat him like an egg shell, play marin and he can bring barty in only if and only if marin is finding it difficult after a first half assessment, barty is not a winger both natural or artificial, marin is, but heck, I can never know as much as rafa in tactics or managing players, so I'll shut up and hope for the best

The first half was not that great to watch but we still managed to be 1 up ( thank you walters ). Second half will tell if we plan to park the bus. foreign viewer he is very good friends with sir alex, like a minion. Lampard has been careless in midfield and that was a shocking miss. Hazard has been sub-par, not in his amazing on the ball ability but he isnt getting his head up enough and the players around him are being more conservative than him in an attacking sense today. Bertrand made sense as he can stop crosses and cross himself by staying wide but he has been poor, maybe our worst player on the pitch. Need any sort of service to Ba. Now we can sit and play on the counter, works for me.

what an unbelievable result on paper? Stoke 0 4 chelsea? Those 2 magnificent saves by Begovic kind of settle with Walters (what a horrible day he has had) getting two goals. I doubt ours was a penalty and Hazard's amazing striker was just another of the weird things that happened today since his finishing normally lacks any power. It was a fabulous goal though.
