Chelsea must buy Luca Modric
If rumours are to be believed Chelsea finally have a chance to buy Luka Modric.
If Real Madrid`s handling of Nuri Sahin is anything to go by we have a really good chance of finally landing our man.
But of course Real Madrid wont sell him for as little as the media suggests. A paid loan (£8-10million) for one and a half years with an option to buy him for £20 million at the end of this period!
How does that sound?
Advantages
1. If Malouda leaves during this period, we hardly feel any differences in the wage structure. Lampard is also a high earner playing in the pivot leaving in the summer.
2. Chelsea`s primary need this window - a deep lying playing maker. Modric is one of the best out there.
3. Real Madrid are the type of club who can dispose of players as soon as they get them.
4. We can still go for Fellaini now/summer and Falcao in the summer provided we sell Torres. (We're now on £27 million profits on operating margins, let`s stay in the green)
5. I`d pay silly money to watch the Spuds go sick up their guts. Look at this pivot options - Modric, Fellaini, Mikel, Rami, Romeu, Oscar... not bad I say, not bad!
Call up Mourinho. It`s time we call in that return favour.

I literally scrolled all the way down (yes, without reading the article) to say this is BS! Why the phuck do we need modric who decided he wanted to go have some fun in the sun and a lavish life in madrid. Screw that, we have sooo much talent at chelsea and otherwise I'm sure we can get someone cheaper and better than Modric. FFS I wish this modric (and falcao) talk would just end!!!!!

what i don't understand is why don't we develop oscar into a long passer , a player who can play as a deep lying playmaker , the guys passing is very good but teach him how to cross/through ball it better from deep positions , we won't need modric...

8mil pounds for a year and half?? C'mon,thats bad business, why not we get benat with a sum a littl higher than that and have him forever. In as much as fansy Luca,i don't see that proposition as one of the best. Why 28mil in parenthesis while we can make efforts to secure im for 22mil at best in a permanent switch?

nooooo to modric he missed the boat and we got a great player in oscar.....i cant understand why can we play 4 123 system and make play oscar along with mata he can play a link between attack and defence rather than developing our own gem.why the feck we are after some useless junk....dont go after waste product we have enough of them....

4123? thats as laughable as modric joining chelsea. he clearly stated he wants to sty nd fight for his place. nd the whole 'need' thing is pointless. we dnt 'need' him.

Modric is a player who was made to look better than he actually is by a rich midfield group at Spurs especially a pair of very speedy wingers in Bale and Lennon as well as solid holding mids like Scott Parker, Krancjar and Sandro. He is now 1 yr older and could barely get game time at Real despite their injury woes. He was their one big summer signing and their season is in tailspin..Levy sure fleeced those guys. If we are to get him the quoted price of ~28 mill is atrocious..for a Real Bench warmer..no thanks..i would rather recall KDB and give him a chance to play at CM along with Mikel or Ramires. If we are to get someone else i would strongly prefer someone like Fellaini.

Pointless in loaning Modric for £10mil!Benat cost almost the same.an inform midfielder who is younger.We also have Oscar who can play that deep-lying role.after that you then want to add fallaini to the same midfield with Modric???

@true2blue pardon me if im wrong , but wasn't mikel toughened up by mourihno? his firstgoal for chelsea was a cracker , he was made to focus on his defensive game more , oscar should play as a deep lying playmaker which won't ruin his flair and creativity

NO to modric,that ship has long sailed...We dont need modric,he needs us..our midfield is ok,any other addition their should be a physical presence,we ve got way too many midgets,technical and skillful players so if we must get a midfielder it should be one that would give offer us another dimension which is steel and power(maroune fellaini is my choice)...

oh god dnt strt with the BS about fellaini being 'perfect' for the pivot. 2 sum it up he cant pass, cant dictate tempo, has average vision nd is a better CAM thn CDM

Good player but not worth 28mil (loan fee + buy fee). Surely we can do better business than that. @Saber, CM options sound good in theory but its all hear say mate, and Humza is right, Fellaini is better as a CAM, playing off the main striker really tan he is as a CM..

@Number25 the real madrid midfield is different and it set up very different from that of spurs. If anything the quality of players there like khadera, Alonso, Kaka, Ozil and Demaria meant that they really didnt need Modric and i was mystified as to why Jose spent all that money to get him. What needed strengthening for them was their defense and maybe one physical traditional target man striker as neither Benzema nor Higuan are those sorts of strikers.
I knew Modric would struggle getting any playing time there and when he does get to play he is not as good as the guys he is oft replacing which is a sure way to end up back on the bench.

He'll excel with us, but it might impede some players progress, but as I fondly say, I hope the best of the best player win and dorn our shirts, but for that price? No way, I'll go for fellaini or maybe de rossi

Nobody is sayin fellaini is perfect because no one is,he is savvy,versatile,strong,good in the air e.t.c,he can be our plan B...we have enough passers in the team what we need is a physical presence in the midfield,he is a brute and would offer us steel and power as we get run over any (semi)physical team(except stoke),as i said before our midfield is ok what the team needed was a finisher all along(now we ve got mr ba),just get him a backup(s)..but if we must add to the midfield then its not yet another technical,skillful,midget it should one that would offer us a new approach and thats fellaini(my preference).. I read an interview sometime ago where he declare the CDM as his favourite position among other positions

@ GabeU - correct me if im wrong but out of the midfielders named at Madrid, Im certain only Alonso and Khedeira play the deep role, meaning that they proably did need modric (or a cm to play deep) to add to the depth. They have also played Coentrao in that role at times as they have lacked depth there.

I'd take Modric anyday not to see the Mikel/Ramires combination in the pivot, that just has no fluidity, no creativity just functional football (Mourinho would certainly salivate at this)....We need a creative but tackling CM behind Mata because it's becoming evident that when Mata is muted we have very little to offer.

oscar is the best bet....4123 is the best comination play the regular back four....play a dm(luiz)....play oscar and mata behin ba as your no 10...oscar can play little deep...play hazard and marin on wings...ba as your striker...rather thn playing the usless pivot system going nowhere...oscar can provide the link between attack and defence and luiz if he plays dm then he dont have to go forward just let him play like a natural dm..covering our back four...we can use the width of marin and haz and mata and oscr can play in their natural position behind ba...

Funny! isn't it, you want Chelsea to sign Modric and the manager who has been using him sparingly despite the trouble they went through and the big money spent to get him.

@28m, it is a costly deal...The Max we can go for is 22m, bcos he is a proven material in EPL...He is good in passing, tackling, a good DLP...perfect fit for us...If more than 22, then we can go with Oscar or KDB...or else buy someone less than 15m....

@Mq,with mike/ramires/lampard combination we have done pretty well and created bucket load of chances only for tormented to waste most of it and make the team look terrible

Am just worried if we do buy him, the talent we have will start going to waste since after we could not buy him, plans were made past him and chelsea moved on.

4123 sounds good SHLOK I'd love to see how that'd work. In any case, I've always said I don't really see the importance of having a 2 man pivot sitting in front of a 4 man defense, that's 6 defensive players without much creativity. It's no wonder we struggle against teams like QPR, we have very little creativity

Yea mq,lets see how what happens with mr ba.hopefully he would replicate his goalscorin form for us..am indifferrent about the pivot,against qpr tormented had a golden chance(just like against corinthians) what did he do? He shot straight at the goalkeepers with the goal at his mercy..its not about the pivot bein void of creativity,its about the team bein void of a finisher
