We should be careful what we wish for.

We should be careful what we wish for.

Nostalgia is a seductive liar

Just responding to an article where it was even suggested that Roman is now more of liability.

We should be careful what we wish for. Nostalgia is a seductive liar... I am not hiding the fact that Roman has made a few wrong decisions. Tell me who doesn't. We will never know the exact reasons behind his decisions because he rarely gives interviews.

Despite all these, some fans are going too far to say he is a liability. Everyone talking about how they want back the sexy football before Roman era, how Roman is more of a liability and how they would be happier without wining anything for the sake of stability but yet won't campaign to keep the coach.

CFC has never had this long consistent success in it's history before Roman came along. Do we really want that CFC back? Do we really want the CFC that was on brink of administration back? (certain Clubs come to mind Portsmouth and Leeds) Do we really need to risk the known for the unknown?

Lots of Doggy would be owners out there check where Portsmouth are now and what is happening to Malaga. Some will argue we are now a better brand than 10 years ago and there won't be a problem finding a new buyer.

Let someone tell me how many buyers out there that will be willing to pay close to £600m without using the club and it assets as collateral and with the new FFP rule looming would have to rely on the club revenue (which everyone knows isn`t enough to run the club now) to maintain and keep the club as competitive year in year out.

We should be careful what we wish for... It might only take Roman to fall out the wrong side of his bed after a night on vodka for God to hear / answer some fans prayer 'we want the old Chelsea back,' and he may think 'Right enough is enough' and, if not selling up, then disengaging completely or reducing the target like Everton, Newcastle and many other teams that are happy to be in the PL?

What are we going to do then?

Do what some United fans did (form another team instead) when the Glazers bought Man Utd? Even the Glazers have not invested so much of their personal money on buying Man Utd. We should be careful what we wish for. CFC are debt free! How many top teams in Europe can boast of that? Not even Man Utd, Barca, Real Madrid and still competing year in year for trophies (it's not over until it's over).

Yet people are recently looking for the lightest excuse to be calling him all sorts of names. How many foreign owners watch as many games as Roman and go to see the team train? It shows more passion when watching their team play? There are few Roman YouTube videos. What do we really want?

We should be careful what we wish for, for the sake of stability everyone on this site and fans world over so dearly crave, are will going to be campaigning to keep Rafa instead? If not that is hypocrisy of highest order and we will be more as guilty as Roman. Because you can't wish for stability and the same time want the current coach to be sack.

You can't eat your cake and have it. One thing that is clear from all that are happening now is fans are insatiable. If we get a new coach or if RAFA stays there will still be some sections of fans that will be calling for the coach's head when results are bad.

For me and my household we are very grateful for Roman, for the joy, the feelings of winning the PL 3 times and to crown it all the feelings of being the European Champions. The feelings most old fans would have be only dreaming of or jealous of if not for the arrival of Roman.

Long live ROMAN.

Good Post Jollyheart...only a half wit ingrate chelsea fan would make such wishes. That's why i think most of the guys that make such statements are actually Tottenham supporters in disguise. How else would any long standing chelsea fan know where we came from, compare that to where we've been for the last 10years and now and say that the past was better - heck we didnt even have a decent training ground.

I believe in the Brownie points concept. Roman has got like 10yrs worth of Brownie points in my book with cfc fans and he hasnt even started using them how for Gods sake can people keep knocking the chap when he has giving so much to us, yet asks for nothing in return. thats the reality with cruel people i guess, they only remember bad things and never good ones..
25/01/2013 16:21:00
@JohnnyOz I struggle to understand the rationality when reading some people comments. There are a loads of fans wishing they have a owner like Roman. He has given so much, much to the team to desire the slightest insults being throw his way recently.

@ Jollyheart, the good thing is that such comments are a very small minority and you can expect this in any situation in life...I hope Roman will be around for many many years and that a small section of myopic chelsea fans don't give him a wrong impression of what is otherwise a very loyal fanbase for him and cfc despite his shortcomings (he has many, but then so do you and I) All i can say to you Spurs fans, stop wishing for Roman's demise, coz it aint gonna happen anytime soon....

Nice one @Jollyheart Torres... your article makes perfect sense... and what you are saying is very true... CFC fans are very insatiable and complain too much. You are right, a lot of the fans saying rubbish about RA now or wishing for the old Chelsea lack clear understanding and I bet most of them will deny Chelsea if we truly go back to our old state. We draw a match and almost everybody here go wild and yet these people talk of old Chelsea... they are just empty barrels making unrealistic comments. Like you said, Roman has his flaws and is not perfect, but for any Chelsea fan to say this man has brought us more pain than good is just complete nonsense.. Don't bother yourself too much, a lot of these fans don't know what they are saying, they just comment for fun... I can assure you realistic and sensible Chelsea fans understand that RA has some faults but yet appreciate his efforts, hope he learns from his few mistakes.... accept our predicaments for this season and hope we come out stronger next season...

I'm a bit surprised by this article, as I feel, that though there are grumblings, concerns, and sometimes just slanderous remarks against our owner, I don't actually think I've read that many people on here that want him gone. In terms of wanting the old Chelsea, I think what fans mean, is not that they want pre-Abramovich, they (fans) just want to be heard more and considered. I will ask one question though, how far do we back Abramovich simply based on a debt of gratitude for what he has done, if the backdrop of that time is total carnage and of being in a worse state than before? I just wonder how many would simply shrug and say, 'Our loyal leader has given us the best years we can imagine, yeah we're mid table and no manager wants to join us, but let's not forget where we were.' All of this is hyperthetical of course, but I just woner what the response is. I don't think anyone can deny that during the Abramovich era, the fans have rarely been properly considered, which, seeing as we're the people supporting the club, is not good enough and is really beginning to alienate them. You also have to remember, that managers having been chased for years, have also not been listened to and again that creates genuine concern for fans. I think it's trying to find a middle ground, where on the one hand, fans do remember the good that Abramovich has done, but, that said, on the other, it's also important that articles like these are a bit less scathing in their attack on genuinely concerned supporters. It's not right that people on here write comments, stating that those concerned are not real fans and know nothing. At that point your taking the high and proud road, which again, I don't like. So yes, this article is right. Balanced? Hmm, I'm not so sure.

@aslaram I agree, I havn`t heard anyone say that they want Roman gone. There are many people, me included, that are worried that Jose`s team has now come to its end and non football people at the club, are obviously giving Roman poor football advice. There is an enormous difference, in buying players with potential, as opposed to building a squad. Here lies the problem and peoples frustration.
25/01/2013 17:50:00
It is really funny, with this real fans and unreal fans reasoning, roman have given us something special and at the same time he have made us lost our respect a bit, every fan taking pot shot at us and even the blimey FA
25/01/2013 18:24:00
Roman has transformed this club, made it a global brand, and helped it to achieve success that in retrospect is surely pretty hard to imagine for those who supported the club prior to his arrival. I don't like his managerial policy any more than the next guy, but we have to accept the bad with the good--and though it doesn't feel like it this season, the good far outweighs the bad.
25/01/2013 18:46:00
Finally an article with sense....well done lad :)
25/01/2013 19:05:00
Chelsea is what it is today (successful and 1 of the "biggest" clubs in the world) because of Roman. No other owner has invested this much money without any returns for 10 years (and counting). He is not perfect (who is??) but he's definitely WAY BETTER than all the idiots that criticize him
25/01/2013 19:06:00
thanx 4the article.hope it reminds the idiotic ass funs who to make the chants.
25/01/2013 19:40:00
Haha!!! @Blueheart9, if you've not come across comments here saying RA should go, or remarking that RA is a disaster to Chelsea then it's probably you're not too frequent here or somehow missed such comments..... Don't worry, just wait for the next time we lose or draw a match and you will see such comments here...
25/01/2013 19:46:00
@jollyheart,thank u lad,u ve really said my mind..i ve equally been hammerin on this issue in debates with some fellow but u ve done a good job and ve put it better.thumps up...@johnnyoz and @latunvic,i agree 100% with u guys....@blueheart9,u should go review comments from past threads then u would understand the sole reason for this article....agreed roman makes mistakes but the positives of havin roman here far outweighs the negatives..
25/01/2013 21:12:00
@ Blueheart there is nothing like Mourinho team. Roman sanctions all the purchases above certain amounts. So it was is team not Mou. since Mou left tell me how many CFC coaches has enjoyed that freedom of spending loads of money on transfer?

We wouldn't be genuine PL contenders(start of the season) or champions league winners or even winning the fa cup and carling cup every other year can not be done without him. We need him , he has passion for the club.
25/01/2013 21:54:00
thank u for this article. Exactly what i wanted.
25/01/2013 21:55:00
@ demonds, do u know what being in administration would have done to CFC respect? mate it would not have come close to the jealousy tinted hit we are getting now from the media. From a team near to oblivion to a superpower in EPL and European football within a short time will surely bring jealousy.

25/01/2013 22:15:00
@aslaram, my point is we are successful today because he has set a high targets and that drive their decisions making. what we are always forgetting is that it's the owner and the board that set this targets not the fans. it's very easy to get sponsors being a European champion not for a stable team. I personally will be more worried when that targets is lower for sake of stability.
