Deadline Bid for Keeper

Deadline Bid for Keeper

Although the inference, from Rafa Benitez, is that following the signing of Demba Ba, Chelsea will not be making any more transfer window signings, newspaper speculation has thrown a very interesting name into the proverbial hat.

News sources are suggesting that Chelsea are getting keener, by the day, to land Birmingham City`s promising England U21 keeper - Jack Butland.

Cash starved Birmingham City are reluctant to lose their young keeper but the threat of going into administration could be the driving factor in tying up a deal.

Birmingham, in need of some cash fast, are rumoured to be ready to accept as little as £3 million for the highly rated keeper.

With the Vital Chelsea membership continually expressing fears about a decent back-up for Petr Cech, has the realization finally hit home, in the boardroom, that Turnbull and Hilario are not what`s required?

back up keeper wont be a bad place to start...but hopefully the board does one or two other things in the market before the window closes...but then what is the wisdom behind signing another young keeper we have already have one out on loan who is doing very well...the club cant keep both bcos of their age and one will eventually have to be the only wisdom behind this signing is that we intend to sell one of butland or Coutoius for a profit in the near future...If this rumour is true I do hope we are not thinking of selling Cotuois to Barca or Madrid?....hmmm....another conundrum developing....

layorh12 Or mabye they might offer courtois and some money for Falcao?
28/01/2013 13:31:00
Its a mere rumor besides I heard he will be loaned back to the championship until the end of the season,I am indifferent about this,I so believe that the future of chelsea's goal is cortouis, maybe the board is just ding this as a back up plan incase cortouis wants to move........ .....But sincerely why don't we focus on more pressing issues like that of a cm/dmf and a striker/winger????I don't know what the board is up to but I just pray they make the right decision because our sqaud depth is alarming!
28/01/2013 13:34:00
@Laku....if the butland rumour is true then there is a lot of possibilities now...we have to wait and see...may be Torres +coutious +15m for Falcao?....i dont know if that is a good deal...but we have to wait and see.....
28/01/2013 13:34:00
We haven't had a good pair of keepers since we had Cudicini (in his best condition). Turnbull and Hirario rank about 3rd class and we'd propably do equally well with one of our youngsters. At that price I think it not badly invested. Marin has been a waist of money and cost much more.
28/01/2013 13:35:00
@ layorh - if we're selling Courtois this may be a decent acquisition otherwise we would just be taking this prodigous yonung talent and wasting him away as 3rd choice behind cech and Thibault...that wouldnt make sense!
28/01/2013 13:37:00
*maybe d board is just doing this......
28/01/2013 13:37:00
I'd keep hold of Cortois for now but Butland offers us a possibility to lengthen Courtois stay (a year) at Atletico and gives us a bargaining tool in addition with Torres.
28/01/2013 13:38:00
Does this mean Courtois want to leave...Well, there is a chance as he is being wanted by the best...Barca, Real...He won't be our No. 1 next season and barca wants him as No.1...Too tempting...It wud be tough for board to convince him...hope this is not the case and he stays wth us....
28/01/2013 14:00:00
very good for the club. He should be used primarily for our Europa League games while Cech should be reserved for our League games to manage is Elbow situation. I think Turnbull's recent performances have indicated that he is not fit for a League Club.
28/01/2013 14:21:00
Why a goalkeeper on deadline day? Why not a solid DM to sit in the hole of our midfield? Its either a DM or a Striker, nothing else.

I think Roman has accepted his losses and wants to see out this season with just Champions league qualification. Then when a new manager comes, he can buy the players that manager wants. Just a thought.

Selling Courtois is nothing short of madness. He looks to me to be the best young goalkeeper in the world. This Butland link feels like nothing but a rumour to me. It's already been mentioned that we have Courtois, and Chelsea know how good he's been doing at Atletico, so I doubt would be willing to sell him or use him as bait for Falcao. But looking at it another way, why would Butland come here? Unless he rates himself to be better than Cech he's almost certainly going to be warming the bench for the next few years, and presuming we keep Courtois, once he returns from his loan, Butland will move further down the pecking order. Butland is young and will want and needs first team football, he won't move anywhere to sit on the bench if he values his career. The career of a backup keeper is vitrually non-existent. He'll go to Liverpool, that's my bet, as Rodgers has realised how ordinary and error-prone that donkey Reina is. this butland link is a rumour, a silly rumour. (i hope)
28/01/2013 15:39:00
we shouldn't let go of courtois honestly....
28/01/2013 16:02:00
Apart from Butland, I expect 2 more signings before Feb 1.
28/01/2013 16:15:00
Layorh actually took the words out of my mouth, chelsea are rumoured to have setted up a meeting with courtois and his advisers, I am thinking they'll either tell him to report to the bridge next season or they sell him to athletico for a swap + cash deal for falcao, hence they want the next best thing in england youth in butland and for that price? I won't mind if we buy him...
28/01/2013 18:22:00
I have often mentioned Butland's name as a credible no 2 back up to Cech till Courtois arrives. At 3m that would not be a bad investment in my opinion then move Turnbull to no 3 and Hilario to retirement. What we do with Butland when Courtois does arrive is up for discussion but what i dont want us doing is selling Courtois. Butland is decent but far from near the finished product. Courtois on the other hand is near the finished product at his tender age. We would be foolish to gift a guy of that quality at his age to any other team.
28/01/2013 18:29:00
If we sell Courtois then we are mad. Butland is a very good keeper but we would only sign him for the homegrown quota, much like turnbull. I can foresee that courtois comes back loaned out to pl and then the following season Cech gets sold whilst we can get a price for him. Or at least I'd like to think that, our club can't be that stupid to sell the best young keeper in the world, can it? This is Chelsea after all.
28/01/2013 19:53:00
Supersport now reporting chelsea have made an approach to #bcfc for Jack Butland. But player and his advisors want a move where he would get 1st team football...seems we are after him afterall....
