Newcastle United 3 Chelsea 2

Chelsea slumped to an away defeat at Newcastle United today, as Demba Ba's return to his old club was marred by injury.

Jonas Gutierrez headed the Magpies ahead late on in the first half after some lacklustre defending by Chelsea, and two brilliant second half goals from Frank Lampard and Juan Mata were not enough to earn the Blues a win.

Demba Ba started up front on his return to St James' Park, and John Terry made his first league appearance since early November.

Ryan Bertrand's run in the side continued, starting on the left flank in place of the suspended Eden Hazard, and Petr Cech returned to the starting line-up.

Newcastle started brightly, preventing Chelsea from imposing themselves early on. Davide Santon had a long range effort on goal but Petr Cech saved it easily.

Chelsea had to wait until the 9th minute for a decent spell on the ball, and the Magpies continued to make life tough for the Blues. Demba Ba's first touch was greeted by a chorus of boos from the home crowd.

Ashley Cole created Chelsea's first chance of the game, Juan Mata picking him out with a lofted ball as he made a run into the box before cutting the ball back into the path of Frank Lampard, who shot tamely over the bar.

Newcastle began to sit deeper and stand off, allowing Chelsea to work their way into the game.

Oscar had an effort from range in the 18th minute, but didn't trouble Toon keeper Tim Krul as he blasted the ball high.

Papiss Cisse soon tested Cech from the edge of the box, the linesman failing to spot an obvious offside run from the Senegalese striker.

Newcastle had a solid spell of possession in the final third, but their efforts came to nothing as Santon shot wide. Ashley Cole was the next Chelsea player to draw the ire of the local supporters, who subjected him to a round of heckling.

Chelsea were soon on the front foot, Bertand and Cole working the ball on the edge of Newcastle's box and managing to win a corner. Mata's delivery found Ivanovic, but the set piece came to nothing and referee Howard Webb failed to spot a handball by the Serb.

Newcastle broke quickly, but a succession of poor crosses from Gutierrez and Gouffran failed to test Chelsea's defence. Sissoko blasted the ball over the crossbar in the 27th minute.

Ramires was lucky to escape a red card after a two footed tackle on Guitierrez, Howard Webb only deeming the offence worthy of a yellow, provoking an angry response from Alan Pardew who marched onto the pitch to remonstrate.

Lampard played Demba Ba through on goal in the 31st minute with a lofted ball. Ba sped past Coloccini and shot into the path of Krul, he met the rebound with a headed effort but found himself on the end of a high boot by Collocini.

Webb failed to spot the blatant kick to the face, denying Chelsea what should have been an obvious penalty kick. Ba was ushered off the pitch by Chelsea's medical staff, blood pouring from his nose, and Newcastle fans yet again booed their former favourite.

Petr Cech came up with a good save in the 35th minute, denying Cisse who should have made more of the chance. Ramires took a knock after an aerial tussle with James Perch.

Demba Ba returned to the pitch with his nose taped, looking dazed, and the St James' Park crowd continued to heckle him.

As half-time approached, Newcastle pulled in front via the head of Gutierrez in the 40th minute. Ivanovic failed to shut down Davide Santon, who delivered a brilliant cross for the Argentine to head home.

Rafael Benitez opted to bring Demba Ba off as he continued to look out of sorts, Fernando Torres coming on in his stead.

Newcastle had a late opportunity via a corner as the half moved into injury time, Chelsea failed to clear the decks and were saved by Ryan Bertrand's diving block into the path of Sissoko's shot.

The Magpies closed out the half on top, leaving Chelsea with much to do in the second.

Benitez refrained from making any changes as the second half got under way. News filtered through concerning Demba Ba's injury, which was confirmed to have been a broken nose.

Chelsea began the half positively and won an early corner, but couldn't make the opportunity count.

Frank Lampard conjured up a spectacular goal in the 54th minute to pull Chelsea level. His shot from distance was a beautiful looking one, and the flight of the ball left keeper Krul with no chance to stop it.

Howard Webb failed to reprimand Papiss Cisse for a blatant elbow to John Terry's face in the 60th minute; as the play continued, Juan Mata served up a beautiful goal to put Chelsea ahead after a lay-off inside the box from fellow Spaniard Fernando Torres.

Mata's strike was masterful, beating Krul and curling into the top left-hand corner.

Webb delivered another baffling refereeing decision, sanctioning both Ashley Cole and Papiss Cisse with a yellow card after the Newcastle front man bizarrely put his hand around the throat of Cole.

Chelsea were now in the driving seat, dominating possession and dragging Newcastle around the pitch. The Blues pushed forward in search of a third, but Pardew's side soon found a way back into the game.

Gouffran broke past Chelsea's high line and sprinted through on goal, he dispatched an effort which Cech parried away but the rebound fell into the path of Sissoko, who promptly slotted the ball home into the empty net.

Juan Mata looked lively as we looked to get back in front, single handedly winning a corner after some fantastic dribbling inside the Newcastle box.

The Toon had another golden chance on the break as Sissoko beat Ashley Cole and made a run through on goal, but Cech tipped his shot wide.

Rafael Benitez got involved in a spat with Alan Pardew on the touchline, after Howard Webb failed to pick up a foul by Cabaye on Oscar.

Mata again looked to carry Chelsea forward, going on a fantastic run and managing to hold off Coloccini who was snapping at his heels.

Newcastle continued to soak up every Chelsea attack, and Sissoko was again at the forefront as they looked for a way to pull ahead on the counter.

Alan Pardew made his first change of the match in the 83rd minute, replacing Gouffran with Sylvain Marveaux.

Chelsea failed to make the most of a late free kick from distance. Ramires made an awful decision and shot well over the bar from a long way out.

The Magpies went ahead as the match entered the 90th minute, Davide Santon getting the better of Ivanovic as he dribbled into the box, laying the ball off for Sissoko who fired a shot past Cech.

Juan Mata took a yellow card for the team in the 2nd minute of stoppage time, breaking up a dangerous looking Newcastle attack with a foul.

Pardew tapped at his watch impatiently as the game wound up; Chelsea had a late appeal for a penalty turned down and Howard Webb soon blew his whistle to signal the end of the match.

A disappointing afternoon for Chelsea, things could have been oh so different had Howard Webb spotted what was a blatant foul on Demba Ba inside the box in the first half.

Newcastle, however, deserved their victory on the back of an impressive performance, putting Petr Cech under pressure time after time as they rained in a number of shots on target.

Chelsea: Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Lampard, Oscar, Mata, Betrand, Ba (Torres 41).

Unused substitutes: Turnbull, Ferreira, Marin, Azpilicueta, Benayoun, Ake

Now who are we going to blame for this loss?you can say rafa if you want but my blame goes to the BOARD,rafa said he needed more bodies and that the squad was thin but the board chose to ignore him because he isn't in the long term future of CFC,the truth is apart from the fact that we are ineffective in attack with torres on the pitch, the defence was so unprotected, romeu is out injured and mikel away at south africa, the board chose to improvise and use either ramires or luiz as a holding midfielder!!!....newcastle's second goal, terry miscaculated, gouffran was left alone with cahill,we all know that if mikel was present he would have either chased gouffran and free cahill to stick with sissoko or sticked with sissoko while cahill chased gouffran...the third goal, sissoko was free just at the edge of the box,I asked myself why?where was ramires that was to shield the defence?sissoko played behind the striker and it was our holding midfielder's role to close him down but where was he?Ramires can't be a DMF,he lacks the positional discipline as a DMF but the board chose not to sign a DMF who could shield the defence,we concede so many goals not because our defence is bad but because the pressure is just to much for them to hold and that's why a DMF is important in a team but the board chose to ignore the importance of a DMF,we will keep conceeding lots of goals until mikel gets back,he is our only hope now....there is this saying that we won't value what we have until we loose it,I guess mikel critics would agree that even if he offers nothing attacking wise but he does a lot defensively...its all the board's fault...
Hazard11
Drogba will do everything to beat nigeria, he knows that we need our players back, so he will it is all.
TafChels
Like I have said before, its bcos of players like Iva that Roman made the 1 year contract for 30 year olds bla bla...i have said it before, we should sell in the summer if a decent offer comes in...he is now a lot slower and the seria A will probably suite him better...he'll be a tank...no sentiments here...he should be sold...and not bcos of today's match....his performaces this entire season has not been good...as per chelsea, we'll be fine...after today's match..things will get better...Hazard will be back..togther wilth Mikel and moses...and after international break...Luiz will be back as well.....thats four players...I am still quite optimistic....m not factoring tubby into my thinking at all...as I dont know if he will be sacked or not....I expect the players to play for the badge....we'll see.....wigan next..!!!!..
layorh12
just sack rafa cant take it more of his disgustted sheet here at chelsea...hope by tommorow morning i get to hear a good news of rafa getting sack....
shlok27
Not a problem merlin, sorry for being a bit late on parade today!
Lofty 1905
^^^my assumption about Mikel and Moses is that Nigeria will loose tomorrow...thats what I expect...so as soon as tuesday we will have more bodies...
layorh12
we hadn't lost at Newcastle for years....then we went with a tactical genius called rafa...
dickturpin
Roman doesn't like youth players, he doesn't like bargain buys. He doesn't like having a complete squad. Every season there positions that need players. He never sorts it out. CMs and a striker are needed but he ignores that.
foreign_viewer
Benitez has to go yada, yada, yada but how the hell can a player kick another player in the face, break his nose, not get the ball and it is not a penalty never mind a red card? Brana got sent off against Man Utd for brushing into the back of Ashley Young for god sake!
CobhamBlue
If Azpilicueta had played instead of Ivanovic we would have won because we played some fantastic football.Oscar was superb on the right and would have had two pens if he had gone down.
THEBREEZE
mikel is slow, mikel plays wide passes, mikel cant tackle well, mikel dont score but now you can see what mikel can do critics
Tala4good
Of course it was a red card, but we can't look to that moment as an excuse for conceding two goals after taking the lead. And Rafa's unwillingness to make substitutions--or to play an actual winger at LW--is quite unbelievable. We're sloppy as a unit and our defense is a mess. Newcastle deserved the win--not because they're a better side--but because CFC made them look it today. That's the most frustrating part. We aren't performing at 25% capacity. I truly believe that.

Saw a few post on the Match day thread about Marin...Don't tell me this crap about Marin not being strong enough for Newcastle, that's utter crap...So I guess Bertrand is a Bison on the wings then. Anyone who has seen Marin within the last few games will notice the lad has been played on the right,he's not a crosser,he loves to cut in from the left unto his right foot and attack full backs. If we wanted an option attacking wise then Bertrand should have been taken off for Marin. I refuse to believe that crap about the lad not being good enough,he is being played out of position and needs game time to get back to full fitness. I watched Marin in the reserve game, where he played on the left and had a lovely game coming back from injury. As for Iva,he had one of the poorest game I've seen him play at RB in a while, his pace got exploited time and time again, unsurprising 2 of their goals came from his wings.
nelyvanile
Good point CobhamBlue...that was a penalty
pancake
I agree about Marin. There is nothing that Bertrand offers that warrants Marin's exclusion from playing his preferred position. Rafa's tactics are negative and the squad is playing not with confidence but with a fear of losing.
RadioactiveD
I am just disgusted...from top to bottom...***** poor organization with a non-motivated manager with a team that lacks urgency...Lets see...Owner that controls everything with a bunch of number crunchers and Yes men on the board...a technical director (Emenelo) in way over his head..No organizational strategy or long term plan...players that are loaned out that are significantly better that the players currently on the team...A manager that knows that he will be out this summer that doesn't care if the team looses because he will just say the board didn't listen to him...a team that gives the manager no respect and has the same attitude...doesn't care...an owner that forces the manager to play Torres...which the players know and thus do not respect him...Torres plays like ***** but he knows it doesn't matter because everyone knows the owner is forcing the manager to play him..so why does he care??? An organization that has three #10 players (Mata, Oscar and Hazard) all playing up front with only one true winger...An organization that got raped when they purchased Marco Marin...not hating on Marin.. but come on...did anyone really believe he could play in this league? This is so comical...so ***** poor that the manager has to play a LB Bertrand on the wing becaues he can't trust Marin...An organization that loaned out KDB because they believed Marin was better...a manager that has no option in the pivot so he is forced to play Lampard and Ramires which are two box to box midfielders that are not good enough..they cant controll the midfield, they can't pass the ball, they cant defend and they are not creative...in the 2nd half today Mata was coming back to collect the ball...oh yes...lampard is up attacking in the box...THis is why we get beat on the counter so often...Everyone in the whole wild world understands this so why is Oscar not playing in the pivot? The manager runs out the same old 4-2-3-1 losing formation with the same Lampard/Ramires/Bertrand...how are you supposed to score goals with this lot...there is no creativity on the field...This team lacks heart...this team lacks desire and the owner has *****ed up this team from day one by insisting to play Torres...and by sacking manager after manager and by not allowing any outside player personel imput...Just a *****ed up situation from top to bottom...I really don't believe they will finish in the top four...For the league games play BA at CF Torres on the right with hazzard on the left with oscar and luiz in the pivot... or change the *****ing formation to 4-3-3 if you have to play either lampard or ramires...what a ***** poor run organization....At this point the manager should be sacked and get someone that will put his foot up the ass of about half the team...and for god's sake get rid of the *****ing 4-2-3-1 formation because lampard/ramires is soo much better than Josh Mceachran....tell my when next season starts....disgusting and ***** poor....
lamarochs
Nobody understands Rafa's infatuation with Bertrand. It makes no tactical sense.
foreign_viewer
im sorry Nigerian fans but I hope Didier and co eliminate your team tommorrow. We desperately need Moses and Mikel like yesterday.
bluekid
When Mikel comes back in the pivot we shall see if we are any better defensively i.e. we don't concede once we go up 1-0 or we don't concede on the counter.
B2K420
We need to come together as a club. The arrogance and fickleness of our board and how our club is run has crept into our team. Roman and his advisors are learning the hard way. Whilst skill and ability helps win matches... its passion that is often more decisive. The passion has been drained out our club and dressing room and Rafa has the toughest job in football trying to get it back (especially with his history). Our arrogance is killing us. Our players have shown no respect for weaker teams. We beaten all the big boys but we are so casual against lesser teams its beyond belief. We need to take a good look at ourselves and start showing respect and doing whats right. Starting with offering Lampard a new contract. Just my thoughts...
pancake
foreign viewer I agree totally. Bertrand offers nothing in creativity. an abosolute joke we are!!

Super Frankie Lampard becomes the first ever player to score 10goals or more in 10 consecuetive seasons in premier league history. LEGEND!
Chelz Akamz
Atleast that is the only consolation i can take from today's match. And that mata's strike too was superb.
Chelz Akamz
this club desperately needs some good news....c'mon roman, tell us jose will be back soon
dickturpin
Offering Lamps a new contract would be a first good step in the Board thinking right. That and booting out Tubby. But Lamps has to be moved out of pivot, he's only use would be up with Ba (like Rooney / Aquero).
BlueABS
Our club desperately needs something to boost morale for the team and the fans.
BlueABS
Now some fellas are openly wishing for nigeria to lose tomorow so they can have mikel back. I am disappointed in them. The same mikel that is useless and not deserving of a new contract. Now u lots are desperate to have him back. I dont want to start shaking my head like the agama lizard mq.... I would rather laugh out loud....
Chelz Akamz
We need a good/pacey/strong ball distributor for the Pivot. Mikel can't pass the ball forward Mata has to drop deep so that Mikel can pass the ball to him.
B2K420
B2K420 we simply need a good regista/deep lying playmaker to play alongside Mikel.mikel can't pass?come off it bro.at least he can do it better than ramires.i wish Nigeria all the best tomorrow.we will silence our critics and win against CIV tomorrow.

Laughing my arse out at you counselling lot!!!! Shame on you, I saw the idiotic digs and I am ashamed I was right after all, if roman don't sack rafa tommorow, we won't make top 4 with him and that is final, if mikel and moses comes back, they'll play one or 2 good games and the blame will keep flying about again and u lot will curse mikel and moses again and again, the problem is the coach and the morons supporting him to the detriment of my beloved team, shame real shame..... And they say he possesses a tactical nous!! Rotflmao!! Sack the gabbage coach now and safe our season roman, rafa won't make us achieve the top 3 spot, be bold and sack the clueless fool, btw steve holland and adi viveash we can still bring sanity to our team
Desmondadonis
Save our season*, whatever is left of it before we go 30 points off the top two clubs, by the way mata is working on his last juices, I just hope he won't be milked dry by the Spanish man
Desmondadonis
Why was essien loaned.and the pivot next season should be Benat&fellaini or Benega/tiote or essien.players out ferrera malouda lamps bentrand hillario turnbull terry yossi mikael .
mzee69
It is true that rafa is not to be blamed at all times when things go wrong, that is the realist in me, but for the past games we have played in january can anyone tell me how rafa earned his pay in any of this games? We can argue that the players have their own faults, the board are bunch of muppets, but what have rafa done to minimize the damage, have he earned his pay? Are u confident he'll turn things around with the return of hazard, luiz, mikel and moses? I don't think so, if it was turnbull that keeped today we'll be saying cech would have done a better job, but alas we lost pathetically even with cech as the keeper, it is time to cut our loses with rafa if we want to win a position in the champions league and rafa is just a draw away from being sent off.
Desmondadonis
Would Hughes or hoddle come in for 5 months? Would take either of them right now over the FSW
Dave-David
Hughes? Are you kidding? Sparky?? We will be fighting relegation in 3months if he comes! Hughes!!!!! Unbelievable!!! Cant believe anyone would even suggest that name! lmao
3nity
First they say buying moses was a waste of money, and furthermore that mikel is too slow and he passes the ball backward.Like i would love to say you don't knw what you have untill you lose it.As for ivory coast beating nigeria God forbid because mikel and moses will still be with nigeria for one week cos nigerians value what they have unlike chelsea football fans.
sunnymakcres
The FSW is doing a good job, who else could he have picked today.
johnkelv
Rafa out we never wanted you and we will never want you.
sojofjand
Webb's performance was truly pathetic! Twas like he had on his Manchester kit today. Let's hear what the pundits have to say now! Finally, is it my imagination or is Torres getting worse?
kdnachi
Sunnymakcres - lets get this straight..Mikel is an ok DM. The problem is that Rafa plays 2...get it...2 box to box midfielders that lack distribution skills and defending skills...and YES mikel does play the ball slow....that is the ******** problem with this team...the midfield is amongst the worst in the league...and a am referring to Ramires/Lampard...who does not know this....either one or the other of Ramires or Lampard should play in a 4-3-3 formation...but NO...Rafa has both Ramires/Lampard playing out of position in the 4-2-3-1 system...For all that want Lampard to sign and extend his contract...that is all ok with me...but GOOD GOD play him in the right ******** formation...we were lucky to get two goals today...both goals from individual excellence and NOT from team play or from team creativity....Mikel is OK and better if he plays with someone creative that can distribute the ball...YOU know I am sick about restating the same thing about 50 times..Is there anyone at this point that does not understand this??? I mean...really...we have been discussing this lack of creativity/passing ability in the pivot since preseason...the problem is that if we see the issues why can't the ******** organization see the problems????
lamarochs
After watching it again, it's pretty simpl to see what the problem is on the pitch (I won't even begin with the Board and the people Roman has entrusted to make decisions). We haven't got a left wing worthy of our Club, at least not on the pitch. Ryan would do well enough at WBA or the likes, but not here. Give Marin a shot FFS. Our HM's are not HM's. Go bless Lamps, but he's not a holding mid and never will be. Ramires is an enigma...I can't really figure-out where he should play. Hecan't pass to save his life and he's always too far forward to offer anything on defence (as is Lamps). So...in a nutshell, we need a real and true HM and to see if Marin has what it takes to be a starting LW. Forget scoring, that will come, we concede far too many easy goals by our lack of pace on the outside and horrible positional play by our "HM's" (I'm being generous calling them that). Off the pitch, fire Emeliamo, Rafa, Gourlay, Buck and put some tried and true winners that understand that some level of depth is necessary to win anything; hire a manager that is a winner, quit overpaying for has-beens and give the youth a shot.
rockhead
Bertrand is not a Chelsea player and should not be in the team. It is not only Rafa that chose him but RDM also and I don't see why. We brought on Torres in the CL final to replace Bertrand and he wins the corner that Drogba scores from. We must have effective players on the field not passengers. Even Yossi would be better there as Bertand does not even provide anything defensively either. True the squad is thin but either Torres or Yossi instead of Bertrand yesterday would have made a difference. Betrand contributed nothing or nothing that I saw anyway.
OldShedBoy
And why wasn't that (Demba Ba) a penalty then Mr. Webb? I am fed up with all these decisions going against us.
OldShedBoy
Although we have finally gotten rid of the non-performing players like Kalou (missed too many chances), Malouda (too drifty), Boswinga (not that bad actually), Sturridge (too many mistakes); Meireles (couldn't pass to save his life), we are still lacking something now rather than having non-performing players. Why is that other clubs seem to be able to find these spirited high intensity players for a couple of million? Emenalo? Should he go? But he seems to be the one who has gotten rid of the deadwood. Essien is apparetntly playing well for RM. Why is he not recalled to fill in the spot left vacant by Mikel (who I am also not that fond of but better than most).
OldShedBoy
Oldshedboy.Malouda came on for Berty and Torres for Kalou. But you are right. In Munich,we had to stop Robben and Lahm. There's no sense in playing him there.
cfc250
I just saw the highlights of the game on match of the day. Full credit to Newcastle for making us pay in midfield where EVERY coach knows we are lightweight and defense where we are not barely legit. I notice nobody is having a go at Ivan and Terry for their shameful display....I wonder why? The dude in the number # 8 shirt scored so he will face no reprimand nor will Ramires be scolded although both are only letting the team down game after game as they cannot move the ball effectively or aid in defending attacks. Rafa will be blamed although he should not be....the players are simply not good enough especially our deep midfielders who apart from a lack of skill are VERY indisciplined. Look at the Newcastle team set up...look at how the players work hard. That's the kind of setup we should be going for not one with overpayed stars, ancient players who don't know when to quit, slow, ineffective interplay and ragged wild defending. Gosh this lot of players leave a real bitter after taste...but I will continue to hope for a miracle...Mikel and Moses?
had2bg
For gods sake just sack this ***** and get it over with. Sacking RAFA will atleast once again unite the club. The fans will get off the back of players and create a good atmosphere at SB once again. Just that itself will install the fear again in the opposition teams. Our board is trying to make a wrong by making another wrong. SACKING RDM is WRONG now our inept board is trying to make it RIGHT BY taking another WRONG decision of sticking with this clueless piece of *****. Just appoint holland or JT as a player manager and throw the towel on the EL and f.a cup(field much reduced team).Get yourself knocked out of the cups on purpose. Concentrate solely on the PL.
BlueAndWhiteArmy
While I've not been too kind to Mikel over the years as a complete player, I will admit that his lack of pace served us well in that he rarely ventured too far forward unlike hose currently playing the HM role. I have to believe that his return will help with a pathetic defence. JT was overpowered for the first goal, pure and simple. In the third, there was far too much ball watching and space for the shot...blame to the HM's. Once again we are undone by lack of effort, positional discipline and expecting players to play positions they are not physically, emotionally nor psychologically able to play at this level. Blame to RDM, Rafa and those that didn't plan for the ACN, injuries, etc...
rockhead
For once Oscar had a good game possibly benefiting from recent run in the team. Benitez should be thinking about either a formation change or personnel change in the double pivot. Maybe Oscar and Mikel?
Anarchy
Ooh! Now some people are begging for mikel and moses to come back? And even wishing for 'em to be eliminated by ivory coast.GO GET A LIFE! I hope Mikel and Moses wins the afcon...and get 'bout a week break...Dunno 'bout u but the 1st blame as usual goes to benitez for not trusting his players on the bench..allowing bertrand to play a full 90mins.He is so confused he cant mark,he cant attack he cant defend.someone tell me Wtf bertrand can do?.....and flop of the match has to go to John terry...its sad but its true...JT has lost 2much pace....he should have organized the defence better for the second goal wtf waz he doing at the middle of the pitch when we were winnin by 2goals to 1....we keep f.u.ck.ing up our chances..i'v suffered more heart break than a ***** cos of chelsea....I'M too young for this kinda Sheeeeeet!!
Krested Kal-el
Our season is going into complete meltdown I am normally against sacking managers but here I am not Tubby has to go with him at the helm its nothing but we are going backwards. WTF Bertrand playing in LM I ask the question why not Marin ? even worse we lose Ba and put on that 50m waste our squad is thin and lacks depth.
Elbowz
Roman needs to do us a favour and sack rafa, no need to be smarting from pep's rejection, he needs to move on, we have a jewel in adi viveash or we can recall ray wilkins, rafa is clueless and u can see it with the way he keeps making the same mistakes over and over again, selecting the same team, the same tactics and formation, he is not someone that can help us out of this problem, he'll keep dragging us down, there is no way he will save us from this, we'll keep losing under him and winning maybe once in 5 games, we can still salvage this season if roman do the right thing now and save us from our blushes come may
Desmondadonis
@obimikel....:Mikel can't pass the ball forward first time (FIRST TIME!) he passes sideways or backwards. If he wants to pass forward he will wait and wait and then check again if there is nobody infront of him who might intercept the ball, by the time he has been waiting we have lost the momentum and the counter attack is dead as ALL opposition players are back in their half, Mikel will then pass backwards or see Mata coming 5 yards from him and shall pass to him.
B2K420
@ lamarochs: Spot on mate, I also don't understand why can't the Chelsea board see the issue with the pivot i.e. their passing is SO SLOW and they don't create anything?>>> I hope in the summer that will be their first priority along with the striker/s.>>>I love Ba more than before cause he showed he wants to earn his money in the right way unlike Torres.

Who feels it, tastes it and thinks it??? Then WhyTF can't (Dr.) Roman give us all the remedy to recovery by sacking that Tubby lard. Pronto! Vite! I mean, it never stopped him in the past!!!
BlueABS
You have to blame Roman for the squad imbalance. He can get the players that can complete the team but he won't. He did it with the last set of players where strikers like Anelka had to be makeshift wingers. And now he's refusing to get dedicated midfield passers.
foreign_viewer
Tubby & FT are both malignant to this Club. Both of them fell into decline at Liverpool and dragged that club down, look how long it is taking them to recover. The history is there fall all to see, only a blind man wouldn't be able to.

*for all to see*

BlueABS add the fact that Roman picks Torres to play every game. The owner has to take blame for that.

Give Rafa the job full time.He is a terrific coach and get rid of Ivanovic. If he defended properly we would have won the last two games.Ryan was fantastic yesterday and created several chances which weren't taken.Rafa is king and he's here to stay.Sign him up full time Roman, there's no one better.

And Manure keep marching on with their 1-goal wins!! Anyone getting bored with that?

FV - I doubt Roman sends the Manager a team sheet every week LOL But yes, he has definitely ruled that FT should play most games, there can be no other reason based on footballing reasons. I firmly believe it was this aspect, more so than the dip in form, that caused RDM's sacking. Robbie putting Hazard in as false 9 was a major gamble that back-fired, but I love that Robbie effectively gave Roman the single finger on that edict.

Luiz in midfield and we didnt concede goals on the counter. Maybe 1. Before the luiz in midfield experiment we kept conceding, Juventus, West Ham, Shakhtar. Dont wait for Mikel to come back since that wont help much, we need pace and power in midfield. You would think that Luiz would have had the pace to drop in behind after Terry's missed tackle for Newcastle's second gaol, in fact you will see him doing that in a number of games. Another day of football that showed us what we lack, up front with Sissoko and Fellaini being Everton's savior again. Newcastle have a playmaker in Cabaye, a hustler in Tiote (injured) and now Sissoko. With Lampard and Ramires we can say we have have the first two. Who's idea was it to play with a holding midfielder in every game? Why are we even playing that *****in system when it only brought us success when we have had to defend. I am losing patience with some of the tactical decisions at the club. Why drop Azpilicueta when he was doing well, Ivanovic was at fault for the final goal. Make a tackle mate. He just walked past him. And Bertrand at left wing again? Some neat interplay with cole aside he hardly put in any crosses (2 were very good) and I would actually prefer torres to be the furthest forward in a chelsea attack than bertrand. Oscar needs to be central throughout. I mean some of the changes stick out like a *****in sore thumb and they dont fix it. To Rafa's credit he did try and liven up our midfield and we were improving before Luiz got injured.

The pivot, pivot, pivot and there is no mention of the failures in that department. Fans only mention the return of Mikel,Luiz,Romeo and even Essein but fail to mention that Lampard is a liability in the pivot position. Guys you can't eat your cake and have it at the same time. It is time to move Lampard as a second striker or sit him on the bench. Why should we give teams room to dominate us in midfield bcoz of personal glory?

7 damn hours up and down the A1M on Saturday - our fans sung their hearts out - then we witnessed yet another grand phuck up - cost me two hundred quid (about two seconds wages for Torres) - where's my Chelsea gone?

Chelsea needs to look ahead and realize it is not a walk in the pack but strategize to start winning and convincingly.
