Blues on loan

Blues on loan

The last few seasons we have seen the number of players loaned out seems to be growing almost day by day.

Most of the time it is for players to gain experience at a lower level, reasonable explanation you would say.

However reality shows us that almost all of these (young) players return to the club and can once again play in the under-21 team and in the end are sold or when their contract expires they are released.

Through the years we have been hopeful about players like Scott Sinclair, Michael Mancienne, Fabio Borini or Jeffrey Bruma, but they hardly get a chance to play for the first team.

I can imagine they could be seen as too lightweight for our first team, but what is the reason behind loaning out without any real future at the club.

But if you look at a player like Ryan Bertrand, he is played as a midfielder instead of left back and you can ask, is he the long term solution for Ashley's departure next season or so.

Otherwise Rafa puts Nathan Ake on the bench and has used him just once for 3 minutes of injury time. Give this guy a chance if it is thought he could be a real future blue. My expectation for next he will be loaned out to gain experience.

I think it is time the board takes a serious look at the players on our books and decide what to do with those come summer. Also, just a handful of players will be loaned, for a maximum of half a season and let them return and give them playing time.

For the second half of the season another player will be loaned to the same club in his place. That way both our club and the club the player is loaned to, will be helped. We have a look at all our players and a total of 10 players can gain experience as well.

For the first team there are always youngsters at our disposal waiting in the wings and the under-21 and under-18 teams will have about the same players available for the whole season and can be used in the Next Gen series and can gain that experience.

Finally, is there any team around the globe that has the same number of players loaned out.

I wonder what your thoughts are for this.

I have a theory, but people aren't going to like it. Most of the young players aren't being groomed to play for Chelsea, but to be sold on once they reach a fair resale value. The entire fee can then be offset against the annual wage bill under FFP rules. I can't see any other reason for so many youngsters from around the world being loaned out all around Europe. Miroslav Stoch is a good example. I believe the club got £4 million for him.

How are blues on loan performing?
04/02/2013 17:09:00
Seriously, no manager is ever going to play the youth with the three (Lord of the Rings) in Gourlay, Emenalo and Buck stating out in clear terms that the minimum expectation is a 3rd place finish

As has been said before more than once with the average duration of tenure of a Chelsea manager in the Roman era being less than 1 season and the expectations for trophies and top 4 BPL finish being the same even in so called transition years one can understand why the vast majority of Chelsea managers avoid using the youth players like a plague. The point is ...and some have said this before; rather than just paying lip service to having an academy which we dont in actual fact use, why waste the resources, time and energy..we might as well scrap the entire edifice and just concentrate on trying to do better what we actually are namely a club that buys already complete or nearly complete ready for prime time players. We clearly are not nuturing nor developing anyone..since JT we havent had one academy player of note become anything worthwhile and the vast majority of our youngsters undergo the bulk of their football education at other places rather than Cobham. I say lets cut the Charade and end this farce, save the money and just be honest about what we are and what we are not.

I have no problem withplayers going out on loan but in my definition , the basic idea is that they should many actually do ?
04/02/2013 19:07:00
We keep criticizing the lads blindly that they are not good enough when players like gibbs, gnabry, ramsey are playing for arsenal, sterling, suso, wisdom for pool, weimann and bannan for villa, are we saying all this players are way better than billy clifford, lewis baker, thorgan hazard, kelvin de bruyne, davilla and lukaku? I can't for the life of me think of the reason rafa keeps naming nathan ake on the bench and yet doesn't give him game time, if he makes the bench then he is good enough to play!!! In the castle game, I was expecting rafa to remove betrand and bring in ake to partner rammy in the pivot with lampard going more forward behind the striker the way he wants, the thing he was afraid of is that it might backfire and we'll lose, guess what, we lost!!! So next time the gaffer must grow some balls and use the players he has at his disposal, he should be more of a risk taker, that is what sets mourinho apart from most other coaches

i just dont under our club sometimes, players that will get chance in the first team must be sold , cos there is no need to keep sending them on loan and den at the end dey will be released for, players dat were bought are just being released for free, out of the 25 plus players out on loan, realistically only about 5-10 players will get the chance to wear the blue shirt
04/02/2013 19:59:00
KdB should not be on loan. Courtois Kalas, Bruma, Omerou, PVA, Chalobah, Josh, Thorgan-Kakuta-KDB Lukaku will form a formidable team in the EPL with a manager like Wenger.
04/02/2013 21:09:00
U can scream for the youngsters to get a chance all u want but thats not gonna happen without cfc manager for the safety of his job would afford to play youngsters instead of the experience pros he has at his disposal..and for the guys on loan,i feel sorry for them,a manager sends u on loan and when u return u meet a new manager who knows nothin about..and its startin from the scratch over again
04/02/2013 21:23:00
1. anybody would do a better job than FSW at the moment and 2. anybody but el nino relied on to score and we would be 4 or 5 pts off manure and still in RA's beloved CL. absolutely no doubt about it! of course we have too many players on loan and there's another reason there was little movement in january. there's little point in buying yet more players when so many will return in the summer. kalas,KDB,omeruo, coutois and chalobah will all be future chelsea stars but not under FSW.

Unless the change starts from above
04/02/2013 21:26:00
I think some people here understand the main problem... We all want to see our youngsters, but the reality is that it won't materialize until we put our house in order and attain stability like some have rightly pointed out... We fans also contribute to the problem, we are very impatient with the young lads. Some are already condemning Bertrand...
05/02/2013 02:44:00
Betrand is not played in his position, shows how inept the blimey manager is, doing it again and again with zero return, betrand haven't mastered his LB position yet he is asked to play competitively in a position that is rightfully alien to him
05/02/2013 04:25:00
say what DESMOND?? didn't you defend RDM for doing the same?? *smh
05/02/2013 07:13:00
Some ppl's level of forgetfulness is a genuine cause for concern...
05/02/2013 07:14:00
Well, that is the coach`s problem and definitely not a reason to berate Bertrand the way some of you do. Agreed, he`s played out of position, but that`s the only thing some of u see and keep hammering... I still see the situation as a positive for Bertrand and if you ask the lad I`m sure he will tell you he`s at least happy to get some game time, the position is secondary at the moment. With Cole`s recent fine form and our dire need for wins and experience, it`s going to be tough for Bertrand to get game time. Even when he played as a LB, he`s already getting negative criticisms, playing out of position now creates even more opportunity for people to criticize him negatively, using Rafa as an excuse... I remember fans here screaming that we should sign Luke Shaw, that he`s better than Bertrand, that Bertrand is not ready to deputize or take over from Cole, but almighty Luke Shaw is.... and yet we talk of playing our youths, we are asking for Ake to be played.... Seriously, the fans have a big problem... bipolar syndrome! I remember people here saying Piazon is not ready yet just after one game... and yet we want to see Ake come in to replace, he can play a few minutes and get his own judgement too. Where is the logic in playing Ake in midfield against Sissoko...Even Bertrand is still trying to find his bearing in a difficult moment yet some of us expect young Ake to be thrown into the middle of a hot battle..... haha! that to me is fantasy...fairy tale. This is why after reading some comments above, it was clear some people have an understanding of the situation while others are only having an adventure in Elfland... And like I said earlier, we fans contribute to the problem and are part of the the reason why some of our academy players will never make it to the senior team....
05/02/2013 07:50:00
max tweenie's got a point...we're into the trading of these youngsters and they're not all expected to make it through the first team...
05/02/2013 09:02:00
we have no real policy reguarding our youth we just loan them for somewhere to go most of them dont want to come back most beg to stay for one more season another case of no organisation at the club
05/02/2013 14:42:00
Some fans just cook up stories out of no where no benefit therir skewed reasoning, RDM played betrand in like how many games 2? and why? He used it to curb the forrays of a winger, which winger did betrand curb against castle? Brentford and other low teams we play, some fans are really addle pated along with the coach, to the lies which have been the bane of any constructive argument on VC, where have anybody indicated piazon is not ready? I sincerely wonder how most of u can leave in honesty in ur day to day lives when u can say anything to just get attention, rafa was too weak to take a risk on Ake, and what happened? We lost, so much for being in effland..... lol. Why is it that managers like fergie and arsene play players that are young in some of their games, a fan that has any cell of working brain won't even contest that reasoning, why? Because the muppet lost the game afterall
06/02/2013 05:53:00
Some people are definitely born to complain,u have a structure that doesnt accomodate cfc manager can rely on the youths under the current structure its as simple as that..u are not a chelsea manager,u sit behind your smartphone and dictatin youngsters that should irrespective of results but the managers dont have that luxury, they cant risk results for youth integration..u really have to be in their shoes to realise the magnitude of pressure they feel..are u really comparin us to manure and arsenal??these clubs have laid the foundation in place already, their managers have lasted more than 10yrs each, their job is very secured, there is little or no pressure from the hierachy e.t.c,however in the past few yrs, roman has same vision(appointment of avb, courtin of pep) and is layin the foundation(restructurin of the academy) and in no distant time we would see more of our youth players in cl,epl, fac, coc games(if he discards the 'sack' button for the time bein)
