The last few seasons we have seen the number of players loaned out seems to be growing almost day by day.
Most of the time it is for players to gain experience at a lower level, reasonable explanation you would say.
However reality shows us that almost all of these (young) players return to the club and can once again play in the under-21 team and in the end are sold or when their contract expires they are released.
Through the years we have been hopeful about players like Scott Sinclair, Michael Mancienne, Fabio Borini or Jeffrey Bruma, but they hardly get a chance to play for the first team.
I can imagine they could be seen as too lightweight for our first team, but what is the reason behind loaning out without any real future at the club.
But if you look at a player like Ryan Bertrand, he is played as a midfielder instead of left back and you can ask, is he the long term solution for Ashley's departure next season or so.
Otherwise Rafa puts Nathan Ake on the bench and has used him just once for 3 minutes of injury time. Give this guy a chance if it is thought he could be a real future blue. My expectation for next he will be loaned out to gain experience.
I think it is time the board takes a serious look at the players on our books and decide what to do with those come summer. Also, just a handful of players will be loaned, for a maximum of half a season and let them return and give them playing time.
For the second half of the season another player will be loaned to the same club in his place. That way both our club and the club the player is loaned to, will be helped. We have a look at all our players and a total of 10 players can gain experience as well.
For the first team there are always youngsters at our disposal waiting in the wings and the under-21 and under-18 teams will have about the same players available for the whole season and can be used in the Next Gen series and can gain that experience.
Finally, is there any team around the globe that has the same number of players loaned out.
I wonder what your thoughts are for this.
