It wasn't us!

And so it would appear, if the press has uncovered something akin to the truth, the fixed Champions League match involving an English team wasn`t one involving us.

The tabloids are quite convinced that the match in question was played in 2009 between Liverpool and Debrenco (Hungary).

It`s being inferred that a Singapore based gambling syndicate had approached the Hungarian side with a view to them conceding two goals or more, a ploy that would have landed the syndicate a substantial sum.

As it turns out the game ended in a 1-0 victory to Liverpool, thereby; frustrating the reference syndicate.

The tabloids, this morning, also declare that the English game should be aware that halting this gambling disease is something they`ll struggle to do, with it being rife in some countries.

But, to the untrained and unknowing eye, would you ever suspect something was amiss?

Especially when these bets could be spread over such, almost, trivial maters as:-

• Throw-ins being conceded between certain times!
• Corners being conceded between certain times!

Plus, quite probably, several more you could add to the list. Also, I`ve no doubt that, in the near future, other revelations will be forthcoming that will further sully the integrity of the game we all love, you mark my words!
