Yellow Card Outrage!

Yellow Card Outrage!

Sat mulling over a few things amidst the quietness a midweek international break brings, I`m hoping the two pitch invasion incidents are isolated occurrences.

I`d hate football to return to the days of fences being erected to keep the spectators off of the playing surface, especially those of the electrified variety a certain Ken Bates was fond of!

However, if the idiots can`t be stopped then I suppose you have to stop the idiots.

The latest incident of this type came at the Ricoh Arena, whereby a bare-chested youth decided he`d make an ass of himself and launch a one-man pitch invasion, but it had a strange conclusion.

Obviously annoyed at the intervention one of the Coventry players, Cyrus Christie tried to halt the invader in his tracks by tripping him up only to turn around and see the referee brandishing a yellow card at him!

There are times in football when you think, where has the common sense gone? and this is one of them...i think it was actually an attempt to trip up rather than a successful tripping up that he got booked for....similar to people getting booked for taking their shirts off or going off the pitch when you've been assaulted by an opponent and are struggling to continue. The offender stays on the pitch while the victim has to go to "time out" until the ref waves him back....Clearly common sense isnt that common when it comes to referring a football game these days...not good enough

well said JOHNNY common sense has clearly been overruled by the rather "smart" officials who instruct Referees to act as aloof as possible. It's like not giving cards/fouls for "Rugby interludes" during matches especially against Stoke but then booking a player taking off his shirt to celebrate scoring a crucial goal. It just doesn't make much sense

Obviously this is daft but still, how come it was only a yellow if Hazard got a red for trying to get the ball back from a cheating ball boy? Neither the pitch invader nor the ball boy were players and in both cases, the players used force (with their feet), so what's the difference? Is the FA going to charge Christie because the yellow card was "clearly insufficient" punishment? Paranoid? No, we bloody well are not!
