Keep those fingers crossed that Ashley Cole`s magical night at Wembley, where he finally reached the 100 caps mark, doesn`t hamper our chances, against Wigan this Saturday.

Ashley, who received a great reception form the Wembley crowd, was taken off at half-time with a niggling injury that appeared to come from his hamstring area.

Speaking about what, we hope, was a precautionary measure, Roy Hodgson is quoted in the morning press a shaving remarked,

"I wasn`t intending to take Ashley off at half-time."

"But he was feeling a problem in his hamstring, which may actually be coming from his back."

"He would have soldiered on if it was a qualifier but I didn`t want to send him back to Chelsea injured."


Nice sentiments Roy and one that our under-fire gaffer, Rafa Benitiez , will surely appreciate, but what did Ashley make of the memorable occasion?

Offering a few comments to the media, Ashley is quoted as having remarked,

"I was disappointed to come off but it was a good team performance. When I got out there it was not about me any more, it was playing against a world-class team and getting a win."

"I was emotional at the start. I want to thank the fans as I didn`t expect the reception I got. It was very nice and I`m overwhelmed, speechless."


As somebody who has started in every one of these 100 appearances, Ashley, in our opinion, deserves all the accolades he gets!

Good to see 80% of fans cheering for Ashley as his name was read out,the 20% jeers were most probably from gooner fans. Lol

I pray he is okay by saturday so he can play against the lactiics...... We need all the players to be fit for this final battle of the season, #fingerscrossed

i am beginning to warm more and more to roy hodgeson. very, very thoughtful of him to say that about not sending ash back to us injured. how many international managers would have been so considerate. very well done indeed roy ...and frank... oh and a hearty congrats to ash. well done all round!

I would rather say that ASHLEY COLE IS THE MOST CONSISTENT ENGLISH PLAYER OF THE LAST DECADE. I would still rate Gerard and Lamps ahead of cole. Terry too should be in the top 10 best english players of the last decade as well. Its a shame that his achievements and contribution would never be recognised by the media and the english fans but we the chelsea fans would always appreciate him.

Have to agree with Akamz,probably not the best but most definitely the most consistent,he did drop in form within the last few years,but still puts in a top shift. Did anyone notice his boot. #100notout...Meaning 100 caps but I'm still not done yet.

Like Ash i was surprised and heartened by the warmth and gusto with which most of the Wembley crowd greeted his intro..that was a touch of class on their part. I sincerely hope he is fine for Saturday. Roy Hodgson like Ol Arry and David Moyes is a manager i have always liked and respected. My respect for the man reached new heights when he refused to allow Rio use political chicanery to force his way back into the three Lions squad. Roy is a fair even handed guy and while i dont think the three Lions will be winning the world cup with him at the Helm i think they will qualify with ease and give a good account of themselves the way they did in the last Euros.
