Why Don`t We Change

I went through our line up in recent times and what surprised me the most was our lack of change in formations for different opponents.

First of all I would like to cast our minds back to last season, as we changed our formation towards the end of the season, when Mata was the main man and we had defensive wingers and we were quite defensive which made the formation perfect for that period.

But right now our match against Reading, why could we not use 4-3-3 because at that point the only person that formation suited was Mata as Ramires, Oscar, Lampard, Bertrand were not playing their original roles, because we could have played a midfield 3 of Oscar-Ramires-Lampard and a top 3 of Ba, Mata and Torres ( strikers interchange) or 4-3-1-2.

But now Hazard will be back, Luiz and hopefully Cech and by next week we would have a full squad finally. It will be interesting to see if Rafa would try new things and it is well known that our priority is top 4, so it will be interesting to see if the likes of Mata, Lampard, Ashley Cole, (they have played quite a lot recently) will be rested and let Bertrand and a few others get game time or he goes ahead to win the Europa League and try and win the FA Cup.

Our next two fixtures will go a long way to see how the season goes, also if you take a look at our fixtures we have literally played almost all small teams left, we have a lot of tough games coming up, I hope our form will be excellent by the time that period comes.

Thank u very much sir for this article, I might be called a villain or anything, but I have talked about this stuff for over 2 months now, but since we are not the coach we have to bear it in silence as the rafa I know and see on every game day is not ready to change the formation or the personnel, 4-3-3 have made us immensely sucessful, we have the players that are suited for it now, but it seem rafa is clueless or fearing that it might backfire, but if I was him, I'll try it and it might be the key to save our season after all

I am honestly just tired of complaining. Rafa wont change a thing and you can expect Hazard back on the left for Bertie and thats about it. Talk about ineptitude!!!!

I don't think Rafa knows how to change.

i think Blue1989 has said it all....loool

"Rafa would try new things"...this sentence itself is a big joke in it...rafa has lost the plot the tactical brain which he has bought when he arrived at chelsea has lost somewhere in space or have been eaten by someone...he is genius indeed but of foolish people...the same system no change at all..same player same style...no one complain about loosing the match but if you dont try something different dont make changes at all and then loose then you deserve the criticism...rafa is stuck with his rigid system and he will go nowhere if chelsea somewhat reach top 4 it would be because of players individual brilliance and not of rafa tactical nuance...thats all i can say..

" he is playing the same system with no change at all"...tyoo error...

It seems as its law to play this poxy 4-2-3-1 formation with this poxy double pivot! I'm actually sick and tired of this formation and this double pivot. It seems to be all I talk about and all that's the problem within this team! But again again and again this clueless manager who thinks he is a tactical genius(MWHAHA) plays one 4-2-3-1? Without having one single player who plays really well in the double pivot why oh why does the club and manager seem to keep playing it? 4-3-3 suits every player we have also 4-3-1-2! Even a 5-2-1-2/5-3-1-1! Any of these would work well with our current squad! When hazard was out instead of playing Bertrand LW why not play 3 CB's luiz(sweeper),Cahill, iva then azpi and cole as wing backs? Then ramires and lamps in midfield and mata behind Ba? I would have loved to see this formation and with the fullbacks given a lot more freedom to push forward as they would know they had the 3 centre backs behind them. I'm puzzled to as why we have never tried this 5 at the back with so many quality CB's and in cole and azpi two awesome attacking full backs? And with the 5-2-1-2 you can also have hazard centrally behind mata/Ba with mata playing right off Ba's shoulder. I know I will probably never see a 5-2-1-2 at Chelsea but with the players we have and the defensive problems we seem to have plus width I would love to see it tried at least once! Come on rafa give something else a try?

lets have the same format 4 2 3 1. Cech Azpi iva cahil cole .luiz and oscar in the DM and mata as LW and torres Rw then with the pace and tricky Hazard play as no.10.Demba Ba as stricker, this is strongest and effective team around 4 now.until moses n slow mikael come.

It's not just about changing formation, it's about being proactive during the game when needing a goal or keeping a clean sheet. Making the right changes to ensure these things happen. Instead lets go two nil up at half time, concede at 2-1 then concede again for 2-2 and then make a change on 80th minute. That's it I've cracked it!!
Blue1989
We have all talked about the lack of the right type of player in the pivot for at least a year. I agree rafa lacks the balls required to be creative with an alternate formation. I would love to see a 4-3-3 as I really think this formation best fits the existing players we have. Lampard and ramires in the pivot it just stupid as they can't control the game. Rafa has this sick idea that he must play Lampard every game otherwise Lampard will pull an avb and screw up the locker room. Let's get Oscar in the midfield and let the kid play.
lamarochs
Stop making silly defensive mistakes and we'll win. It's as simple as that.
THEBREEZE
Have harped enough on this to no avail. Wish we could try out a quasi-4'3'3 or any other formation, but ofcos we have manager who has a frozen brain and is not thinking.
Ohans
I agree with @blue1989,its not just changin formation, its about bein proactive during games, rafa can keep playin the 4231 but he just have to adjust formation durin the games and make precise substitutions that would positively influence our games and keep the team the team in perfect shape..when chasin games we can switch to add a man upfront or in the center of the pack(3-4-3 or 3-5-2),then in protectin a lead we can switch to(5-4-1 or flat 4-5-1)...also agree with @thebreeze,we need to stop makin silly mistakes at the back..all these together with our wastefulness upfront has been our Achilles' heel
Ken4CFC
Off topic but our trio of Mikel, Moses and Omeruo are champions of Africa

Manager should understand the players strengths and form the formation based on the players available for selection. 1. Mikel - Effective as DM in double pivot, not as a CDM in 433 2. Ramires - Effective as a BBM in 433, not as DM in double pivot 3. Oscar - Effective as BBM in 433, not as RAM in front 3 4. Mata - Effective as No10, not in wings 5. Hazard - Effective in wings 6. Luiz - Effective as a DLP in double pivot, not as DM in double pivot or 433
