Hail Cesar (or Dave)

Although the summer heralded a spending spree with the likes of Oscar, Hazard and Moses arriving, there are many who are championing the arrival of Cesar Azpilicueta as the bargain buy of our summer.

Azpilicueta, nick-named Dave, cost a mere 8 million from Marseille but his performances, so far this season, indicate that it was money very well spent.

On Saturday, as Wigan threatened to be the latest team to make a comeback, it was Cesar who produced some telling surges, down the right flank, to ensure the three points came our way.

After the game, Cesar gave an insight into life at Stamford Bridge in somewhat trying times, remarking to the media,

"It was the first time I have been involved in so many goals."

"It is a good thing to improve and create goals for the team."

"We always pressure. We know we must win every game."

"The confidence in the squad has dropped a little bit but even when they scored, instead of being scared and dropping back, we had a good reaction."

"We know we have to stay in the top four for the stability of the club."

Something tells me those who have trouble pronouncing his name may soon be chanting it with regularity from the stands at Stamford Bridge.

I think he's made that right back position his since that 1st match. He's been really impressive. His age and willingness to learn and improve is making him a better player and its very obvious in our matches. He's forced Iva back in.

if he is used properly then he will be the best right back in the world in comming years....he is good in defensive but his attacking qualities is also very impresive...

great signing , keep IVA at backup RB/CB til' wallace comes then make him a permanent cb , his size and strength suits the role , Azpi/Wallace-Cahill/Terry/Iva/Luiz-Cole/Bert

I have to admit...at the time of his purchase I didn't believe the purchase for another RB was that high of a priority considering the lack of quality midfielders and goal scoring CF on this team...HOWEVER, I have been extreemly impressed by Cesar's efforts and passion to play...Kudo's to the board for purchasing him as he is really really good....

I dont often say this but this was one signing that the board got dead right (and they dont get many right). I am so glad they got him instead of Douglas Maicon. People can go back and look at the arguments we had on VC regarding who was the better choice. I along with some others said then that Cesar was by far the better choice. With the benefit of hindsight now it is abundantly clear who was by far the better choice. Same thing regarding the Moses vs Hulk signings. Big price tags and past reputations are not always where it is at. With him we have a first team quality RB and Iva is a credible back up and then we have this Brazilian kid Wallace as well..RB position sorted for next 5 or so years at least. Now lets do something similar for our central midfield.

Cesar have been good for us but definately not at his best, if we have a manager that knows how to develop a player he'll be better, I see him getting a shirt to brazil 2014, for 8m he is doing a decent job and can improve, so is moses (9m) and de bruyne (8m) bargain buys, its all about the quality and not the price tag atimes. Kudos to emenalo and the other scout for earning some of their fat salaries.

Great player, I was very impressed with him on Saturday. He's been consistent and has all the attributes to grow even better.

He is my first choice RB at Chelsea but the best right back in the world, take it easy guys, come on get real, lol. He is not a finished article yet, IMO he needs to play with more confidence and should have faith in his ability, what I mean he should take out (that little bit) indecision/hesitation out of his game, like after going pass the player put a first time cross STRAIGHT AWAY. People said we got him on the cheap if Newcastle had bought him he would have cost them 3m to 5m, any player we are linked with his price goes up by 10m.>>>@GabeU: You are talking about sorting the midfielders for the Pivot as we have enough attacking midfielders?>>>Off topic: Just to let you guys know West Brom don't want Lukaku for another season, I guess I don't need to say anything else.

Azpi's been outstanding and deserves to be starting RB, but we need a sub lest we run him down with all the football matches we playing, perhaps alternating with Iva in the FA Cup and a few league games to keep Azpi fresh

We've had a lot of problems at right back and while ivanovic filled in with some distinction it's nice to have a natural one who is pretty damn good

@mq it means big names or price tags dosent mean he is automatic success. he has to show in the pitch and in our case our both under 10m purchases(moses & azpi) showed there are value for every penny we have given.
