'If It's Football, It's Vital'

How the Mighty Have Fallen?

Life is tough at the moment.

In the workplace where I earn my corn, I`m surrounded by supporters of several other clubs, but there does seem to be more Spurs fans than those of other clubs.

And boy do they know how to gloat.

You see, although we`re the reigning Champions of Europe, something they can only dream about, they`re giving me major grief.

They`re not letting go of the fact that our failure to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League has left them able to gloat.

Not a moment passes when they don`t fail to remind that this week, whilst Europe`s finest compete in the last sixteen stage, we`re lumbered with having to play on Thursday night, in the Europa League.

How the mighty have fallen they snidely comment!

And it does grate, there`s no doubt about it. Our failure to qualify has hit us hard, midweek European football will never be the same; it feels as if I`ve lost my right arm.

But, before we get all remorseful, is there salvation at the end of this forlorn tunnel?

Can we actually win the damn thing?

Can we silence those jibes from N17?

But wouldn`t it be a wonderful scenario if the draw kept us apart and we were to meet Spurs, in Amsterdam, in the final?

Bring it on is what I say!

This is what happens when you play lots of midgets/play with no steal in the midfield/have players in the pivot who can't pass the ball FIRST TIME/have one striker (BA) in the sqaud/don't give interim manager any money to sign players as you will get rid of in the summer/No quality back up goal keeper/have only 2 wingers (Moses/Hazard) in the squad as you don't like playing Marin cause he can't defend for toffee.
B2K420
"Midgets" have won two of the last Euros and the World Cup. They will be challenging again next year those migdets.
foreign_viewer
What the team needed was a striker, other than Torres, and playmaker from the beginning of the season.
foreign_viewer
Torres single handedly cost us our UCL downfall and I am sure he'll cause us our UCL qualification if we are not careful. And persist with playing him ahead of Ba
Desmondadonis
it's fine mate , we are one of the most supported clubs in england but we are by far the most hated( maybe millwall but I think we are) in terms of press , i'm surrounded by liverpool and united fans , making me feel like ***** every time we lose considering liverpool is doing crap. the only fans in my school I like are everton and newcastle. They both are un biased and awesome , i have a soft spot for everton cause the fans aren't knob heads like the other side of merseyside
CFCTalal
I would have sworn his goal took you to the final of the UCL trophy last season;at least, I am sure he scored for you, crucially, against Barca.
Naijagunner
i agree with desmond . Torres actually cost us alot . but the manager got the sack. i am probably repeating this but look at the average united team with a world class foward , that is the difference . our team last year with drogba was different . but look at the matches againt juve , shakhtar where he was supposed to step up he did not , if he performed under carlo or avb they both probably would not have gotten the sack . right now we still have him expected ba to be in the line up from day one but no i keep hearing he cant play twice a week because of his knees that he used to play twice a week for newcastle , and he has to rotate with torres now i dont even see ba any longer
Don capon
Bayern,a.c milan,manure have all played in the europa league in seasons past.that did not make them weak,it made them stronger..so chelsea playin EL is not the end of the world,we would be back at the apex of european football pretty soon..KTBFFH
Ken4CFC
Chelsea player wins at Anfield shocker!
CobhamBlue
and lukaku scores...can we please have him back next season please....he is freaking ready...welcome back drogba.
layorh12
and LUKAKU JUST SCORED AT ANFIELD!!! IT ALL WENT DOWN THE HILL WHEN WE GOT TORRES INSTEAD OF FALCAO!!!
Tiraspol
And lukaku scores yet again , sincerely im getting tired of him scoring somewhere else , we should have brought him back , it will be stupid not to use him next season
Don capon
I'm actually beginning to wonder if we really need Falcao. We have scored 100 goals this season! The second highest scorers in Europe, after Barcelona. With Lukaku back, a decent defensive midfield player, an additional - cheaper - centre forward and of course a decent manager we could be challenging for the title again.
CobhamBlue
@cobham blue he will be an upgrade but with the price they are mentioning not to talk to adding courtois to the deal makes it really look stupid at that point . we cam strengthen the whole squad and actually get quality players all round rather than an outrageous amount on him and our keeper should not be let go for any reason
Don capon
at this rate kraken for the young player of the season anybody??...
layorh12
@FV- Spot on.Lmao./ Those midgets are gonna win the UCL again this year if care isnt taken. A midget is arguably the best player in our time at present. Football has evolved,gone are the days of kick and follow.....Now you need a sensible head and good technique amongst other things but being bulky is no longer the top requirement in football. I dont think we can blame Torres that much to be honest......The boy has tried and has failed,we dont have to rub the salt in.....I blame Roman! If we had a proper set up in the club,Torres would have been sold at a cut price by now.
3nity
lukaku's goal...weker right foot finish plus a fantastic first touch and humiliation of agger for the second time in 5 minutes....he is looking like he'll be worth every single penny meen...emenalo again...looking like a good job.
layorh12
****weaker right foot finish...
layorh12
next season, number 1 priority is getting a good manager for the long term... JM/ Hiddink/ Ladraup/ and let him manage the football side of things. Bring in Fellaini, modric/ozil another forward/striker, make lukaku/ba our starting strikers, promote piazon to bench... something of that nature.... Ship off Torres, Malouda, and other (deadwood)... anyways what i'm trying to say is we HAVE TO get our shiiiet finally straight, otherwise we'll be going down the hill even more and at a faster rate!!!
Tiraspol
the following spurs posts gave me a huge satisfaction...I almost laffed my head off....those loosers are green with envy....looooool: 1. Lukakakakakakakaku darkenvai
layorh12
Lukaku was great, I thought that the chance was gone when the ball was played behind him. Fanman
layorh12
Don capon, I agree, the price being talked about is ludicrous for a 27 year old and I seem to remember Diego Forlan was red-hot at A. Madrid and couldn't hit a cow's ass with a banjo at Man Utd. We can't afford another expensive flop. The risk is too great if the fee is anywhere near £50m.
CobhamBlue
Now I really looove this one..loooooooooooooooooool 1.lukaku is a monster, he could be perfect for us, if only chelsea would sell Guernman
layorh12
His touch and finish were top class. Fanman
layorh12
and he is a chelsea reserve........................................... tophobunty LMAO......
layorh12
What impressed me at Anfield tonight is Lukaku's pace. He can really turn it on!
Squig
Lukaku an absolute beast,the chavs have no class lettin him go ghulamville....... Dream on you deluded spurs fan..he'll be back at the bridge soon..shagging and snogging you lot steady!!!
layorh12
guern man we could have bought him before chelsea did, that horse has bolted now.................... tophobunty ooohhhhhhh.....if only wishes were horses....keep wishing!!!..m laffing hard
layorh12
We are having a terrible time as Chelsea fans.We are European Champions, FA Cup holders,third in the league,we are going through hell.
THEBREEZE
naijagunner torres goal DID NOT get us to CL final. we would have gone thru without it on the away goal rule. please get your facts right before commenting on out forum!
trueblue44
I think it would be best if we focus more on a Champions league spot,i sure wouldn't mind letting the Europa League slip away from us by playing fringe players with a mix of youth. Get champions league spot,and build for next season so we can come back stronger.
nelyvanile
It will be nice to win it. I doubt we are ever going to play our best side at these stage of the competition. Man U was in Europa league last season but came back stronger and hungrier. I am sure the board would learnt a lesson or two because good lessons can only be learned the hard way.
jollyheart Torres
Being in the Europa League isn't ideal for several reasons. For one, I'm with nelyvanile in that we need to remain focused on securing a top four spot in the league--that's got to be priority #1. And with the matches being played on a Thursday, that equates to less rest for the squad as the weekend fixtures come around. And then we've got the weird dilemma of wanting to win the Europa League but also being mocked by cynics (many of whom post regularly on this site) who will write off the tournament as a waste of time. Personally, I don't think we'll win it anyway. We're far too inconsistent under Rafa, and there are still several excellent squads in the tournament. If we do win it, it's something to be proud of. But the riddle for Rafa will be how to rotate players and keep them fit and motivated. He's done a terrible job of it thus far, and we're paying for having such a small squad.
RadioactiveD
lets get our youth to shine in europa. We can concentrate on it if we get to the top 8. Till then our sole focus should be league. Forget top 4. The 2nd place is ur for grabs.
Blue India
@blueindia Our depleted youth team are barely competitive playing in the u21 league they are definitely not ready for matches of that intensity and pressure. All it would achieve is a bunch of cfc fans moaning that so and so is not good enough.
Anarchy
Torres cost us Champs League progress?? Utter GARBAGE talk that....where were the goal scoring "steals" like Moses then to provide effective back-up?? Where was "Super Frankie" then since you all allude to his importance in goal scoring?? Where was the "experienced" JT when we were conceding goals we weren't supposed to be conceding?? Where was the "tactical nous" of RDM when, seeing that he's been "forced" to play Torres, to create a formation that offers more back-up (i.e play "Super Frankie" behind Torres to score goals ala Gerard)?? the way some people just warp about, the only good thing you appreciate is that they give valid exhibits of stupidity
@Mq
We all know last season was a miracle that needed sufficient reinforcements to ensure we keep challenging yet most on VC were loudly celebrating us buying "steals" like Moses (who's done almost nothing to help the team especially when goals were needed) players like Marin (the "German Messi" whom we were clearly mugged £6.5Mil from the start)...."Master-strokes" is what the VC "experts" called the signings now you want to point fingers at certain players....LoL...the BIGGEST mistake we made was hiring RDM, compounded with buying players like Marin & Moses who are squad players at best. Had we a "proper" Manager, Ramires wouldn't have played at RW majority of the games masking the NEED of a starting RW (Moses was never going to be an immediate starter for Chelsea, not even for Arsenal or Spurs, even Newcastle of all clubs). Wrong Manager, wrong players bought and now some idiots want to blame Torres?? He's been awful but he's not the sole problem, he's not even half the problem, maybe 30% tops
@Mq
MQ no one so far has exhibited stupidity well thats until you came , torres primary job is to SCORE goals NOT to complete or give assists the team if he scored at least one more goal we might not be where we are now he scored only one goal against the top two oppositions in two legs each and the goal was an error from the keeper that even me i could score .A nd you are bringing this moses topic up again , well i am glad we got him for 9 million instead of hulk and i am sure most fans are too you were craving for because he is actually worth his price tag and he has similar stats with hulk when it comes to performance and his performance in AFCON and he is english and remember he is primarily a winger , Also about lampard he is a midfield , yes he scores but obviously not as much as a striker is "supposed to " and indirectly you are saying where was lampard when we needed goals and you will be one of the first to slate him when he is going foward during a match and you too want this guy out so much and he is waste of space and wages bla bla bla but yet he was linked to teams like utd and juventus . JT played some of those games , yes he was not exceptional but to only call his name when we concede goals is stupid because the back line is made up of 4 players and he is not in the mind of all of them and remember bertrand played at some point with relatively little experience , Lastly RDM he might not have the tactical nous but Mq he is way better than Benitez as far as chelsea is concerned you have such double standards talking about both managers , when we blew leads with RDM he was in imbecile but now its the players we lost to man utd , west brom , and and drew to swansea , your darling benitez you cried for lost to QPR , blew his two goal lead twice , against stupid opposition ( did not count newcastle) and also you have to note that benitez did not change much when he came so i doubt we would have left our group ( which was not as easy as most people thought ) with ur manager in charge and we are further away from the top than when we sacked roberto , he brings up a defender for another when chasing a game and benayoun nearly came on for cahill , notice the trend on things you want for your team usually turn out bad
Don capon
You solely Torres for our Champs League exit DON CAPON then you as deluded as they come lad. No one denies he's been awful, but he being the "sole" reason?? That's foolishness personified
@Mq
And also when we hired Rdm we had limited choices in case you have forgotten , the managers free were capello , ii think hiddink and a few , but he got the job becase he earned a chance to stay for a season by winning champs but rafa did nothing to earn the job he got and yeah it was a miracle and the players did the job but he also contributed to the fact that we won . Mq saying he was a mistake is absurd because i am sure we will be more comfortable on the table than where we are now and we would have won at japan . That price of moses was good im sure if we went for him this summer he would definitely not be 9 million he was never gonna be a starter but if wenger bought him he would be sold fo about 25 million in 2014 to man cityh , you are already slating marin when he has not even gotten a shot at first team because your tactically aware manager benitez prefers to play bertrand for 90 mins on the wings against mediocre opposition when he had a fit marin and half benayoun on the bench also ramires DID NOT play "MOST " games on the wings yes he played some i remember him going back after QPR when roman visited.
Don capon
And i am not sure how much torres is our problem , but what i know is if he scored ONE more goal against important oppositions we "might " not be where we are
Don capon
And point of correction, since the season began I called RDM an imbecile ONCE and that wasn't when we blew a lead, it was when we lost 3nil to Juve, unless you mean at 0-0 we are "leading"
@Mq
@Mq please enough with ur stupid insults for once argue reasonably i said " Torres actually cost us alot " i NEVER said "he was the sole reason "
Don capon
you actually insulted RDM ALOT , then you minimised it for a while when ebverything was rosy then started again later on and i remember when you always said you couldnt wait for him to be sacked and bring in a manager who is tactically aware
Don capon
1) after buying Moses we didn't improve, did we DON?? He may have been cheap, but knowing we needed a RW (as we had Hazard at LW) it was wiser we get a starting RW not a sub who'd been a starter in 3 or so years) so on a needs analysis, Moses didn't fulfill the need we sought. Time will tell about his abilities but at the moment, with the team struggling, Moses has bought nothing worthwhile to the team. He may have played "well" in AFCON but is that what "Chelsea" bought him for, to play well for Nigeria??...2) Marin - Geez, even RDM didn't play him when the season started so blaming Rafa doesn't make much sense. Besides, do you think the 2 Manager's we've had wouldn't play him were he as good as you think??....3) Ramires played almost 80% of football under RDM at RW it was only when Roman "visited" Cobham that RDM moved Ramires to CM, dropped Lamps and started playing Oscar. The first game that happened was vs Juventus, when we drew 2-2. Get your facts right.....4) Torres, as I said, has been largely awful (in goal scoring) but to blame him solely for our Champs League embarrassment is laughable, hence I made the point of naming other players that could individually be singled out as contributing to our Champs League demise, not just Torres...5) Yes RDM had some good results but any1 objective will tell you we were beginning to struggle, we had very little variety (tactical-wise) and after that Juve loss it proved that when it matters RDM was incapable (recall Atletico mauling us 4-1, 3 goals and 2 posts hit in the 1st half alone??) dare I say after that Juve game Man$hitty would've taken us to the cleaners with RDM in charge, it's good he was sacked. And by the way, Rafa has now accumulated more points than RDM
@Mq
How fickle are some fans. I can remember @Mq loving what RDM was doing at the start of the season, he almost condescended into approval of Robbie. RDM made one big mistake and that was effectively showing RA the finger by dropping Torres in a big game. A big gamble and RA returned the gesture by sacking him. It was always going to happen at the first sign that things were not going so well. But FT has been a slow growing cancer in our side and he has to be removed before this team can progress properly. We have a secondary now as well with Tubby. Some serious surgery required.
BlueABS
Having played 2 extra games ;)
@Mq
@Mq conveniently ignores the injuries that players such as Marin, Lampard & Terry have had this season.
BlueABS
First of all i can say we added width and depth and moses was actually improving before he went to AFCON . And how did you expect him to improve our side when he was new rto the squad and at that point we had the massive performances of mazacar , so i dare to say moses actually improved us from last season on the wings . 2) i am not saying marin is the best or whatever he is called but he has not simply been giving a chance that is all , he started against QPR and was clearly trying to impress , he is above U21 , so why does he not get game time ??? no one knows but i am sure he is definitely better at our left wing than bertrand . 3) if you are referring to last season when we had a defensive formation then yes ramires played on the right wing , lets not forget he was actually our best option at that point in time with what we were trying to do . but this season i am sure ramires did not play at right wing for 80 % . You are still saying that RDM was not capable and it annoys me because the ONLY differences i can see from RDM and Benitez is Luiz in midfield and Ba . they literally still do thesame things but the results are poorer for benitez so to say benitez is a tactician and Rdm is not is silly to me as we conceded ***** loads of goals in the league even when benitez came
Don capon

Don capon
LoL BLUEABS they weren't injured the whole time, where they?? JT was at the heart of the defense when we blew a 2 goal lead vs Reading and lost to Newcastle. Lamps was playing in the pivot 4 of the 6 group games in the Champs League and Marin....well....he's been on the bench forever (both under RDM and Rafa) after he healed so injuries have definitely been accounted for
@Mq
And benitez might have more points but lemme cast your mind back to the teams played . RDM had wigan , reading , newcastle , QPr , Stoke , Wolves , Arsenal , Tottenham , Liverpool , Westbrom , norwich , Benitez had Fulham , Mancity , West ham , sunderland , aston villa , norwich , QPR , Southampton , newcaslte , Reading .. now looking at those fixtures i can clearly say the manager who had more points with the first batch is better , we lost points against teams we were supposed to kill off in first half . but you say benitez has more points , he has not played swansea , liverpool , united , nor west brom back in form ( matches that we did not do well under Rdm ) so now that our fixtures are becoming tough let us see where will be in a few weeks and remember benitez has the upper hand as he has one of the most clinical players in england
Don capon
with the way we played small teams with Rdm even if we lost to man city ( 3 points ) with this season records i am sure we would have at least drawn qpr , killed reading and southampton ( 7 points in total ) and we would not have needed a second leg against bredford
Don capon
I am also sure we would have outscored fulham and we would have won the cup in japan
Don capon
1) I been calling for Luiz at CM since the 2nd game he played for us DON (after the Fulham game when he almost cost us a victory with that last minute penalty) so for that 1, I'm 100% supportive....2) Moses added depth no doubt (recall I said he is a sub quality, not starting material) when we bought Moses I said, verbatim, "we need a starting RW who can also be versatile enough to play striker just incase Torr-Mentor flops and Hulk is the only option I can think of right now" and clearly, as we've seen, that was "spot on"....3) Rafa has more experience than RDM but tactically I have my reservations. Nowhere did I say in this article that Rafa is tactically clued-up, I made mention to RDM's tactical inability not Rafa's ability (again, I have my reservations about that)
@Mq
let's just wait till the season ends DON CAPON, then see where RDM goes compared to Rafa. There surely can't be more "idiots" like me (and the Chelsea board) running European clubs that think Rafa is better than RDM otherwise we have to assess Rafa's results vs the teams RDM beat
@Mq
Yes you wanted hulk but MQ at what price? and hulk did not impress me sincerely during the olympics to warrant such amount of money we had FFP , we were gonna let go of an english player ( daniel ) , if we got him we would not be able to think about falcao and the rest , oscar might still be on the bench without knowing he is excellent and moses was never starting material , he is a prospect to be developed and obviously he as gotten better , yes Benitez is WAY ahead with experience , so right now where has that experience gotten us to ? 16 points behind utd and 1 point ahead of tottenham
Don capon
haha well right now i can actually say the board are a complete bunch of idiots footballing wise . we could have avoided most things happening at present had they done thier job properly , and even at the end of the season , if we are not closer to utd than when rdm was sacked ( we didnt win CWC ) i will consider benitez's appointment very stupid and unnecessary
Don capon
whatever happens i am relatively sure if rdm was here we would have finished at least 3rd and the players would play well for their manager
Don capon
And just a thought people always say drogba and the team won us the champions league and it was due to their determination bla bla bla , so would i be allowed to say it was the abnormal , out of this world talent of lionel messi and iniesta and xavi that gave guardiola his own trophies ??? just a thought :)
Don capon
@mq,the hulk ship has long sailed and now we have moses who has justified his pricetag(and even exceedin expectations) not some overhyped,overpaid,overpriced brazilian somewhere in the city of st petersburg stil tryin to find his feet and justify 5mil of the hefty fees paid 4 his services...
Ken4CFC
@don capon,your theory is gabberish,we were already in downward spiral when rdm left,there was no sign of improvement,we kept getin worse week after week..and u seem so sure rdm would have won CWC??remember he also lost the community shield,uefa supercup and CL..am not slatin rdm but the point is we never cant tell what happens in future,it could be better and it could also be worse..
Ken4CFC
1 thing for certain DON we won't be 4points or less closer to ManUre but as KEN said, we were already on a downward path with RDM. We may not have seen the worst under him but certainly the signs that we'd began taking steps towards that were there
@Mq
And we will finish 3rd or better this season :)
@Mq
I am quite sure because we lost community shield and and super cup , but the teams we played werent any random team , the first team was at that point the premier league champions , they still had that confidence in them , and the other team had one of the top 2 human strikers in the world ( van persie being the other and messi not being human ) . yes we were not playing well from united 's game does not mean we were on a downward spiral , we didnt play well in 4 league games and we hit the panic button and that was not even the first time we had our mid november slump. I call what happened under AVB downward spiral not what happened under RDM he was not even given time . lastly i remember against west brom torres was on for 60 minutes and had NO SHOT , i repeat NO SHOT !!!!! then daniel came on . right now not referring to torres nor defending RDm but sincerely torres was not helping the cause ( as we know he was being forced to play him ) and then daniel towards the sack daniel started getting more time , RDM knew the weaknesses he was gonna address some before the end of transfer window
Don capon
My conclusion , sincerely dont think both managers are that bad , just that we have to face it that both of them have very poor working enviroments and having a board like ours did not help the course , i did not thin we were doing so bad under RDM just that the reason we brought in benitez has not been fulfilled . ( whatever reason that is as i have seen no improvement ) that alone makes me disappointed
Don capon
RDM was not supported by the board as they did not initially want him . Benitez is not supported by the fans and when he asked for players his request was rejected yet we did not bring back any of our players on loan . Now klopp has come out to say he is not going to come to the bridge , pep has a job , that has reduced our candidate list remarkably just jose , pelligrini and spalletti and maybe bielsa ( did not get their names correct ) and i am not even sure if they would want to come and then get sacked between November and march
Don capon
Another thing also bothering me is the rubbish i am seeing online about our players taking europa league seriously .. clearly there are more determined teams than us , that aside we better concentrate on top 4 than a mere cup trophy we can make up for in future
Don capon
We should concentrate on the Europa League, as this is the only chance to win this trophy...Bcos, I dont chelsea to play in this competition in the future...Being here, win it and move on....
Blu_run
Come Summer, we need only 3 things...1. A Manager who can infuse our youth players gradually into the first team, and at the same time, keep us competitive. 2. A Striker (not more than 25m value, who can convert atleast 30% chances he gets...he will end up 25+ goals next season)...and the last one is a DLP...
Blu_run
@don capon,we also lost the CWC to a team that is the reignin copa libertoderes champions,corinthians were no random team,they were high on confidence coming to the encounter boastin by their astute defensive performance and ability to punish opponents with half a chance,they had a compact team that defended as unit and also attacked as a team.am certain the underdog tag and the magnitude of support they got from their fans equally aided their quest..the united game was our 9th game and from then on we faced the same scenerio we faced last season from our 9th game at QPR,the board panicked and changed manager with the aim of improvin results but unfortunately that hasnt happened due certain circumstances..finally,i totally agree with your conclusion,the poor working environment did/has not helped the course of both managers
Ken4CFC
@don capon,our options are really very slim and i dont see why(except the pay off) any right thinkin manager would leave his well assured job,to come here and take up one when he would be sacked in less than 5months..and for EL,i had wanted us to take it serious but looking at the circumstances right now,we dont need that distraction.our focus should be our #1 priority which is top4,we can only consider it when we are seein ourselves in the semis or when we have get a huge breathin space from the chasin packs in the league.
Ken4CFC
I'll reiterate what radio and a host of other fans have said about u @mq, u are an absolute waste of space in here, all the rubbish u typed up there just shows u need to see a psychiatrist soonest, torres single handedly ruin our season and that is the truth if u doubt it go watch all our important games and count the amount of sitters he missed, if u can't get that read the match day threads again, our first match against juve, how many goals did he score out of the 3 chances per game he gets? Against juve away how many did he score? Against nordjaelland away how many goals did he score? Against shakter at home he scored a fortuitous goal (a goal is a goal), factoring this games, with the chances created, let's say a clinical striker will score atleast a goal per game (with the chances created) add one goal each to this games and do the maths if u really earned any degree, not counting what he caused us in the league, now add the fact that we'll be sailing and soaring high if roman and the board have given rdm what he wanted in falcao and not ask him to persist with torres, if ur brain fuse have not gotten blown over. Where do u think we'll be? And factor the fact that moses who u malign so much gave us a chance to redeem ourselves by scoring a drogba esque winning goal at home to shakter, if torres performed well in that game and the league games, surely we would have qualified. No this sonny, either u like it or not, moses is in chelsea to stay and he'll mature game by game, and either u like it or not he is worth more than 9m by now
Desmondadonis
@don capon, I blame emenalo for this mess, but I understand his thinking for convincing roman to sign this sheit manager, rafa has the experience truly, but his tactical nous is inept, staying in his house for 2 years without having any credible suitors even rdm is being linked with decent top clubs, this is a manger touted as an upgrade to rdm, but unfortunately he is now a downgrade, what irks me now is that he is given a better striker yet his ego is still pushing him to play torres irrespective of what my beloved club is suffering, he is gloryhunting at the detriment of my club and I don't see it stopping anytime soon, one other thing I'll make clear with what I have seen of rafa is that he doesn't have a single passion for the club, he is just here as a mercenary, he sees chelsea as a stepping stone to get attention. No wonder he has so many followers.
Desmondadonis
Apart from his bias of choosing a starting striker, his rotation policy is shiet, his formation rigid, his substitutions are always ineffective, he is just totally clueless.. His last game against wigan shows he'll be sailing on the same boat till the end of the season, if not for lampard who manned up to score the goal that relieved us off wigans surgings, we'll at most have drawn that game, but conveniently his followers will say his subs did the trick when it was evident that we were getting apoplectic if not for lamps timely goal.
Desmondadonis
Desmond get over it,rafa should get as much credit as the players get..when we lost/drew u blame him solely and now we won u are given only the players credit..is it so difficult to say 'welldone' and 'keep it up'??
Ken4CFC
In the last 9 games , torres has not scored and he has only 19 shots !!!! incredible if you ask me and hope roman has given up , HOPE
Don capon
Lols, @ken, I won't ever say well done until he impresses me, right now he doesn't.. He didn't do anything of note in the wigan game and if there is a poll on it, I am sure majority of the fans won't see his input either. So I don't blindly follow someone until that person have shown his worth, rafa have not shown any quality since 2013
Desmondadonis
@desmond,i admit he doesnt do much on the pitch but that leaked dossier on wigan strengths and weaknesses showed that he and his coachin do more work behind the scene than meets the eye..readin through that report,u would see the analysis on wigan was 98% spot on and we took advantage of their weaknesses as all our goals were well detailed in the match tactics,and even their goal was detailed their too as the boys were warned of the threat posed by mcarthur and maloney(we slipped and the combination punished us for that)..thats why i feel if the players had sticked to gameplans,been disciplined and make less individual errors we would have been better than where we are today..am not askin u to blindly follow him,all am sayin is as much as u pick out negatives its not gonna hurt either if u applaud the positives
Ken4CFC
The authentic(well detailed) version of the tactics from dailymail is unavailable now but here it is http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2276641/chelsea-scouting-report-wigan-match-revealed.html.....here is another link that summarise the dossier http://www.chelseatrueblue.com/2013/02/chelsea-scouting-report-of-wigan-exposed.html
Ken4CFC
SPUDS...I would rather eat sheit than be amongst those scum...thy know that they're glorified bottom dwellers...but what goes up must come down, and what is down will surely rise again...but what I hate is disrespecting RDM by some here...he's gone, he's done us countless solids and I wish him well...the FSW ( I call him that because he called me plastic and has yet to apologize) is our coach...we can only hope for consistency which he has yet to exhibit in his career...I wish him the best too coz that'll be good for us...would I be happy if he was fired...Yes...am I happy when he wins...YES...but to disrespect RDM who...you know what feck it...argue with a fool and a wise man walks past he will see two fools talking...
Gian-Franco/Luca
keep blaming Torres solely DESMOND if that's makes you sleep at night. He may have been/still is aweful but blaming him and him alone for our mess speaks VOLUMES about your perception...
@Mq
Which top club did RDM is linked with???Schalke??? I am not discussing that...leave it...Anyway, I think Rafa if not a upgrade from RDM, is definitely not a downgrade. We were struggling against strong teams when RDM was the manager. We are still struggling with Rafa at the realm. All I want at this stage of the season is that we somewhat scrap thro to get the Top 3 finish. Get a manager who have a long term vision (Not JM)
Blu_run
What rafa did with that report is not tactical nous, I won't applaud him for it, I'll applaud the brilliant man (whatishisname) who was detailed, this stuff u posted just shows us that rafa is truly inept, because I am sure this same man gave him the same thing against qpr, southampton, reading and newcastle, but rafa didn't effect adequate changes or do anything write to curtail their strength and exploit their weaknesses, which further asserted my assumptions that the brilliance of lamps 3rd goal made us win that game and didn't let us get heartbroken. That is how I see it
Desmondadonis
@mq, perception? Do u even know the meaning of perception? Speak what u know of and use words that u know so little about just for the sake of it. The 15 year old fans here know that our lack of quality striker is the sole reason for our slump, after that then teams were bold enough to take the game to us, hence our weaknesses were further exploited, if u know what u are talking about u'll understand that the fear of barca's forward and man utd forwards make other teams wary of attacking them rashly as they do to us, because they know that they can deal with our striker with a single averafe defender
Desmondadonis

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2277368/Rafael-Benitez-says-change-Chelsea-fans-opinion-him.html this guy is a big joke.....
shlok27
@desmond,his name is xavi valero he is incharge of scouting opposition teams and handin his reports to the rafa to execute his match tactics which rafa apparently did,like i said earlier all our goals including lampard 3rd goal were detailed in the tactics,1st goal ramires speed-wigan defenders slow,2nd goal azpi's cutback-figuerao a suspect at the back(too much attackin,leaves a hectre of space at the back),3rd goal lampard-caldwel and sharner slow to turn/block(whip the ball at the edge of the box and make those late runs),4th goal marin-defenders slow to react on rebounds...we also had a plethora of chances but we were either wasteful or alhabsi's heroics kept us out...the tactics also includin keepin mcarthur and maloney quiet for the game as they were mapped out as the main threats but we failed at that as they combined to get a goal with just a chance,now back to the qpr,s/thampton,swansea,readin games we definitely had gameplans,but like the wigan goal there are always lapses either from individual errors or group which has cost us dearly in those games..if the players had sticked to the gameplans and remained discipline our standings would definitely have improved by now.
Ken4CFC
Comparing Rafa to RDM is ludicrous...if we want to say that RDM was lucky then it should follow that anything good that happens is luck not skill or anything under our control... I am a firm believer in Ocaam's Razor...those that know will know what I mean, those that don't I am too old to be explaining things.. suffice it to say that an assertion of luck does not fall within my frame of reference as luck cannot be quantified, but that is not to say that it should be disregarded...for instance it was lucky (as it was not within the realms of control by any at CFC) for us not to be level when the ball struck Ashley's arm in the penalty box...any other ref might have given it...but it was not lucky (as there was an element of control) for Cech to save Robben's penalty...further too that I do not attribute luck to the failings of an opponent, hitting the post is not being unlucky...it is being inaccurate...same as missing a penalty...The point of all this is the extraordinary events leading up to May 20 2012 required an extraordinary effort on the parts of many, one of them being RDM, so say what you want or will...but do not think you can be akin to the thought police (as you lack the intellect) and try to rewrite history simply to take from a man what is rightly his...and the glory of that night was RDM's...if it was not, then it should follow that none of us should have celebrated as we're all lucky first to be cfc fans...then to have had lady luck smiling on us (but sometimes slapping us in the face coz if everything is luck then JT sending off was 'unlucky'...so was the conceded penalty) all the way to the UCL bank...RDM has been managing since what 2008...Rafa has like a decade on him and Rafa only has like what two more major trophies more than him...so there can bee no comparison...talk to me in a decade as I have faith in our Swiss Italian...
Gian-Franco/Luca
Like i said b4,as much as we blame the coach for losses,the players also have their fair share of blame and as much as we applaud the players for victory,the coach also deserves his own fair share of plaudits
Ken4CFC
Every club has a dossier on oppositon players, not just Benitez. The incredible thing is how it actually got into the reporters hands and why. Was it simply Benitez being smug after the 4-1 flattering win against Wigan. All we can hope for, is that somehow we squeeze into the top 4 at the end of the season and then the club can re-group and get a decent manager in. Jose is my shout, because even if he stays for only 2 or 3 years, he will once again put down the foundations for success and implement the winning mentaity and make me proud to be Chelsea once again.
Blueheart9
@blueheart9,we have a mole in our camp we keeps givin out secret infos to the media,how does neil ashton and dan levene know every indoor happenings at cobham even b4 some CFC employees??
Ken4CFC
@blueheart9, lols....I won't put that on rafa, though with his personality it is something he can do, but we know the mole was there before he came to us, ur point on opposition scouting is spot on, every coach or club have their own, as for ken's analysis of it being due to rafa's tactical nous that we won 4-1, I will see for myself in the next 10 games or at the end of the season
Desmondadonis
Oops**'Who keeps' not 'we keeps'
Ken4CFC
rafa has not shown anything close to being tactically sound since he resumed at chelsea....what he has shown is a series of tactical disasters! and string of inconsistencies.
layorh12
Damn the typos* sorry guys.... Multiple tasks and still chatting football... Sighs*
Desmondadonis
@des,u are getin it slightly wrong,am not sayin its his tactical nous alone that won us the game,ofcos the technical crew and players did their part in ensurin we end the day victorious..if everyone can continue playin their part well continuously then we are in for a thrilling end of season...tactics is rubbish if players dont work towards it,one mistake from an individual can send the whole plan crashin,so hands has to be on deck,we make less mistakes,take our chances and stick to the gameplan..the victory is not for rafa alone but for every connected to CFC
Ken4CFC
When a Manager see's his striker is not scoring but seems capable at assisting, with no other striking alternatives, he innovates because winning is more important than an individual player not scoring. Del Bosque played striker-less and still won, ensuring entertainment wasn't abandoned altogether (although it seemed to be getting monotonous) yet we have/had a Manager that could see his striker is not scoring but assisting and creating chances for other players, why would he not use that to his advantage by instructing his attacking mids to push more for goals??.....Yet you want to blame the player instead *smh
@Mq
How the "mighty" have fallen indeed....http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2277129/Jose-Mourinho-struggling-Real-Madrid-ahead-Manchester-United-match.html#axzz2KZKjGptd
@Mq
@Desmondadonis and Ken4CFC you`re probably right, we have gote a mole in the camp. Maybe we should play him up front rather than Torres on Sunday, or instead of Turnbull the next time Cech is injured !
Blueheart9
That night, a heavy challenge by Marcelo on Cesc Fabregas had caused a mass brawl to erupt, with players such as Iker Casillas and Xavi Hernandez, who normally tend to avoid such confrontations, heavily involved. That night is also remembered for Mourinho’s now infamous finger in the eye of then Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova. For many, it was an act that brought shame upon Real Madrid as an institution. Casillas, their captain, decided to act. The following day, Casillas called Xavi to apologise for the ordeal. The two are close friends, and largely responsible for the lack of infighting between the large Barcelona and Real Madrid contingents that make up the most successful Spanish national side ever. Xavi’s father, Joaquim Hernandez, later revealed that Mourinho took offence to the Madrid captain’s attempt to broker a peace deal, seeing it as a personal betrayal. Since then, Casillas has had his card marked. With war firmly declared on Madrid’s captain, the next natural step for Mourinho was to do the same with his deputy. The tipping point in the relationship between Sergio Ramos and his manager also occurred after a Clasico encounter, this time in January 2012. With Madrid 1-0 up, Carles Puyol escaped his marker to head home from a corner, the equaliser in an eventual Barcelona victory. A few days later, Mourinho berated Ramos, who he had specifically asked to mark Puyol. Ramos had instead switched marker in order to track the taller Gerard Pique, who he believed was causing problems for the Madrid defence. When Mourinho grilled the defender as to why he had made the decision, Ramos replied that he wouldn’t understand, because he had ‘never been a footballer’.......http://www.talksport.co.uk/magazine/features/130208/burnout-bernabeu-story-jose-mourinhos-real-madrid-meltdown-191246#ixzz2KgjNd1Lv
@Mq
@mq,this is chelsea and not spain,we had no iniesta,xavi,silva neither do we have fabregas
Ken4CFC
....With Casillas now out of action for the foreseeable future, the chances of a United win have increased significantly. The keeper fractured his thumb in a cup tie against Valencia, ruling him out for up to three months; as a result, former Real Madrid reserve keeper Diego Lopez has been drafted in as an emergency replacement. If anybody truly believed the Portuguese coach when he said he had benched Casillas because he thought Adan was a better option, they certainly won’t now. So highly does Mourinho rate Adan, in fact, that he took only a day after learning of Casillas’ injury before signing a replacement....
@Mq
Mata can score goals, so too Oscar, Hazard and lately Ramires. Play TorrMented1 as CAM mainly to distract defense, then instruct Hazard, Mata and Oscar to change occupation of the #9 slot plenty times during the match KEN we'll potentially get more goals then
@Mq
@mq torres as false #9 in CAM? lmaoooooo the guy can't control a football/dribble to save his life.
blus4eva
I AGREE WITH DESMOND AND DON, MQ mate you must be one of these guys that votes for torres on these polls every week
Bain^DoggZ
SERIOUSLY SHUT UP ABOUT TORRES
Bain^DoggZ
VERY SOON i hope that torres just goes home and that we NEVER speak of him again
Bain^DoggZ
Just because you can "score goals" doesn't mean you can play as a striker!Asking mata, hazard, oscar to play upfront would be suicide. For the same reason we've never once seen Lampard play upfront ; except it would be worse with them 3. To play upfront you've gotta have more than being able to finish, you've got to be able to hold the ball up, lead the line, challenging for headers, harrying the defenders etc etc. You play your best player in his best position, which is in midfield for those 3.
CalculatedKalou
Here i was thinking the front page was getting better. Complete utter garbage reasoning...First and foremost,there's a huge difference between a slump in form and a downward spiral. I can detail analysis of Robbie's 4 games in the league against Man utd(H),Swansea(A),Liverpool(H) and West Brom(A). Keep in mind we went on a 4 game wining streak against Stoke(H),Arsenal(A),Norwich(H),Totenham(A)...but i won't bother wasting my time. Robbie is gone and as much as I feel it was stupid and an awful decision from our board,there's nothing we can do to change what's done. What irks me the most is when a 12 year old lad is trying to talk tactics and analyze football like a kid from daycare,and hoping matured minded people on this forum will tow his stupid line of reasoning.
nelyvanile
Not as a striker CALCULATED but playing in a goal scoring position. Notice I said alternate, because evidently we had a striker who couldn't score and being me, I can't sit back arms folded without trying alternatives. Torres has created more chances than he's scored, and yes BLUS4 he's dribbled sometimes to create chances he either fluffs or passes to some1 else so it could've worked had it been tried. You can't give up without trying, that's just wrong on so many fronts
@Mq
If path1 don't make it, create or take path 2. You can't not try something
@Mq
@Mq. I think you need to put off that play station and realize this is real life not some game where you just alternate players out of position.
nelyvanile
Picture it this way, 4-2-3-1 formation....Attacking mid 3 of Hazard, Oscar Mata forward being Torres. During the game, Torres drops to Mata's position (RW seems to be his favored lately) Mata moves to "#9" for about 5 or so minutes (like the goal he scored vs Reading from a Torres assist) then he alternates with Hazard for 5 minutes (or so) who, also alternates with Oscar. 1) This creates confusion in the opposition because, if they are man-marking then they can't do so effectively without sacrificing positional marking, creating spaces for any midfielder to have shots @ goal 2) This negates the "need" of the players constantly seeking a #9 but rather renders them independent to take more chances at goal thus increasing our goal threat 3) This also ensures the overall "balance" of the team is maintained as each position is still accounted for 4) This ensures that pressure is certainly off Torres' (he's failed to deal with pressure) thus ensuring he still contributes to the team (albeit in assisting not scoring, which is what he's been doing) effectively 5) This ensures we still have 11 players in the team playing, as we've seen what happens when he sticks to playing #9..............................Bear in mind that these suggestions were made in reference to the time RDM was in charge and Sturridge was "injured"
@Mq
If you have no sense of innovation NELY don't assume we all don't have 1....I'll never sit back and give up without trying, or persist with the same procedure that's proven ineffective over and over again
@Mq
@mq, seriously ur IQ is dwindling by the moment and if u don't take a break and try to rest ur brain, u'll implode, how are u comparing a spain team that have been together for over five years to chelsea's? Menton a sngle team that plays the false 9. Gosh u are so thick a razor won't cut u, compare ur debate with kens and johnny, latunvic fans that I don't agree with most of the time, but they surely don't make comments lke this. Jesus, u need to shake ur head more so the cobwebs can clear from ur brain. Lordy! A striker should assist because he can't score and the coach should play to his assisting strengths. My gawd!
Desmondadonis
All i see when reading Mq post are Bla bla bla guardiola is the best trainer bla bla bla Lampard got avb sacked bla bla bla rdm is clueless bla bla bla Torres.
Lakupiippu
That dossier on Wigan that you are talking about ,which was printed in the daily mail is a hoax . It has been taken offline . Whoever wrote it up has probably been paid a few quid by the DM !!!! Haha Classic !!!!
ZolaIsALegend
Do we actually have to put up with one certain individual on this site, that is constantly upsetting others by deliberately posting agitating comments just for the fun of it ? He/She is just ruining this site for everyone else, who want to share opinions about the club we love, not getting involved in slanging matches. Maybe the individuals who oversee VC should show people like Mq a yellow card, swiftly followed by a red, which would ultimately ban the people who just use this site as a wind up.
Blueheart9
Zolaisalegend,u might be right its a hoax,but if its not,u know the negative implication of that dossier leaking to the media and remainin online?it means wigans' season is doomed,as every opposition would use it as a blueprint to kill them off,that is a spot on assessment of their strengths and weaknesses..
Ken4CFC
@Blueheart9 - Spot on!!!!
BlueABS
What about path 3 - just get rid of Torres
BlueABS
@ken . It would be another disaster for us if it was a leaked document ,you'd really wanna know who is leaking this stuff to the press but I reckon it was wrote up after the game ,thats why it was eerily spot on ! It proves what a filthy rag the DM is ,they had inserted the way Rafa was explaining it to the team and this and that when really they made the whole story up to make the dossier more believable , they really are filth !
ZolaIsALegend

ZolaIsALegend
PS. If i was lookin for a mole i'd look no farther than Florent Malouda ....
ZolaIsALegend
Zolaislegend,Haha malouda??have forgoten he is still our player..really tough stuff,those guys are indeed filth,made it look practically spot on..with that assessment,wigan would be headin 4 the championship at the end of the season.
Ken4CFC
Funny all who disagreed with my reasoning did so with insults instead of adequate, well thought of and "reasonable" responses. Speaks VOLUMES about mental-capabilities :)
@Mq
it's so much easier to criticize than to offer a reasonable alternative
@Mq
@mq then what kind of role did torres play till now. he was playing like false 9 and because of which we didnt have a target man in the penalty box and we are struggling to find a goal against a team that park the bus. torres has improved his heading and holding up but still he is not what drogba did or he is not bringing what BA would bring to us. we have goal scorers but what we need a striker like BA who pull defenders away so that plyers like mata, hazard , moses and oscar can socre goal. with the development of lukaku is more faster than i exprected i think its better we dont buy any striker in this summer as we have 3 stikers and what we need a midfielder like modric, banega or benat.
arun.superstar18
We haven't really "struggled" to get goals ARUN it's a case of us conceding late goals thus not winning matches. We've scored 16 goals in our last 6 matches, that's almost 3goals/match. Infact we've only gone 4 games without scoring all season, 3 under Rafa (QPR 0-1 loss, 0-0 with Man$hitty and 0-0 with Fulham) and 1 under RDM (0-0 with QPR) we the 2nd highest goal scorers with 55 league goals (7 less than ManUre) even Man$hitty with all their strikers have scored less than we have (7 less) so goal scoring isn't as much a problem as is defending
@Mq
As much as Torres wasn't scoring much, he was creating chances/spaces for others to score and who knows, perhaps my "rotation" strategy would've worked after all
@Mq
When someone looks at money more than his career, we need to see the back of this guy Malouda and fast
Kendemsblue
@mq when we have these much creative players hw much support u need from torres in assist. he has to be in the penalty box. torres has weakness which is his movement. if u see BA and compare torres u can see the difference.even though we are not depended on one player but some times strikers make big difference. the reason why ManU in first and we are 3rd is an example. they have efficient striker who always rescues when it required but same is not happening with torres. if u look RVP he scores and assists but in our case torres is not producing consistently or when we required where as ManU can count on RVP any time they are in truoble.
