A New Keeper Target?

A New Keeper Target?

Having missed out on signing Birmingham City`s promising young keeper, Jack Butland, are Chelsea still in the hunt for a decent back-up for Petr Cech next season?

Well if you believe the red-top British press then the answer is a definitive yes!

Apparently, Chelsea are now keen to entice the twenty-three year old Reading keeper Alex McCarthy to Stamford Bridge.

Although McCarthy`s season has been rudely interrupted by a shoulder injury that has since required surgery and ruled him out for the season his performances after taking over the keepers` shirt from Adam Federici must have impressed the Chelsea scouting network.

It remains to be seen if a deal does materialize in the summer transfer window or whether it is all just tabloid gossip.

i dont know much about him...i hope he is not another Turn-bull, we seriously need a decent back up golie or golies...I wonder on wat basis Turn-bull was signed in the first place...not a good recuitment at all...

We should not consider selling thibaut courtois at all, this stuff of buying a keeper we didn't raise eye brows about in the league is akin to the club agreeing to sell courtois in a stupid deal for a 50-50 sucess or doom story called falcao in the EPL. Iif we can't get falcao sure schurlle, lewandowski, cavani or jovetiic can do a decent job too along with ba and probably lukaku.
14/02/2013 16:56:00
@Desmond...sadly, I have a terrible feeling about courtouis...i do hope my fears have no basis. after Sheva and Torres, cant Roman learn?...I will continue to hope the rumour is not true.
14/02/2013 17:00:00
stupid rumor...just bring courtious back and play him in first team...let chech be as our backup chech in big match and courtious in rest of the match...chech is injury prone and he is no.longer agile and quick....
14/02/2013 17:02:00
I honestly fear that we are gonna end up selling Courtois. He's quite happy playing for athletico, the fans love him. If he hands in a transfer request, we're in trouble... Barca are already looking at him to replace Valdes... Cech has a lot to offer... Don't know where this'll end up...
14/02/2013 17:05:00
The way Courtois explains how every two or three weeks chelsea send a scout to report on his progress,I severely doubt that he will be a part of a potential Falcao deal. Chelsea do not have financial problems to make a fuss about 10 or 15 million pounds more. We would rather use Torres,as he has not proven his worth even under the coach which turned him into a well-known name. It is definitely going to be an interesting summer.
14/02/2013 17:58:00
Disagree with you Shlok, Cech is still a beast between the sticks and still rate him as one of the best around.
14/02/2013 22:42:00
If we are really serious about a backup keeper, shay given or wayne hennessey is not a bad shout.atleast they would do a better job than turnbull and hilario combined..
14/02/2013 22:58:00
@Ken, I agree with you on that one...wayne hennessey especially...and i dont think he is too old...given is a good keeper but quite old now....most decent golies will be an upgrade over turn-basket if I am to be honest..
14/02/2013 23:02:00
I think one thing is for sure, we cant really have courtois and cech competing for the same spot which is why we are looking for a new guy. Both Courtois and Cech are wasted if benched. Give Courtois one more loan season perhaps and bring in a new no. 2?
15/02/2013 01:25:00
Our Keen iintent to buy a new Goalkeeper makes me doubt if Courtosis will be at At.Madrid for 3rd season (on loan for sure)...If he is there, it will be good for him to get CL experience...Before letting him to stay, we should ask him to sign a extension though...
15/02/2013 05:23:00
@layorh,we can get the best part of 2 or 3 yrs from shay given,he would be more comfortable to sit on our bench than villas' and he would do a far better job than turnbul when called for hennessey,he is a very good goalie that deserves more than wolves,he was one of the few bright spots in their torrid campaign last season, makin very vital saves to keep his side in games.wolves relegation fate was sealed the very day he got injured a few games to the end of the season...however i hope the board consider this options or better stil just as u said, get us a decent goalie that would be an upgrade over turn-basket..
15/02/2013 06:20:00
0 not saying that chech is not good at al..he is th best no doubt abut it...but he isno longerhe chech he sed to be...he is injury prone nowadays and now he has no longer has the agile momentt he had before...thts why it would be more sense in giving courtious to play n fist team while chech plays in big match...courtious has to be in first team next season.
15/02/2013 08:05:00
But though, I feel CL experience at Ath.Mad will help TC, I think EPL experience is more important for him
15/02/2013 10:38:00
Curtois might not be coming back. News floating aroind town is that Chelsea had already agreed to let him stay back in Athletico on a long term as a part deal for Falcao.. I learnt that the deal has been done since December...A reason we are looking for a goalkeeper right now..
