'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Thoughts of Rafa - West Brom (h)

After engineering the narrow win against West Bromwich Albion, Rafa Benitez faced the press in his post-match press conference.

Speaking about the team`s display, the under-fire Spaniard had this to say,

"I`m pleased with the team`s display."

"We were in control for 75 minutes, their keeper was man of the match, we had a lot of attempts, good football, the atmosphere was good."

"And I was pleased with the fans getting behind the team, and the players played with more confidence. It was clear it was positive. They were behind the team and we were playing good."

As for the visual and vocal protests aimed towards him, Rafa simply added,

"The main thing was they were behind the team. I was thinking about Demba scoring (not the Mourinho chanting)."

And as for the rest of the season and the performance,

"Where are we now? We`re in a press conference after a game we`ve won with a lot of good football and confidence, let`s enjoy it."

"I said the fans, today, were behind the team, positive, the atmosphere was really good."

"Today, everybody was happy, the players were playing good football."

"We created chances to score more and kill the game but we still defended well, a clean sheet and it`s a good win."

"We`ve got three points to get into a good position in the table. We`ve still got 10 games to play, in a long race, and we`re in a good position. We still feel we can do well."

And his future,

"It`s the same situation. I`ve a contract until the end of the season, that`s it."

"What I`ve decided, I`ll keep working hard. This is the way."

"I`ve passion for football, I like preparing the game and enjoy it. My job, as a boss, is to win games. That`s why I enjoyed today`s match."

But the big question remains is - how many more will he get the chance to enjoy?

Dear mr rafa, as a chelsea fan who have witnessed some immense and beautiful football since 1993, I won't call our game beautiful, I still see our passes disjointed, I still see our attackers not fnding the striker, u can do more at that end and perhaps we'll beat the big teams when they come to ay us hopefully, happy sunday to u guys.

Play***.... We need to be more clinical in goal, and oscar has a good eye for goal, he'll be a good player for cfc, if he gets a manager that can improve him, we have about 3 ballon do'or candidates within our team now.

We win and the atmosphere was good? Haha...Oh shut up Rafa. It wasn't as bad as we thought it would be after your stupid rants but it obviously wasn't a positive atmosphere. I don't know if this man thinks we are stupid.

He'll never accept the blame, since he won today, he'll say the atmosphere was good, I just hope we don't lose any other match till the end of the season, I dread to think what he'll say at that time

Moron! The fans have ALWAYS been behind the team and it was no different on Saturday. Yet somehow, even after another poor performance, very similar to those against Reading, Southampton, QPR, Swansea, Fulham, West Ham etc. Rafa tries to take the 'credit' by saying we played better and all because of the better atmosphere, just like he said. He is pathetic!
