Cut-Price Torres

Our friends over at the Daily Express have run an article relating to Fernando Torres this morning.

The article goes on to infer that Chelsea are ready to part company with Fernando Torres and that he club are prepared to sell the Spaniard this summer.

The articles goes on to say that Chelsea would be prepared to off-load Torres for the sum of £15 million, just two years after splashing out £50 million on the player.

My problem is - I can`t see anyone willing to cough up £15 million for the Spaniard, can you?

If no one pays up then Roman needs to cancel the contract making torres a free agent, a suitable compensation for him should be negotiated. There is no point keeping him here running down his contract which for some reason Chelsea board have let several players do in recent times.

The only real hope I have is that the club can negotiate some kind of a deal where we get falcao in exchange for tores plus a considerable amount of cash

He's worth more than that. But a player swap deal could help us more than a straight sale. Alan!
djdutts
Will be good if it can truly happen... a player swap plus money for any decent CF will also be good, they should just do something about him....
Latunvic
15m would tempt me to buy him if I had the money to buy him though! But if he does go, thank you for that goal against Barca!
Seabourch
I'm speechless nowadays when it comes to Torres, everything that can be said, either as encouragement or as criticism, has been said by just about everyone on this site. Starting to believe my own recent suggestion that he's cursed, after all how else do you explain it?
analooish
torres should not be sold fo rthat amount no point , i think he should be added in a player swap deal that will be more profitable for us
Don capon
If no one is willing to pay £15m then I agree RA should cancel his contract a swap deal does not sound bad if you ask me. Thank Torres for the goal against Barca.
Elbowz
Lol, we will have to beg teams across Europe to buy Torres for 15m Pounds. Juventus offered 25m Pounds for him last summer & we rejected it. We should have sold him then, Now the whole world knows he cannot score with 3 of the most creative players in Europe, he can't keep the ball, he is scared to shoot, can't dribble successfully, has lost his sense of positioning and lacks even 1% confidence. I remember reading somewhere that A. Madrid offered Falcao to us & RDM begged Gourlay to get Falcao but he refused.
SameX
Problem is, no team will swap their player for Torres. Maybe, Athletico Madrid will agree but we will still have to pay good cash and I don't think we should spend big on a CF, we should only spend big on our Midfield. We need at least 2 quality Midfield players that will help dominate games for us.
SameX
We have a good rapport with Vitesse, we can strike a deal with Vitesse to ship him there plus money and get Bony in return....
Latunvic
Only a team like Anzhi who have way more money than sense would pay 15m for Torres. We may get some takers for 10m but that will be the best we can hope for. If we can convince Atletico to accept their old boy with 20-30m for Falcao i would do the deal. I am still of the opinion that if we are to compete with the big boys of the BPL and europe we are kidding ourselves if we dont have one top class goal scorer and as good as both Ba and Kraken are they are not at that level yet. As for El Nino we all know at this point he is not even a striker.
GabeU
QPR,Anzhi,PSG,zenit please come bail us out!!
Ken4CFC
djdutts, He's not worth more than that. He is worthless. There is no club in the Premier League would swap their centre forward for Torres. I can honestly say he is the worst player I have ever seen play for Chelsea. He literally looks like a fan that has won a chance to play for his club in a lottery draw. Utter garbage.
CobhamBlue
I think his contract should be cancelled if we can pull it off, torres is a fraud and single handedly ruined so many people's career with his lackadaisical attitude in front of goal. Roman should just stop putting his nose on transfers, for all his expensive gifts, we pay for it even more than the trojans paid for the gift of the greeks!!!!
Desmondadonis
This season: Torres All Comps - 15 (7BPL) goals, Lukaku BPL only - 12 goals. I think Lukaku needs to be first choice striker for us next season.
Tiraspol
Torres is a also ran to play for a top team like ours you have to perform week in and week out and he hasn't. I agree he is the worst player to have played for Chelsea is he deserving of the #9 shirt not really. You know something what should be said to him we've invested a lot of money in you then the next line should be we have lost confidence in you which the club already has with his crappy performances when given the opportunity.
Elbowz
Torres should just go and leave us alone.....i dnt care his contract is cancelled, sent on loan forever or even sold for 5m..... He should just go.

Torres will leave this summer and when he does he will go on and score a hatful for his new club. Firstly because the new team will probably set up more chances in the right parts of the field for him and because he will probably feel a lot more wanted at the next club, especially if that club is athletico Madrid which I think it will be as I still feel he will be part of a deal that see's falcao brought in this direction. We have seen glimpses of the real Torres and that player is still in there,it's just CFC and strikers never ever seem to work out for some reason and it has happened ever since I was about 10 and I'm 35 now! Fernando Torres will move and next season he will bang in at least 30 goals in all competitions. Laugh now but let's come back this time next season and let's see the articles of "why couldn't he have done this for us" and "so now he starts scoring for fun" I can see it now. Torres is not past it yet and I bet he proves everyone wrong. And I bet this time next year we are moaning at falcao for not scoring a goal or more a game! Swings and roundabouts as they say where I'm from lol
Dave-David
Hey , I know a team that can use him plus the cash.. TP Mazembe or Jomo Cosmos/ Morroka swallows .... At least they wont refuse
TheIncrediblue
I'd be amazed if Torres went anywhere and became prolific again (unless he goes to the SPL). Lets be honest, it's not his work rate that is the problem. Even when he runs his socks off in a match he is still totally ineffective as a striker. His days were coming to an end even when he was at LFC due to injuries. I don't buy that whole "CFC is a graveyard for strikers" stuff. This team on it's day creates plenty of chances. Our owner has just had a knack of buying strikers he really wants and ignoring the important issues of whether they were declining/shot/good enough or if they would fit our system and not forgetting if our manager actually wanted them. Torres is mentally shot and looks like someone completely out of love with football. I'm not saying he can't get back in the goals elsewhere to a lesser degree but he is not top drawer any more. We are just going to have to bite the bullet and use him as a makeweight or sell him for peanuts. He will cost the club far more if we persist with him.
blueleader01
and guys lukaku scores today again :(
Don capon
Dave-David -- Your comments are spot on. Torres is still a magnificent player, its just that we have a graveyard full of strikers, and Falcao's future wont be any different from Torres if we continue to play the way we do. I dont know know where do you stand on the Lampard issue, but as long as he is playing, our strikers will never be able to get involved in the team. His goals have cost us a lot of world class strikers. He is supposed to create for the strikers, and not send them wide with the passes while positioning himself in the centre. I have never seen a DM anywhere in the world, other than Chelsea, who is found ahead of the number 9 on the pitch and totally non existent in the centre. As i said, i dont know where you stand on this, but mark my words, the day Frank and Ramirez are out of the starting lineup and we have a better midfield duo on the pitch, you will see a whole new Chelsea.
Chelsea-fan
Torres is not a magnificent player...he will never be at the level he was perceived to be...cfc is not a graveyard for strikers...Lampard is not ball hog...before the season we bought Torres we had consecutive golden boot winners in Anelka and Drogba...get some sense, buy it or develop it coz I am watchin' and won't let dumb statements fly...
Gian-Franco/Luca
I will give Torres for free to any club even if it means I will have to live on the streets cause I know how much it is going to improve Chelsea by getting rid of Torres.
B2K420
sell him at any price. The amount we save on his salary can buy us a couple of more players
ktm_blues
15mil would be good business for us despite the big loss on transfer fee, 10-12mil though more realistic, and even then it is hard to think on who would gamble with Torres? that aside the sum of his wages is probably a bigger stumbling block than anything else. 175K a week can only be afforded by the best and top clubs - of which i dont see any really wanting him? I dont think we would also want to pay out nando 15mil+ cash to buy his contract out? The economics of everything Torres realted just stink really.. Its hard to see how a deal can be done. Remember, he earns far more than Falcao, so a swap + cash to atletico becomes even more difficult even if atletico want him back, as Im sure they wont want to pay a worse player more money?
BlueKiwi
Dave-David - I think you undervalue Ramires mate. I think its a massive plus to have an engine like him in the team and in the middle. Hes versitile and chips in a good amount of goals.. Put him alongside a passer/playmaker if we are playing teams which sit back, or alongside a DM if we need to be more defensive. Doesnt help when alongside Lamps whom also likes to roam forward, though I think some on here tend to overexagerate Lampard with his forward runs suggesting hes always ahead of the striker.
BlueKiwi
Tiraspol - I agree, Lukaku is definitly proving hes good enough to be the main man, and what is exciting is that he is still so young. Sturridge proved this at Bolton and now at Liverpool but never got the game time here, despite at times showing he was good enough.. I hope that Lukaku is given the right oppurtunities. Just about anything right now is an upgrade to Nando!
BlueKiwi
Gian-franco kindly check the archives regarding, Shivchenko the worlds best at the time we signed him, after you are done with hat have a look at Carespo's record, who was rated as the most gifted striker at the time, then Adrian Mutu, then so many that have been signed and left with their tails between their legs. Get your recors straight. Drogba could hit bonkers for the first two seasons, until we signed Shiva. and it was Deco and Ballack signings that helped him and Anelka score goals and after these two had left, so did the golden Boots.
Chelsea-fan
couldn't* -- By the way , you must have watched the tonights game against United. Lampard had a bigger impact on the match after he was removed. You had to check the team sheet to confirm if he had started the game in the first half. That is the kind of contribution he has to offer to the team these days. His time is up and he should leave with best wishes and respect intact. Or you could worship his posters in memory of his goals.
Chelsea-fan
If we cant sell him for 15m, then it is time for torres to accept and reinvent himself in some other area of the pitch... I personally see him succeding well in the playmaker role or wiings...we just need a manager who has the guts to play him there instead of centre forward....
Blu_run
he can be our own Rooney, if properly trained and motivated...he has lost his pace & striker instinct, but hasnt lost his vision, or ability to bring in team members into play
Blu_run
If we can't sell him why not convert him to winger?? He seems "@ home" crossing, dribbling (somewhat) and assisting others and God nows we need a RW right now as Moses is beyond useless, maybe he can be our RW till the end of the season. I'd hate to see Oscar play there indefinitely
