Benitez`s Thoughts on Win at Fulham

Benitez`s Thoughts on Win at Fulham

Following the 3-0 trouncing of Fulham, on their patch, Rafa Benitez was, understandably, buoyant when interviewed by the media.

The Spaniard, amongst other things, spoke about his two centre backs, David Luiz and John Terry, remarking,

"Luiz`s goal was really good. We have seen him score a lot of goals like this in training, Terry too did well."

"His fitness is coming back. I told him if he can train every week it will be easier for me to pick him for every game."

"Now we have competition it is good for us."

"We have eight or nine games to play. The most important thing is the team. If people don`t play they have to be ready for the next game."

"We have a target, it is very clear - we will try to stay in the top three and concentrate on the Europa League."

Although a top four finish is a priority, we should all remember that the team finishing fourth does have to negotiate what can be a tricky qualification game.

But, with the fixtures still coming thick and fast, next up for Chelsea is a trip to Anfield, a place Rafa Benitez knows very well.

Discussing the fixture, Rafa added in his post match interview,

"I was not thinking about that today but now I will try to enjoy it and prepare for it."

Liverpool is my home because my family live there so I will have a lot of good memories."

"But hopefully we can take three points and after that win every game."

"It is a pity we lost in the FA Cup semi-final because the team was doing well at the end."

"We have to stay focused and keep scoring goals and not conceding."

Thoughts I`d concur with although I get the impression it could still be one hell of a rollercoaster ride!

Has he ever given an interview where he hasn't said anything about staying 'fokoosed'?! Very easy to say (or not in Rafa's case!), much harder to make sure it actually happens for these remaining games.

It has just struck me that Rafa will be very motivated to win this match. He has openly said he intends to end up back at Anfield and Liverpool is essentially in holiday mode now as it is almost certain they will finish below Everton and almost certainly out of Europe. Rafa will desperately want to show up Brandon Rodgers both to remind the Liverpool ownership and the Anfield fan base who their most succesfull Manager in recent times has been. This will be a huge advert for him if he can pull of a win for us there. That sort of image will be stored away somewhere in the ownership's mind for when and if Rodgers starts to falter next season. That said Liverpool no matter their form always seem to reserve their absolute best for us..it is almost like they become possessed when they play us. This match could be quite a cracker. hopefully we win so we, the boys and Rafa can all be happy when it is all said and done.
