'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Markovic Joined Benfica not Chelsea‏

It was wrong...

While reading through the comments on one of the threads here a couple of days ago I saw that some of our members were celebrating and congratulating each other for the 'fact' that we have signed Serbian starlet Lazar Markovic from Partizan Belgrade and loaned him to Benfica.

Well, as a correction to the misinformation, Vital Chelsea can reliably inform you that the Portuguese side we defeated to lift the Europa League few weeks ago have wasted no time in taking their pound of flesh by quickly snapping up the 19-year-old Chelsea long-term target permanently on a five year deal directly from Partizan Belgrade.

In an official statement confirming the deal, Benfica claims they have signed the highly-rated Serbian on a five-year deal and that Chelsea have no involvement in the transfer whatsoever as was earlier confused by Partizan,

'Serbian winger Markovic signed with Benfica for five seasons,' read a Benfica statement.

Apparently relishing joining Benfica permanently instead of us and then being sent on loan as per your Kevin De Bruyne, Lucas Piazon et al, Markovic said,

'Benfica play very attacking football that fits nicely with my characteristics,'

'I come from a winning team and this style of play, always looking for goals and victories, fits me.'

'I know I will play in the Champions League so I am very motivated.'

I'm gutted to be the one to break this to you as I'm sure this must be bad news to most of us, and it has to be said this represents yet another major set-back to the club as the Serbian starlet had remained our target for two years only for us to lamely lose out to Benfica (OMG fark it, it's just Benfica not Bayern Munich or farking Barcelona!!!) , just the way we 'lost' our Nemanja Matic who has since become the mainstay of the Portuguese outfit.

God forbid having to bore you with all the other lofty transfer targets we've made a regrettable habit of losing out on at the eleventh hour this past few years, but my question is, will this irksome trend continue or will we (read Ron Gourlay and Bruce Buck) double up on those paces on the other deals we are said to be pursuing?

KTBFFH!

in 2 years we'll be linked to him and we'll be paying 30m. lol.
Humza_96
Well this is an embarrassing episode. He is supposed to be coming to us, but Benfica made the move and got him. Bad miss!! A good lesson to the recruitment department. We move on.
syed230183_chelseafc
we cant get all the talents to cfc...
Dexwhytecast
How many 19 year-olds will we buy????? Let the kid go to Benfica where he will get a proper chance at the first team. All we need now is a matured, composed world class striker. 'Shikena'!!!
Ikdaniels
Yes, it's sound awful since the club might have been very close to signing him but on the brighter side we have a lot of youngsters who will benefit from this debacle. Think Davila and piazon and maybe kakuta, they may turn out to be better given playing time. I hope this was because we are signing marco van ginkel.
shaka09
So farking what..
zg2000fs
HE IS A CHELSEA PLAYER only and thats according to Partizan club president ...and have been loaned by Chelsea to Benfica for 2 years...and so far is verbal but all will done as Partizan Club President has confirmed...So he is a Chelsea Player only ..so i think its a good deal for us, he can develop there and then we can reap the benefits after 2 years. Lets see whats the truth in this.
Oligarch
dont care wether he joined us or not...anyways he would be loan only....no point in having him or not..
shlok27
I'm not exactly going to lose any sleep over this news.
MeadowMower
i still think there's something funny about this. i mean if benfica have signed him on a 5 year deal why has no transfer fee been mentioned? how could the partizan president get it so wrong?
trueblue44
maybe we are letting benfica have him so they let us have matic cheaper as there was rumours jose wants him! just guessing and making presumptions.
bluenath86
These deal can be very convoluted, especially due to the third party ownership situations that are par for the course in Portugal. I haven't really seen convincing info from either side.
rslack
First Taison, now Markovic, who's next on the list?
Tugay08
Do you think he will be playing first team if he comes to SB...he wil be on reserves team or on loan to some ***** team...better he chooses benfica...he doesnt want to risk his career...matic was lucky that he got swapped for Luiz...
Blu_run
This is what happens when we dont trust youngsters and always go after the £30m plus signings
Blu_run
If i were him i'd have done the same....you want him to sit on the bench right?
Krested Kal-el
Just heard jose had talks with omeruo's agent on a possible return to chelsea. His agent confirmed this on monday.Good one.
Blueozone
I really don't what happen, even the media was confused. whether Chelsea bought him, whether benfica bought him or whether Chelsea bought him & loaned him to Benfica...
shaf86
This kid would be worth 40m euros in 2 years.....
Desmondadonis
@shaka09 - nice, but I'm afraid [Ullyses]Davilla and [Lucas]Piazon are no wingers! *We need wingers asap! Seems we ain't signing Shürrle anymore. Of course, we may well sign Ginkel but he isn't a winger either.
HGH Magic
@ guy saying we need a striker we urgently need pivot or itll be the same story as last season.
arbor9
If he was truly and wholly signed by benfica, we would have heard officially about his non-negotiable buy out clause first..... way before we hear that he has signed for them.
Dwonder
LOL @Dwonder, have you considered why Chelsea themselves haven't given an official statement refuting or disproving the Benfica claim? Anyways, thought this might help - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lazar_Markovi
HGH Magic
I read somewhere that he's signing for us and will be loaned out immediately to Benfica.... the Partizan chairman said so !
The Persian
Yes The Persian, me too. But Benfica so far have been the only ones making any form of definitive and categorical statement, haven't they?
HGH Magic
yes HGH, good luck to them... it seemed that Benfica wanted him more... so that's a good move for him... we got Schurrle instead and also we have Piazon who is probably a better prospect than Markovic... we can't buy every talented youngster... hope we don't regret this one...
