It was wrong...
While reading through the comments on one of the threads here a couple of days ago I saw that some of our members were celebrating and congratulating each other for the 'fact' that we have signed Serbian starlet Lazar Markovic from Partizan Belgrade and loaned him to Benfica.
Well, as a correction to the misinformation, Vital Chelsea can reliably inform you that the Portuguese side we defeated to lift the Europa League few weeks ago have wasted no time in taking their pound of flesh by quickly snapping up the 19-year-old Chelsea long-term target permanently on a five year deal directly from Partizan Belgrade.
In an official statement confirming the deal, Benfica claims they have signed the highly-rated Serbian on a five-year deal and that Chelsea have no involvement in the transfer whatsoever as was earlier confused by Partizan,
'Serbian winger Markovic signed with Benfica for five seasons,' read a Benfica statement.
Apparently relishing joining Benfica permanently instead of us and then being sent on loan as per your Kevin De Bruyne, Lucas Piazon et al, Markovic said,
'Benfica play very attacking football that fits nicely with my characteristics,'
'I come from a winning team and this style of play, always looking for goals and victories, fits me.'
'I know I will play in the Champions League so I am very motivated.'
I'm gutted to be the one to break this to you as I'm sure this must be bad news to most of us, and it has to be said this represents yet another major set-back to the club as the Serbian starlet had remained our target for two years only for us to lamely lose out to Benfica (OMG fark it, it's just Benfica not Bayern Munich or farking Barcelona!!!) , just the way we 'lost' our Nemanja Matic who has since become the mainstay of the Portuguese outfit.
God forbid having to bore you with all the other lofty transfer targets we've made a regrettable habit of losing out on at the eleventh hour this past few years, but my question is, will this irksome trend continue or will we (read Ron Gourlay and Bruce Buck) double up on those paces on the other deals we are said to be pursuing?
