Long Term Adidas Deal Announced

Long Term Adidas Deal Announced

Those who have been following Chelsea since before the turn of the century will know we`ve had several kit manufacturers blessing us with their designs.

Off the top of my head I can recall the following three - Le Coq Sportif, Umbro and Chelsea Collection before Adidas came along.

As you`d expect some of the kits were good and some were naff.

However, it seems that Adidas, who have been supplying our kit since 2006, are here to stay with the club announcing a 10 year deal with the company in a deal Chelsea describes as;

"The biggest deal to date Chelsea FC has signed with a partner"

Which in itself is interesting, I wonder how much the kit deal might be worth, does anyone out there know?

If it's less than £25m per season we've sold ourselves short.

It Is good news if we have something akin or near to what united and the barcas of this world sign with their sponsors, we are a big club in our own right and we deserve huge sponsorship deals too.

Well, I believe it's an improved deal, better than the Samsung deal.... and if the 35M a year is true, then it's great... I only hope and believe there will be clauses in the deal that will provide room for improvement when deemed fit as I wouldn't want us to be stuck with 35M for ten years when there's an opportunity for an even better deal/package in the future....

I am generally not a fan of sponsorship deals that are this long. 10 years is a very long time. The one smiling at this is Adidas. They have their cost commitment to us fixed and set for a decade. The deal may seem good now but who knows what inflation and economic change in the next few years would make it look like..when we first signed the Samsung shirt deal it looked wonderful..the subsequent shirt deals that the gunners, ManU and Barca signed not too long ago have since shown just how low balled we were on that deal. 5 year deals at best with options for renewals with renegotiation between the parties is the better option in my mind. This said, Addidas is a good sporting partner to have and it better to have a high visibility name like theirs associated with Chelsea FC than so no name start up firm. At leas you know that barring something akin to the apocalypse Adidas will be around in the coming decade and wont renege on their signed contract agreement.

my first Chelsea memorabilia was an Umbro-made "Zola 25" kit (only the T-Shirt tho) with Autoglas upfront :)

Great deal for the club, yes it is $450m over 10 years, so about 28 million pounds a year.
